@@keepdancingmaria You're not wrong. That sketch was pretty hilarious in its own right. Had kind of a "Hogan's Heroes" vibe to it, I guess you can say. :)
@@DustinMWeber I loved Hogan's Heroes!!! On this skit, the funniest part for me was, "I've made that cupboard safe for democracy!" For some reason that slew me.
.... A classic Carol sketch, but, may I say....I think it's HEINOUS, that Lyle Waggoner NEVER gets his credit due, being a part of of such a CLASSIC, talented cast, who held his own! He's been in some of the most classic sketches on "Carol", then, turned his run with the series into a HUGE business funding celebrity trailers for the entertainment industry, and has retired comfortably with his wife (...of 50+ YEARS!), and STILL looks great! YES, he was VERY 'of the time' handsome, and was used mostly for that in the 'Carol' skits (such as 'G.I. Jack' here at 3:04), but his timing, reactions, & wit, keep everyone balanced in the skits...If he wasn't GOOD, it would've shown, and he SHOULD be credited for THAT, at least! We recently lost the legendary Tim Conway; we shouldn't have to wait until HE'S gone, too, to herald his talents.....jus'sayin.... (*edit*: ....NOW, we've lost Lyle, too...RIP, Our 'GI Jack'...) : (
Carol created two new stars on that show: Vicki Lawrence (who was in many people's eyes a younger Carol) and Lyle Waggoner (hired originally as the announcer and love interest for Carol to swoon over, but developed into a fine comedic sketch player of his own before being hired away to be the original Steve Trevor in _Wonder Woman_ ).
The Carol burnette show is like the american version of Chespirito/el chavo del 8 etc. Jeje so innocent and funny love it. Im not mexican but i did enjoy el chavo del 8 and chespirito as a child jeje
I saw this episode new. I had Barbies and Kens, and my brothers had GI Joe's. Sometimes I'd have a Barbie marrying a GI Joe when my brothers weren't at home. LOL. I watched this show new, every season, and grew up with it. Brilliantly hilarious.
Can anyone tell me if that's Carol's real hair or a wig at the beginning of the show !!!!???? Carol Burnett and Lyonal Wagner and Tim Conway and Vicki Lawrence and Harvey Korman are all geniuses !!!! I watch every skit I can find on RUclips !!!!
Funny how they had parody names for Barbie, Ken and GI Joe but not Betsy Wetsy, who is also a real doll. I guess it would have spoiled the joke, anyway.
Yes, but this took place in the seventies. That was before toys were considered gender neutral. But I guess since it’s a sixties GI JOE, it would be a hand me down.
....ha-HAAA, EXCUUUSE YOU! ..Toni just made it FAMOUS; many black girls were sporting that hairstyle as early as 1973, due to new hair-care products that 'relaxed' their hair, to where it can be pressed and styled....but Vicki (and Toni) had naturally curly hair, so, those styling methods were used on THEM.....hence, the 'terrible' Toni Tennille haircut! It was called 'The Mushroom', by the by... ; )
Who knew that they would make a giant blockbuster movie about Barbie just nearly 50 years later. Carol Burnett was ahead the times, truly wonderful
The Carol Burnett writers said it was hardest of all ENDING a sketch. This was a great ending - Betsie Wetsie.
When I was a boy in the 60s, I made my mother buy me a Barbie so that GI Joe could have a girlfriend...
Malgremor lol that’s cute. My sister kept taking my brothers GI joe for the same reason
@@ifoundmyavalon It seems I knew I was heterosexual from an early age, though I didn't know the word then...
@@malgremor85 Aww, that's adorable. You had the luckiest G.I. Joe on the block, I'll bet!
@@keepdancingmaria I had the only GI Joe on the block. That made me the most popular kid...
My brother stole my barbies and would put his GI Joe’s “Kung-fu” grip on their bare breasts. He was a little pervy that way. LOL!
Am I the only one who thinks Vickie's "Hi!" at 5:20 is totally adorable?
Nope! :)
@@DustinMWeber Good. X)
I do believe that you're right. Both Carol and Vickie are so cute.
Very creative story. Every child's dream, dolls become alive.
Before Toy Story we had this
Looks like it
There was more before Toy Story. That one wasn't new and neither was the plot.
@@drxcreatures very true. It's close to the Little Toaster, in terms of themes and plot.
@ 4:06 Barbary says : " It's dolls like you that make America GREAT" !!!!
If this isn't the most underrated sketch in Carol Burnett Show history, then I don't know what is.
I prefer the Nazi Interrogation skit, myself. But this was very funny!

It's now 2023 and a new movie is coming to theatres, titled "Barbie". Carol was ahead of the times.
That 4-F joke with the reply of having been made with flat feet was hysterical!
The ending is hysterical! 🤣😂😭

One of my all time favourite shows growing up! This is when artists were accessible and authentic! The audience questions are so precious!! ~~LOVE~~~
Harvey playing Ken always gets me! XD
Such a classy lady.
Again, this show was fantastic!!
They brought out a new doll, 'Divorced Barbie'. Comes complete with Kens house and car!
My god Carol Burnett is so smokin hott…especially in this Barbie costume Ooooph
That was great! I don't remember seeing this one before.
I loved watching this as a child especially since I had an aunt that looked like her
What a dazzling dress. Carol sure could be a knockout when she cared to!
SNL completely stole this script about 10 times
They stole truckloads of stuff going back to Sid Caesar.
After seeing this sketch on the show way back when, I always wanted my own G.I. Jack. 😀
Always loved how that hair looks on Harvey! Wish he wore that wig more often!
The sexual innuendo is off the charts, and completely over my head as a kid...
Always a joy! :)
RIP Lyle Waggoner!
The last line = LoL.
She is rocking that dress
Barbrie wants america to be great again one soilder at a time lol
Thanks for the upload. :)
That openeing question was SO ridiculous (and funny).
The best laughs.
Even my little girl self had a crush on Lyle.

Y el programa de Anabel Ferreira era exactamente la versión mexicana del show de Carol Burnet. Así se lo pidió ella a Emilio Azcárraga.
His hair lol

Yes, her real hair. She has red hair. Neat, huh? Those haircuts were popular at the time now they're only for kids. 🙄
The original Toy Story!

I 🩷 Barbie!
Wow, this is Toy Story before Pixar!
I had a Betsie wettsy doll!
Barbary, not Barbie.
GI Jack not Joe
@@katherinkeegan8601 The poster got that right.

Who designed Carol’s dresses? They are always stunning!
The opening dresses were designed by Bob Mackie. He designed for Cher and Carol. Legend who's start were these two shows.
Dodi Tov thanks for the info!

The show may have been able to afford the usage of Betsy Wetsy, but not the others. I imagine that was a much larger fee...
They could've called her Betty Wetty. 😂
Toy Story 0
She was the original "Barbie Girl".

Does anyone know of Anything today that is as funny as this show was ?
please enlighten me
How was the little girl? Anyone know?
Does anyone know who the little girl is in the skit?
What was a little girl doing with G I Joe?

Yes, but this took place in the seventies. That was before toys were considered gender neutral. But I guess since it’s a sixties GI JOE, it would be a hand me down.
My brother had G.I. Joe toys. I had Barbie, Skipper and Jane West. Joe helped Jane run the ranch and ride the horses.
Well you see, back in the 60s and 70s kids had this thing called "siblings."
"Mooooom!!! Becky was in my room again!"
"I was nooot!!"
"Were too!"
"Was NOOOOOT!!"
Made in Japan.
MAG[A]?
Made me smile too!
I wonder what that kid's up to nowadays.
4F?
Physically unfit for military service.
Carol Burnette is a way better Barbie than Margot Robie

It's the terrible Tony Tennille haircut.

Sad but true. America will never be great as long as Trump is still president.
