Strange. Could it have been some other connection failing?
There were lots of teething troubles with the R9 and I also had similar problems. It was all fixed with Open Tx 2.2.3 and the new flex firmware on modules and receivers.
@@AndrewNewton Yeah I'm not sure. The DVR was recording from start to impact and I would still get a bar or two through telemetry afterwards. I was just cruising around at about 30m elevation and it just dropped; all 4 motors just stopped. Stupid me never set failsafe properly with gps and just had it to drop as it did. I have been scrambling to find the dvr footage but it must of gotten trashed in the last purge. I don't remember seeing a failsafe message though and the rssi was still good (at 99) from my recollection. Like you suggested, it may of been anything but the r9 system is just prime suspect.
@@alanpaul1234 Alright, I'll have to run through some updates. I have a couple more r9 receivers... may just tag one on one of my cheapo ghetto sled planes that I would be more accepting in the case of a crash / loss. Thanks
Looking forward to the range test.
Sorry, I must do that followup video
It's uncanny how you review things I am currently looking in to buying. I received the R9 module with my Taranis, and am looking for a receiver and antennae. I was looking at the R9 slim receiver and super eight antennae. Looking forward to your testing, and am interested in your opinion on the slim receivers. Thanks for all you do, you are a f#&@ng machine !!
I have been using the R9 with Slim+ receiver in the USA. It has worked flawlessly for me. No more pesky RSSI Low when flying line of sight... I have FrSky T-Antenna for the receiver and I am using TrueRC TRUE-MOX 915 antenna on the transmitter module. I am very pleased with it. I also did some long range flying up to 4.5km with high RSSI. As Andrew would put it: "no drama". :-)
@@jocelyncloutier Thanks for the info!
Haha, thanks. They keep sending stuff to me.
I had that same setup and got out 7 miles , then realized i had a 3000mah battery in my ranger 1600 never made it back home , ran out of juice against the wind, just got my R9mm recevers in
Oh no, I can so understand doing that.
The sbus port on back is for Bluetooth HC-O6 module. I have one connected to mine and use Telemetry Viewer App from Android AppStore to get all my Telemetry to tablet. Works pretty well. Not perfect but does work well for say downed planes you can use this to locate easily. Ask me how I no🥴
Ah thanks, didn't know that
Andrew Newton sorry I meant the Smartport on back. The 3 pins on right are used if you want to add Bluetooth module.
You can use either HC-05 or HC-06. Modules. I’d suggest using HC-06. Much easier to program and all you need is $2 inverter
It has been discontinued¡¡¡
Andrew, it is refreshing to hear someone highlighting the line of sight rules which govern most of the world drone/flying laws.
Getting busted by CASA wouldn't exactly be great for RUclips monetization
Depressing you mean.
I think you mean 10 Mili watts not 10 watts. ETC
Yes, I say dumb things often
Just watch 28km with the r9 reciver! It was crazy only on 500mw.
Your lucky in that you are going bt able to flash the new ACCESS as you have the x9 lite. So stupid that a radio like the qx7/7s which is only a year old can not be patched.
But as we are in the warm embrace of Nanna Australia with more open space then we can use we can't fly long range anyway. Thank God for that really wouldn't want to take advantage of proven sa features lke RTH and telemetry.
Seriously you could do whatever you want as long as no-one sees the video.
@@AndrewNewton I don't post videos of any of my flights. I'm worried that I might inadvertently do something wrong and be reported as I'm in the city so it's really hard to have total control over environment. I do love long range and can't see how flying over bush is going to impact on anyone. Your flying field seems nice and large so I can see you'd get some satisfaction out of having fun there.
Andrew Newton that’s exactly right.
Angus Whitehouse please just don’t fly in suburbia or subdivisions like I see lots of us Americans doing and posting their videos for likes and subs. They don’t realize they are hurting the hobby more than anything. I watched I video other day of a man from Florida flying his AR wing full speed 50ft over top of homes in a subdivision and he flow out well over a mile into neighboring subdivisions!! Stupid move on his part! Thing is when I mentioned he was flying in a bad area and to please stop he processed to call me the idiot🥴
@@Freebird_67 I never post videos, only instructionals on 4g flight apps and how tool's. To many people have been fined thousands here CASA does a good job of monitoring sites for people breaking the lae, ìf not being a little overzealous! I'm in total agreement as Andrew would agree there's no point makeing the hobby look bad especially at this point in history when the media is flat out lieing about the risks of drones.
If your going to post pleanty of great stuff to fly around here in Australia without breaking the lae.
I don't believe you've got the power outputs correct.
Just reading the specs. What do you think is wrong?
@@AndrewNewton 1:45 I believe the correct power outputs should be 10mW, 100mW, 500mW and 1000mW.
Oh just rewatched it.Yes you're correct milli watts not watts
Bet the 4 dislikes are TBS crossfire users. I’m Rich!!!
I make 100km plus range at homemade rc . for drone
Its working fine also controlled with laptop
Wow, that's amazing!
@@AndrewNewton thanks
That's not with the R9m though? I mean I do 70 km UHF, and 4g, but haven't reach limit of either . But totally diffrent to the
The Super8 antenna is super garbage. Bin it for a moxon. Night and day difference
Good to know, thanks Aaron
