We are privileged indeed to hear Xavier Diaz-Latorre play Biber's Passacaglia.
This lute is a work of art and craftsmanship played by a master.
Already one of my favorite classical songs but then hearing how incredibly beautiful and dark it sounds in this version, gives me goosebumps everytime. Phenomenal musician. Incredible instrument.
The Rosary Sonatas (Rosenkranzsonaten, also known as the Mystery Sonatas or Copper-Engraving Sonatas) by Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber are a collection of 15 short sonatas for violin and continuo, with a final passacaglia for solo violin. Each has a title related to the Christian Rosary devotion practice and possibly to the Feast of the Guardian Angels.
It is presumed that the Mystery Sonatas were completed around 1676, but they were unknown until their publication in 1905. The music of Biber was never entirely forgotten due to the high technical skill required to play many of his works; this is especially true of his works for violin. Once rediscovered, the Mystery Sonatas became Biber's most widely known composition. The work is prized for its virtuosic vocal style, scordatura tunings and its programmatic structure.
Is this chaconne part of the Mystery sonatas?
@@wj98983 it's not a chaconne it's a passacaglia that ends the publication

All that is fascinating. What Philistine put an advert in the middle of it!? You have true grace and forbearance, Maestro. RG❤
Thank you Maestro Xavier for creatively breathing a new life in to this wonderful pieace by Biber. 🎉
Thank you sir. I now almost listen to this everyday. by far it is to my opinion the best interpretation of this music. Bravos!🎉
Impressive transcription, incredible to think it was written for solo violin
I still remember that great gig in Savigliano, north west of Italy, with Jordi Savall, and looking forward to see you again in concert. Thanks, Maestro.
Bel posto, mi ricordo! saluti
Jordi Savall another maestro !
You, sir, have touched a soul today, for which I am grateful. May you be blessed as many times as this superb rendition touches and blesses others. Thank you for sharing!
As a former "classical" guitarist (I played mostly late-20th and early 21st-century music, but with a great affinity for Renaissance and Baroque music), I've been listening to Diaz-Latorre's music for some years now.
He is truly a marvelous musician.
This piece is new to me, and really exquisite.
This piece is originally for violin of all things. This is a great transcription
@@rfv618 Interesting. My experience was that violin works were generally relatively easy to transcribe for guitar, whereas lute compositions often presented significant difficulties in transcription to guitar
If the average pianist listened to this and internalized the magic, they would really have things to say. This goes for any musician of course. It amazes me that really great playing survives in such an unfortunately niche world.
It’s not a piano ya square it’s got more in common with a guitar
Piano would make this sound boring stale
@@christianbruno1756 as a pianist I agree, but I think the OP meant something different. This playing has such a charm, there's soul, there's depth and no unnecessary drama. Most winners of most prestigious piano competitions don't have 1/1000th of this level of musicality. We have some amazing musicians too, but honestly, it's probably less than 10 living pianists worth listening to if you're into music and not mindless beating of the piano.
@geuros , well, look into HIP keyboard players, and you will find all that you see lacking in modern pianists.
wunderschön!
I luv all things Biber so I had to hear the master Diaz-Latorre in this after hearing the DeVisee ! Wonderful !
Found this piece on Spotify and thought it was played on multiple instruments. But it's not! Magnificent!
Thank you. I didn't know this was on Spotify.
Feeling all the things 💕 what a sensitive performance

You sound great. Where can I find a manuscript or sheet music for this? All the ones I can find sound a lot different from how you play.
Dear mikeroch, there's a transcription of mine published in my Patreon page. Best regards
Bravísismo, maestro! The pitch is A 392? Was that a choice for by taste or the tensio of the strings? Thanks!
Sim, issa é a razão. Obrigado pelo comentário
