- Transcribed for Baroque lute and performed by Nigel North on an instrument built by Lars Jonsson in 2005, after Hans Frei. The concert took place on 20 March 2016 at the Byron Colby Barn in Prairie Crossing, Grayslake IL USA.
How anyone could dislike Nigel North's playing is completely beyond me.
I loved this piece from Biber ever since I discovered the composer. So glad to hear it transcribed for lute. Completely another atmosphere. Violin can be quite virtuosic and "showy" in this piece at times, which is nice of course but Lute makes it contemplative and way more intimate.
What stunning playing, I'm floored! Thanks for uploading.
un des plus beaux touchers sur le luth ! et quelle musicalité !
brilliant and elegant performance. the melody at 30 seconds is stirring. great work sir
wonderful!
This is great, the video too..thanks!
Nicely "translated". It sounds like an original lute piece.... Actually some parts I liked more than the usual violin versions.
Thank you!
beautifully played! Was this Nigel North's own transcription?
Yes, the transcription of this Passacaglia was his. He also did the transcription of the pieces by Henry Purcell that he played on the same concert (ruclips.net/video/OeUzsDrNvyU/видео.html).
Hi Byron, do you know if his transcriptions are available somewhere?
Thanks.
