I've heard quite a large number of lutenists and classical guitarists since I began playing in 1964, and somehow I have only now stumbled upon Diaz-Latorre. He is absolutely wonderful, and master of not only that instrument but also the music. Finding both is extraordinarily rare, and I am really overwhelmed by his playing.
That is the best version and interpretation of this song I have heard. Completely refreshing, totally insightful that the convention may not have been the previous norm, there is so much more humour and intimacy to this one. It is like the piece has been brought to life. I really love it. Absolutely well done

I would like to play the lute too, but I am only lucky enough to own a piano, so I just arrange and perform my favorite lute pieces on the piano, and I use the sustain pedal as much as I like... So far, I have not been scolded by the disembodied spirits of any of my favorite composers, not have I been scorned by any fellow musicians, neither lutenist not pianist... I'm sure the ghost of Sylvius Leopold Weiß has better thing to do than worry about what I do with my hammerklavier... Perhaps, were I to be honored with such a haunting, the phantom Maestro might be honored and pleased that intangible qualities of his compositions (the prescribed relations between the notes themselves) have the potential of outliving the physical instrument for which they were first conceived?
