I've heard quite a large number of lutenists and classical guitarists since I began playing in 1964, and somehow I have only now stumbled upon Diaz-Latorre. He is absolutely wonderful, and master of not only that instrument but also the music. Finding both is extraordinarily rare, and I am really overwhelmed by his playing.
It's true, I just fall somewhere into old times, listening to Xavier... Just something real, a connection to medieval and Renaissance.
@@sfgylk34u_57this is a baroque instrument.
As a guitarist, I'm hearing all the elements it took years of practice to master and present so perfectly. Outstanding performance!
That is the best version and interpretation of this song I have heard. Completely refreshing, totally insightful that the convention may not have been the previous norm, there is so much more humour and intimacy to this one. It is like the piece has been brought to life. I really love it. Absolutely well done
Absolutely - humor and intimacy, and a joy that is lacking in so many renditions.
10 years after...still SOoo delightfully played. Thank you so much.♥
i do not know how many times i have listened this lovely piece, but it is an endless bliss....thanx Xavier!
I first found this video when it was relatively new and I still love it so much over a decade later.
I rarely go to guitar music .I'm an orchestrator ,trained pianist and violinist but the deVisee was enchanting and Diaz-Latorre infectious musicality is unforgettable .
This performance is such a treasure. I'm so glad I stumbled across it!
Lol your username rocks

THE BEST VERSION os Chaconne of Visee all other players killed the song, this sounds so much so so so much better it´s like floating in a universe of love

Gracias maestro Diaz. Greetings from Turkey. Teşekkürler.
Yes it's my favorite version too.

Finísimo
This is the most beautiful performance, I thought I have seen great playing before, and I have, but this is next level musicianship, history resurrected!
Beautifully performed!
RUclips gem right here.Takes me somewhere else.
You make me want to sell my car and buy a lute :)
Absolutely in love with your playing. Those trills.
thx Nate, with the guitar will be enough ;)
Superb! Bravo! I love Robert de Visee! Great playing Xavier! Bellisimo!
All the angels in Heaven were all around you when with you recorded this, Xavier! I can't tell you how many times I listen to it! - When you get into that blossoming, beautiful swinging section, it is as though the music itself is embracing us through your love and spirit!
Cuervo Luminoso thx Cuervo 🙂 very kind
I played thissong on repeat too ! It makes all troubles go away. I listened everyday for a month .
I keep coming back to this performance, there's something very special about it. Such a carefree, playful piece of music. I love it!
Starting to add to my LUTE playlist again. Great job. Keep going!
Oh, this is truly beautiful. A great composition played by a master.
Good grief! Never in my life have I been dragged back through the centuries like this. Magnificent playing of de Visée, but your additions were just perfect. Still speechless some considerable number of minutes later. So many thanks for posting. Regards P.
Thx marsvitor2, you are very kind. I'm glad you liked it.
I most wholeheartedly and ardently concur.

Magnificent!!!!
Wonderful playing, beautiful piece and amazing tone from the theorbo. I play harpsichord sometimes and wish for rich plucked sound but with expressive ability.
Thank you Xavier for posting.
mattbod Thank you very much, it's indeed a nice piece of music
I keep coming back to this rendition, years now
:)
This music is much better than the music of these days.
in any case, is a beautiful piece, you are right

lier Bieber is the king of musical inovations
I do not even know if the current song can be called "music"
Shravyäie Saüyé I very much agree, though what I find interesting about this piece is that uniting it enters the minor I could easily imagine it being something written for guitar nowadays.
Lover the artistry in playing this classic. How do you ever keep this instrument in tune.
This is so great
incredible, as usual. i don't think i've ever come across a video by mr. diaz-latorre that i haven't loved!
Freedom and Love!
gracias Ismael
This is a wonderful piece played very well. Very expressive
wonderful piece indeed
Dom Xavier, mucias gracias!
that was Great! thanks.
I am tempted to give up the piano and go back to being a beginner on the lute.
I understand you, I still feel a beginner
I would like to play the lute too, but I am only lucky enough to own a piano, so I just arrange and perform my favorite lute pieces on the piano, and I use the sustain pedal as much as I like... So far, I have not been scolded by the disembodied spirits of any of my favorite composers, not have I been scorned by any fellow musicians, neither lutenist not pianist... I'm sure the ghost of Sylvius Leopold Weiß has better thing to do than worry about what I do with my hammerklavier... Perhaps, were I to be honored with such a haunting, the phantom Maestro might be honored and pleased that intangible qualities of his compositions (the prescribed relations between the notes themselves) have the potential of outliving the physical instrument for which they were first conceived?
Me too!!
I love the french style music it is so proud a feeling, so gallant.
I agree
Un merveille, bravo Xavier
Its nice to see people having intelligent conversations in the youtube comments for once.
This chaccone sounds so modern :)
true, it does
he modified it to sound better, listen to other versions, lack of the same spirit and sonority, he embellished it to a master level, making it better. Like the Green Sleaves from Francis Cutting much better than the "original" version .
I had a chance to see Mr. Diaz-Latorre perform on vihuela at the Cervantes Institute in Manhattan some years ago and I passed on it. My loss....regreting it now.
Your performance is uplifting, exalting, one of the most beautiful things I've heard. Thank you very much for this living tradition.
Exquisite playing. Your instrument is perfect for the playing of the cicconia and passacagli of the 17th. C. Many of Visee's works were written for the tiorba francesa given to him by the king. Thanks for sharing this magical music moment. Made my day!!
Thank you fnersch. Very kind
GREATEST INTERPRETATION. NO DOUBT
All of your playing is amazing and a joy to listen, but this one really blows me away, it's simply out of this world! Thank you so much for preserving this precious moments in time and sharing it with us!
thank you so much for sharing such wonderful music, and so wonderfully interpreted.
thx for listening
Bravo!
Thomas Luth merci Thomas, tres gentil 😊
Beautiful!
Gracias ,gracias, gracias, gracias....❤️
Agradeço a beleza, mesmo que tardiamente.
Beautiful song and really nicely played. Had a go in it, almost like a slow Swedish polska. ;-)

I've been listening to this every morning. It's the perfect way to begin the day. I have some golden moments with my beloved dogs & this is absolute perfection.

Well my two dogs are big fans--and so am I!

one the most unique interpretations and songs of all time ... I would love if mestre Xavier could transcript this for 6 string guitar. as some as i do not posses theorical musical knowledge ... at least i can then make a tablature... como soy "primitivo"
Fantástico. Una interpretación hermosísima. Mi enhorabuena.

Great, decisive, original performance. Thank & many thanks.

BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!
I am glad to see that you will be appearing in Australia in 2018! I look forward to seeing and hearing you in Melbourne.
Geoffrey Bryan Im glad too. Will be my first time in Australia. I'd love to ad some solo or masterclasses to my participation on the tournée. Best regards
That would be excellent! The recital centre in Melbourne has a salon next door that it probably a perfect space for what you want. Indeed tomorrow (10th April) I'm going to a lute/baroque guitar recital there (my teacher Rosemary Hodgson is playing). So may be that's the venue ou might want to look at. Signor Savall has played in the main hall a number of times.
When will Xavier be in Australia and is he coming to Adelaide if not I will come to Melbourne to hear him play I would also like to attend a master class if you organize one I can be contacted at roblindacarruthers@gmail cheers Rob
Wonder wonderful playing especially the Dynamics towards the end. Thank you.
I couldn't agree with you more. This is where they all come out - all the bottled up emotions of a man. I do think that many women do indeed appreciate a man's feelings through his music though, as I've often seen it speak to them.
Maravilhoso!
@MrTHocker hi, about the tunning, it's called meantone, which means that the scale is not spaced equal in 12 but in 17. So a c sharp and a d flat is not the same. The first is lower than the second. Therefore we need a special spacing of the frets for each key. My typ, if you buy an instrument, is that you should buy a good one! Since you are musician, you wouldn't stand a regular one. About the amount of instruments, you don't want to see my wardrobe....regards
i'll drink to that!!!!! a wonderful performance!
Xavier, you are truly one of the best lutenists of our time.
Any chance of hearing you in concert in Norway sometime?
Also - do you have any solo recordings planned soon?
Hi selenographia, you are too kind. I'd love to play in Norway, but so far, the more at the north where I've played is in FInland, several times :) But I'vent got any invitation yet for Norway. Regarding to my Cd's, you can check my website and you'll find the info. Bests
Gran interpretacion!

Always great to hear this.
You are a great lute and theorbo player. Thanks for uploading.
Hola, muy bueno, gracias por subirlo!!!
¿podría decirme si toca guitarra clásica?
Saludos
Pablo Fernandez la toqué muchos años. Saludos!
Lovely Chaconne and lovely playing. Are the bass strings tuned openly? I noticed them being plucked unfretted accompanying your fretted notes in the higher register. I would love to play lute. There are so many different types. I could not afford one neither could I afford to pay for the basic instruction. I can manage about 4 pages of Bach's famous Chaconne in Dmin on classical guitar, and some Silvius Leopold Weiss. I was self taught for that task, combining my ear-ability with a basic understanding of guitar notation having bought a teach yourself book to start me off. Before then I was playing entirely by ear covers of people I like such as Hendrix, the Who etc. I'm venturing now into jazz standards in chord/melody style. Thanks for sharing your playing of these wonderful instruments and the great compositions!
a lot of times bass strings like that are tuned stepwise diatonically
@@davidferrara1105 Pretty much - From the 6th to 14th course it's a diatonic scale, in this case G Major (So from highest to lowest A G F# E D C B A G)
@@davidferrara1105 Every time for lutes, actually. There's some weird exception but virtually every configuration for lutes the strings are a scale from the A string down.
this is HEAVEN!!! so sublime!!! thank you, thank you!!!
Sublime playing, seen other versions of this one, you made it clear, more rythmic, more sensual, more profound.... this is a amazing work of art, from the composer, to the manuscript, to the final day you shared this brilliant interpretation... THANK YOU AGAIN. I´m in deep passion with this interpretion mostly, and piece.
Great playing! I really like this piece and your sound.
wow! incredibly beautiful piece!
This is amazing, really amazing.
That was absolutely fantastic.
I should live long enough to play so well!
You set the bar high, Xavier.

Wonderful. Romantic and gentle.
