      I loved mine while I had it too, but preferred the SE 277 once that came out, pretty much almost exclusively for Chevelle cover stuff. But then the digital drop tuning options from Fractal and Neural got good enough (for non recording needs) that I dropped the drop tuning arsenal to make life easier. One thing that never left me though was the addiction to the string tension and I now use a PRS Tremonti Baritone Hybrid (25.5" scale) in standard and Drop D tuning, but the brightness and dryness of an Aristides still does a bit better when using digital drop tuning options.

    • @Classic_DionysuS
      @Classic_DionysuS 5 месяцев назад

      I had this discussion with a bunch of session musicians... all these companies EQ their plugins so they sound good on THEIR hardware but sound like absolute ass on everyone elses. It makes them all useless. They can easily make good stuff that everyone could use - but they just don't. STL Tones is a huge exception to this. But this is another example of its not hard to make captures that are EQ'd CORRECTLY that sound good on people's systems.

    • @ikmultimedia
      @ikmultimedia 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@Classic_DionysuS This is simply not true. We and other companies test with multiple audio interfaces and setups (in fact we might test more on other companies' interfaces than we do our own or at least just as much). People were using TONEX software on many different audio interfaces long before the TONEX Pedal even existed.

  • @creatio1
    @creatio1 5 месяцев назад +2

    Jon, how do you approach gain staging the DI input signal for plugins? Nowadays there's some discussion going on that you should have always input gain on your interface at zero and add or lower the gain in the plugin itself to sound as it was intended to. I don't know if your setup /gear makes you even think any of that, but I'd love hear from you on the DI input level into the plugin /amp sim. Your tones are so consistent no matter what you use. Maybe some vid on that subject? Cheers!

    • @PippPriss
      @PippPriss 5 месяцев назад

      When we were discussing this in the ToneX FB group a while back, Jon showed little interest in this subject overall and stated he used his Helix board as the core unit for ReAmping. He stated he mainly dialed in his gain via ears. Works for him it seems. For me, I rather like dBu numbers as reference.

    • @creatio1
      @creatio1 5 месяцев назад

      @@PippPriss Thanks! I tried to use the "zero gain" method but found my DI to be very undegained. So I've ended up doing what I always did - used my ears for gain staging. The only lesson I took from it, is that I measured what input signal I have (that is working for me) to stay consistent in the future, in case I messed it up by accident.

    • @SonicDriveStudio
      @SonicDriveStudio  5 месяцев назад

      Yeah, I don't over think it and just use my ears. If it sounds undergained, raise the input gain. With tonex I often do that with values like +6 to +8 db's

    Honestly man I want to jam! I went through all of the looking for tone thing in the last year or two. I think we need to jam not be constantly searching through hundreds of presets trying to see if something will sound better. Thats my only thing with this stuff. I was going to buy Tonex but I backed out for that very reason. Honestly my real amp is hard to beat so I really don't know why I do it other than how it sounds with my real amp and a sim combined.

    I'm into modeleramps since the nineties. I had certain thoughts then.... till still today...while scrolling quickly tru the different amps, as we see and listen at he end of this video. ...modelersounds and captures, are nothing more than different EQ settings.... With one amp, a decent equaliser and the right eq setting, you can mimic any or each amp.
