One thing that impresses me about Noraly's travels - and I've followed her all over the world - is that she shows almost everywhere to be completely different to what we are told. People are largely friendly and helpful universally. People are people all over the world, just trying to get on with life, and it's just those in charge that are the problem!

Great history lesson of the people of Belize. NO Noraly does not have a teleprompter on Alaska like 99% of reporters use. She knows her stuff. You make border crossings look so easy. Caribbean sea! I hope Alaska avoids a boat ride.
There are a lot of great ferry crossings from island in BC, around Victoria Island for instance, and I suspect in Alaska too. In fact they're part of British Columbia's highway system. But she'd probably go too far and try running Alaska off a ferry to the back of a whale and bouncing up onto a glacier. I've also noticed she has a lot of information under that helmet. She is very mentally acute. I hope it serves her well as she travels north. I worry more about the northern latitudes, especially the US (the people) and remote parts of Canada and Alaska (the environment and critters) than I do about anything in South or Central America.
We all know Noraly will not resist going off paved roads in Mexico, US and Canada. Unlike most of the nations in Latin America that she has ridden through (with the possible exception of the Argentine Patagonia) the distances between towns is greater in those remote areas in the US, Mexico and Canada.
As somebody who has been to Belize a few times don’t you just freaking love how nice people are? You cross the border and it’s literally a different atmosphere! Go slow go easy I love Belize!!
I am Amish descendant my great grandfather broke a Amish rule and got kicked out of Amish community I did stay with aunt and cousins when was teen they dressed me up like them taught me the hard working ways and learned to speak the Pennsylvania Dutch language Great episode 👍🏻
He was building a kit car and rig up something to make light and one of the locals ratted him out it was a hobby he love building things and also we found out he wanted to marry the preacher daughter so we really think it was the real reason they shunned him out of the Amish Community he would of been my great grandfather Yoder

Found this online: Belize used to drive on the left hand side of the road. When US was joined to South America by road the PanAmerican Highway, it was decided that Belize would change so it could be like the rest of the Americas. When Belize changed, all the cars on the road had steering wheels on the wrong side. Talk about crazy. After several weeks of 'practicing' the official change came at midnight on a Saturday night. All clubs, lounges, etc. had to close at 11:30 to make sure there were no 'tipsy' people driving on the road. The fire engines led a parade over the swing bridge from the market side to Paslow side and everyone who wanted to join followed the fire engines. With great fanfare of horns, etc. the parade continued until early morning
Some years ago now in the 1970's there was a rather nasty confrontation between Belize and Guatemala that lead to some British military forces being stationed in the country to guarantee their border. This force included a flight of RAF Harrier jet aircraft which became a firm favourite with the Belize people, they seeing it a defender of their independence. Before the Harriers arrived during a period of high tension with what looked like an invasion force gathering on the border a flight of Buccaneer strike aircraft was launched from HMS Ark Royal to put on a demonstration of force over the threatened area. Fortunately the issue was in the end resolved without any serious fighting.
@@louburnett6782 Whoever wrote that article needs a geography lesson. The US is not connected to South America and the PanAmerican highway does not go to South America, it stops at the Darien gap in Panama (which is on the continent of North America).

Noraly, I’m Canadian Mennonite, embrace technology, only speak English, ride motorcycles and love to watch your adventures. You have encountered a small conservative branch of Mennonites. You are quite right about time constraints, if you want to make Alaska before freeze up.
We have Mennonite’s here in Middle Tennessee, USA and they too speak English, use automobiles, etc…. Most also speak what they call Pennsylvania Dutch.
John, yeah, the Mennonites i've come across in mexico and belize are much more like we'd find the Amish in N America. (grew up near Lancaster PA, with a good mixture of Amish and Mennonite)

Wow - what a fascinating history lesson on Belize! I only know it as a resort destination. I had no idea it had a significant Mennonite community that contributes heavily to the agriculture sector in the country! I loved the horse carriages blocking the road while the occupants talked. You were unexpected! :) I'm sure glad you puttered around in Central America - wonderstruck!
The Mennonites in the USA are more modern. Where I live in Washington state they drive cars and farm with tractors. The women wear dress just below the knew and a little hair net. Men do not wear the flat brimmed hats but caps. From the video the Mennonites in Belize look like the amish here in the US. The Mennonites here speak English well.

Noraly you hit the nail on the head when you described the Mennonites in Belize, where they came from and some of their traditions. It was impressive to hear. They left Canada because Canada was too progressive for them. They now live in a country where they can live according to their tradition and faith. Sounds pretty much like the Mennonites in PA (Pennsylvania). I used to get fresh eggs and whole milk from a farm nearby. I never knew they were down in Belize too.
Belize has a mixed variety of cultures like Creole, Mestizo, Mennonites Mayan and morethe mennonites also make houses that are taken to a location by a truck and police escorts
There is a community of Mennonites called Spanish Lookout that have accepted technology and have developed a larger advanced agricultural and business community. They speak mainly Low German but are almost all fluent in English

How interesting to learn about the Mennonites. That a pre electric community can dominate an industry speaks to the power of a unified group working toward a common goal. A lesson for all of us, specially in the states. Imagine how easily we could solve seemingly intractable problems like homelessness, immigration, income inequality, if we all cooperated from an agreed set of beliefs. Look what the Mennonites can do without electricity, imagine what we could do with shared purpose.
There used to be no homelessness except for those that wanted to roam. The ones with mental illness or drug/alcohol problems were put in taxpayer funded, government run facilities. Do you want to go back to that? Our only immigration issues are not securing our borders and vetting those who want to come here. It was on its way to being solved with the previous administration, but those in control of congress kept roadblocking. In the last year it was all reversed and we are being overrun. What income inequality? That is a myth. The only way you could equate someone's income would be to equate their contribution. I don't know any men who have the same job title that make the same money, yet the feminists say there is no income equality for women. There will never be a same set of beliefs in the US as long as there are liberals and conservatives.
There are several progressive groups of Mennonites in Belize. The ones that use no electricity etc are only selling like watermelons and other small items. The progressive ones have all the modern machinery to dominate rice, chicken and diary production
Technology has made us soft, and totally dependent on the government. We’re no better than caged animals in a zoo, totally dependent on their keepers to stay alive. My mother grew up like a Mennonite, living on a farm with no power no refrigeration and getting water from a rainwater tank. If everything goes belly up the Mennonite people will have the last laugh I reckon.

Look at Afghanistan where the return to a twelfth century lifestyle is being enforced by the Taliban- Will they all be " happy" from now on ? No way ! The strict rules of the cults are often a burden on many of the members to the point that they wish to escape , the " grass is always greener " pattern . Among the strict menno -amish segments there are considerable problems of alcohol abuse and domestic abuse which are kept quiet , or glossed over in hasty observations , They are just as prone to interpersonal squabbles as any other group . There is a steady rate of members wishing to drop out and who do so . , but with a high birth rate the sect is restocking constantly and the membership keeps expanding . With the restricted level of schooling common among the strict old-order cults such drop-outs have a tough go of it in the current techno advanced culture , like no modern technical job skills , which leads to more problems .
Its really evident how much research you must put into your travels as in every episode I learn more about the world we live in, its peoples history and culture - it really separates your channel from most others and its why a good week will always include itchy boots - and those shrimp skewers had me drooling :)
That's SO cool... I didn't know anything about the Mennonites being in Belize. Their lifestyle, the independence and self-reliance, is enviable these days. AND, there's an old Gold Rush song that goes, "North to Alaska, Go North, the Rush is on!". Not too rushed, I hope! But the winter there won't wait for anyone. Happy Trails!

When you get to the USA and Canada you need to ride from coast to coast. The east and west coasts are amazing. Our prairies can be a bit flat and boring for riding, but the people are amazing. We Canadians are a very friendly bunch. We love watching your videos. Stay safe.
A very refreshing view of Belize. I have friends that vacationed there and loved it, and then I watched Gringo: The Dangerous Life of John McAfee and got a very different view. Now I believe that his time there may have been shady because HE was shady and surrounded himself with shady people.... which could happen anywhere. Just a reminder to Noraly and everyone else to be careful when eating shrimp, to be sure they were kept refrigerated before being cooked. Two years ago, I was in New Zealand and ate shrimp at a restaurant. It turns out the shrimp tasted okay, but were actually bad. I spent six days in the hospital. Shrimp taste great, but spoil easily. Just be sure what you are eating.

Pero tanto Guatemala como Belice han sido hermosos, con paisajes increíbles, y en el caso de Guatemala, con el agregado de esas pirámides mayas perdidas en la selva, que fueron sorprendentes y absolutamente apasionantes!! Es muy agradable que muestres en detalle esos lugares. No te seguiría si fueras directo a Alaska, sin ingresar y compartir costumbres, comidas, trajes típicos, hablar con los habitantes (me encanta cuando lo haces en español) , paisajes y riquezas arqueológicas de cada país. The road from the river back toward Belize has improved incredibly since I traveled it in a Suzuki Samori. In 1991 the narrow road was littered with "sleeping policemen" known commonly as speed bumps. For miles on end, the locals would have scraped them off the pavement surface leaving a harmless black line between the warning signs. Then there would be the spot where the asphalt mound remained! I was glad the little 4x4 was a rental.

Nice to see that you had an epiphany about the distance. September is about the deadline to be heading through the Yukon. You will still have good weather, but you will also start experiencing snow. If you plan to be traveling that late you will need to upgrade your clothing. Glad to see a an easy passage into Belize. I was kind of surprised to see the prominence of English.
English is the official language of Belize and is spoken by 85% of the population. I was surprised, that she was surprised when he spoke to her in English.

There are a lot of great ferry crossings from island in BC, around Victoria Island for instance, and I suspect in Alaska too. In fact they're part of British Columbia's highway system. But she'd probably go too far and try running Alaska
off a ferry to the back of a whale and bouncing up onto a glacier.
I've also noticed she has a lot of information under that helmet. She is very mentally acute. I hope it serves her well as she travels north. I worry more about the northern latitudes, especially the US (the people) and remote parts of Canada and Alaska (the environment and critters) than I do about anything in South or Central America.

We all know Noraly will not resist going off paved roads in Mexico, US and Canada. Unlike most of the nations in Latin America that she has ridden through (with the possible exception of the Argentine Patagonia) the distances between towns is greater in those remote areas in the US, Mexico and Canada.

I am Amish descendant my great grandfather broke a Amish rule and got kicked out of Amish community I did stay with aunt and cousins when was teen they dressed me up like them taught me the hard working ways and learned to speak the Pennsylvania Dutch language

He was building a kit car and rig up something to make light and one of the locals ratted him out it was a hobby he love building things and also we found out he wanted to marry the preacher daughter so we really think it was the real reason they shunned him out of the Amish Community he would of been my great grandfather Yoder

English is the official language in Belize as it was a former British colony. Used to be called British Honduras.

Found this online: Belize used to drive on the left hand side of the road. When US was joined to South America by road the PanAmerican Highway, it was decided that Belize would change so it could be like the rest of the Americas. When Belize changed, all the cars on the road had steering wheels on the wrong side. Talk about crazy. After several weeks of 'practicing' the official change came at midnight on a Saturday night. All clubs, lounges, etc. had
to close at 11:30 to make sure there were no 'tipsy' people driving on the road. The fire engines led a parade over the swing bridge from the market side to Paslow side and everyone
who wanted to join followed the fire engines. With great fanfare of horns, etc. the parade continued until early morning

Some years ago now in the 1970's there was a rather nasty confrontation between Belize and Guatemala that lead to some British military forces being stationed in the country to guarantee their border. This force included a flight of RAF Harrier jet aircraft which became a firm favourite with the Belize people, they seeing it a defender of their independence. Before the Harriers arrived during a period of high tension with what looked like an invasion force gathering on the border a flight of Buccaneer strike aircraft was launched from HMS Ark Royal to put on a demonstration of force over the threatened area. Fortunately the issue was in the end resolved without any serious fighting.
@@louburnett6782 Whoever wrote that article needs a geography lesson. The US is not connected to South America and the PanAmerican highway does not go to South America, it stops at the Darien gap in Panama (which is on the continent of North America).

We have Mennonite’s here in Middle Tennessee, USA and they too speak English, use automobiles, etc…. Most also speak what they call Pennsylvania Dutch.

John, yeah, the Mennonites i've come across in mexico and belize are much more like we'd find the Amish in N America. (grew up near Lancaster PA, with a good mixture of Amish and Mennonite)

Wow - what a fascinating history lesson on Belize! I only know it as a resort destination. I had no idea it had a significant Mennonite community that contributes heavily to the agriculture sector in the country! I loved the horse carriages blocking the road while the occupants talked. You were unexpected! :) I'm sure glad you puttered around in Central America - wonderstruck!
They call the Mennonites now the Moneynites in Belize 🤣 (because they make a lot of money with the agriculture…)
The Mennonites in the USA are more modern. Where I live in Washington state they drive cars and farm with tractors. The women wear dress just below the knew and a little hair net. Men do not wear the flat brimmed hats but caps. From the video the Mennonites in Belize look like the amish here in the US. The Mennonites here speak English well.
Also note that a number of Mennonites went to Belize a few years ago, when a colony from Sarasota, FL decided to immigrate there.
Supposedly, in Mexico they make up a population of 100.000.

Noraly you hit the nail on the head when you described the Mennonites in Belize, where they came from and some of their traditions. It was impressive to hear. They left Canada because Canada was too progressive for them. They now live in a country where they can live according to their tradition and faith. I have Mennonite roots living in Canada, enjoying the modern advances that have been made. Take care and stay safe.
This brings back memories of when I was in Belize 36 years ago. It is a beautiful country with wonderful people.
Sounds pretty much like the Mennonites in PA (Pennsylvania). I used to get fresh eggs and whole milk from a farm nearby. I never knew they were down in Belize too.
Belize has a mixed variety of cultures like Creole, Mestizo, Mennonites Mayan and morethe mennonites also make houses that are taken to a location by a truck and police escorts
There is a community of Mennonites called Spanish Lookout that have accepted technology and have developed a larger advanced agricultural and business community. They speak mainly Low German but are almost all fluent in English

How interesting to learn about the Mennonites. That a pre electric community can dominate an industry speaks to the power of a unified group working toward a common goal. A lesson for all of us, specially in the states. Imagine how easily we could solve seemingly intractable problems like homelessness, immigration, income inequality, if we all cooperated from an agreed set of beliefs. Look what the Mennonites can do without electricity, imagine what we could do with shared purpose.
There used to be no homelessness except for those that wanted to roam. The ones with mental illness or drug/alcohol problems were put in taxpayer funded, government run facilities. Do you want to go back to that? Our only immigration issues are not securing our borders and vetting those who want to come here. It was on its way to being solved with the previous administration, but those in control of congress kept roadblocking. In the last year it was all reversed and we are being overrun. What income inequality? That is a myth. The only way you could equate someone's income would be to equate their contribution. I don't know any men who have the same job title that make the same money, yet the feminists say there is no income equality for women. There will never be a same set of beliefs in the US as long as there are liberals and conservatives.
There are several progressive groups of Mennonites in Belize. The ones that use no electricity etc are only selling like watermelons and other small items. The progressive ones have all the modern machinery to dominate rice, chicken and diary production
Technology has made us soft, and totally dependent on the government.
We’re no better than caged animals in a zoo, totally dependent on their keepers to stay alive.
My mother grew up like a Mennonite, living on a farm with no power no refrigeration and getting water from a rainwater tank.
If everything goes belly up the Mennonite people will have the last laugh I reckon.

Look at Afghanistan where the return to a twelfth century lifestyle is being enforced by the Taliban- Will they all be " happy" from now on ? No way ! The strict rules of the cults are often a burden on many of the members to the point that they wish to escape , the " grass is always greener " pattern . Among the strict menno -amish segments there are considerable problems of alcohol abuse and domestic abuse which are kept quiet , or glossed over in hasty observations , They are just as prone to interpersonal squabbles as any other group . There is a steady rate of members wishing to drop out and who do so . , but with a high birth rate the sect is restocking constantly and the membership keeps expanding . With the restricted level of schooling common among the strict old-order cults such drop-outs have a tough go of it in the current techno advanced culture , like no modern technical job skills , which leads to more problems .
Its really evident how much research you must put into your travels as in every episode I learn more about the world we live in, its peoples history and culture - it really separates your channel from most others and its why a good week will always include itchy boots - and those shrimp skewers had me drooling :)

That's SO cool... I didn't know anything about the Mennonites being in Belize. Their lifestyle, the independence and self-reliance, is enviable these days. AND, there's an old Gold Rush song that goes, "North to Alaska, Go North, the Rush is on!". Not too rushed, I hope! But the winter there won't wait for anyone. Happy Trails!

When you get to the USA and Canada you need to ride from coast to coast. The east and west coasts are amazing. Our prairies can be a bit flat and boring for riding, but the people are amazing. We Canadians are a very friendly bunch. We love watching your videos. Stay safe.

A very refreshing view of Belize. I have friends that vacationed there and loved it, and then I watched Gringo: The Dangerous Life of John McAfee and got a very different view. Now I believe that his time there may have been shady because HE was shady and surrounded himself with shady people.... which could happen anywhere. Looking forward to watching the rest of the videos. I got way behind and am trying to catch up!

Just a reminder to Noraly and everyone else to be careful when eating shrimp, to be sure they were kept refrigerated before being cooked. Two years ago, I was in New Zealand and ate shrimp at a restaurant. It turns out the shrimp tasted okay, but were actually bad. I spent six days in the hospital. Shrimp taste great, but spoil easily. Just be sure what you are eating.

The road from the river back toward Belize has improved incredibly since I traveled it in a Suzuki Samori. In 1991 the narrow road was littered with "sleeping policemen" known commonly as speed bumps. For miles on end, the locals would have scraped them off the pavement surface leaving a harmless black line between the warning signs. Then there would be the spot where the asphalt mound remained! I was glad the little 4x4 was a rental.

Nice to see that you had an epiphany about the distance. September is about the deadline to be heading through the Yukon. You will still have good weather, but you will also start experiencing snow. It would be nice if you can visit the little islands of the coast that we call Cayes (Keys). We also have the world’s second largest barrier reef and a great big blue hole.
