Thomas Sowell has great wisdom and has lived through all of this before and knows what he's taking about. We need his knowledge and wisdom today. I recommend all of his books 📚 Great author, Great Man.

Ask any leftist why the father can't be part of the family. It drives them insane.

I white and my family lived in Harlem before I was born in 1943 and they never had any problems, in fact my mother said all their neighbors were hard working people and whites and blacks got a long just fine …..

So why did whites flee Harlem after WW II leading into the 1950s?

Makes me remember my dad telling us kids to stop crying before he gives us something to cry about. This was during the 'spare the rod spoil the child' days.

The only effective form of social safety is one that forces personal responsibility whilst always helping people start participating in the market.
Social safety should be a trampoline not a net. It should provide resources but in a manner that no one living on it will be happy or satisfied, and that they can only live on it if they use the resources responsibly. Nothing about modern governance and education fosters autonomy, and that’s a flaw which is slowly stifling all progress.

What has 70 years of planned obsolescence done for the United States? Economists do not say much about the Net Domestic Product and the Depreciation of durable consumer goods.

We need a social safety net and we need for it to be properly run. Incentivize marriage, require education and vocational training, set a time limit of 5 years with incentives to get in the skilled workforce sooner rather than later, no extra money for more babies born while on aid. Only the truly disabled need permanent support and many of them would do better with programs to keep them out of the house and busy in a supportive environment. It’s money up front that saves big money a few years later.

My black father forced me to collect food stamps to pay for his cocaine addiction with sexual and physical violence from 1980 to 1999 . My suffering all ended with the end of the welfare state so thank you for your service Mister Sowell

Feel embarrassed for Dr. Sowell by the come-on banner on the preview screen. It declares “They are worst than slavery”. Worst indicates an absolute extremely bad case. I suspect that the intended meaning is that of “worse”, not “worst”, indicating a relatively bad situation. Dr. Sowell would understand the difference, but his 7th-grade webpage author does not yet, and it shows him in a bad light.

Interesting research finding, but it is not relevant to the question. Obama is just one of many democrat presidents in the 20th century. IMHO, African Americans support overwhelmingly the Democratic Party because of its policies of equality, wealth distribution and opportunity for all, regardless of whether they are productive or not. When your group has been enslaved, abused, exploited since the beginning of
the republic, how would you react? Wouldn’t you have supported the human rights movement of the 60’s? Or would you follow the social policies and behaviors
of your oppressors? The failure of reconstruction, the Jim Crow era, segregation….massive mistakes. Collectively, they interpret liberal policies as “reparations”.
    Just my opinion.
P.S. I do not agree with the “welfare state”, it has had VERY negative consequences where I live, Puerto Rico.
