Al Ligertwood is one of the most underrated vocalists in rock and roll! His voice combines the smoothness of Steve Winwood and Steve Perry and fits perfectly with that of Carlos!
Carlos has always surrounded himself with the best musicians and in my opinion has always had the best percussionists on planet Earth but does anyone else agree that David Margen was the best Bass player Santana ever had? He seemed to drive Carlos as much as the drummers and he sound was more noticable than other Santana bassists.
Yes David was amazing, but his predecessor Pablo Tellez was pretty amazing too, here's a great concert with him ruclips.net/video/UhWOlS2gT3s/видео.html Pablo really pushed the groove. It's really a shame Carlos never brought any of his classic 70's/80's members back in the 90's and 2000's to enjoy the spotlight after his commerical sellout Supernatural went huge. That album sucked and wans't even really a Santana album, just a bunch of then 'hip' guests. But real Santana fans know the best stuff is all pre 90's. The band he has today and for the last 20+ years is just like a covers band doing kaoroke of the stuff the classic guys created. As for David, he wound up in prison on the 90's for a real estate scam he was part of. There's a couple of cool interviews with him on here if you look him up, still plays in side bands to this day.
Incidence at Neshbur - Santana transports us to the emotional climax...there is so much purity, clarity, space, feeling, sweetness, depth in his playing and the way he "crafts" his notes. This is timeless music. We are so grateful to you Sir for enriching our lives so much.
One of my dear friends sent this link to me this morning on the 4th of July 2023, which brought back a lot of beautiful memories, because I worked the whole entire Us Festival, and during Santana's set I went right down in front of the stage where my crew was behind the barricade fire hosing off the crowd to keep them cool! Santana put on an amazingly powerful & blistering set in the hot San Bernardino sun that afternoon. Carlos will be 76 years old on 7/20/23! 🧙♂️🪄🙏🎸🎤🎶🥰🪘🎹🥁❤️🔥
Memories of a 10 year old and sneaking my brothers vinyl of Marathon and later Zeebop onto the turntable and marvelling at the band and the voice of Ligertwood. I was the only 10-11 year old at my local school who knew every name of each band member of that period of Santana.
This was the best three days of my life. I was dancing with a nude chick. As I looked down, her husband handed me a joint, and it was a very good time. I was only 19 then & I'm 61 now & I will never forget it. Good times, good LSD...😊😊😊😊
How many people think that Michael Shrieve and Graham Lear are a doppelgänger for each other??!! I mistakenly took Shrieve for Lear while watching. Both fine drummers and their facial expressions when working reminds me of Shrieve/Santana from Woodstock!! Ligertwood sounds great!
I am from Argentina...and at 55 years old...I follow Santana from 13 years old...I have a lot of material...cassette...vinyls and videos...I love Carlos Santana and his music❤
Paul Reed Smith makes great guitars but that Yamaha that Carlos had cut through the mix better. I think it's really his signature sound and it cries to the heavens when Carlos picks it up.
I saw santana in philly 1978 at the spectrum with the funk band slave and kool and the gang ! Slave played first then kool and the gang then santana played for almost 3 hrs unbelievable show ! We were about 10 rows from the stage on the floor all for $ 7.50 !
Santana Band at its Peak so many hits ¡ Great Era for Carlos. Orestes Vilato was also a Gamechanger Graham Lear, Al the best Vocalist of Santana an Awesome Voice. Great Times ¡❤❤🙏🙏🎸🎸
There are some killer performaces of him on yt in recent years. The Magic Of Santana vids featuring Alex and Tony Lindsay from '2013 are awesome, especially Hold On.Alex has aged like a fine wine!
I forgot Raul Rekow y Armando Peraza¡ También Chepito Areas y Pete Escovedo .so many great talent Neal Schon Gregg Rollie came from the School of Carlos ¡❤❤🙏🙏 God Bless Him his Music and everybody here¡✌
in the 70's When Santana Band came to Guatemala city!! played in Mateo Flores national stadium, my brother will sell drinks there. and was very close to Carlos! all dressed in white.
I watched this concert many times through the years. Then it appeared to be taken down. Very sad! Perhaps a copyright between Alex and Carlos. It robbed fans of this most excellent collaboration. Now it is back! Thanks!
September 4th, 1982. I remember when Pat Benatar played her set (after Santana) and we joked that she was wearing the same top as Raul Rekow.... RIP señor 🙏
Carlos takes me 2 another space n time dig his beautiful sound always... I hope 2 c him live again met him him in San Francisco 1999 cinco de mio.. His amazing sounds has help me through hard times.. Blessings ❤
Now you're talking. Best albums, along with Inner Secrets. Miss this period. Wish he would at least do some songs from these albums. Seems to have abandoned them.
At Woodstock,Carlos & company literally ripped every other act a new asshole.12 years later, with even better gear, they done it again at US.A proven track record.Even at the interrupted Concert For Americas, they were the ultimate showpiece.
Carlos may be a sweet guy but God help you if you are in his group and can't get your shit together. That falls into his zero tolerance policy. He wont be such a nice guy in the event a band member can't get their head out of their ass.
Im not agree PRS sounds also great he do somme very great song with PRS like victory is won or blues for salvador but im agree to say that the first model of PRS sounds not good but since 2000 the PRS guitar sounds great
And yet, when US Festival 1983 happened in May of that year, Santana didn't perform. They would have been available too to play on Rock Day, as their European tour had just ended.
Someone help me out. I wish I could find the last segment of the interview that gives a powerful message to all generations to put down the guitar hero or put down the video game & pick up a real guitar & keep plugging away at that guitar riff because in the end when everything is going to shit. Music is what makes the difference.

Those gigs of Santana never released on official live albums. Too bad, isn´t it? And the DVD of this masterpiece for fans in the U.S. only. Not comprehensibly.
Kleingartenverein Carl-Brune-Stiftung e.V. It’s a shame really. Probably something to do with the rights ( the event was recorded....video/audio) I keep waiting /hoping for the documentary. I was there ( along with 300,000 friends ) I’m sure we all hope for a quality documentary released.
does the sound work for you guys? I cant watch this all muffled but maybe its my equipment. I will go mess around and come back. I was there and I want to share it with my 17 year old daughter because I was about her age then. I wasnt always mom.
Al Ligertwood is one of the most underrated vocalists in rock and roll! His voice combines the smoothness of Steve Winwood and Steve Perry and fits perfectly with that of Carlos!
The quintessential front man, too!
You got that right..thank you!
I agree, reminds me of Steve Perry!

Dougie Rauch has never been equaled.

Ligertwood was the ultimate front man. What a voice, too.

Same here bro, I’m 53 and Dominican 🇩🇴😎🎸🪘🥁
Carlos Santana and the rest of the band members played fantastic 👏 awesome 👌 love it classic rock 🎸 👌 😀
Santana at their best! Ligertwood, Margen, Lear, Vilato, Rekow, Peraza, Baker ... oh my, what a lineup.
Yes back in the early 80s... Love Carlos and his Band Members!!! Lots of Blessings for this band and all fans of the world!!!
You should still love them, they are awesome!!😎🎸🪘🥁
Man, I was looking for this video for YEARS before it finally appeared. Santana at its peak! Down with the "Smooth" stuff ...
Best line up.
Absolutely!
Paul Reed Smith makes great guitars but that Yamaha that Carlos had cut through the mix better. I think it's really his signature sound and it cries to the heavens when Carlos picks it up.
Yes, and he played the Yamaha in just one song in that concert. When he received his PRS he never looked back.
Thank you for the upload. This made my day...much needed. I Love you Carlos - Blessings
That set list was on 🔥🔥🔥
Even Marbles
I saw santana in philly 1978 at the spectrum with the funk band slave and kool and the gang ! Slave played first then kool and the gang then santana played for almost 3 hrs unbelievable show ! We were about 10 rows from the stage on the floor all for $ 7.50 !
Totally ridiculous with the tickets prices. 😮
I saw him at the Beacon Theater,NY before all the Grammys. It was awesome !!🎸🪘🥁🤩😎

Agree on all points.
Absolutely incredible performance! Ligertwood is masterful. Santana por Vida
Ligertwood was the supreme singer.
There are some killer performaces of him on yt in recent years. The Magic Of Santana vids featuring Alex and Tony Lindsay from '2013 are awesome, especially Hold On.Alex has aged like a fine wine!
he really is ! i would of seen him along with Journey
Seems a new, perhaps version has been recently in 2021 or, I have missed this version somehow after an extensive search. Most excellent!
@@daveconlin8342 I agree! I've recently just discovered these and realised how much I missed Alex's voice. Shame he's not singing with him lately.

Much love from Africa my guitar King 🎸🎵👏👏🙏❤❤❤
I watched this concert many times through the years. Then it appeared to be taken down. Very sad! Perhaps a copyright between Alex and Carlos. It robbed fans of this most excellent collaboration. Now it is back! Thanks!
Now I think am watching an even better version of what I seem to first remember. Enjoying this rendition!
September 4th, 1982. I remember when Pat Benatar played her set (after Santana) and we joked that she was wearing the same top as Raul Rekow.... RIP señor 🙏

They are absolute masters of their craft. Savor, percussion unbelievable, so tight. Incident, with double H...brilliant.

@ Santana - US Festival 82
At Woodstock,Carlos & company literally ripped every other act a new asshole.12 years later, with even better gear, they done it again at US.A proven track record.Even at the interrupted Concert For Americas, they were the ultimate showpiece.
That Concert for the Americas was off the charts. Playing right through a severe storm, wow!
Carlos may be a sweet guy but God help you if you are in his group and can't get your shit together. That falls into his zero tolerance policy. He wont be such a nice guy in the event a band member can't get their head out of their ass.
@@spunbearing65 Well, I hear you. I remember him saying he would "send a band member home to mommy" if he whined about something that Carlos wanted.
@@TonyGMusic Exactly. People get their panties in a bunch and call it a "rash act". Please!
The boss is the boss is da" boss.
Carlos be the boss.

Excellence DEMANDS excellence. Way it should be in everything, not just music.
fantastic concert and awesome band members awesome 👌
This singer worked really well with Carlos imo.
Yes, Alex Ligertwood was one of Carlos's absolute best lead singers
He was incredible.
Awesome Performance indeed
If Carlos Santana hooked up with Jeff Beck, thats it-Beyond has been reached.
Awesome band at US Festival Awesome fantastic show
I was THERE and the sound of that Yamaha is better than the PRS
I agree, it's a shame he stopped using it.
Everyone forgets about El" Torcho-Cooked SG. He fucking killed on that too. PAF or P90,he still kills.
He never sounded better than when he was using the Les Paul 1971-74.
Im not agree PRS sounds also great he do somme very great song with PRS like victory is won or blues for salvador but im agree to say that the first model of PRS sounds not good but since 2000 the PRS guitar sounds great
Very very very good.
Muito bom curti muito

Agreed! Sounds like Latin Rock mixed with Iron Maiden!
Carlos Santana and the band members awesome 👌 😅
Any rock band with 4 drummers is automatically cool
And yet, when US Festival 1983 happened in May of that year, Santana didn't perform. They would have been available too to play on Rock Day, as their European tour had just ended.
2 very nice PRS single cut guitars and a Tory Nittono acoustic in the background. NICE !!
From Jalisco Mexico SANTANA
I can almost smell the bouquet of body sweat, ganja smoke, patchouli, and Don's Johns.
Michael Shrieve Awesome ¡ Drummer
It's Graham Lear
“Wanted: Santana drummer. Job Requirements: must kick ass and look exactly like former drummer.”
Epic concert !
Someone help me out. If you are a weak drummer, you will never take the stage with Santana.Same goes for a fucking drum machine.
