- Hurricane Ian is continuing to quickly intensify and has prompted hurricane and storm surge warnings for parts of the Tampa Bay area. As of the 5 p.m. advisory, the storm has strengthened into a category 2 hurricane with winds now up to 100 mph.

When i lived in Springhill, Fl. about an hour North of Tampa, this is the only Weatherman i would watch! No Drama, No scare Tactics, just 100% facts and honesty! When you hear him say, we don't have the skill, that is being brutally honest! Make sure you prepare your property, and have 2 weeks or water, and non perishables. Living in South and central Fl. for 60 years, i've been through worse!!

if you live in Florida here's a tip take a empty 2 L ( as many as you want) fill it with water about 1/3 of the way then freeze it if you lose power it'll help keep your refrigerator cool

Been living in Florida since 67, been through many Hurricanes. The combination of a Hurricane with an approaching cold front is a forecasting nightmare.
Please cover the storm you're the best weatherman, kept me calm in Polk Country during the other ones. The only one who reported other areas during it, and you followed it the whole time. I know you had to be exhausted after the other one. Thnak you so much.

I remember hurricane charlie. Cat 5 heading tampa, last minute it turned 90 degrees and hit 45 min south. To Sarasota area.

In 2004, we had the worse hurricanes since this one, the power was out for over a week all over Florida, so schools were closed for most of the state, i would expect this to be a similar situation. This looks like the hurricanes from 2004.
If that is your biggest worry,,,,,,, I think you will be OK.

I live in Clearwater bracing for direct hit! Weirdly enough, my property doesn’t sit on an “evacuation zone” I literally live 1 mile from safety harbor bay.

C-Zone here in South Venice. I am a 77 year old handicapped USCG Vet. I have a small Terrier Dog, and I just received my wife's (of 55 years) cremains. She passed on the 13th of September. I am out of my mind with worry to the point of mental-paralysis. Where do I go? What do I do? How do I get there? I don't know how long I can tread water anymore, if it get to that point. My mind and heart are broken and seem to be out of order.
It's going to hit Tampa soon after Low Tide at noon.
That should almost completely eliminate a dangerous storm surge.

I went through Andrew, Irma (in the keys, direct hit), and now Ian in (protected Tampa Bay).
Last direct hit was a Cat 3 in 1921 with a few glancing blows.

I hate hurricanes.
Hurricanes/Tropical storms are nature's way of replenishing the water table of sub-tropical regions (e.g. Florida). Florida needs all the fresh water it can get as the state has had a water shortage for a very long time due to the huge influx of people moving there over the past four decades.
