How will Hurricane Ian impact Tampa Bay?

- From Citrus County to Highlands County, FOX 13's meteorologist Dave Osterberg offers what can be expected for each county in the viewing area based on the current forecast track for Hurricane Ian, as of Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022.
The Tampa Bay area will begin feeling the impacts of Hurricane Ian as soon as Wednesday when tropical storm-force winds enter the region.
While the cone of uncertainty is getting smaller as the major hurricane begins trekking toward the west coast of Florida, it also means there is less of a chance for much change in the forecast.

This is bad, but we'll survive it.

Born and raised on the west coast of Florida. In my 42 years this hurricane is the one that's got me the most nervous. Normally it's like meh.....
Just because it always seems to turn away from where I'm living but none of us are invincible and we need to be prepared. We've had plenty of time to get our affairs in order and find shelter
The news doesn't even know if it's getting stronger. Be prepared but this is far from the worst yall gotten
This man said "I think, and I think"
Tampa hasn’t had a direct hit since 1921!😮
Prepare for the worst and pray for the best.
Meh, born and raised in Tampa and not worried the slightest. Fear mongering and panic buying is what really scares people. Remember Irma, or Andrew or the list goes on. We get hit then you can’t do anything but even then it won’t be bad.
Please everyone if you have pets do not leave them behind. If you are unable to evacuate with them, then call your local rescue or shelter! God bless you all!!
Local rescues will be dealing with the animals they have they're always over crowed anyway. Like Elle points out it's up the owner. In practice most places will end allowing pets or rather they wont force the issue. So asking for forgiveness might be easier than getting permission first. If at all possible stay with them.
I've lived in Florida most of my life. I'd say we've been blessed many times that the hurricanes, either changed it's path,or weakened before it hit. My mom's house is a Jim Walter wood framed house that sits about 36 minutes away from Tampa. It's still standing.
** I've been praying for another miracle for Florida.🙏
** My older sister lived in a house in Auburndale that was hit by hurricane Charles & hurricane Francis. It did damage to their roof & ripped up trees by the roots.
She called me & said that they could hear transformers exploding down the street.
** I remember the fear that they described as hurricane Charlie was shaking their old house..
** Things happen.. My sister & her husband didn't have money for upkeep & damages on their old house & it needed a complete remodel from electrical to plumbing, too much work for them to afford,so they sold their house & moved into trailers where they & their adult children are renting trailers in a park in Lakeland. My sister is very nervous about hurricane Ian because of going through the back to back hurricanes in their house & now they're all living in trailers in a park & she says they can't go to shelters because of pets & also she would need help getting up & down because she just had surgery on both of her knees..
** I told her that I've been praying & that God is bigger than any storm..
Prayers for all in the path of hurricane Ian,especially my fellow Floridians.🙏💖🙌
❤sending prayers down south. I am in Lake Co. and my son is down there. Hope all stay safe. ❤

Yah.... no.... everyone talks tough until that storm surge comes in and you have nowhere to go.
The same way that hurricanes always impact the areas they hit.
There will be tons of wind, rain, and flooding, with isolated tornadoes doing the worst damage inland.
I've ridden out more of them than I ever wanted to,.. scary stuff. Hoping the best for everyone in Florida!!!
Coastline storm surge is going to be something lifelong residents have never seen. A slow moving 24 hour hurricane making landfall at Wed night 1am which is the exact moment of the monthly new moon high tide. If you leave near the coast, leave now.
@@ret4kind Yes, storm surge is always a legitimate concern for people living close to the coast line.
On shore the storm surge is the biggest threat, inland it is tornadoes.
If one can afford to evacuate, that is always the safest bet. Unfortunately, for many working class folks, battening down the hatches and hoping for the best is all they can do.

The fact that my town Cape Coral is right now in the tail of the storm is a bit terrifying for me and others aswell. And I'm not as worried now because my home town Cape Coral is lowering the wiers of the canals in my area. That way the Strom surge wouldn't be as bad and will go into the canals instead.
Cape Coral can lower the water levels in your canal, salt water, I thought it was tides that did that. Please explain…and stay safe!🙏🏻. I’m in St Pete…
I was in Cape Coral for Charlie, the storm surge brought the water from the canals on the streets but then receded afterwards and there was dead fish EVERYWHERE.
I just moved to the Cape two weeks ago from NYC and this will be my first Florida storm 😅 I’m kinda scared because I’m around a lot of water front houses but my street isn’t a flood zone
@@YktvTommy honestly the houses in cape are built to withstand the winds and debris.

Just reliving some moments I missed. I really didn’t fear this storm Bc every storm since Irma turned away from Florida & I thought “watch it take the panhandle track at the last moment” and apparently I was wrong…Really really wrong. 3rd hurricane in a row where they tell Pinellas to evacuate to Orlando and it misses Pinellas and hits Orlando.
We just got hit here in Nova Scotia with Hurricane Fiona and the winds on Halifax's bridge reached 150mph. This storm for the Maritime's has been devastating. Praying for you all in Florida. We are still without power and had to relocate that is how I'm able to be typing this now. Get a generator if you can; a camping cook stove-top, and enough food and water for more than 72 hours. They told us we would only need supplies for 72 hours but our power will be out more than a week it looks like. Stay safe y'all.
Great Comment! I live in Ontario but grew up on the West Coast of Florida (Pinellas County) and have experienced a Cat 1 hurricane in the 1960's and several tropical storms. Great job predicting that path of that storm.
You have 3 days to evacuate. So don’t blame the government if something bad happens to those who refuse to heed the warning.
A lot of people cannot afford to just up and run every time bad weather heads their way.
Sometimes battening down the hatches and hoping for the best is all they can do.
That is simply working class life on the gulf coast.
Last time you can blame diseases on the Government, suddenly you can't blame the Governments for doing a horrible evacuation.
They really should start locking people up for not evacuating, send a strong message that this is not a gm, the fear of being locked up with gang bangers n murderers should scare these idiots straight

Lets see if it hops back to the Atlantic like I think it will.
Its gonna gain strength passing cuba to the gulf and on top of that the cold front come down is whats pushing it more east.

What dose it say

Euro models are updated every year while gfs is updated every few years. Gfs is our system.

@Jonathan Rolon the euro models said that it would hit Tampa head on since 2 days ago. It was the other models including American that were pushing it the cone to the East earlier. So yea, I think so far euro is more accurate since it has changed very little as time has gone on for this storm.
