This food is not authentic at all... There is nothing right about that rendang. You do not precook the beef to make rendang. And to cook it for just 15 mins? That's blasphemy! Authentic rendang is a whole day affair, and it has to be cooked slowly for hours and hours and hours. And you do not use lemongrass or chili powder in sambal. Achar (pickle) is not a traditional accompaniment for nasi lemak at all. But I guess most of his customers are whites (or whitewashed)... so of course they will be fooled easily...

But wait..thai, Chinese and all other country become Malaysian dish? Nahhhhhh....i think this uncle make American confused.. Malaysia got this 3 big races Malay, Chinese and Indian + Kadazan, dusun etc makes into variety Malaysian dish..even his nasi lemak looks not authentic at all..what i can see is he just focus only on Malaysian Chinese dishes..ask Uncle Roger if you're not trusting me..

Pribumi (Malay, Dayak), Chinese, India. Northern Malaysia influence by southern thai food, they come from same descendants. Same name but diff taste and cook from central thai.

He said from the start even though he called it Malaysian, it is actually fusion. He clearly explains it. A lot of Malaysian restaurants overseas have to have a "western" menu for the Western audience, a "chinese" menu for the Greater China /HK/Taiwan folks and a "malaysian" menu for the Malaysian folks. If not, no business and can close the shop tomorrow.

Well from the look of it ... its nasi lemak USA influence !!!! NASI LEMAK should have sambal ikan bilis , and instead rendang , usually nasi lemak goes with AYAM GORENG REMPAH ... And its not malaysia if there no SALAI !! and offcourse ROTI JALA with lamb shank

i think it does have to tweak it for the local taste bud. Trust me, not every westerners are able accept sambal or ikan bilis, some could not take the spicy level, some thinks it stinks. at least some of my friends thinks that sambal stinks like durian, and ikan bilis with the fish head still attached is absolutely discusting. :D

Restaurants like this spread across most countries and the food they offering, sadly will be moderated at best.
They tried too hard to be the best of all malayaians best dishes and will fall short big time.
Most vendors in malaysia spent their live times to perfect their skill on one dish..
Here they do 10+ dishes under one roof. Can cheat foreigners only.

Americans can't really eat authentic Asian food. Also it was done almost everywhere, Malaysia is no exception. For example, tom yum. Malaysian tom yum is sweet. Then dishes like char koay teow, Malay one has gravy. Malay or mamak popiah are sweeter.
