Between 1973 and 1985, the Rheinbahn bought a total of 119 MB O 305 (No. 6100, 6101-6120, 6201-6256 and 6601-6637). Many of these buses had a Mercedes automatic transmission.
The O 305 buses with manual transmission were mainly used on the lines in the northern district of Mettmann (Ratingen, Mettmann, Erkrath, Haan, Heiligenhaus, Wülfrath, Velbert).
Most of these buses were based in the depots Mettmann and (Ratingen-) Tiefenbroich.
The Rheinbahn procured exclusively O 305 with StULB front, only one demonstrator (No. 6100, built in 1973) had a VOV front.
The last O 305 was retired in 2000.
The bus No. 6637 was located in the depot Mettmann and was preserved after his retirement.
This bus is used for charter trips and on special occasions (open house, historic public transport meetings, etc.).
The first two recordings were made during a special trip to the Open Monument Day 2014.
Between 11 am and 6 pm two historic Rheinbahn buses (MB O 305, No. 6637 and MAN SG 192, No. 8291) operated between Benrath Castle (Dusseldorf), Haus Burgel (Monheim) and Schloss Garath (Dusseldorf).
The last two recordings were made during a special trip on August 31, 2014, to the open day at the Schauspielhaus (Theatre) Dusseldorf.
Between 2 pm and 6 pm, the MB O 305 operated between the Schauspielhaus (Theatre) on Gustaf-Grundgens-Place and the theater workshops "Central" at the central station.
