- Yamaha’s MT-07 naked bike ($7,699) has been a home run hit for the Tuning Fork brand since its 2015 MY introduction. Pairing fun, versatility, and ease of ownership, this parallel-twin powered street bike has 25,000 happy owners to date. For ‘21, Yamaha adds a level of refinement making it a more worthy choice for novice and more experienced riders alike.
--
Swing a leg over the 406-pound MT and you’re welcomed with a slim riding position courtesy of its ultracompact 689cc CP2 engine. The ergonomics are a tad taller-rider-friendly courtesy of a wider and higher-positioned aluminum handlebar. Still, the bar bend is a tad conversative for our tastes with considerable rearward sweep. The seat affords above average level of comfort and the foot controls are neither too high, nor too low.
Release the well-weighted cable-actuated clutch and the torque-rich twin pulls off the line without fuss. This engine delivers 87 percent of its peak torque (46 pound-feet) from upwards of 3,500 rpm. This makes for plenty of passing power in any of the six gears. Speaking of the transmission, the second and third gears have been massaged for smoother shifts. Unlike the R7, the powertrain doesn’t include a slipper clutch.
Despite not employing a ride-by-wire throttle (and associated electronic throttle adjustment maps), the twist grip offers a pleasing response that’s neither too aggressive, nor too soft. Combined with its punchy twin and well-balanced chassis that makes for a ridiculously easy streetbike to wheelie. We also noted a deeper intake roar and still pleasing overall engine character, with just the right amount of engine vibration.
Horsepower-wise the engine is good for 67 ponies at the rear tire. Traction control is also absent. But considering how smooth and connected-feeling the engine is with the 180-series Michelin Road 5, we don’t consider it a deal breaker. We noted a 37.5 mpg average during mostly high-speed riding.
Chassis-wise, we’re big fans of how nimble this MT is. We are also pleased with its overall balance. The suspenders perform well at a casual street pace, but you feel larger bumps through the controls. At an elevated pace, the suspension doesn’t feel as planted as other bikes in this segment with odd damping response, especially over anything but smooth pavement. Suspension adjustment is limited to spring preload and rebound damping at the shock body.
Larger diameter front brakes do a fine job of slowing down the MT-07 and we like the responsive feel of the rear brake, too. Fixed, always-on ABS prevents instability during brake application.
A clean-looking LCD keeps tabs on vehicle vitals and is easy to read at a glance. We appreciate the ability to adjust screen brightness-a plus for riding after dark (in the brightest setting, the display creates a lot of glare). Full LED lighting not only looks good but performs excellently during night rides.
Suspension woes aside, the MT-07 continues to impress with its versatility and ease of use, especially in urban environments. We adore its powertrain-and its LED lighting package is a game changer for night rides. Factor in its extended maintenance intervals, (6,000-mile oil changes, 12,000 oil filter changes, and 26,600 valve adjustment intervals) and the MT is a worthy option for urban-focused riders.

I am perfectly happy with Adams sentence construction and his pronunciation is outstanding. I personally detest these motormouth jibber-jabber RUclipsrs who speedrap through their videos. I would rather listen to 100 Adams parsing their words carefully and being correct then the morass of near-idiots who jumble phrases and expressions not to mention committing various grammatical atrocities... Let's remember Adam has to be correct and accurate in his reviews while riding a motorcycle which is dangerous. Voice wise, I would describe Adam as a native-born Californian and not someone who came to this country and learned English as a second language; if he did he has brilliant English skills. As a Los Angeles native you sound perfectly great to me. Personally I don't know any other languages except computers and a little bit of Latin. Adam you sound like a native to me. Please ignore their silly remarks about speech Cadence, if you reach the Keanu Reeves level I'll write you another memo.
"grammatical atrocities" I just learned a great expression for internet discussions. :D (as a non-native english speak)
I find it endearing, to be honest.

Adam : Its almost like Yamaha knows a thing or two about acoustic and audio timing
Yamaha : well we do make guitars, piano and other music instruments
Lexus LFA sound also.
I always forget that from time to time and yet I literally own a Yamaha acoustic guitar. It’s always weird to me how much stuff Yamaha makes
@@hectichive889 Its already weird enough that they make music instruments but they even have a defence contract
@@lalankhan7910 I recently bough an MT07 and years before i bought a yamaha keyboard and a C45 classic guitar. I also forget and find it hard to believe they’re the same company.

Ive received my mt07 a week ago. Im glad I made this purchase. Still in break in period so no hard riding. Its perfect for me. Mostly I use it to ride in the city. For that, the bike lacks absolutely nothing. Great review.
What year/model did you buy?
@@perryplugge9233 2021 mt07
Break in period is a myth, the engine will just reflect how you ride it...dont be afraid to give it some throttle.
@@vengenSR Do you mind me asking what you paid out the door? I'm saving for one currently and would like to get a ballpark number of how much I will need.
@@brucebuffguy4982 I was quoted 12-13k out the door at a well known high-priced So Cal dealer. They weren't even in stock there either. There was one brand new XSR700 sitting on the floor.
Adam's reviews are truly the best available, pulls no punches. As for the cadence of his speech; unique, lucid, and refreshing.
But 1.5x is still better 😆
Yamaha finally got the dash large, centered and adjustable lighting. A bit long of a time to get this straight. It is not good that the blinkers are flapping around and falling off. Thanks for your honest reviews as always. It does look like fun!
Adam Waheed…the most reliable and informative professional out there! Love your work mate!
An MT-07 will definitely be a secondary bike for me one day. Ive tested one out on a Yamaha demo day and WOW. I started on an R3 and loved my first 6k miles on two wheels. Cheers, fantastic content as always.
Firs off great review.
I just bought this bike new 2 weeks ago and in that 2 weeks I've been able to ride it every day thanks to good weather and have put roughly 400 miles on it. My overall review so far is, TO ME, it's the perfect bike. Handling is great. Ride quality is great. Power delivery of engine is great. So far fuel economy is great. Last I looked my average mpg was around 52 mpg but I'm some what of a conservative rider but I do occasionally have wild streaks. Conservative meaning I try to ride as normal as I can when I ride to and from work to save as much money as I can weekly due to price of gas and the fact it's roughly a 60 mile round trip to and from work.
I don't know why Yamaha decided to change the color of the wheels from Orange to a Teal green which I will say look much better in person then in photos. My co-workers and friends who've looked at the bike, first thing the mention is how they love the color of the wheels. I actually had a couple co-workers ask if it had a V-Twin and I said nope it's an inline 2 cylinder because while running it truly does have a unique sound that mimics a V-Twin. 3 of my friends/co-workers also mentioned they are definitely going to purchase one next spring now that they've seen one in person.
Now, it doesn't have that super sport bike sound or the speed but it definitely has enough of both to put a smile on your face every time you ride it especially after adding a new exhaust which I plan to do with mine over the winter months. This is a bike that will take much, much longer to get tired of and wanting more for those who think in this manner.
I have 1 thing I don't like and 1 thing I hate.
I don't like the location of the key. I think it's location is ridiculous BUT it's not a deal breaker.
I hate the foot pegs. I don't know how to really explain this so bare with me on this. When at a stop and your feet are down, due to the location of the foot pegs they are pressing against the calf which is pretty irritating. Now I'm only 5'7" tall so not sure if this is why and/or if taller riders experience this or not. Since the pegs pivot towards the back of bike I just put my legs in front of the pegs and push the pegs back while waiting and it works great.
Overall even with my dislike and hate I still rate the bike a 10/10. You can't go wrong with this bike and with the aftermarket world, personalization can be endless.
His paused speech seems to be the effect of cracking his ribs with the breath-freezing cold. Really, this is very good for foreigners to follow their English. ;) lol
Try 1.5x speed 😆
@@mindspinn311 I don’t mind Adams slow nature since I find it oddly soothing but I tried your suggestion and wow 😂
Always appreciate Adam Waheed’s perspective. I have a 2020 MT 07 and I really enjoy it. It is a fun bike. It is also my son’s favorite bike. He is a fairly new rider, and whenever we ride together, he always asks to ride the MT 07.
Very nice. I am glad you are enjoying your fine MT-07.
Heed!! Dont tame your fro, man. That thing is glorious. You should let it shine in all its glory
Thanks man. I will keep it rolling then.
The headlight is starting to grow on me.
Looks better in person
Agreed

Maybe you should get it looked at. Sounds problematic.
34.7 mpg? You've been flogging that little bike hard! I usually get high forties on my MT-09, and on one occasion I even got close to 60 mpg.
I hear the mt07 should be putting mid to upper 50 US mpg's on normal riding!
Nice man. Yeah, I like to burn gas. Is a hobby for me.

17:35 oil filters are cheap. Change them the same time as you change the oil. Don't wait for 12k between filters...
Exactly what I said when I heard that.
If they made a $250 drive by wire throttle option with cruise control I'd be very grateful
Getting more and more convinced by the LED headlight
I just traded my 2019 KTM 390 Duke for this bike and the KTM has a better light. This ones OK, you can see where your going but the KTM is better.
@@drbigmix7752 thanks for that, I'm still to have a test ride
@@drbigmix7752 But KTM is a bad bike overall compared to Yamaha!
@@drbigmix7752 In my experience it’s not uncommon for a good halogen headlight to have better illumination than the average LED headlight.
@@GURUKHAN_OG well I traded didn’t I 😂 just saying the headlamp was noticeably brighter on the KTM. The Yamaha is probably better overall yes. The tiny headlamp is OK but not that great. I would dare say other bikes may outshine the Yama at night too. I do ride at night so I do miss the near daylight illumination of my old KTM headlight, along with the backlit switch gear. The Yama lcd screen is ok but the KTM was full colour TFT with Bluetooth and could disable the ABS. None of that is on the Yama but yes for sure the bike is better in other ways.
I think its refreshing to listen to him talk, becauseits so raw in experience.
Top bloke as always
thank you for the wheelie, i almost gave up all hope
I agree, i always enjoy your videos when I come across them. Kudos.
34.7? I ride my MT07 like a hooligan and get 55 mpg
Uphill both ways in California apparently…..
All these middleweight street bikes are such great bang-for-buck. Though in Europe it's bang-for-Euros.
thank you! i am about to buy a 22 model. I made a good decision :)
Was thinking about it for my second bike tbh; after I pay off my first bike seeing as it's alot of fun on two wheels.
Excellent review, thank you. Keep up the great work and yes, there will be an MT 07 in my future (downsizing from a BMW 1200
Best street rider in SoCal…bar none. Adam can ride any bike effortlessly with a high skill level🦾💯🏍
Really appreciate the technical viewpoint of Mr. Waheed.
Cheers
The MT-09 is a completely different motorcycle than the MT-07. Fun do-it-all sport bike (MT-07) versus super sport track weapon (MT-09). I was hoping the R7 would be something between the MT-07 and MT-09 but it’s very similar to the MT-07.
We need a MC Commute on the 2021 M-09.
Love V2’s and triples. I would go with the trident over this with its lovely triple and premium pedigree. If you want more go with the MT09. I own a 2018 Super Duke and a MV Agusta Dragster 800rr Pirelli edition. My bikes forever. Love your reviews and unbiased comparisons.
Adam is super knowledgeable and gets through the BS to the real meat of each bike.
That key is just asking to be stollen in the city sticking out so far front
Love my FZ, but the upgraded plastics on the newer years really make me want to upgrade.
Yall see weed could be legalized?
Waheed is going to be legalized?? He looks a tad funny but i didn’t think he was a foreigner. Good on him for taking his citizenship test. /s 🤣🤣🤣
Been looking up bikes all morning, and saw a review of the Mt 03, so I looked up the MT 07 and this video was the first to pop up! I recognized the neighborhood by Vista High, I grew up on Goodwin haha enjoyed the review!.. I’m definitely sold on getting this bike man!
Are the blue and orange stripes on the tank able to be removed or are they painted on?
i was behind a 2021 mt07 the other day and it looks awesome from the back as well.
Back is the same as the predecessor

Hello Adam!! Love your videos was very interested in your video of the R7!! Can you please explain a little further how the engine is underwhelming in terms of comparing the two
Definitely didn’t see that bright red apple in front of that traffic light early on, great driving!!
Yeah i was like, why did the camera just zoom in for no rea…ooooh.
If you watch his blinkers youll be even more annoyed. Or his speedo. Or the wheelie shenanigans i guess.
Yeah, hes a pretty awful “legal” rider….but fun reviews! (He cooks it up on tracks 100% legit)
Adam! The hair? I'm here for the hair!
The ignition is in a stupid place, works until you put a fly screen on it then it’s awkward to take keys out
My favorite MC reviewer!
The cadence of your speech is a bit hard but I bet people with English as their second language appreciate it. BUT, the review was packed full of info and you know how to ride my man.
So, what is the reason to switch gloves at 11:56 😆. Thx for the review!
As usual, watch with at least 1.25x speed to make Adam speak at a normal pace 🤣
Great thing about the MT-07 key is it’s not chipped. You’re free to make you’re own duplicates.
im digging the graphics popup with the specs
Hi Adam I'm a big fan of yours motorcycleist magazine channel and I'm soo happy with your review . Can you do a review of the 2021 Suzuki gsx r1000r please.
It's an overal good bike, especially for the price. I LOVE mine for just blasting around town.

"But Black Dynamite, I sell drugs to the community!"
Adam’s monologue is so precise and efficient - it’s a pleasure to listen to
67 hp? Officially it says 75 hp !
You are my favorite review person for bikes I like that you always give a non bias review...just one question if you where to buy a bike would you go mt07 or mt09..I'm coming off a gsxr 750..the mt09 looks so much faster...I'm wondering if the mt 07 .. would bore me after a few weeks ..thanks Adam you channel is the best I've ever seen ...lots of fans up in Canada...been watching you for year's...all the best to you...
Go MT09! I just bought a 2021 model year and its amazing! It will leave a 750 in the dust, I've done it lol
Cool thanks ...ya it's a bad ass bike..for a great price can't wait to smoke a Harley...
Don’t get an MT07. It’s an awesome beginner bike but if you’ve been riding for a couple seasons, you’d probably be bored. Especially when you’re getting up to freeway speed.
@@bobbytiger5279 I think you can smoke lots of Harleys on the mt07
@@M3NDiCANTBiAS thanks bro mt 09 all the way
Got one comin as my 2nd bike. blue and sliver can’t wait 😜
Mt 07 only city?? 😅😅
I just got a mt07 on December I recognize those streets man 76 and gopher canyon😎
I bought a new gen '21 mt09 last year after being so pleased with my '18 mt09 that made me fall in love with street bikes again. Why didn't yamaha put road 5's on the mt09??? OMG....I would never go 6k between oil changes! The Bridgestone's are junk! Motorcycle tires are too expensive to be changing every 3k. Wow, you only got 37mpg? I get better than that on the mt09 when i have it pinned! Literally doing several mile almost full pinned the whole time.....getting at least 35mpg. That jumps to over 40 with "spirited" riding, I never ride slow. I found a screaming deal on a '18 mt10 at the end of the summer. Already done yosh exhaust, de cat and flash so the big mt fulfills my real need for speed. I get 25-30mpg with the 10 when riding spirited. That's common by what I've read and just the price of admission on the cp4. Both fun bikes in their own ways. Keeping both....for now.
Nice work Adam- Never change bro
Wish the new mt09 had that screen honestly. The color display on it is just way too small.
You are a motivation to many. If you could be an auto journalist with your speaking skills, I can be a scientist with my IQ
not to say that he's wrong but i own a 21 mt07(same color in fact) and i haven't changed the brightness ever and i don't have an issue seeing at night( it could be just a personal preference thing)
can't help but think that Key is in a prime position for someone to very easily grab it..if you were being robbed as an example. I'd have thought different position woul have been better for security purposes
Man it's quite a shame how Yamaha replaced this very clear and easy to read LCD screen with a TFT dash in the Europe market. I think it's a bit unecessary. Instead they should have upped the suspension and brakes, maybe give it slipper clutch too since it's one of the only middleweight nakeds without a slipper clutch. I test rode this bike, and immediately fell in love with that CP2 engine and how the power delivered, but damn that suspension and brakes were underwhelming. In my country, this bike is marginally more expensive than the CB650R, and for what it offers, I think it is a bit overpriced.
Great review. Looks like a good town bike.
Thank you for your honest review, what you think about sv650?
14:00 wheelie tests are back!!! Finally!
Ur the best boss. Love the commentary!!!!
Is it the 1st time you talk about maintenance ????
That's a really good call
No man. I do it all the time.
Why don’t folk like rear sweep of the handlebars? They always say they don’t like it but never explain why.
Its a less agressive riding position

Adam taking elocution lessons from William Shatner?
I’m torn between a 2021 MT-07 (I had a 2015 FZ-07 and loved it) and the 2021 Honda NC750X as a commuter bike. The Honda is more practical with built in storage, and DCT makes commuting effortless, plus it has more weather protection. The Yamaha is more fun and has that amazing engine. 🤔
Get both.
Depends on the commute but for me, I think the NC750X DCT is probably the best commuter bike you can get. Not quite as playful but easier to hop on after a long day at work.
What did you end up buying?

Hey what gloves are you wearing in this video ? (The white ones)
Hw does it stack up against the GSX S750? Same price for me.
I had to check the play speed...
Does it pull like a train from a dead stop? How is it off the line? Can it make a quick get away from a stop sign?
It rips off the line. But it is very wheelie happy in the first three gears.
what do you mean by "underwhelming"? cause I'm planning on buying the R7.
It has less power than its predecessor which was a full-on supersport. It is just a matter of expectations.
Yes probably meaning the r7 style of sports bike would suit a faster engine. Still if youre ok with 74 bhp, the r7 its ok.
If you’re coming from an r3, it’ll be an okay upgrade but otherwise, it’ll be a little lackluster
I need a good dirt road bike, was thinking this bike with the right tires?
Random, but I'm curious if Adam would look good with a buzz cut. Also, is he Egyptian American?
are you not using the clutch when upshifting?????????
