It was more about the struggles of a black man trying to make something of himself in Hollywood at an age where most are considered “washed up”...Honestly, I never thought Rudy Ray Moore was that funny, but the fact he did it all independently - without any backing - he deserves that respect.
I watched Dolemite as a child, high school and college. I saw Eddie play Dolemite. I saw this movie five times since it came out Friday Morning at 12AM. I am an independent filmmaker. This is an inspiration film for all filmmakers.
