    1) Your siphon intake is a bit too close to the bottom, not allowing full volume to go through the piping. Move up about 1/2" to 3/4" or so.
    2) The hole in the top of the Durso should NOT be below the water level; It should NOT act as a siphon.
    3) Your Durso is too low; bring it up about 1" in order to keep it above the siphon line.
    4) If your Durso pulls a siphon, it will make noise for a while because it will pull air in from the hole you drilled, and the whole purpose of the Bean Animal is that it is noiseless. This is a problem for your set-up.
    5) Raise your emergency overflow to be about 1/2 to 3/4" above the top of the Durso, so that it stays dry unless needed.
    6) When you set your gate valves, leave the Durso one wide open, and close the siphon valve to the point where your level is about 1/2 way up the horizontal portion of your Durso piping.
    7) Plug that hole you made in your siphon fitting.
    8) Then test your system.
    Good Luck.

      6. Shorten your outlet ends so that they're no more than an inch below the water line in the sump. The reason your main siphon was getting air locked is because it couldn't push the air down through six inches of water.

      James the reason for me doing this it made my tank dead silent

    • @Subi_doo
      @Subi_doo Год назад

      You want the siphon Intake as low as possible that it won’t restrict flow. Personally I’d take it up another 1/4. 3/8 of an inch gap should be plenty to keep it silent.

    Every one should know that the main siphon flow plumbing should only go 1 or 2 inches into the water at the outlet so the air can be pushed out on start up. When you have it several inches into the water like in this example the water pressure is to great for the siphon affect to restart after a power outage or stop and start.

  • @alfaholic3

    I just use open stand pipes, totally silent and never have to worry about the siphon not restarting after a power failure. I have the siphon 2" below the 2nd overflow and it dosent pull any air at 500gph then the emergency drain is about half an inch above that. I also like that it skims the surface of the overflow box so u dont get any buildup.

    the pipe's are not pressurize so you do not need primer or too glue them with blue cement use clear if you have to. they are easy to clean if they aren't glued.

  • @AWardle18

    Are you gluing the pipes at the overflow connection?

  • @chaderickson1694

    I also have the eclipse and one drain is under siphon and other a free fall drain. The drains itself is quiet the only noise is from the “waterfall” going from the tank into the eclipse. I can avoid some of the sound if have water level pretty close to top of eclipse box. That means over flow drain needs to be up higher. Seems impractical since any fluctuation would spill water out of eclipse. Seems like if the eclipse had more surface area on the fins so water wouldn’t make a water flow effect.

    Whatsthe distance between the holes in the Glass that are needed. I understand that they are 60mm Diam but whats the distance between centres. Is it 200mm

      Niels Verhaar the eclipse overflow box came with a drilling template. I just used that so I do not know the distance between centers right off hand.

    Did you have problems with your gaskets leaking? The 1 1/5" gaskets and your 1" gaskets. All 5 of mine leaked.

    • @JustinENixon
      @JustinENixon  5 лет назад

      Nate V I had a couple leak. I had to get in there and really tighten the fittings. I don’t like to use a wrench on plastic fittings but sometimes an easy snug with a pair of Chanel Locks will do the trick. Try taking it all apart and drying the surface where the gasket sits. Good luck

      @@JustinENixon - Question guud sir, would reef safe silicone have worked on the gaskets to eliminate leaks?

    • @JustinENixon
      @JustinENixon  4 года назад

      CALLAHAN WELSH I don’t see why not. Consider the possibility of having to take it apart for maintenance, but I think a 100% silicone with no mildew resistance or added chemicals would be fine. You said it when you said “reef safe”.

    How did you hook up the three pieces that are just below the three bulkheads coming out of the bottom of the over flow box?

    • @JustinENixon
      @JustinENixon  7 лет назад

      Jayson Ledbetter I glued a stub, about 4-6 inches long, out of the bottom of the box. Then, I tightened the repair coupling (rubber ring and cap) onto the stub. All the piping is 1 inch

    This bean animal set up is awesome but I have a question about it. Once the water starts coming in from the over flow do the pipes automatically start siphoning the water or do you have to create vacuum first? If so how did you create vacuum?

    • @JustinENixon
      @JustinENixon  5 лет назад +1

      Nate V the water falling down the pipe will naturally begin to siphon. You will have to close your valve to prevent the siphon from pulling too hard and sucking air

      Justin E. Nixon I appreciate the fast response, and I'm in the process of my first reef tank build and just trying to go in the right direction. It's only a 75 gallon and 20 gallon sump. I ordered The eclipe L and going to drill it my self. 100 of protein skimmers with good and bad reviews on every single one lol. Amazing hobby but not so easy for a first timer. Hopefully it gets easier in the long run.

    Fittings in the the overflow box should not be glued. They can’t leak. They should be able to be taken out and cleaned periodically. Good job on the install. Plumbing look too notch and very organized.
