During hurricane Maria we were stuck without a working electrical grid in Puerto Rico for up to 2-3 months for most of the island and we didn’t had looting problems. People knew that if you tried some shit the island is not that big people talk and whoever you fucked over would find you and return the favor ten fold.
Unfortunately it seems a community based system is becoming much more effective than most law enforcement, which makes sense. I probably have a much higher standard in friends/neighbors than the law enforcement does officers.
Crazy to hear that ! Sorry to hear you had to deal with months of no power . It only took a few days in nyc for looting to occur , they gave us weapons without bullets haha
That's the beautiful thing about a small community. Everyone knows each other. I do wish there was a way for PR to better improve it's infrastructure. It seems like no matter how much money is allocated. It never seems to get spent on what it was supposed to be spent on. I'm not sure how it gets resolved. I just hope one day is does.

I learned more real information from this video than hours of listening to politicians pointing fingers, calling each other names and trying to create needless fear. Thank you. Your personal story is compelling. Also, thank you for your service thou son of a girl who needed asylum.
Needless fear? The US is being invaded by over 160 countries, hundreds of thousands if not millions we don’t even know who they are or where they came from.. Illegals are murdering, raping, robbing and beating US citizens along with stealing from stores which raises the prices or the stores shut down.. And you call that “needless fear”? lol
@@Taskandpurpose How many US citizens have to be murdered, raped, robbed and beaten? How much debt does this country going to have to endure by having open borders? Cappy and this channel should be included in journalism classes everywhere.
I don't recall any accurate new information at all. But there was approvingly quoted and repeated the NPR falsehood that Title 42 "expired" and we've gone back to Title 8. No, it didn't. Title 42 hasn't been changed since, I think, 2014 and is still right there in the US Code. You can look it up.
I watched this video after I saw your "rant" post on the reaction you got. I figured if it annoyed people outside your typical audience there was a good chance you must have done something right "Done something right" turned out to be a massive understatement. This is the best treatment of the current situation on our southern border that I have seen. Hands down. I have no idea how often you ought to actually undertake more projects like this because you obviously need to make a living, but however often (or rarely) you stick your neck out again and put forth this kind of effort, this will still stand as a simply fantastic video. So much so that I had to add a superthanks to my positive comment. Anyone who dislikes this video, or who is inspired to comment negatively on (or dislike) anything else you have ever done because they saw this video is simply a person who would rather have their preconcieved notions of the world reinforced than actually learn something. I've been watching your content semi-regulaly for 2 years and this video has vastly increased my respect for you. Keep up the good work Chris.
I've noticed changes with YT lately, and so have content creators (again). I strongly suspect YT have turned on the political-influence switch again in the lead-up to the election. And Chris is lead to believe there's something wrong with him, leading to self-censorship.
As the son of immigrants who came here legally, if you really want to stop the majority of illegal crossings then go after the businesses that hire them. If they can't find work then they have no reason to come but as long as long as we ignore that part of the problem then this will never end.
thats not the case right now. These illegals are getting prepaid debit cards and housing for months once they get into the country.. They have no incentive to work and work is definitely not why they came here
We live in a capitalist country that isn't going to happen. Especially when you consider they do the jobs most people do want to and that just the ones with approved work visas who although not legal citizens usually plan to. Regardless becoming a citizen takes a long ass time with low success rates, which is probably why so many choose to come in illegally.
If you want to fix it then reform the process to become legal. Removing people from work creates a large gap in our economy, as dehumanizing as it is to say they do the work that we just simply don’t want to do. I don’t know if you’ve researched the process but it’s in need of change for asylum seekers, citizenship seekers, etc etc etc, it’s a lot of hurry up and wait. And sadly nothing will likely be done because it would require our 2 party system to come to a middle ground to fix it.
Chris, you are FAR from being average good sir! Far far far from being remotely average... Taking 10 months to research the material for this video, about a situation thats still unfolding in right now in real time, is FAR BETTER than anything the legacy media would ever bother with... So both Mao and Aepo have two completely different takes on this, one calls Cappy a leftie and the other basically an ultra conservative, this only proves that both of your sides are just filled with nutjobs that are simply unwilling to have a productive conversation about anything meaningful. Bunch of muppets you are.
@@-aepo- Indeed. Any time you speak the truth, it will make leftist heads explode in anger. That's why they spend most of their time and effort silencing opposition and controlling the public forum. That's not the behavior of people who are brimming with confidence.
I'm a Native Texan who has had many friends and co-workers from 'south of the border'. Some came over illegally to work for a while and then would return to their home country with an increased quality of life thanks to the U.S dollar$. They told me how they swam here or hid on a train or in the back of a truck in a 'game' of cat an mouse with Border Patrol. However, things have become much more intense as many of those people are fleeing cartel violence and they have no intention of returning to where they came from. I've recently spoken to people who are here illegally from Russia, Iran, China, African countries and, of course, plenty from south of the Texas border. ALL of them told me that they plan to make the U.S. their new home. None of them said they wanted to go back to where they came from. Anyway, I just wanted to say that this video is well researched and more people should watch it for a fair view of what is actually happening to my state.
Do you think the world is devided in The West and The Rest? I think so! And this has its history and is a matter of cause and effect. Needless to say that we, the west, have not only to change policy but also "give up" a certain part of our wealth. The US or the EU, both big players were built on other countries wealth and we put measures in place that it stays that way, even "intervened" when certain developments there weren't going "our way". I don't say "bring them all in", because that would destroy our countries and can't be the solution. But, as rich as we are, we finally could help to stabilize and devellope those countries finally. No one is lightly turning his back on his family or his home. We have to get sincere or "we" have to build a fortress and become inmates ourselves.
I can relate to this especially since I'm from California and it's the same over here. Many come for a better life and some make money to eventually head back. I don't blame them, the U.S. dollar really helps those back home especially their families.
They aren't getting away from the cartels . The cartels are part of the border problem and still controls them. Bad situation made worse. Most of these illegals would not even qualify to come here!
"ALL of them told me that they plan to make the U.S. their new home. None of them said they wanted to go back to where they came from." Who cares what they want? The only relevant question as to what to do with them is what WE, the citizens of the USA, want.
You don't understand how valuable you are, being one of the few reporting on things in an unbiased, respectful manner. It's almost impossible today. Even awesome channels like Ryan Macbeth, as much as I love the guy, falls for his own biases a bit
The border is too valuable in an election to be resolved by the current duopoly. See recent border bills not voted on as it couldn't be used in the upcoming election as a divisive issue. I've listened to old radio shows were the issues were being argued over, in the 1940s. It's an opinion.
Bidens border bill was to fund more American workers to allow the quicker in processing of illegals! Why do you think no one would want to vote for that?
Im so tired of slanted coverage. I thought, when my friend sent me this, this video wouls be more slanted coverage. Happy to see how wrong i was. Impressively balanced, thoughtful, and thorough. Great work. New sub from me!
Don’t put soldiers in harms way without the ability to use lethal force. That’s not what they are trained for. That’s not what they should be used for.
I think it'd make most sense to have soldiers armed to the teeth and just be there in case someone decides to get froggy with police officers. Police officers should be making the arrests, not soldiers. Of course, the long term solution should be to not have any soldiers man the border, and only law enforcement.
I love this comment. You do realize the soldiers in this discussion are from states' National Guard. The vast majority of their missions are domestic, wherein, they are responding to weather related national disasters.
@@philm7758 Even if you have been in the military, my question is when do we ever put people in the military in a post where they are supposed to guard and entry but we do not give them the ability to use lethal force to enforce that role?
Thank you for this video! As an European looking at the issues in US from afar, I finally understood this problem. I like that you presented every side with empathy - authorities, americans, mexicans, migrants, pro/anti imigration groups. The majority of the news articles vilifies someone.

Cappy and the T&P staff should pat themselves on the back. Their approach to journalism with nuance and facts should be something other news outlets should strive to achieve; yet they don’t. This is quality journalism. The team deserves every journalism award there is; yet they won’t because T&P is youtube-based, and the old guard holds the power over those awards. If any journalism school is worth their weight in tuition costs, they SHOULD use T&P as part of their curriculum to show what quality journalism actually is.

The Senate passed a bill crafted by both the Democrats and Republicans. Trump killed it by ordering his tame House GOP to not even vote on it because "open borders" are his central campaign plank. Pro-Trumpers will yell and scream about how nothig is being done all the while their guy is preventing anything from being done. Indeed, earlier today both Sen. McConnell and Sen. The current situation in the US sounds an awfully lot like what happened at the Hungarian border not long ago. Almost the entire EU condemned Hungary for wanting to stop the illegal immigrants. So since they wanted them so badly, we also put them on buses and sent them on their way like Texas. Make no mistake, it isn't the skilled labour force that is banging at the fence of your borders.
Hungary learned from the USA experience; 41 million lawless and violent ‘BLM people’ has been a national disaster for 100’s of years already with no end in sight.
I live in Arizona. We've been dealing with this my entire life. Immigration really picked up in the early 80's and hasn't let up much if at all with the exception of a few years here and there. It's tough. The vast majority are desperate people with sympathetic situations coming here with good intentions but they're mixed in with a few dirtbags of epic proportions. You want to help out but on the other hand having 30 million people in 30 years come into or pass through your state with a population 1/3 that size will naturally create a fair amount of stress & disruption to the locals. The numbers are staggering. It puts a real strain on government and stresses their ability to provide the services they are legally required to. All of these people need time in front of a judge and case workers. Even if we instituted a national program to train and recruit judges there still wouldn't be enough to cope with the work load in a timely and judicious way. It's just too many people and not enough legal experts.
If Russia or China or heck even Iran wanted to sneak people though, then they would use the southern border. What happens when the low skill jobs are used up? Who does that hurt?
@@communism-is-tits This argument ignores the fact Russia and China wouldn't use terrorist methods on the U.S. They have nukes. Iran, sure, but you can't fart in Iran without the CIA smelling.
I've been here for 42 years now; our schools are money pits, with a large contribution being the large number of ESL teachers needed to cope with the huge numbers of non-English speakers. Then there's the destruction of good entry-level jobs in cities like Tucson; the vast majority of construction laborer jobs are taken by illegals there. Neighbors on every side hired illegals to build walls and do pretty much every odd job on their homes. This, of course, is a big part of the problem, but in some cases neighbors have no idea. Next-door neighbor hired a US contractor, who hired a bunch of Guatemalan illegals to actually build the block wall. Corrupt contractor made out like a bandit, because no workers comp, no SS, no extra expenses associated with US workers. I spoke with the Guatemalans, who said they come across the border every year, work for 6 months, then go back with their money to Guatemala. My son would LOVE to have had their job, building a wall, but no chance - because he's a US citizen, the contractor would have to pay all the other expenses.

The sensitivity and intensional inclusivity you demonstrate here is exceptional and is certainly the tact America needs to close the wide divide in its political life. The way you share from your own family history and the perspective you have gained in your life experience as a soldier serving at home and abroad further bring excellent relatable examples to these complex issues. Thank you for raising the bar and better informing us all so that we can more intelligently discuss and understand and even vote as better informed, educated and nuanced citizens. Keep up the GREAT WORK!!
Actually Chris seemed to try so hard to be in the middle he missed the his nose because of his face. Illegal immigration is mostly driven by US domestic politics and not the terrible situation in their home country. There will always be a number of people trying to gain illegal entry into the US, for drug sales if nothing else. Though the mass illegal waves we see periodically are always triggered by chamber of commerce desire to keep wages low and is signaled through US politicians to the southern hemisphere. We have watched this dance for decades, well at least us older American's have. We have just never witnessed anything like the invasion under the current administration.

Cartel members cross illegally because they’re criminals, Asylum Seekers cross illegally because we intentionally, maliciously don’t have the infrastructure to get them citizenship at legal points of entry. The way it’s supposed to work is that an asylum seeker self-reports to a courthouse where they are then granted asylum. In practice, ICE tends to intercept them before they can do that, and we don’t tell anyone that it’s what they’re supposed to do.
Both political parties are guilty for not securing / defending our southern border. I have no faith in our present government that refuse to secure our borders.
Lol. Democrats want to let in 1.3 asylum seekers legally and then let all the others in illegally. How does that secure the border? Get off the pipe. Nothing has been done to fix the problem and democrats couldn't care less.

@@Taskandpurpose I will raise one issue that you stated which was incorrect, but the media generally reported it the same way. The Supreme Court did not rule that Texas must give them Federal Agents access to the Park, it simply vacated (canceled) the 5th Court of Appeals order that Federal Agents could not cut the barb wire while the case was pending. The Court ruled that the appellate court should not have enjoined DHS while the case was pending, which allowed DHS to cut the wire. It did not require the state to give DHS access to the park, which is state land. Although federal agents are generally allowed access across the country, they are not generally permitted to “occupy” state or private property for their use without compensation. In the end, Texas will likely lose the case as it relates to immigration but the case certainly raises unique issues as to state rights when the Federal government fails to perform mandatory duties.

Labs in China don't have a reason to make the ingredients, nor do the cartels have a reason to smuggle. Simple supply and demand economics. New arrivals from India and China have surpassed Mexico. And theres tons of ppl coming in from Central America, Haiti, Venezuela, Cuba. Mexico gets all the attention because of the coyotes and drug trade.
Same difference really. Indian illegals majority arrive through the meso-american and mexican smuggling routes. As for the Chinese, remember that time Chinese migrants were a problem, refused to work and lazed about in the streets while dealing drugs and being a nuisance? No, me neither, nor does anyone else. 😆
Mexico gets all the attention because it was almost exclusively Mexico from the 80’s to the 2010’s. And it’s all coming via Mexico, meaning Mexico’s government is just shunting the illegals through their country to the US.

Here are some of the reasons I think they don't actually want this to end. 1. Cheap labor. Covered in your video. We cut off China so our access to slave labor greatly diminished. 2. Population stagnation. Our younger generations are having fewer to no children. This is unsustainable to continue growing productivity in the US. 3. Our income gap is only going up. Most of the jobs these immigrants will take are the day to day grinds that keep our country running. They pay shit, the work is hard and only those at the top can profit. 4. Capitalism is becoming less and less advantageous for the average American. Being controlled by big business is no better than being controlled by big government. Currently the two are hand in hand. 5. Automation will be the answer in the future (for replacing cheap slave labor), but it is still in its infancy. Soon our ability to work will have almost no value and we will lose a significant amount of power. We are destined to fail as a country if we continue down this path. Neither Dems or Repubs want to truly fix it because they are all benefitting from it. The money and power that we allow a certain few to hold is becoming too great and so is our complacency.
@@AL-lh2ht 1. Go look at the amount of trade we had with China and compare it to the amount of trade we do with other countries (outside of border countries). It's not comparable. Yeah, or how no one seems to propose a revamp and increase in the management of asylum seekers cases. It's all about having a wall, but what if we improve the doors attached to those walls. Or updating current refugees/asylum seeker laws to serve 2020's needs instead of the 1940's ones we currently use. I had a friend complain that refugees didn't want to work, I had to explain him that refugees are not allowed to seek employment and if they do, they can be deported for failing to follow refugee status rules. A rule that made sense in 1940's (when state slavery was relevant after ww2 germany), but makes no sense in 2020.

Any solution we work on should be done hand-in-hand with the Mexican Government. 3) Any bill to address these issues should be created with bi-partisan support (much like Will Hurd's well thought out USA Act). 4) We need to streamline the immigration/asylum process. 5) The cartel problem is not going to be solved militarily, but politically and economically. If the Mexico and U.S. do decide on military engagement with the cartels, I would highly suggest they read "Tequilla Junction" by John H. Poole as the possible approach. John Poole is an American military author and Marine combat veteran of Vietnam, specializing in small unit and individual tactics and his books are recommended reading by the Military Officer Association of America. I would also recommend that people read "Nacronomics: How to run a drug cartel" which was written by an economist and shows additional well thought out approaches we can use to help combat the cartel problem.
If you want to get rid of drug cartels, you guys should look to what Rodrigo Duterte did in Philippines they had a huge drug and crime problem until he got elected. He went full Duterte Harry on the criminals and drug dealers. Don't know why Western countries have qualms about 'human rights' and all that mumbo jumbo. In most of East Asia, you are warned before landing that smuggling drugs results in capital punishment.
At 18:35, you talked about certain skillsets for chip making had to come from immigrants, as those skills are not available in our native population. OK, cool, I can believe that. However, the immigrants filling these positions are making over 150K/yr and immigrate LEGALLY. So there isn't any reason for the CHIPS act to have anything to do with ILLEGAL immigration. I do not see highly skilled and educated people crossing the Rio Grande.
There are plenty of native born Americans with the skills to make chips, it is just that all of the companies that make them are bought in on the WEF's program so they don't want native employees.

Thank you for walking such a fine line on this presentation. The border both has real issues, but is also political issue used to keep people ignorant of the more important issues. Such a difficult topic and you did a great job with it.
This is excellently done! It's really refreshing to see someone tackle something so complex like a border friction issue with such a broad perspective, touching on quite a lot of difficult and sensitive points. Hats off to you, mate. This stuff is tough, and I particularly like your sympathetic insight into the serious threat to life these people have, and an understanding that problems in other countries always affect everyone else. there is no isolationist solution to this. If you want to trade, and thus get smarts for things, as well as the wealth that comes with it for your own people, you can't ignore the world. The more people who care for others, the less these problems will affect us.
One suspects Russian troll factories not only contribute to encouraging more people to try to enter the US and EU to destabilize those countries. Then, the trolls work up disagreements within those countries to foment division.
Emergency rooms are regularly crammed full of people waiting on their turn to see a doctor. We don’t need more people! Our resources are already being terribly strained.
In the 70s I was up near the Fulda Gap between East and West Germany. I watched refugees cross barbed wire, tank ditches and mine fields while they were being shot at from East German guard towers. I don't know how many people were deterred from trying, but I know they attempted every day. Desperate people will face just about anything for survival and a better life!
It's because everyone is extremely compassionate as long as they don't have to be negatively impacted. Worse still, they're too stupid to understand that they are being negatively impacted. So, until an illegal directly attacks them or their loved ones, they will remain ignorant.

You did the right thing, but you should have done more idk how. I dont know how close you live to the border or if migrants live in your area, but you should help them by giving them money, food, water, and clothes. It would be the right thing to do
Precisely. The Fed chose to abdicate responsibility. It has no right to complain when others start acting in its place to secure themselves against invaders.
Until we solve our own problems of homelessness and the majority of Americans living paycheck to paycheck we have no business trying to help migrants. A country should prioritize it's own citizens first.
Because it’s all a show. The Guardsmen being “overrun” was shot from an angle that did not show the Border Patrol behind the troops who easily stopped the “invasion.” This is not the first time Governor Abbot has wasted Texan tax dollars on performative B.S.. He tried choking off trade with Mexico with bogus inspections a couple years back and got schooled by neighboring Mexican governors. Yes , the border is an issue but there are a lot of crocodile tears being shed while actually avoiding real solutions.
I like watching your videos and your non-bias take. However a crucial part you left out is the border bill that the House didn't take up of which Senate Reps and Dems collaborated on together. It was also endorsed by the National boarder Control Council. I'm sure that 9 billion in grant money would have helped.
Great, then America can send the Mexican government 20 billion dollars to secure the USA's borders. This will save both the USA and Texas billions, because it will be much cheaper for the Mexican government to do this vs. them doing it. The EU currently does this with Algeria and other countries successfully blocking the migrants before they get to the EU. (There were private Algerian security companies handling some of these migrants that messed up.)
Actually it was like that for decades. The south border of Mexico was the lock against central and south america migration. However this stopped around 2017-2018
Mexico police is very corrupt, same as many levels of government. Without some effective oversight that minimizes the bribes to these PMCs that supposedly will secure the border, this will only serve to line the pockets of the politicians involved, mostly from Mexico.

Well I hope they all get deported as fast as possible.
None of them said they wanted to go back to where they came from."

Neighbors on every side hired illegals to build walls and do pretty much every odd job on their homes. This, of course, is a big part of the problem, but in some cases neighbors have no idea. In practice, ICE tends to intercept them before they can do that, and we don’t tell anyone that it’s what they’re supposed to do.

You don’t know that. Here what I knew; China is planting sleeping Agents or as known in Japanese words NINJA in our Southern states right now. Or as we know Trojan Horse or Trojan Dragon. Why wouldn't they come to the US? The US has been working its wonderful charms destroying democracies south of the border for a hundred years.
Mexico gets all the attention because it was almost exclusively Mexico from the 80’s to the 2010’s. And it’s all coming via Mexico, meaning Mexico’s government is just shunting the illegals through their country to the US.

Amnesty international needs to be fully reformed they have over reached all their intended use just like the UN
Agreed
Capitalism is working as designed buddy
The alternative is letting china win
@@AL-lh2ht 1. Go look at the amount of trade we had with China and compare it to the amount of trade we do with other countries (outside of border countries). It's not comparable. Do a google search if you want. Its not too hard.

4. Its a youtube comment. I didn't think I would need to go into specifics about the different types of capitalism. It was pretty straightforward that I was speaking about the US.
5. As I said in my comment, automation is still in its infancy. It has just barely begun.
Automation will only make inequality and disillusionment worse if its profits all keep going to its relatively few owners.

A rule that made sense in 1940's (when state slavery was relevant after ww2 germany), but makes no sense in 2020.

Well done Cappy. Very well thought out. I've lived in San Antonio my whole life and have a few additional perspectives. 1) This is a physical security problem for the U.S. and should be treated as such. 2) Mexico is the most important trading ally we have and our neighbor.
