    The shoulder plane is such a big key to a golf swing ! it is not explained enough. Get it right and it will naturally solve so many swing issues.

    It is a short tip, but absolutely a game changer. For those days when I am playing again like it was my first day, I reset. Feeling how my right shoulder moves down, is all I think about. And it works!! I strongly suggest give it a try at least to everybody. One of the best tips ever,

    Excellent video Russell on the right shoulder move! This is what I am trying to incorporate into my downswing. I like your comment "when the arms come down, so should the right shoulder." Something I'm going to try to remember in addition to keeping my right elbow into my right side.

    Well presented and to the point Russell. Hip rotation combined with turning the right shoulder down and through impact affected my swing and my tempo was nonexistent. I've been working with variations of a reduced backswing to no more than halfway and it's helping me to rotate using hips, arms and shoulders. Better ball striking, extension and follow-through are taking shape and I plan to continue this swing practice until it becomes ingrained. Another 4-6 sessions of maybe 100-120 balls, then move up to 3/4 and full swing thereafter. Cheers

    This is great. Currently struggling with some intercostal muscle pain, but as soon as that clears up I'm re-watching this and hitting the range.

    This was a big unlock for me to understand after learning about the stack and tilt method. I don’t use or profess it but it helped to comprehend the trail shoulder’s movement. I was just focusing on this at the range yesterday!

      Left shoulder down on the backswing is commonly taught, but right shoulder down is arguably more important for good ball striking.

    Works for me! Thinking the right shoulder, as opposed to left shoulder up and back or chest facing the target, is a much better feel. Hitting the chin with the right shoulder before releasing the head is also something I’ve been working on.

    This was great for me, could not figure out why I was pulling my short irons shot, dropping the shoulder this morning cured this and I was able to shout 77 this morning, so great advice thank you 🙏 👍

    Another exceptional lesson and sooo important. I had the same right-shoulder issue, but the way I fixed it was waiting for my right elbow to drop into my hip before turning through...it basically starts a chain reaction where I can't help but come through with the shoulder. Thanks, Russell!

    I have been working on strike but concentrating more on the left shoulder moving around and away from under my chin. As well as the spilt hand drill. Then trying to marry my upper body to my lower body movement of clearing the hips and moving up (straightening the lead leg). Rotation and rushing my down swing/vertical shaft are my big weaknesses. I am starting to understand how still/quiet my upper body has to be on the downswing and how the lower body must be more active. I am much more tilted and engaged with the strike. I am 49. Cheers.

    This was for me👍I manage to hit my irons pretty well these days but have problems ”pull topping” my spoon wich I for obvious reasons use from the tee. My layman diagnosis for this is that the more forward in the stance I have the ball at adress the harder it is for my ”old man body” to rotate through keeping the right shoulder down... Would be nice to have u adress the problem with swinging irons well and beeing crap at hitting woods. Both from down the line and face on. If succesfull I hit my spoon 250 yards so I know I have it in me, just not as consistent as I need it to be and its costing me 10+ strokes every round. Cheers from Sweden 🇸🇪🙏

    Trail shoulder down may cause a lot of golfers to hit it fat. There is more involved. You need to also shift your weight to the lead side.

  • @biskygiver
    @biskygiver 3 года назад

    A lot of golfers struggle with the trailing shoulder because a pivoting shoulder helps to square the club face thus for them it is counterintuitive to drop the shoulder.

    As the great Sam Snead said, you aim the left shoulder at the front of the ball on your backswing and aim your right shoulder at the back of the ball in the downswing

    • @TeddyCavachon
      @TeddyCavachon 3 года назад +1

      If you watch Snead swing videos you will see he used a different takeaway than used today. Snead, Hogan and others in the 40’s and 50s made a lateral shift of the hips straight back as their starting move. I swing very much like he did. That laterally sway back action shifts support to the back foot making it the back leg work like a piston in a engine - as the back leg straightens it forces the right hip away from the ball and rotates the hips 45° closed. The shoulders do not start moving past the hips until the hips get “stuck” at 45° closed due to torque built up in the back leg and buttock.
      The golf swing taught today is modeled on Nicklaus who moved shoulders and hands together at the start around stationary hips. Nicklaus turned his shoulders about 45° before his hips moved. Shoulders pulled hips instead of hips and shoulders moving together the first 45°.
      The difference between them is that the Snead style swing stores the force generated in the backswing first in the back leg, then the back which puts much less strain on the back and is much easier for a person of average athletic ability to coordinate and execute consistently.
      From the top of the backswing it appears the elbow is dropped down but it is actually brought back to the side with side bend, twisting backwards at the waist ).
      Hogan, because of his 1948 car crash couldn’t raise is trail arm like Snead did and exaggerated the coiling action in the back leg by turning in the right foot which causes the tension in the leg to increase. Hogan didn’t have much separation of elbow from side at the top but his starting move down was the same as Snead’s, the side-bend action ).
      In terms of cause and effect if comparing a golfer who keeps spine straight and rotates shoulders around it vs. the same golf who side bends ) to connect back elbow with hip then fires hips you will see that the side bend action shallows out the club head path behind the ball as the club head swings down and if the golfer keeps the head down and looking back through impact will also keep the club head tracking down the ball flight target line.

      @@TeddyCavachon I only started playing and watching golf from the height of the Nicklaus era circa 1970 onwards. Since I read Hogan's Five Lessons last year I've become more interested in him and the other greats of his era, plus Palmer who bridged the two eras, coming to the fore in the late 50s until the early 70s

    Nice video , I am still not sure if I should keep my head more in center on the down swing as , as I have trouble topping the ball if my body sway more to left side on the down swing.

    Russell, I definitely taken a lot from these recent videos as I'm trying to "be brave" and work to fix my over the top move. What I'm struggling with now is a level of inconsistent ball striking as I try to take my new swing to the course. I start the first couple of holes/shots are spot on. Then I lose it for a couple holes. Any thoughts on how I can maintain the new swing or re-find it when it goes while playing?
