Not only is this the best channel for solo rpg play, but probably better than most group rpg channels. Keep up the good work.
Funny enough as good as Critical Role can be I find this to be far more entertaining.
I think it's because of the editing. There is always forward progress, very little downtime.
@@rontalkstabletop THere's more. Hardly all the members of the groups create the same thematic choices. Playing alone, the GM have much more power to create the tensions, the reactions and the underline tone of the narrative.
And there's something that besides a good actor, Trevor is also good at creating dramatic situations and grand narratives.
@@rontalkstabletop As solo players, we always know what tone we want in a scene. Something that is always a difficulty in groups.
You see, not an impossibility, but a difficulty.
I believe that maintaining the emotional tone of any adventure is something much more possible on Solo plays, at least in most groups.

Trevor could play tic-tac-toe against himself and make it entertaining!
Re-watching this a couple of years later -- in my opinion it's *this* specific episode where the Ironsworn system really begins to work for Trevor. The narrative and gameplay flow really well and this momentum (pardon the pun) is carried through the rest of the season.
You know Trevor is such a good role-player when he gets so into character than he himself gets surprised by what comes out of his improvisation.

When you rolled for the warrior's name, at first I heard 'Boromir.' And my reaction was "Oh of *course* it was him. DAMMIT BOROMIR!"

Wow! Just wow! This episode was a testament to Shawn Tomkin's excellent system and your inexhaustible inspiration! A "simple" miss on Reach Your Destination led to a great story. Can't wait for next week!

Can't wait! I just finished binging Simon's adventure and Ironsworn is shaping up to be real exciting!
Now, this is closer to my own ironsworn experience xD I think I've only ever had two strong hits
I’m sad I didn’t get to experience this as it came out but I’m catching up now! Love the different tone from S1. Simon’s adventure felt like a desperate dash from one trouble to another. This feels like a slower more careful march to a big battle. The tension is quite palpable and I love it!
The fact that Trevor uses two yellow dice and a black die just like me makes me extremely happy for some reason.
This is great stuff, awesome series! Loving the randomly generated "The Room" reference. "OH HIGHMARK!"

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m enjoying this season even more than the first. This has made me pick up Ironsworn again and start playing. You make it seem just so much fun and I really like how you are making the Ironlands your own which is really in the spirit of the whole game.
It’s amazing how the dice rolls impact the story so perfectly. This is a testament to the game, but also some very cool story crafting by the GM/player. I am enraptured in this tale!
Every time I watch an episode, it makes me want to pick up my copies of ironsworn & delve!

Another great episode. The plot gets better and the character development is fantastic. I really love how the story has been developing through improvisation and dice rolls. I think Ormr should get a character sheet or some basic stats for the time that he gets to roll some dice.
Does ironsworn even stat out companions? I didnt think it did unless its in Delve.
If you spend XP to gain a companion, they have "stats" of a sort.
Hi @@MeMyselfandDieRPG, I'm curious on why Ormr be a companion and not a full fledge character. I remember from the previous season that each member of Simon's party had their own character sheet, which made combat and interaction a lot of fun. As a Companion, wouldn't Ormr be quite limited in his interaction with the story? Really eager to see next episode, thanks for all the hard work you're doing.
First thing I thought of when Highmark was burnt to a cinder was "the Dragon's been here", then maybe it could've been the work of some kind of dragon cult. Maybe the Husk guy (can't remember his name) is collecting prisoners to help the Dragon find Jorunn.
Congrats Joshua! I'm actually glad he didn't take my suggestion as it contained his name... Granted I don't think anyone caught on.
Another fantastic episode, I love how excited you get about failures and twists in the story! This is exactly what Ironsworn is great at and you show it off so well.

Gotta love how Mr. Devall is able to take multiple failed rolls and turn it into something epic and interesting. Good stuff, definitely dig this story: it's not super dark and foreboding as the rules seem to make the Ironlands out to be, but that's also probably more to do with Mr. Devall's role playing than anything. I've been a week behind, so I'll go ahead and jump into the next episode to see what happens to the civilians of Highmark.
As always, as excellent show a s very engaging. You always end at just the point where I can’t wait to discover what happens next. A week is so long to wait...

I find myself while watching this season (not unlike the last) smiling, sometimes wide-eyed, on occasion jaw dropped in anticipation and celebrating strong hits and wincing at misses...

By gods, this is so good. I think this is the first time an actual-play story got me in the feels; and all just from a simple miss from a reach your destination roll. There's just something that hits different from a solo RPG than a group one. All the other group roleplays I've seen are usually more funny than compelling or suspenseful for some reason. I wonder why that is?
People are afraid to be deep and truthful so they hide behind jokes.

I noticed you are using a supplement... I also found out the creator of the game keeps everything free, but allows people to pay for the costs of printing in case you want him to do it for you... I did and that solidifies my entrance into the game for years to come from now on...

Never really believed in solo rpgs, but then watched this thanks to @dave thauvamore, and what a game! And great work by Trevor Devall making his own story come to life presented so well! I've been playing my first part of my own ironsworn story today and it's been such a good feeling to play an immersive story rpg in these lockdown pandemic times. (Feeling a bit crazy playing an rpg in my head by myself, but hey, when you can't play with your friends it's ok to be a little crazy). Thumbs up to the show and the game itself, it really evokes creates stories that are worth taking part in.
Literally a better story than the Netflix's Witcher. Mind = Blown.
Promised myself I would go slower with this season to make it last longer but I’ve already watched two tonight, and debating watching a third as the story is so good! Thank you for showcasing Ironsworn. I now have a much better understanding of the system. I need to finish my Savage Worlds Campaign first though! 😁🤣

Even considering that I don't know much about Savage Worlds and IronSworn, both campaigns are so attractive that I'be been watching as they were the best of the series on streams. In fact, they really are.
