    Love what he says about people reacting (whether good or bad) means you're having an impact. And that since some people won't like you no matter what, being ok with yourself is what is important. :-) Thanks, Laird. :-)

    Inspiring, honest advice. I'm 56 and just learning to surf, but can so relate to all the life experiences, thank you.

    Much respect needed that said about haters hating means your probably doing something right; Sunny Garcia said the same thing aloha!

    Nice to hear a white person talk candidly and confidently about experiencing prejudice from non-white people because of their skin colour. We are not allowed to say it, but non-white people can be racist too. Mistrust of the "other" and in-group preference are hardwired in to all humans, regardless of their ethnicity.

      so much for the aloha spirit etc,doesnt seem to extend to people of different skin colour to Hawaiian indigenous,yet they would like to be recieved with such spirit when they travel ?

      Lurgs Well before he became popular he was quite an asshole and has recently sold out to oprah. Some of his creations have been total duds and I have seen sea animals hurt by his hydrofoil.
      His wife and kids brought him down a notch but he is still sort of an asshole and self promotes himself a lot...
      I worship no man.
      Plus, he is obviously on steroids of hgh, to get over his injuries. He is definitely not full natty brah.

    Always been a huge fan. He's always been Laird. If Gabby Reese loves him, and he's on a big wave He's got all he needs. Seems simple. Why is it so hard for some us? Lol life is killing me.

    I want to tell you that I use to surf. I can relate with Laird on such a smaller level. 15 foot waves gave me the rush of a life time. I transitioned from long boards to short boards. I can still remember certain waves. Good ones and bad ones! One wave, my friend Curt H. (RIP) was dropping down a 10 footer and turned right in front of me, spraying me. You hear what Im saying, I didn't make it out. I was held down so long, I could only tink of one ting. arh. Air! I am not in the greatest shape, however, you encourage me to go for it. Thanks.

    What people do not realise is that hate can be constructive, needful, necessary and .... get this! ... even life saving.
    If it weren't for our conditioned hatred of say, poisonous snakes and such, we'd have been dead awhile ago.
    And, it is also OK to hate way, abusive people and situations, as well.
    It pays to think about all manner of stuff outside of all of the carefully prescribed boxes, doesn't it?

    I love Lairds passion and his attempts to seem intelligent and making sense of things.. but his explanation of why it's 'dark' at 40ft under was simply.. incorrect..! So Laird.. just stick to being an elite surfing gladiator who has no peer.. and like Johnny Farnham.. Don't talk.. Just sing matey..! xox

    Wow I do think this guy is amazing I view him somewhat different than everyone else. I just don't think it's very respectful to your wife and kids to risk your life every day of your life. I mean are you ever going to be happy without surfing 100 foot waves? Are you going to be attempting 100 foot waves when you're 80 years old? I have a feeling one thing she never has to worry about saying and that is.... oh my God I can't believe he's dead.
    I wonder if he would be okay with his wife racing motorcycles a hundred miles an hour sitting backwards on a motorcycle or anything that would be risking her life everyday. I guess what I'm saying is it seems Laird thinks about Laird and only about Laird...... but I do find his accomplishments amazing but I really don't see the logic in surfing a 100 foot wave when a coral reef is 6 ft below the surface..... perhaps when he is too old to Surf any longer he can simply sit in his chair with a pistol and play Russian Roulette but from watching Laird I don't think regular Russian Roulette would be a big enough of a challenge for him. I think he would have to put a bullet in 5 out of the 6 chambers....

    I'm surprised to hear him hint about being discriminated from his childhood. Especially since the white population is 11.5% of 8 Billion people where 88.5% have been discriminated against for centuries. & unfortunately still are. 😪
    So sorry to hear that!!!

      Guiliano_1 He's as far from an "average Joe" as it gets. Very few people in the history of the planet have experienced the things he's experienced. To do what he's done for decades now takes a level of skill and courage that's hard to comprehend.

    • @energy9874
      @energy9874 4 года назад

      @@IvanLendl87 level of rich dad and not having to get a real job, you must mean. In the surfing community he was just a longboarder that got famous in the Oxbow advs. Then he rode that wave at Teahuppo all sponsored up to his teeth with expensive camera crews... What else? Average surfers could achive this if they have the money

    • @energy9874
      @energy9874 4 года назад

      @@makafuniruni neither Laird or you were there. Burle dropped the wave to it's bottom and got swalloed by the white water. In big wave surfing that's considered a completion. How do they get 8's at Big wave tour just by pulling in then
