Although I am agnostic theist and specifically an agnostic Christian I more than appreciate the work and scholarship of Dr. Ehrman.

Another erudite and enjoyable lecture from Bart. He always speaks with humanity and humility as well as with great authority. Anyone new to him should look to the right ~> and watch more. Thank you for the upload. It's much appreciated.

    Yeah, that's my favorite one.

I haven't heard anyone yet try to explain why this creationists God had to come as a birthed baby. Why the time spent in having to go through development and why does it appear that he, unlike many 2 year olds today did not seem to develop any faster than other children.

21:05 If the Jehovah's Witnesses can modify the text, so could Marcion of Sinope. And for that matter, so could the scribes who added Mark 16:9-20 and the story of the Adulterous Woman.

I find it curious that Paul says to his veteran student Tim,consider, remember, seed of David and earlier 1Tim 2;4
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;, I think Paul is mentioning these points because the denial of genuine humanity was already blurring the lines,

37:08 If these (IMO significant doctrinal) additions were known in 2004, why weren't they mentioned in Dr. Ehrman's 2007 "Misquoting Jesus" debates?

Christ and Messiah are two different things. Greek King, Jewish King. Neither words are used properly by Christians (King worshipers ? That would be a Roman idea)

    • @simongiles9749
      @simongiles9749 4 года назад

A Greek king would be "basileus".
"Christ" is a translation of "Messiach", meaning "anointed one", stemming from the Israelite tradition of anointing their kings with holy oil (still done to this day among the monarchy).

Paul twice uses 'seed of David' rom1;2
(Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;2Tim 2;7
Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: I don't see how Marcion could have denied the genuine humanity based on Paul

Bart, I think it was a big mistake that Irenaeus said there needed to be four gospels. I have never liked him. He is a distrustful character, imo. Shall we stab each other some more over inconvenient disagreeing scripture? Doesn't it occur that when the early christian fathers were composing the texts, they realized how they argued unrequitedly, and so thought this squabbling would be a good way to divide people to more easily control them. Seems outlandish, but we have a saying for that, "divide and conquer".

This whole thing was just abject speculation. The most amusing and contemptible one being "Luke made additions to his own Gospel" LOL! The theme of this touted "historical scholarship" is merely at its crude base an activity of scanning the Sacred Texts, and if absolutely anything can be construed as being "a different style", the secular rebel vainly attempts to impose a scandal of some kind. Desperate infidel onlookers of course accept these musings as an authotative fact, and with grotesque relief are emboldened in their sins.

You would think after years of reading the same lecture over and over that he wrote himself, Bart would be able to recite it without reading it. It is apparent that "ad lib" lectures are beyond his ken. FFS I taught community college classes better than this alleged professor.

I especially love the blog you publish whose proceeds go to charity where you write thousands of words a week on Early Christianity and the bible.
