- There’s a lot that’s been said about Megumi Fushiguro already. He’s been wasted, he’s been fumbled, he’s not a good deuteragonist, everything. To an extent, I do have some issues with his writing. But is it really as bad as we all think? I don’t think so.

Sukuna is a gold digger, married him so he can immediately divorce him and take his wealth. But still lets him stay in the house because he never went to school to learn any skills and she needs him navigating the social circles of the elites.

By saying that Megumi should just "get up and lock in" people are invalidating everything that Sukuna has done to assure that it wouldn't happen. You all are underestimating the villain, like always.
Sukuna said that Megumi had the potential to become a cage for him exactly like Yuji, so he had to wait until his soul broke to take over him. So Megumi got possessed by 16 fingers Sukuna (we now know it was 16 fingers and not 15) all at once after his soul was already in shambles. Not even Yuji could keep control after eating 10 fingers in one sitting. Even after this Megumi was able to fight back and lower Sukuna's CE, which is the reason why Yuji and Maki didn't get killed and which surprised Sukuna.
So then his soul had to be suppressed a second time with the bath, drowing it in negative emotions and basically pure evilness. That was also not enough to be sure he wouldn't fight back and so Sukuna killed his sister. It was a chain of events. Sukuna literally cursed with the whole "he will lose all will to live".
Then after that Megumi's soul stayed in the abyss for more than a month. By comparison even in Shibuya Yuji stayed possessed for like an hour and he was totally broken and later had to get a speech from Todo. Imagine more than a month. Then Megumi's soul took 5 UVs which, even tho are only dangerous when hitting the brain, must have not been pleasant. Then he killed Gojo, who Megumi cared about, and then hurt his friends. What happened in 251 was realistic: he isn't sitting back expecting to be saved without doing anything, he is telling Yuji to forget about saving him and finish the job. Continuing to fight to save him is YUJI'S choice and it's important for his character. Megumi's moment will come, but he needs support and probably a motivational speech like Yuji got from Todo. Having a bit of compassion and patience will pay off in the end for the fans that can understand the situation and aren't driven by agendas

He is basically taking back the whole "start by saving me", reassuring Yuji that it's ok to kill him and that he wants to die. Berating Megumi for that also diminishes Yuji's choice to keep wanting to save him, which could become even more important in case Yuta and the others have actually given up on Megumi. Yuji is actively doing it and it's crucial for his character, especially after he literally failed to save everyone he tried to and had so many people die in front of him (grandpa, Junpei, Nanami, Nobara, Gojo, Higuruma and now Choso), plus obviously seeing Megumi get possessed. Managing to save at least one person is important for him

People seem to forget Yuji has had Sukuna take over him for a total of maybe an hour? The fights with Jogo and Mahoraga probably lasted 15 minutes and that still almost broke Yuji if not for Todo being there. Megumi has been taken over for months now without anyone to pull him out + he had the supressing ritual done + he got hit with the strain of multiple Infinite Voids. It shouldn't be a surprise that he broke.

One of the worst things to happen to Animanga discourse, espeically with JJK is fans are unable to view stories and characters like they aren’t celebrities to worship or athletes to idolize. Nobody understands character at all in battle shonen these days outside of power ups and winning fights. The whole point of Megumi is he’s a guy who largely wasn’t really given a choice on being a sorceror, and his real motivator was someone who was largely inactive, and the minute he’s allowed to at respite it’s stolen from him, so the motivator is gone, and then he has his agency stolen from him in a literal sense. He then kills his mentor with his own body. These aren’t “ fumbles” these are explicitly used of his character. The whole point of the Shinjuku Showdown is it’s a Megumi Retrieval Arc. Fans act like there’s only 1 way to execute story and any other way is bad, but no one can actually describe what it is. Discourse in Animanga has devolved into basically a whining cinema sins type of thing, not an ounce of nuance or contextual analysis. I’m here to see if this video goes somewhere different.
Very true. People have a very warped perception of anime and manga and come to ridiculous conclusions and perceptions as a result. JJK, Chainsaw Man, MHA and One Piece first come to mind. Gojo and Makima idolization, MANY sins of MHA fandom and One Piece stocks market, agendas and power scaling community are one of the biggest detriments to reputations and growth of those titles.
your comment would be valid if the same ppl were disagreeing with story elements. they’re not. they’re only making fun of the characters, BECAUSE of the plot that was written for them. Megumi is in fact NOT built to be in this battle. that is a fact story wise like you explained. ppl are just making fun of the fact that he isn’t. nobody is saying it’s bad writing outside of megumi fans who feel he should have been “done better.” in short, everyone whose meme-ing on megumi 100% agrees with his nuance story analysis.
Im one of those people who tend to shit on Megumi, but not because of bad writing. I just hate the fact that while everyone else out here is tryna make themselves be useful he's the only one doing the opposite, and he's allowing that to happen to himself. Lets not act like he's never had a crash out moment before when he was backed into a corner.

Megumi didn't have anyone because he was trapped in his own body that was being used by the strongest sorcerer in history. He was left alone for basically a month, with his own body that killed his motivator, his teacher, and injured his friends.
But people just like to forget this and bring the argument that Itadori killed thousands of innocent people and thugged it out "by himself"

And dude, just because someone has been involved in the jujutsu world for years, that doesn't make them immune to the horrors they have to face. Just look at a retired soldier with PTSD, mf's been in war for years but still get traumatized, even if they only saw a single friend of them die. It's almost the same thing, just look at how Geto handled the trauma of seeing a single random girl die: becoming a terrorist that hates non-sorcerers. What I'm trying to say is that everyone has their limits and just trying to criticize Megumi's own limits while also ignoring the fact that Yuji almost did the same thing is stupid

Yuji was literally bred to be a vessel for Sukuna so I don’t understand how people compare him to Megumi and call Megumi a bum.
The fact that Yuji lost Choso and Gojo- And is still going out of his way to save Megumi says a lot about how much he’s grown as a character.

I dont know why people ignore all megumi has done up until he got body snatched witch was supposed to be a tragic moment even then megumi will likely come back either to help fight the merger or even activate it him self but im sure yuji will be able to give megumi a new reason to live even if it comes at the cost of his own life
i think the entire phenomenon of forgetting previous character development has something to do with the explosion of leak culture. i am absolutely not immune to it myself (i wait for tcb scans that come in earlier than viz), as the excitement about leaks happening are felt much more than the actual narrative weight of the story. and, though it’s a personal peeve of mine, when people see the leaks without a translation, they run with it as though the panel was fully translated with context; it’s like a rush of dopamine before you actually internalize the events.
this is especially the case when you read chapters weekly without referring the to previous ones. some of these takes i see online feel like these people read one new chapter per week and take that as the representative of the entire series. something about the overwhelming hype of leaks (sometimes out of context) and the lack of media literacy/reading comprehension make an awful combination that plagues readers
Megumi is a plant at this point , it's best to just kill him along with sukuna now rather than try to save him , they tried it once and yuta was chopped in half , and itadori has to accept the fact he cant save everyone , so he might as well give up and kill megumi so at least the people left he cares about live.

I can't understand the hate for Megumi. Jesus, what did he do to you?I understand the dislike for Mahito who loves to kill or for Sukuna, but people are angry at the kid who was emotionally destroyed plus his will was surrendered to Sukuna after the ritual bath. I have the impression that people who write that he should do something even after this, do not realize or do not want to realize that everyone goes through trauma differently, and what Megumi is doing now is actually the most...natural and human reaction. Honestly, I feel like Megumi having wasted potential could be either something that is aimed to be fixed in the future as part of his character development, or it is a key part of his character. He’s made out to be someone with “as much potential as Gojo” multiple times, yet it is put to waste so much, and his potential is only shown through Sukuna. So, Yuji and Megumi’s dynamic could be something like Gojo and Geto, just that their end is opposite. It could be that Yuji, no matter what, would stay good until the end, unlike Geto, who gave in into his dark thoughts, while Megumi, unlike Gojo, gave up, and because of that, either became evil and had an awakening that way, or simply gave up and chose to use himself as a sacrifice, like the final tool in order for everyone else to achieve victory.

Yuji has a mental breakdown after multiple civilians died and that was understandable. If Megumi gets fried by 5 unlimited void domain expansions, has his father, his mentor, his sister + his entire clan killed people tell him to "look in". Like wtf??
@neos.4587 People weren't being actively killed for Yuji's sake when he had his meltdown. If Nanami or Todo had died trying to get Yuji to snap out of his funk, I would bet that there are people who will continue to blame Yuji for not locking in quick enough. The fact is that Megumi refusing any help is actively killing the people trying to stop Sukuna. This isn't Megumi passed out or in a coma because of Gojo's DE, this was a conscious Megumi telling Yuji, who went through hell just to reach him, that he doesn't want to be saved.

This is a unfairly written character by an author that didnt *believe* in his potential from the beginning. Like a lot more characters from jjk he just wasn't given enough screen time and he didn't have his big moment before supposedly dying when Sukuna took over his body completely..

I would say "In the past, Mahoraga defeated a 6-eyes user." Is more accurate.
Ain't no way in hell the past 10-shadows user did much to the past 6-eyes user. The 10-shadows is basically useless unless you're Sukuna.
Indeed but also the 6 eye user from the past was just so much weaker than Gojo. Im pretty a fusion beast like Agito (wich is more achievable than taming raga) could actually do something against that other six eye user. You can also use the shikigami powers without summoning them. So i wouldn't say it's completely useless.
The 10S is the best technique it only depends on the skill/iq/strength of the sorcerer wielding it. Even Megumi brought out some of it and the strongest and smartest sorcerer didn't even bring out everything that the 10S has to offer. A 10S user in the past could've beaten a six eyes user if they had a domain other than that Mahoraga pretty much carried hard.
Ten shadows is OP even without Mahoraga,not enough to kill a skilled six eyes user but still really OP,you have a flying electric bird that you can use for mobility in fights,a frog with a tounge you can use for mobility and trapping,a deer that gives limitless RCT,a bull that can potentially one shot anyone if used from far away,an elephant that can crush bones by making it step on people or be used like piercing blood,limitless rabbits,OP dog (only the totality version),and we didnt see much of the serpent but it seemed really good, unfortunately Sukuna broke it
And the shadows can be used for mobility + Storage
Oh and a completed Chimera Shadow Garden is BROKEN,infinite shadows for infinite mobility,and theoretically you can summon 10 of the same shikigami at once which likely means they wont die even if one is killed,so you can literally get 10 Mahoragas and even if you cant use Mahoraga you can use NINETY SHIKIGAMI AT ONE TIME

I feel like when people hear that quote they just think "Oh its Gojo vs Megumi but like 400 years ago". No that is NOT what that means.
No six-eyes plus infinity user is the exact same. Gojo is the strongest because he is experienced, creative, has skills to go along with his op powers. The other users may have lacked physical ability or creativity etc to properly excell as sorcerers.
Similarly the previous 10S user could have been an experienced and capable sorcerer who managed to tame 9 out of 10 shadows and used fusion to amp them up greatly. Furthermore remember that technique does not equal cursed energy output, that is different. So the six eyes user may have had less cursed energy than Gojo and the previous 10S user probably had far more cursed energy. The potential is there because it is based on a wide variety of factors not just techniques.
Gojo was a better deuteragonist, he even had more screen time until the end or Perfect preparation.
Tbh Megumi would have been equal to Yuji or maybe even close to his power if Sukuna didnt take over him

Megumi is one of the smartest when it comes to fight IQ but 10S WITHOUT Big Raga is too strong for him to throw away his life 5 times first season. Please remember, he was training with Gojo as soon as he awakened his inherited CT.

Haven't watched the video yet and honestly I don't really like megumi as a character and I think the potential man meme is hilarious but we gotta be fr, he's defeated special grade curses multiple grade 1 sorcerers and has an imperfect domain as a first year, that is INSANE in the jujutsu world a domain at his age is almost unheard of hell even powerhouses like kashimo don't even have a domain he's seriously super powerful but he's still only 15 if he had maybe 5 more years to mature he could become the pinnacle of grade 1 alas jjk ain't the kind of story to nurture characters like that so we'll most likely never see his full potential

I actually believe Megumi will come back by becoming the worst version of himself. Yuji already tried being nice and it didn't do much. Jujutsu Kaisen's power system literally runs on evil, negative emotions and mental instability. He doesn't need friendship or commitment for the greater good, he needs unrelenting, overwhealming hatred to fuel his potential

i understand what you're saying, and agree with it to some degree, but megumi is still disappointing to me. he has about the same amount of character development as nobara, and she got none + is dead. aside from the issue of his whole raison d'etre (his sister) being completely offscreened, he as a character doesn't get much in the way of... purpose? i'm not sure if that's the right word, but he feels kinda directionless for no real reason. that's a big problem for a lot of the jjk characters tbh, but it's especially egregious for the ostensible deuteragonist.
like, i get that he's depressed and kinda suicidal, but that begs the question-- why? people love to glaze gege for his liberal use of flashbacks, but it bothers me that we don't get to know the motivations or origins of 75% of the cast until they're on death's door. i have to assume we'll get one for meg eventually, but i don't feel like you can call the fushiguro we have right now anything but half-baked, and staying like that for the vast majority of the story is unbelievably disappointing.

The moment gege wrote megumi summoning mahoraga in shibuya was the moment when imo the series started falling off. While the series did not get bad immediately afterwards, there was still a lot of great moments in fact. This was the first "wtf gege!?" moment for me.

Because he always fights the strong mfs in this series, and he is always alone in all the fights, whereas Yuji gets support from other characters.
1. Yuji vs finger bearer, Sukuna helped him out (Yuji lost the fight)
2. Yuji vs Mahito, Nanami helped him out.
3. Yuji vs Todo, it wasn't even a fight, basically Todo was teaching him. (whereas Todo hated Megumi because he is boring and was more serious against him)
4. Yuji vs Hanami, Todo was there to back him up.
5. Yuji vs choso's brothers, Nobara was there with him.
6. Yuji vs the old man (in season 2 ep 11), Megumi found out the old man's INVERSE TECHNIQUE and helped him.
7. Yuji vs choso (Yuji lost)
8. Yuji vs Mahito, he lost the fight but he got emotionally motivated by Todo and Todo helped him throughout the fight.
Yuji always got support from others and he lost most of the match when he was alone but he is still supported by the fandom, whereas Megumi fights all by himself and he has his wins and loses but still is hated by the fandom. The favouritism is real y'all.

I'm more curious about one thing... If he does get saved from Sukuna, would his body revert back to Megumi or would it be Sukuna's body he'll continue to live in instead?
The key differences is that Yuji could fight back Sukuna, Megumi could just affect the curse energy output when possessed and that’s just because it had just happen. Both of them had loved ones killed brutally, there isn’t a point on comparing their tragedy just because of Sukuna. The real question is how the heck if Megumi is saved could he walk off the infinite voids or how is his physical body will be after Sukuna is taken from it…
If he somehow survives all of that his body just like Yuji will remember Special Grade sorcery which is neat I guess
The main disadvantage Megumi has is that he didn't have brothers (or father who didn't just beat him up once and then killed himself) other than Yuuji
For the latter it took the radiant chad Aoi Todo almost literally scraping Yuuji off the floor when he was broken after he saw two people he met a couple of months ago die
Megumi on the other hand often has to fight alone and just becomes a little bit less sane every time he gets pushed to the limit. I really hope Gege doesn't waste this aspect and at some point Megumi goes off the rails and kills someone in the most brutal way possible. I don't think it will be Sukuna, but that would be funny
Potential man is also way more cold blooded than "I am you" Yuuji and I am sure will do something great because of it

to be honest, We gotta give it Megumi being hella tanky. I think he's comparable to Yuji in terms of physical strength if you think about it. He's not strong as Yuji but he's just as tanky or even tankier than Yuji himself. Bro survives getting DBZ combo'd by Todo and sukuna and STILL was able to walk it off easily. Compared to the other characters, he's just got the best endurance and stamina of them all. The only problem (in my opinion) is his confidence. Dont quote me on this, im still watching the video.
Megumi objectively doesn’t have better physical strength to yuji. Endurance or stamina included since yuji has a lot more feats that show his strength and endurance is just on a different level to megumi’s

Nah the difference is how the characters deal with things,yuji gets hurt in crazy ways and still tries to find a way to go on,Megumi been trying to off himself despite having some of the most blessed circumstances,dude literally had the most powerful broken technqiue,the literal strongest as his personal mentor and yet never really lived up to what he could have been.
I mean look at the way Yuji is getting shredded in his fights with mahito and stuff,like dude gets eviscerated,cuts,tears, everything and he still keeps going.

Yuji had people to support him and get him through his lowest moments. Megumi only had Sukuna and Mahoraga to save him. Megumi also got done fighting Dagon, Toji, and the inverse guy just for him to get surprised attack by Haruta, leading him to summon Mahoraga. Had Todo not been there in both the times where Yuji lost his will to fight he would've died.

Like, I'm pretty sure his bond with Nanami and Nobara were at least 50% of what Megumi and Tsumiki had. And even then, you don't just consider yourself guilty for mass murder and just walk away. Like, Oppenheimer, Carlos Drummond, all the great inventors in history who ended up creating things that revolutionized mass murder ended up depressed after they saw what their creations did, Yuji is the same, specially since he considers life one of the most valuable things ever (his literally entire character was based around giving others a good death before Gege simply forgot about it).
Also, Gojo doesn't even play into the equation, he gave up after Tsumiki only. Like, he didn't even care his basically adoptive father was murdered, he straight up was just "oh boohoo, sister dead".
He's a complete BUM and you can't prove otherwise, and I'm the number 1 Yuji hater, but even I gotta admit Yuji had it way worse and did a lot better.
