    Hi Randy- I have thoroughly enjoyed the education I get from your channel. I really enjoy it and please keep the contact coming. I didn’t have any idea that you were the face behind the prideful goat brand. I have seen it here in my local B & M spots that I stop at… I am a home health therapist working in Southeast Houston. So I stop at places here and there. Some of my work is in the La Porte Pasadena area. I stopped at a spot for the first time and the gentleman by the name of Lynn who is the proprietor there at First Sip Liquor in the La Porte Deer Park area was kind enough to speak to me about some questions I had. One of the questions I had was about store pics… I was specifically asking him about buffalo trace store pics because I am just learning about what that means. He told me that I was standing next to some store pics that he had chosen and it was from your brand. He was really Bragging about this particular brand which I have been very interested in. I want to tell you as a consumer I was drawn to the label and the colors… I was personally drawn to the green label and considered purchasing it in the recent past and he was really Pushing the rye (tan label) … So that is what I will try this evening. I wish you the best on this and I look forward to trying my own bottle of prideful goat this evening. I also really like the proof level of this. It’s right in my wheelhouse.

    I have finally met the goat. I bought a bottle of the 6-year rye at Total Wine and then promptly caught a cold. I had to wait until the cold was gone before I could finally try it. I did a comparison tasting with two other cask strength ryes (and posted my tasting notes to the Facebook group), and the goat was the one that most appealed to me that evening. It's interesting to hear how it came to be, and I am glad that it has turned out well. Now, I'll be tempted to check out the bourbon.

Suffice to say, Prideful Goat Rye won the second blind and is on to the finals, beating out (a very outclassed) Old Taylor, McKenna 10, Russell's Private Barrel, and a TW Peerless Rye Single Barrel Pick. The others had never had it, but for it to beat Peerless for me in a blind is a real win.

    • @BourbonRealTalk
      @BourbonRealTalk  Год назад

      Someone has to be federally licensed by the TTB as a Distilled Spirits Plant (DSP). In my case, I helped develop TPG for Gulf Coast Distillers who already had a DSP, so no new licensing was required. It is also possible to own the IP associated with a brand and operate with an agreement with another distillery who is also licensed, but there has to be a lot of trust since both sides are so vulnerable to the actions of the other.

      Batch 4 was the last batch we will release of the 15 year. We are all out of liquid, and it has not been made by the distillery that originally made it in something like 19 years, so there is no more.

    How much of the flavor would you say is the juice versus the barrel? Any chance you have any information you point us to ? Seems like an important consideration for an NDP.

    • @BourbonRealTalk
      @BourbonRealTalk  2 года назад

      Almost everything I have read says 60-70 of the flavor is from the barrel. I think they mean maturation as a whole and not just the compounds pulled from the barrel during aging. This is why NDPs that buy the same liquid can have very different tasting products if the barrels aged at the producer's facility for any period of time. The best example I have seen of this is when we bring MGP barrels from their very mild aging environment into Texas. They change very quickly. Here is a link for reference:

    If producers are not allowed to sell directly to consumers than how can I buy your whisky from your shop? Just trying to understand how all of this works. Is Bourbon Outfitters considered a distributor then because if it's just an online store than why can't a producer make their own online store?

    • @BourbonRealTalk
      @BourbonRealTalk  10 месяцев назад

      Bourbon Outfitters and Seelbach's are licensed retailers in Washington D.C. The district of columbia is one of the only governing entity that allows producers to sell directly to a retailer without the involvement of a second tier wholesaler. It is also one of the only governing entities that allows retailers to ship outside of their jurisdiction. There are some producers that have a purchase option on their website, and you think you are buying from them directly, but generally they have a licensed retail partner that "white labelled" their website. Producers can not have their own online retail store because tied house laws prevent an entity from having ownership interest in more than one tier.
      Of course, everything above is generally true. There are different laws in each state that might allow a producer to sell direct to consumer and ship inside the state, etc.

    • @GrantMcWilliams
      @GrantMcWilliams 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@BourbonRealTalk Thanks, that's very interesting. Imagine if the US had fewer laws? I live in Mexico and you can buy alcohol online from any state and have it shipped to any other. I decided I'd order my father-in-law a bottle of Redbreast 12 since he likes it so much and have it sent to him. I've been out of the US too long apparently and forgot how restrictive and convoluted it is. He lives in Oregon so no shipping anything.

      @@GrantMcWilliams We spent a week in San Miguel De Allende for dia de los muertos. I was fascinated by the difference in what was restricted. Liquor and traffic laws basically non existent, but no guns. Texas is the opposite 🤣

    • @GrantMcWilliams
      @GrantMcWilliams 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@BourbonRealTalk They're extremely strict about antibiotics, narcotics and guns. Other things they don't worry too much. We do dry-law when we get close to major holidays and voting though so if anyone wants to vote while being intoxicated they have to think ahead. Mexico after the revolution patterned their government after the United States with state-rights, two chambers of congress and an executive branch. The judicial branch isn't 100% separated though but a lot of the rest is very similar. However, federal law rules for things that effect the entire country so you can ship alcohol anywhere you want. I never buy local anymore. You cannot however, have anything over 55%. So here, cask strength stops at 55%. I don't know if you noticed but Bourbon is oddly not common in Mexico even considering the close proximity to the US. We get Wild Turkey, Woodford Reserve, Jack and Jim and a few others. 90% of our whisky is from Scotland so each time I have to go the states I bring back 4 bottles per person that is traveling with me. But then I do the same when in Scotland and Ireland too.
      Yes, Texas has some weird liquor laws... Also taking alcohol into the US is a bit weird as it's up to the state that you land in. Sometimes getting the alcohol board for that state to divulge how much you can have with you is a pain. The last time I flew into Chicago and I finally got them to tell me I could bring a gallon, so I did.
