As a black man in healthcare it bothers me that people view the racial disparities in healthcare as an intentional thing by doctors lying to black people. I’m not saying this as a defense of doctors, I’m saying it because misdiagnosing the problem means we pursue the wrong solution. As a black man in healthcare it bothers me that people view the racial disparities in healthcare as an intentional thing by doctors lying to black people. I’m not saying this as a defense of doctors, I’m saying it because misdiagnosing the problem means we pursue the wrong solution. Of course there’s racists who do it intentionally but for the most part it’s a combination social inequality as a whole and implicit bias. If we beat the drum that it’s all or mostly intentional then all the doctors who have a implicit bias but aren’t consciously aware of what they’re doing will go “Oh this doesn’t apply to me” and continue what they’re doing.

Flat Earthers like this are the first little pig. They were taught plenty of things growing up, but never actually learned them. They feel like they have a handle on the world, but that footing is much more flimsy than they think. Their foundation for understanding science is a house of straw. So, of course, when the Big Bag Wolf of Flat Earth comes along, he blows it over easily. But rather than reflect on what a poor choice of building material straw was, they are amazed at the strength of the wolf's breath.
It's sad how the common reaction in testimonials like these is to think, it's all a conspiracy and everyone's been lying to me! and not I need to get in touch with my old 3rd grade teacher and ask her to review some stuff because clearly I missed something.
