    Get rid of those factory gears because the new wheel and tire combo are taller which will result in engine lugging...4.56 gears will put the engine back in its power band

    • @ChallengeTheBuild
      @ChallengeTheBuild  Год назад

      So the truck had 3.73 gears and the tires are not that much larger however the truck could benefit from 4.10s to help with acceleration and still maintain a good highway cruise. Keep in mind that the actual stock oem wheel and tire size would have actual been bigger then the wheels I took off and put back on... The OEM wheel and tire would have probably been a 245/75/r16 or something equivalent 🤷‍♂️🤔

  • @carsandmoods3593
    @carsandmoods3593 4 месяца назад +1

    I wanna do this to a 2009 Sierra 3500HD, but as trucker what troubles me, is the torque settings... is it the same torque for the 10-lug as the hub Pilot lugs like on my Peterbilt? 450-500 ft-lbs on the torque wrench for the 10 lug? Are the lug nuts on the adapter the same as a Semi Truck? what torque does the original 8 stud wheel nuts take? and now that you don't got a wheel on the hub when torquing it down... how do you keep it braked so you can torque the 8 stud hub adaptor down? Please let me know. thanks.

    • @ChallengeTheBuild
      @ChallengeTheBuild  4 месяца назад +1

      I can understand the hesitancy. The lug nuts on the 10lug adapter for the Alcoas were stamped 450-500 ft lbs but because this isn't an 18 wheeler I didn't torque to that spec. I think I torqued everything to 150 ft-lbs +/- I can't remember, I did use a little blue thread locker on the lug nuts that held the actual adapter on and both adapter and alcoas are hub piloted so everything was solid. As far as getting everything torqued I snugged everything with a few ugga duggas and then torqued everything once it was on the ground. It really isn't that big of a deal, pretty straight foward and I'd imagine each company that sells adapters and wheels recommend different things.🤷‍♂️. After installing and driving a few hundred miles I re-torqued and that was that. The re-torque didn't expose any loose lug nuts either, everything was dead on where it was when I finished the first time... I think because of being a trucker you're thinking BIG TRUCK thinking (not that its wrong) just keep in mind there's a big difference between Semi Truck and 3500hd and whats required with each truck... Regardless we still want to be safe! Hope this helps🤷‍♂️👍 .

    • @carsandmoods3593
      @carsandmoods3593 4 месяца назад

      @ChallengeTheBuild yeah that helps. I appreciate you. I think what I'd do is just a retorque after 150 miles. And then just check up and then after 2500 miles retorque again as a Precaution.

    How heavy are those adapters? Seems you would be putting a lot of of excess weight where you do want want it. Not to mention more wear on the axels, king pins and bearings. Doing this this to a new vehicle could void your warranty if you had any issues.

    • @ChallengeTheBuild
      @ChallengeTheBuild  Год назад

      They are heavy! I forgot to weigh them but I'd imagine that they are about 30-40lbs +/- each and yes you are correct on all points. My main concern is specifically on the front end, not so much the rear. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍

    Judging by where the stripped section was on the lug I'd say most likely was caused by overtightening it, I find a lot of people way over torque their lugs especially tire shops, really an impact shouldn't be used for the final tighten, it takes a little longer but a good hand tire iron is all that should be used for final torque, this way if you get a flat on the road you know you'll be able to remove it by hand.

    • @ChallengeTheBuild
      @ChallengeTheBuild  Год назад

      The lug nuts that hold the wheel to the adapter had 400ft lbs etched into the lug nut, so I can assure you I did not over torque 😁... Final torque was done using a 1/2" torque wrench then rechecked after a 100 miles or so. I did not torque them to 400ft lbs either, seemed a little excessive for this, however on a semi probably would be smart to..

    • @ifyourmarriedyourasimpanda7440

      Only the shops you go to, any real mechanic will always check the torque with a torque wrench to make sure it's correct.

    • @PowerHousePowerHouse-tk8ug
      @PowerHousePowerHouse-tk8ug Год назад +1

      Tire shop suppose to have torque sockets for the impacts to prevent over tightening. They're long and thin and they get thicker. But me myself like to use a torque wrench.
