For the viewer's information, if you use the "auto stick" feature, which the CVT has, it simulates 6 manual transmission gear ratios, it will climb that hill just fine. This feature also is very handy on ice and snow for engine breaking. Simply continue gearing down until you are prepared to come to a full stop. No break grabbing in the wet, no skidding. Just a smooth safe stop.
Sean Fleeman that’s exactly what I was going to say we have one and in the book it tells you to turn traction control off and turn on manual mode and activate your 4wd for maximum power

Mine has been reliable. I’ve had my 2011 since new and it’s great. Good mileage and easy to work on for maintenance. Sure, the plastic in the interior is not the best but not bad for less than 20k when it came out.
@bg1379 Its main difference is its front facf facia; it looks similar to that of the Grand Cherokee. The Patriot's similar facia is close to the Wrangler. Also, the Patriot is better suited for off-roading than the Compass; 2011 is the first time it gave the Jeep Trail rated badge. Where its the same are the powertrains.

The Patriot has a boxier shape, and Jeep says that its front looks like a Wrangler (I personally don't see it as such). Pricewise, Patriot tend to cost a little less.

Well I know this video was 10 years ago now it is 2021 and we have had the worst snow and ice snow storm here in Texas just recently we as well have a 2011 Jeep Compass and yes it is paid for thank goodness but now that we have went through all of that are Jeep does not have 4-wheel drive and it is not trail rated but we love the look of the Jeep Compass so our next one will be trail rated LOL and plenty of off road upgrades👍👍
I would like to see a comparo of the CVT vs the 6 speed auto they put in the Avenger. I think it would be a big improvement. I've driven an Avenger & a 2010 Compass w/CVT. I'll take the 6 spd any day!

Don't you think that now they must update the rear as well? The front look superb and sharp ,but the rear still looks boring. I guess they had the budget to only update the front or rather the budget to update the front of Cherokee and than copy paste it to a compass.

If you look under it the only thing I saw was a plastic front skid plate. If going 4X4 get at lest a little bigger tires.

How do you compare a Compass to a Rubicon JK that comes standard with M/T tires when trying to go up that muddy hill? The compass has with A/T tires which are really a joke to be called that.
@Jeep1444 I like Pentastar that on a Liberty. The Powertech 4L V-6 is underpowered and its fuel economy is worse than Chrysler 300/ Dodge Charger V8 with AWD. The Liberty will be all new in '13 from what I hear, and will have Fiat's design. We'll see what they've got on the pipeline.
+Mike Morrison around the door all the trim is warping and peeling and bubbling up. Mind you I live in Chicago. Handle on drivers seat broke, power windows stopped working. Just a ton of problems. Traded it in for a 2016 Cherokee. Much better quality
Why is it that it's so difficult to see any opinion?? I thought the whole point of reviews are the reviewer's opinion about the car. This video is just repeating what the jeep reps are saying. I am getting increasingly frustrated with these types of videos that waste my time.
i know its quite nice at offroading but before u pick this over a crv, u must consider that this car only got 2 star out of 5 in the euroncap safety test
The jeep grand cherokee and compass look way better then the jeep wrangler and the patriot....the patriot and wrangler needs a new design because they are really ugly and will not make anyone pause and say that car is nice like the cherokee and compass

The 2012 Patriot and Compass get motified CVT automatics. I guess there was a complaint about the '11 versions of them.
