The HK32 was a prototype firearm that was never produced in great numbers. PTR, and American company, has recreated the HK32 and call it the PTR32.

Thr 7.62x39 is such an underrated round, mostly just because of its soviet roots. Wish there was more in hunting and self-defense options for it.
We use Cor Bon here in Indiana for Mr. Deer.
There are a lot of hunting options for 7.62x39. Look at ammoseek for options. I know there are several manufacturers producing soft point or ballistic tip hunting ammo for 7.62x39. Heck, even PSA (palmetto state armory) is selling AAC black tip in 7.62x39 for $11-12 per box.
Overrated imo
Regular steel case is adequate for self defense. You don't really need fancy rounds for 7.62x39. For hunting soft points are pretty devastating.
I agree! .30 carbine is the same way. I don’t know why more manufacturers don’t make stuff for.30 carbine. We can still get it in military bulk because it is still used in numerous countries.
We definitely need more companies besides Hornady making brass case 5.45x39mm.
Im sure the other manufacturers have looked at it and decided the market isnt big enough. Which is a shame because I like the round.
@@newdefsys why? It’s lighter, slower and weaker than 5.56x45.
Hornady is doing the lord’s work.
I'm sure PSA won't pass up on the opportunity
@@meanman6992 much better BC, and the more aggressive taper means you don't *need* brass for reliable extraction. The ~10% reduction in muzzle energy is mostly irrelevant, especially with modern (short) barrel lengths. And it's just great to have variety. We have tens(?)/hundreds(?) of thousands of 5.45 AKs in the US, and millions of 5.45 mags. They're historically significant, and imo the 5.45 aesthetic is interesting. There's nothing quite like Tula/Izhmash "plum" furniture and magazines.
I disagree that we need more *brass* 5.45 production, but agree that it'd be nice to have more 5.45 ammo in general. And if the caliber were to get any US civilian development (which it won't), I'd rather it be in projectile design. A 77gr SMK equivalent or a bonded soft point would be awesome.
I’ve had this rifle for several years now. 2 things for potential and/or new owners-
1: That handguard is dog shit. Replace it with an aluminum one from hkparts. This plastic one gets hotter than the sun.
2: Due to the blowback system, the receiver gets FILTHY, so cleaning it can be a real nightmare. Get some slip 2000 ewl 30 and lube the hell out of everything. That stuff is a godsend. I use it on all my guns now and it allows you to basically just wipe everything down with a paper towel.
All that said, this is a fantastic rifle and it is so fun to shoot.
Also, I did follow PTR’s “break in” process. I can’t recall exactly, but it was something like running a bore snake through it after each mag for the first couple hundred rounds. During that process, I did have a couple failures. Can’t remember exactly, but I think a couple casings just didn’t eject properly. After those first couple hundred rounds though, I’ve had zero malfunctions.
Have both an HK 93 Clone and PTR 32. Roller delayed works best in its original intermediate round variation.
Will you buy me a PTR 32 for Christmas? I have been good this year
Some would argue that roller delayed peaked in 9mm, but as far as I'm concerned, they're all excellent when done right.
According to Ian McCollum of forgotten weapons Germany never licensed the G3 and the German engineers just brought this entire CETME technical data package back with them when they came back from Spain
I thought Colt was bad..
@SeanTheChrist but was it really "government reverse engineer"? It was the actual engineers that designed it that moved back to Germany and brought the full technical data package with them and a couple of them founded HK and another took the technical data to Rhinemetal and they both competed in German trials
Never wanted a HK. But now I'm thinking about it.
I do love my PTR32, though I haven't shot it as much as I'd like. A definite upgrade for it was the magpul HK grip. Man it makes the rifle feel just amazing to hold.
Or if PTR would release their TH housings
@@Pyrosis22 I'm waiting for PTR to release all of their accessories. But in the meantime the magpul is pretty good. C'mon collapsing stocks though
@@WPSent Atlantic firearms sells the Turkish MKE collapsing stock and its a good fit. It aint cheap but its nowhere near the price of an HK OEM unit.
@@newdefsys Bought one, it's not a good fit. Need to get it worked on first.
What's freaking crazy is there's every former Warsaw country besides Russia that importers can import 7.62x39 from and plenty that they can import 5.45x39 from. Why aren't we still bringing in ammo from Bulgaria? We already brought in Bulgarian ammo, but what about Hungary, Romania, Poland, ect?
It could depend on if the host nation believes it to be profitable to do so. Arsenal had a ton of 7.62x39 overflow before 2020 and Global Ordinance imported most of it and you could get 20 rounds for around $8.99. Nations like Poland would rather have 7.62x39 in reserve rather than export it.
Many ex-Warsaw Pact nations stopped using 5.45 and stopped producing it. They make NATO calibers now and still produce some 7.62x39.
MFS Hungarian 7.62x39 brass case. Excellent ammo. Look it up and you can thank me later.
We still get in some stuff like Belom (Serbia), PPU (Serbia), Tela (Azerbaijan), Igman (Bosnia/Herzegovina), ATS (North Macedonia), Sterling (Turkey), MFS Defense (Hungary), Sellier & Bellot (Czech), and there's always Yugo surplus (corrosive) ammo out there. 7.62x39 is still coming in, just not the 20 cent a round Russian steel case. Would be nice to see more 5.45 though that seems like a pipe dream.
Azeri Tela Impex steel-cased 5.45x39 is available. Hornady is the only company making brass-cased 5.45x39 AFAIK.
Hell yeah, my baby! My first rifle and as I was researching before getting it a few months ago, there were very few videos on it. So yours is great to see here.
Mine has not failed or misfired once in ~1200 rounds and it's always fun to get other people excited on the range when they try it too (+ let me try their Mosin, SKS, AR-15, etc).
Only thing I don't love is the standarm all-plastic trigger grip -- the older 91 metal one looks and feels so much better. My Magpul one is more comfortable but still sort of a rattley fit.
Going to have to save your bolt head trick and extractor spring info too, thank you.
They make a bolt reassembly tool that makes it super easy. No fooling with crescent wrenches and getting in at the correct angle. Very affordable as well.
Keep up the good work !
I owned a PTR 32PDWGEN2 for years. It is damn near as smooth as firing my MP5. I had my mag well cut to facilitate a steel drum because I am one of the lucky few that own a registered sear.
I have been hounding them for years to make a 93 clone a but they said there was nothing in the works. Now they come out with a 41 clone six months truly for me to own one in my state.
Thanks Tim for your great content And for letting everybody know how cool the PTR 32 series are.
PTR actually did a run of 93 clones for Century a few years ago, the C93 Sporter. Great gun!
Thanks Tim. I've been interested in that style of rifle for some time. Haven't added one to my collection yet. Maybe it's time.
Great information! I love my PTR32 super accurate, sucks to clean though. Good tips there.
I've been very impressed by the accuracy of this rifle (using Barnaul which I stocked up on a few years ago). I put the extending cocking lever on there (did the same with my PTR91), which really helps
Oh wow. It's been a few years since I've watched MAC again. Stupid RUclips algorithm.
Glad to have come back with all this content to watch. Can I also say that time is hell on a man? I remember when MAC had a full blonde beard!
Great content
I'm a big fan of the H&K. I have an H&K-91, back some years a go when the 7.62X51 ammo was cheap I would fire 500 round a month. used a red dot and scope on it. It is one heavy rifle as I carried it when I went walking around the farm one day, It gave me a work out carrying it. Enjoyed you video very much. Thanks for a very good video. (Mississippi Gulf Coast, USA).
Just saw some Hk 91s at cabelas in their used section going for 5k each wow they are pricy now. They were Even selling a Chinese sks for 1k. Shit I remember when an sks was had for less than 150.
I had one of these. damn it was heavy. The recoil was minimal but it was a dense heavy little beast compared to other 7.62x39 rifles. Also I'm not a fan of the HK ergonomics. So, it looks cool but I ended up selling it.
Regarding the use of lacquer coated steel cases in a fluted chamber, I have to wonder if the lacquer might eventually build up in the flutes, and start causing extraction problems. I remember back in the 1990's there was some 308 surplus that was causing a similar problem because a tar like substance had been used as a case neck sealant. After a bit of it had been fired, the sealant would build up in the flutes and cause problems. Just a thought to keep in mind.
I have a PTR32--love it!
Nice M90L jacket 👌🏻
After I got heavily into 7.62x39 bolt guns I figured I needed a proper assault gun in that caliber. I got a PTR 32 and a Krebs Core. I like them both and magazine compatibility is a bonus. The fore end was the first thing I replaced with an AC-Unity unit.
My only issue with PTR is that they never seem to have anything in stock. Most of their MP5/MP5K stocks and lowers have been “coming soon” for years at this point.
Bucket list rifle for me. So many AK magazines, seems like a no-brainer.
Very interesting! 👍
Love my PTR32, such an underrated rifle.
Very cool 😎 PTR rifle 👍👍
The other trick to getting a @collapsed' bolt / carrier assembly ready to insert into the body?Put it inBACKWARDS.
This uses the rear of the body @rails@ to force the rollers inwards.
Then, simply turn it the @proper@ way around and insert.
This works for all the @roller-delayed Hecklea nd Jeckle designs.
Pretty good for a basic design dating back to the mid 1940s.
Good presentation.
Ive been wondering whats up with theaw ptr rifles, thank you for the lesson! Gteat looking fierarms, I see one in my future.
The mighty Century C-93 as well.
"two-fiddy" 🤣
I remember reading that you should NOT fire lacquered cases in fluted chambers because the lacquer will fill in the flutes.
I've got one too and really like it. But yea, a better handguard option(s) would really be nice. I'm on the fence about the new ones from PTR.
5.56mm model is also available from PTR. The Model 63.
Available or going to be available?
You need the Flemming trigger pack.
Shooting Sight makes a nice one as well. That's what I have in mine.
I had one of these and traded it for something else. This was a very well made rifle but too heavy for my liking. It is a good gun for an enthusiast.
Their website says they expect more 32k pdw pistols in soon, but it has been a while. I was waiting for those to get my hands on a 32
Love my AeroM5 (AR10) Lil heavy but dialed in. Great range and accuracy
Same. Yeah the 18 inch heavy barrel is heavy af
Get a better bolt face for your bcg. Aeros bolt is notorious for being weak. Don’t remember who but they did a test and the m5 broke the bolt around 2500 rounds. And was having otter issues by 4k
@@HatsuneM1ku01 already did ! I see you know your shit. Great feedback ty
You don't need a wrench to turn the bolt head.
A strong hand usually is enough. Otherwise we used the sling for better grip if the bolt head was not cooperating.
Yeah, I always use the back rim of the bolt under the tip of the locking lever to cam it up when it's rotated into place, super-easy!
If you take that black plastic handguard off, you'll notice that when PTR started reproducing furniture themselves instead of using the surplus stuff, they never actually put a heat guard in the forends... The German slim handguards do heat up quicker than the "wide" forend, but at least they've got SOME heat shielding
I like when they bring on unique firearms
Damn, really was looking at this but noone should have to replace an extracter after a few rounds.
Very cool. I love your vids!
Glad you like them!
Seems PTR sponsorship works well
I have often wondered why HK made the 32 in 7.62x39, then I realized it was during the Cold War and then I had the aha moment. What if the Red Army came through the Fulda gap, and what if WW3 was in Europe and ammo factories were unable to produce 556, and 762 NATO, hence the HK-32. But that is my thoughts only don't know if it's spot on or not.
The price suprises me. I assumed it was in the $1,100-$1,200 range. I want one.
@MilitaryArmsChannel Could you or would you do some content on barrel rifling? Such as (polygonal, 5R, standard Grove, etc. etc.) and which one would be best, or efficient, accurate whatever, with a carbine/fighting rifle. such as (AK, AR, PTR, SCAR, Spear Lt, LMT, etc. etc. etc.) I would appreciate it very much I am confused on that issue especially the (Polygonal rifling) thank you Great content!!
If you're looking for the "best" that's difficult to define as there are so many different applications. Polygonal that is hammer forged is great for machine gun barrels or military barrels, it was developed by Germany for this reason - to extend barrel life. As for accuracy, that's a whole other issue and you will have opinions all over the place. 5R is definitely something you would run in a precision rifle. In a fighting rifle, I just want a good chrome lined barrel. If I can get hammer forged and chrome lined, even better (like Daniel Defense).
I don't know anything about guns, but this is a very sexy weapon
I like my sporter in 308 made for century arms by PTR for half the price I’ve got out to 500 yards with iron sights fun gun to shoot
I think PTR made the receivers for the Century Arms C308 Cetme.
Reassembly of the bolt always requires me to get out a pliers for the final turn.
Interesting about the spring. What extra parts do you recommend having on hand for an AK?
Not taking steel mags without issues would be a problem for me. That’s all I own lol.
i just w looking at one of these online yesterday, getting curious about it. It looks good and has a lot of appeal, more so than the CMMG AR47 mutant thing that they think is worth $2k.
Really need to see the MOA on this rifle to seriously consider buying one. Wish they had a shorter barrel offering also. I have a HK 91 and 93 and would need to answer the MOA value(s) in order to converge on the "Why?" number crunching
looks like PTR finally got around to actually sizing the mag well for AK mags rather than keep the .308 size
BRING BACK THE GAUNTLET!
They won’t because cheap guns always fail
Can you do a video on Armalite rifles. The ones being made currently ?
I had a 32 liked it but it was so heavy.
Had the same experience with my ex-wife.
Thoughts on the ptr32p? I have both and they are great.
The attention to detail and quality craftsmanship truly make it a standout in the world of firearms.
Kinda want one to shoot subs suppressed with it. Would you need the different locking piece with subsonic ammo? Or is that just a supersonic suppressed thing for these?
Compare accuracy with the PSA GF-5 with the FN barrel, since both are USA made rifles. I have found accuracy on my particular GF-5 rifle excellent.
Does Choate still make the wide handguard for the HK platform?
the german extractor springs are probably tempered differently than the ptr ones, also do you have any guesses as to why the extractor springs are so prone to wear in the hk33/hk roller-delayed patterns? is it an issue with rolley-relayed in general or is it just the design?
Hey Mac, you're always promoting MGS for people asking how to get into the firearm business. I looked into MGS and they are only for US citizens, any recommendations for people living in Canada? I have a bunch of ideas and designs but its useless trying to build anything in this country. Love the channel!
I would also be interested in seeing a 100 yard group from the ptr32 and compare it to groups from an ak47 and sks. Im curious if the lack of gas system makes the ptr32 anymore accurate and im also curious if the roller bolt plays a roll in accuracy compared to the ak rotating bolt and the sks tilting bolt.
Also great if you have registered sear pack !
I love it! Is the charging handle ambi? Can I put it on the other side? How long do the rollers and roller springs last? Approximately. Just curious. I didn’t know roller delay could be used with rifle cartridges. Very cool.
Teutonic Germans all had to be right-handed. 😁 In terms of rifle cartridges, this started in 1945 with Mauser's StG 45 (the original design) in 8mm Kurz and in 1948 morphed into the CETME Model A in 8x41mm then in 1959 the H&K G3 was born in 7.62 NATO. Rollers, etc will wear very slowly under normal circumstances (thousands and thousands of rounds). They are a wear-serviceable part that sets chamber headspace.
@@dkindig thank you! Yeah, my great grandmother was German and left handed and they tied her left hand behind her until she learned with her right. I am left handed and had to adjust due to the military not having any left handed anything, so, I too, had to improvise, adapt, and overcome. And now, I shoot with either hand very well.
Just put a 91 GIR with a wood stock on consignment at a local shop. Can't afford .308 anyway. Cool gun.
This close to a proper 33 or even a variant in 300 blackout, and yet we end up with 63 that appeals to no one.
Wish the 7.62x39 was made on the 93/33 frame. I’m sure they had their reasons though
Funny you made this video right now. HK has just announced to produce a HK132 rifle in 7,62x39. It will take AK Mags.
Control your hand movements
Nice 👍😎❌
9 or 9.5 lbs 7.62x39 rifle? I'll pass.
This in 300 blk would be a monster.
Isn't CMMG Roller delay now??
CMMG has a *rotary* delay, which is very different. Basically (this is super high level - there's a bunch of nuances they had to engineer; this is just the core concept), they cut a slant on the back of the locking lugs, so the bolt *wants* to rotate and unlock from blowback, but it's at a high mechanical disadvantage, providing enough delay to be safe and reliable.
My brother has one that sucker is heavy
What round bag rest is that?
Isn't century arms selling surplus European G3s?
I have one, love it to death, I'll take this over my AK (which has many things on it to reduce recoil and the awful rattling of teeth), the PTR also extremely consistent recoil, it just bounced strait up and down compaired to the AK even with all the additions. Originally put a compensator which made it extremely flat shooting. I can shoot this gun all day compaired to an AK where I'm good after 10 rounds. If you want to use steel mags you have to round out the feed ramps by bending it a bit until it feeds otherwise relyable and still works with my regular AK. Also some polymer mags need a dremmel to cut them to more the Magpul mag style, had to do that for the 40s, after that works great. The big thing is all the compatablity with G3 surplus and parts. Got a supressor (polonium full) and was lucky enough to already have the 65 degree locking piece which made it the most roller lock locking gun out there unsupressed, you feel the bolt carrier move every inch and was sluggish (still completely relyable). Supressed it goes much faster and was relieved that I never got gassed out inside my indoor range after doing bill drills or double taps, not as flat as just the comp, but supressed has other bonuses.
My PTR32 is pretty picky about mags, which is my only complaint.
My ptr32 is picky with ammo, light primer strikes on most steel case.
Replying because I had the same problem. Measure your bolt gap. Good spec would be 0.018" with the bolt closed/locked on an empty chamber with the hammer down and resting on the firing pin, but anything between 0.010" and 0.025" is acceptable. Also verify the bolt is actually going all the way home and locking during cycling with whatever steel case ammo that causes problems. I was having a similar issue with mine that I thought was just random light primer strikes but turned out the issue was the bolt not fully locking in the closed position after cycling. It would stop about an 1/8" shy of fully locked closed. I could actually reach over the gun and put my thumb on the bolt carrier and push forward a bit to get it to click all the way into place. This weird problem ultimately stemmed from the bolt gap being out of spec (0.029"), from the factory, on a brand new gun. I installed larger rollers to get it back to the middle of the bolt gap spec range and it's been great ever since. If your issue is solely light primer strikes you can get a stronger hammer spring from RTG Parts for like $8. Just search "extra power hammer spring" on their website. I did that first and then when that didn't work figured out the real issue was bolt gap related.
Have this. Overgassed but I expect and understand it.
It's not "overgassed", because it isn't gassed *at all* . This gun isn't gas operated, unlike an AR, AK, Garand, FAL, etc.
HK/CETME roller delay is literally just blowback with a delaying mechanism to use mechanical disadvantage instead of purely mass and inertia to keep the action closed "long enough".
If you're saying it opens too quickly and with too much force, that's an indication that the locking piece angles aren't quite right, and should be slightly steeper to slow the opening down just a hair.
Where is accuracy test of wlvrn???
Meh. It’s kinda cool, but there’s better 7.63x39 options available. Honestly, that can be said for all HK roller-delayed rifles. They’re just outdated.
I heard you mention PSA making 5.45x39…. Any idea when that will happen?
No. They just said they're doing it and they just released their 7.62x39 so I suspect it's coming soon.
@@Militaryarmschannel Thank you sir for the quick response!
I'll just stick with my 300AAC Blackout AR.
Heard y'all are getting a Bul Armory model, any truth to that or is it some other MAC?
Use steel case with rollers. Destroys your brass beyond repair so no point giving it the good stuff if it destroys it in 1-3 cycles
I guess you missed the part of the video where I show the brass cases and the lack of damage to them. 😀👍
@@Militaryarmschannel I stay skeptical
Steel mags don't work? /end my interest in this rifle.
300blk AR > PTR32
The HK "Jungle furniture" does not fit PTR or CETME .
This does not spark joy.
Am I the only one simply not impressed by HK?
Eh maybe with time. I wasn’t impressed by Glock but now I only carry Gucci Glocks.
Ac unity makes a wide handguard.
Yeah, I know but I don't like the changes they made to them. I prefer HK OEM style but it may be my only choice.
🤘👴🤘
Does federal make 7.62?
They do.
Thanks for a great video. I’m looking forward to buying a PTR 32 just so I could use my clubfoot stock with the HK 21E recoil buffer on it.
When using the HK 21E recoil buffer on my PTR 91, it reduced the recoil to about that of a typical AK-47. On the PTR 32, the HK 21 recoil buffer will probably reduce the recoil down to nothing.
