Tip for CZ dis-assemble: if you put the hammer in half-cock you can then simply push the slide back and it will stop at the mark correctly for the cross pin to be pushed out.
Don’t bring up the 1911 with him, he will probably say that he loves the platform, but there are more modern guns that have replaced it’s purpose. That answer sort of addresses the inconsistency, but doesn’t address why he hasn’t brought up the same issue specifically with the 1911. He will probably answer by not answering the question.
@@generallobster Maybe he would carry a series 80 gun, but not a series 70. Then again, are all of the Staccato pistols basically series 70 in terms of lacking a firing pin plunger? I think he has more confidence in an extended one sided manual safety as well over an ambidextrous one. And he is not a fan of a safety on a double action gun, especially when it doesn't even have a decocker.
You’re comparing apples to oranges Any 1911/2011 carried as designed (cocked and locked) have a pretty well thought out lock work that prevents the hammer from falling and actually reaching the firing pin without both that frame and grip safety being disengaged and trigger being pressed.
@Lexman00 @JNOSNOW I just compared my p07 with stock internals to another one with a full Cajun trigger and my double action was way smoother just from shooting it a lot. The only noticeable difference was the shorter reset
@cavalieroutdoors6036 Yeah the omega were the best but the bad part was that their safety would fall out of the gun. I also got mad that the safety was so floppy and weak stock
I bought a PO1 Omega used for $470, which turns out was sent to CZ for custom shop work, appears the sights and some sorta trigger work. Probably been the best sub $500 gun purchase ever.
Mac is the only channel on RUclips that makes a video on a topic that is a half hour long with the first 25 minutes rambling about stuff not related to the video title.
1) A "half hour" is 30 minutes. Because I have eyeballs, I can see this video is 26 minutes 38 seconds long. 2) Just to entertain your statement, I clocked the 25 minute mark to check if he does state why he won't carry this gun, in the last minute and 38 seconds. He doesn't. He goes into his outro. So I'm going to assume you are just impatient and rude.
Agreed! However, I appreciated the safety analysis of the CZ Shadow 2 Compact as I was considering this firearm for purchase. I’m going to wait for a decocker to replace the safety, otherwise it’s not a CCW option for me. Thanks for the video.
This is babbling about things that are obvious and have nothing to do with the the title. The commenter was directionally correct. No one on RUclips is more impressed with his own opinions. He thinks they’re all fascinating.
I appreciate your concerns regarding appendix carry. As an ER doc at a Trauma Center we see negligent discharge gunshot wounds frequently. All of the pelvic/proximal thigh have lived, some with significant morbidity as their femoral artery and vein get destroyed. In statistics this may be a selection bias, because if they get to me our team is amazing at trauma resuscitation. In an austere environment or any significant distance from a Trauma Center any GSW to pelvis or proximal thigh will be a bad day. As an aside I think we were running around Ft. Bragg in the 80's at the same timeframe.
Your argument against the Shadow is the same argument that all 1911s should be Series 80 models. No thanks. Series 70 1911s are just fine and perfectly safe.
And his "laziness" counterargument is simply false. There is no "engineering" that will make a Series 80 trigger as good as a Series 70. Pretravel or creep is inherent / required for Series 80 function. In terms of equalizing pull weight, the alternatives (lighten the sear spring and/or change sear geometry, increasing likelihood of ND; or lighten the trigger spring further, increasing likelihood of failure to reset) are much worse than the risks with a Series 70.
As I came across this video, my Shadow 2 compact was nestled safely on my hip. It is my favorite carry gun. I also have a P-01. By the time I paid for the optic cut, Cajun trigger parts, front sight to co-witness and a porting job, I had more money in it than I paid for my Shadow 2 compact. I use a Shadow 2 in competition, so holding the hammer between my thumb and index finger to lower it is something I was already very practiced at. Being so used to the grip of the Shadow 2, I found the slightly different size and shape of the P-01 grip much less to my liking. I have the same slide-stop thumb rest on both Shadows. I carry the compact with the hammer half-cocked and no worries, as I have watched several people hammer on their hammer without breaking the the sear or getting it to drop as well as drop testing from shoulder height to a concrete floor. I have never found the skinny safety levers engaged when carrying, though I did install an extra power safety spring in both Shadows. I can respect your choices, but am happy with mine as well.
@@ChaohsiangChen I think you have that relationship back to front. From the Colt CZ Group Wikipedia article: "On 11 February 2021 the European company announced the acquisition of the Colt Holding Company (the parent company to the Colt's Manufacturing Company from the US) for $220 million, enabling further expansion into the U.S. market."
@enscroggs Words from the attendees of 2024 shot show are that the Colt team replaced much of the original CZ USA crew. Colt was very good at politics, better than they are making guns.
@ChaonsiangChen This aligns with what I’ve heard and seen too. Despite CZ buying Colt, Colt seems to be taking the lead on US operations. There are even S2C’s hitting peoples hands recently with CT (Colt HQ) roll marks as opposed to KS (CZ-USA HQ) roll marks.
Such a wise carry option but the even more safer carry option is to carry a Cannon safe with a biometric/combination/keyed lock with a chamber flag lock in the safe. I've never had an ND for the many years I've been carying. Don't forget that Cannon offers an NRA member discount, God bless
There is a video called "Shadow 2 Compact - Drop Safe?" the guy hammers on the hammer (seemingly with the hammer all the way down) and it doesn't even touch the primer. Then he put in an extended firing pin and repeated the test, it made contacted with the primer. So as long as you don't put an extended firing pin in, it's drop safe.
its actually hilarious people will go and spend 1300-2000 on a pistol and have no fucking clue what makes it safe/unsafe. listening to internet rumors instead of watching a guy smack it with a hammer and nothing happening.
Came here to say the same thing. I saw that very same video and the dude really whacked that hammer hard and the firing pin did not touch the primer (w/ the factory firing pin. With the extended aftermarket ones, a whole different ballgame).
You telling me that inertial firing pin's are safety features? _Whaaaaaaa???_ I thought it was so they could use $0.0005 less metal and get rich off the profits.
I have a C2 currently, also have a P-01 that's optic milled. Love them both, but really considering a shadow 2 compact for EDC, I just don't know that I honestly need it lol...
There's a few RUclips videos out there of guys banging the cz shadow 2 compact hammer with a mallet. They could not make the gun fire. The only time they could do that was when there was an extended firing pin. But with the stock firing pin they could not cause the round to go off. In addition, staccatos dont have a firing pin block either... so...with that being said I plan on carrying my shadow 2 compact, and probably buying a P01 as well and sending it to impact machine for red dot milling. Why not have both?
Yeah...this is BS. I've talked to the gunsmiths at Cajun Gun Works, and they cracked up when I mentioned this as an "issue" for not carrying the Shadow 2 (compact or full size). Bottom line is it takes a tremendous amount of force to break the hammer, safety, or sear on these. A ton more force than any drop can do. They said you can take a hammer and beat on a fully cocked hammer and that thing still won't break (easily anyway). So if drops are your concern for carry safety, you're fine with this. Even with the safety off, and you drop it, you have to break the sear for the hammer to make contact with the pin...which is also super strong. If you're worried about breaking that many things before the gun fires, you're sorta worrying about the wrong safety aspects of carry.
The only thing I will agree with him about the Shadow 2 is that the safety is REALLY mushy. I don't know if that can be fixed, but I'd be interested in having someone make it more tactile, like a 1911. But yeah, if you carry a Glock and you complain about the ineffectiveness of safeties on other guns, I don't know what to tell you.
CZ should Thank Cajun Gun Works for making their "Rough Around The Edges Pistols" really Top Notch Firearms! It's amazing how many Quality Control Issues CZ Pistols have when they leave the factory. And I'm quoting Cajun Gun Works David Millan!
@@TheGV50hes obviously going to say that to encourage customers to buy his after market parts for more than just lighter springs and refined hammer. Less than 10 years ago most CZs were considered cheap eastern European guns.
The firing pin block/drop safe issue has been debunked already. There are videos on here where czarmorer hammers the hammer (literally) trying to get a primer strike and he couldn't even get it to dent. Shadow 2's are drop safe as long as you don't run an extended firing pin. Per the user manual you should carry half cocked no safety
Incorrect. All marketing and damage control. Sir Isaac Newton confirmed many years ago that, absent a physical barrier, that gun will absolutely fire if stuck from the correct angle. In the published tests the hammers and sears didn't break. I'm the real world, hammers and sears can break, and it could be yours that does.
@@officerdailey but it hasnt happened, youre telling this guy hes incorrect based on youre opinion of what COULD happen. people have LITERALLY smacked the ass end of shadow 2s and nothing has happened.......youd have a higher likelihood of loading a factory double charged round, are you going to go weight each and ever round based on what COULD happen?
If you cannot get it to fire after hammering on it directly. Then mechanically it is perfectly safe. Though I do agree with Mac that the engineering looks lazy aka streamlined.
I love my CZ Shadow 2 compact and it is my go to and daily carry. It's a bit thick but so am I. As far as the worry warts go, anything can happen and whatever you use it can malfunction. Stop the CZ hate! If you hold and shoot one you will love it! But if you are a nervous nelly, Carry a gun in a box, keep the mag in your glove compartment and the bullets in the box under the seat. Do you feel safe now???
The firing pin block was left out of the Shadow 2 and SPO1 models to enhance the trigger pull because they are competition models. It just carried over to the compact/carry model.
I carry a Jericho 941r. It isnt the most comfortable to carry but i shoot it well as it is my favorite pistol. I say carry what you shoot best, but thats just my opinion
I don't necessarily carry what I shoot the best, bit I do have a minimum accuracy requirement for my carry pistols. Once a gun meets that threshold, then I can consider other things. Currently my go-to is a fist generation M&P 40. Barely squeaks by in the accuracy department, meets everything else I want in terms of capacity, reliability, and presence of an accessory rail.
These are some of the same reasons I went back to carrying my made in Germany, two-tone Sig P228. By far the safest gun I own for daily carry, has great ergonomics, reliable, accurate & shoots amazingly well for a 30-year-old gun, and it looks great. RDS on a pistol is not necessary for me, so I'm good with my "old school" double action/single action Sig.
I started my CC journey about 6 years ago. Your original PO-1 video is what i loved. Ive since carried other stiker fired guns and have had a good experience but always reverted back to the po1. Its perfect.
The CZ P-01 is also my first choice for a compact DA/SA carry gun. If you spend the money you save over the Shadow 2 compact at Cajun Gun Works, you won't miss out on much. I did the same thing with an SP-01 Tactical after I already owned a Shadow 2 and was surprised at the results. It turned out to be an amazing shooter. I was able to install all of the parts myself too. My Dad loved it so much I had to give it to him, though, so I don't have it anymore.
I also own a CZ P-01, but with all the factors you laid out, I landed on the HK P2000 LEM. With the double action LEM trigger, you get the safety benefits of DA/SA with the same consistent trigger pull that you’d get on a striker fired gun. The P2000 is pretty lightweight, ergonomic and there’s no safety/decocker to get in the way. It’s an extremely reliable platform, and you can find quality used ones for $600. Very underrated, I think more people would like it if they knew about it.
I love to see a healthy dialog on this subject. I got a lot smarter reading the back and forth comments. Mac, if that was your goal , you succeeded admirably.
Interesting and thank you. My wife was just handling one today and neither one of us can rack the slide easily because of the rails and the low profile of the slide. Osteoarthritis in the hands, can’t grip the real estate well enough. We did not disassemble the gun in the store, so it was good to see what you explained. She will continue to carry her Wilson Combat 1911 Professional. Best Regards
my dad has arthritis in his hands and cant rack the slide on a lot of guns either. We got it optics cut and put a red dot on it and now its got plenty of grip space to rack the slide.
Best grip stippling on any pistol. I carry the 45Shield and that grip is SOLID even after shooting for an hour in Florida during the atmospheric soup they call "Summer".
@@rl2862 Miami is different than the panhandle. It's not nearly as bad down there as up here. Up here the humidity hits 93% in late April or Early May and stays there until late September early October. It only excursion is to 99%. Miami gets less humidity than we do here.
I carry a CZ 75 Compact daily. I was in the LGS and saw it sitting there and just was instantly drawn to check it out. The moment I held it, I knew I had to buy it. It's at just over 1000 rounds without a single hiccup. It's a nail driver too, I just put rounds where I aim.
For me, it's been a CZ75 compact. No decocker or rail. Night sights and fourteen rounds. Carried the pistol for 8 or ten years. Zero problems. Beyond reliable. A little heavy for a compact but solid steel and rugged as hell.
It's weird to me that they still haven't done a 75/P-07 compact that is optics ready and has a decocker. That would be my ideal handgun. Of course you can always send a 75 or P-07 slide off to get milled which is fine but it's an extra cost.
Going to try a CZ P 09 compact as a carry option, have gone back to handguns that have a manual safety. I carry strong side all the time, no appendix carry for me. Double/single with safety of striker fired WITH a manual safety!
Same for me, about 5 o’clock. My carries are either DA/SA with no manual safety, or single-action with manual safety. I have a P320 with no safety, but it’s a full-sized nightstand gun. And I have a Ruger PC Max, no safety, for pocket carry that sits in a safe - to be replaced by the S&W Bodyguard 2.0 with manual safety.
As always, great video Tim - Thanks! In terms of your carry preference, always wondered what happened to your P-01 and P-01 Omega. Despite all the newer offerings you visited/carried subsequently (both hammer and striker fired), it's nice to see your earlier P-01 carry criteria and decision still holds up.
Tip for CZ reassemably: Push slide on so it is flush with the rear, insert pin most of the way, then move slide back another 1/8" (so the little notches line up) and pop the pin the remaining 10% of the way in. If you try and line it up with the notch and start the insertion of the slide stop / slide release at the same time, there is a not insignificant chance that your barrel will not be in the proper location. The reason that you want to make sure that the barrel fully into its lock-up position is because it is possible to insert the slide stop / slide release incorrectly if it's far enough out of battery. You basically end up in a situation where the slide stop cross pin is in front of the barrel locking lug, rather than going through it, which prevents the slide from going all of the way forward. Good luck!
I just picked up a cz75d compact PCR and absolutely love it and to echo your thoughts those are the same reasons I didn't buy the shadow 2 compact. Great video well explained.
Glad you mentioned the issues with ambi-1911's. I stopped carrying them years ago for the same reason - many times they became unlocked during carry. Not sure why so many manufacturers consider consider ambi on a 1911 to be an upgraded feature. For me - they either need to be changed out or I won't buy the gun.
@lancedooley7558 320's aren't junk, people just have no fucking clue what it's good at. It's a big bulky wannabe P226 that fails at mimicking it in most ways. That being said, it's phenomenal as a custom/target pistol. Virtually any build a handgun could have, you could replicate it and optimize it to the max. That being said, as a practical duty handgun, dogshit
@@Sig_P229the only complaint I’ve ever had with mine is how easy some of the springs are to accidentally bend when removing the one piece grips, but it’s literally a two dollar spring and five minutes of work to fix. 229s (especially now that optic slides are available) are just about perfect carry guns.
I thought the firing pin was inertia and if the hammer was resting on it the firing pin would not protrude until hit hard enough to over travel and hit the primer like the Beretta 92 and many more. What I carry is the CZ-75 PCR basically the SPO1 without the rail and is even better for concealed carry due to the slightly slimmer profile. The Czech police use them and the SP-01 also.
You are correct but that was not discussed. Sometimes it comes down to just needing to make a video. I mean the Shadow 2 is safe to carry. However, a lot of viewers just went in straight panic mode.
I love DA/SA, I’m just objectively faster out of the holster to first shot, or even out of the holster all the way up to 3 shots with a striker fired pistol. It’s not a skill issue, I shot competition for years with a Beretta 92, even winning occasionally. A shorter, lighter trigger is always faster, and the first to put shots on target almost always wins the fight.
I had the same issue with one of my 1911’s with the safety getting swept off. Someone said “it has a grip safety” yes it does but it also has a very short light single-action trigger pull and to me that’s just a little nerve racking.
Says it’s cheaper yet sends it to Cajun gun works. Carried a po1 for years switched to the sc2, won’t look back. Practice basic gun safety you’ll be fine.
Right on! My CZ P-01 Omega rocks! One the very best handguns in my collection. I like 1911’s so I converted mine to a manual safety because I like carrying cocked and locked. Not for everyone granted, but with my training it works for me.
@@K-bob_45I vote USP, I specifically got them because of the glove issue, but it depends if I carry them or the folding Glock due to absolute concealment.
A few years ago you put out a video stating the CZ P01 was your new choice for carry. Then you did a video on the LTT 92 compact. Two great options for sure!
The P01 is not half the price if you prefer to mount an optic. You have to send it out to get milled, then cerakote it, and then finally get an optimized trigger job.
I wish it had a decocker instead of a safety myself I`ve been thinking about blue loctite on the safety. Not worried in the slightest about carrying it half cocked and don't plan to carry it drunk so manual decock isnt that big of a deal to me.
I have a CZ P-01 OMEGA, I had it optics cut for a Holosun 507k, and it is by far my favorite pistol to shoot and to carry. I have a Staccato C2 (no optics/ early model) I am far more accurate with that CZ, I'm sure mine was built on a weds. I wish they had not discontinued them! Now a base model P-01 is almost 800 bucks!
I bought a P01 Omega on a whim because I wanted a DA/SA pistol and Palmetto State had them on clearance for like $500. I just wanted a range toy, and ended up carrying it for over a year. That gun was seriously overlooked, it was so much better than I expected.
Last year CZ lowered the price on most of their handguns. The MSRP of the P01 is now $649 but can sometimes be found lower. The issue is availability since CZ imports these in "batches". Buyers need to jump on them when available.
I went from a Sig P365 to a S&W CSX..love the feel of the CSX and very easy to conceal...love the all aluminum blend frame..people have complained about the trigger but I have had no problems with mine..sweet little pistol
Just want to point out a few things. 1. A couple of channels have already tested the firing pin "drop test" by hitting the hammer when its fully down very hard with a Mallet and it does NOT touch the bullet primer.. also you talked about dropping the gun and it going off, then you talked about how you see competitors drop guns all the time.... and how many of the competitors guns fire, and they have their hammers all the down?.. Unless it has an extended firing pin its not gonna fire from dropping, even if the sear breaks.
For the added safety, I install the LTT striker control device (it allows you to put your thumb on the back of the slide while holstering and prevents the striker from moving even if the trigger gets depressed) on all my EDC Glocks. It's easy to install and use. And it doesn't interfere with the operation of your pistol.
@@ChaohsiangChen They're not expensive, and I had Cajun in stall it. With a high end 1911, the internal parts are properly hand fit by the factory. To get another trigger in it, I would want Staccato to do it so it's properly fit... but that could take forever, assuming they would even do it.
I have manually lowered the hammer on my double action guns without the coppers thousands of times as long is it going in the right direction and be careful I’ve never had a problem
Just your opinion. I’ve carried series 70 colt for years just got to know what your carrying will continue to my shadow 2 compact. Been carrying a pistol for 50 years 45 of them as a cop. Got old had to switch to 9mm because of recoil.
Great video. I wanted to find a SA/DA gun for appendix carry and picked up the PO1 Omega and was hooked and bought it on the spot from the local gun store. I agree with your assessment of the shadow 2. I couldn’t afford to buy it but after watching this video I don’t feel to bad.
Any pistol with an extra light trigger/safety should not be carried for edc or if you are going to carry something with a competition level trigger make sure you are highly trained and carry it in a holster with completely covered trigger.
You highlighted one of my pet peeves of many holster manufacturers. A properly designed / manufactured holster for a 1911 should, imho, FORCE the safety up into the safe position when holstering the handgun...thus it is also impossible for the safety to ever be inadvertently disengaged while it is in the holster. It's something I always looked for when buying holsters for handguns with external manual safeties.
Interesting. What brands do you like? I'm carrying a 1911 when hiking in a Kenai chest holster and you can flip the safety off if you're not paying attention. It's a little different than urban/EDC but I'm curious what holsters are out there that do manipulate the safety.
Good points and let's reflect that 20 years ago G19 orG26 was a compact carry unless you wanted a 32acp. I almost bought a DWX Compact it was more sleek and seemed lighter than the Shadow2 Compact and after a lot of thought I realized that I don't want to spend that much money on a pistol that will invariably get a lot of holster wear and summer humidity and I'm proficient with my other carry guns and I bought a full size DWX with an SRO for range use and couldn't be happier
As much as I love CZs, I still believe that the Beretta PX4 Storm is the superior pistol. I carry a unmodified PX4 Storm Compact Type G in 9mm every day and it just works great for me.
Great pistol since you love the rotating barrel design. You should try a Grand Power K100 or Q100. You don't need to modify anything on their triggers.
@@michaelstjohn6086 SRT is amazing, but the px4 ltt trigger bar reset is insanely short, doesn’t even need a match hammer like the 92 to get that nice click. SIGs are definitely better when it comes to holster and aftermarket accessories, PX4s are still orphans 😜
I understand this video is intended to highlight IF you would carry a Shadow 2 compact. I completely agree with your decision to stick with the P01 for a carry as do a lot of people. You absolutely had to know you were going to get called out for not even mentioning the P07. No hate, MAC. I watch your videos for a reason.
17:25 speaking on dropping firearms, it happened to me today. Taking it out of my gun safe and I moved a lil to fast turning around and it hit the ground, thankfully it was not chambered. But I now understand your point for sure
You have got to be rail thin to hide that. I have an S2 and would not dream of carrying it with any real confidence in it being "concealed". Hell, a P01 will print if I don't wear a hoodie.
I totally agree. I would love to see a micro compact or even sub compact CZ 75 type, optic cut, DA/SA with decocker only and a light rail. That would be about the perfect carry gun for me.
As someone who owns one of these here is my opinion. The lack of a firing pin block is a non issue for me. Carry it with the hammer down at half cock. The hammer isnt touching the firing pin and its already been tested and proven that the firing pin doesnt have the mass/inertia to ignite a primer if its dropped even in perfect drop conditions (straight down onto the muzzle). If you do manage to drop it directly on the hammer and the sear "breaks," that breakage alone would absorb a significant amount of energy leaving very little to be transferred to the firing pin. The safety lever concerns are valid but fixable. There is a detent but the spring is weak. You can get a stiffer spring and fix that issue. A regular cz75 safety detent spring will do. I think they made it weaker because of how low profile the lever is. You can also get a regular size safety lever. Yeah its not optimal to be "fixing" things that shouldnt need fixing but it is what it is. The decocking thing is overblown. Yes there is a chance for an ND but I'm not making a sandwich when i do it. The same way i have the gun pointed in a safe direction as I'm chambering it, I can safely lower the hammer with full awareness that the gun is loaded. Firmly hold the hammer and lower it. Its not brain surgery. Unless you have the finger strength of a toddler you have little to worry about.
Still, having to carefully go from full to half cock EVERY time you first chamber a round to carry is such a massive invitation for complacency and an eventual mistake. I agree the other concerns are negligible or likely even impossible, but having a mechanical decocker eliminates hundreds if not thousands of improbable dice rolls
I’m a contractor I have a 2 door Silverado v8. I love the engine on it. When I heard there was a new corvette with a similar v8 i bought one. In the end it is not good for construction work. Both have a 2 doors v8 Chevy products but don’t buy it to expensive. Chevy does not talk to me any More…😂❤
On thing - yeah the P01 is $600 for the gun $180 for an optics cut from primary arms CGW trigger kit $300 Now it’s the same price as the Shadow 2 compact. I shoot the full size in competition but will skip the compact. The complaints re: it having a safety is silly and yeah the lack of FP safety is due trigger feel. They weren’t trying to recreate the P01.
I fully agree that the Shadow 2 Compact is less than ideal for carry. After disassembling the CZ75 TS2 (mostly same internals) I found all sorts of things that scream "competition only" and make it terrible for carrying. The safety lever being too easy to flip is just one of many, as you mentioned here. At 21:06 you said "there's no real detent" in reference to the safety levers. There's actually two safety detents...one on the left side that has a spring, and a stationary detent on the right side (recently uploaded a full assembly video). If your gun has no tangible click when switching the safety back and forth, the spring may be too weak. One part of the design that I don't like is that you have to take out the sear and ejector housing to get to the safety detents (safety lever pin holds the sear and ejector housing), so replacing the detent spring with a stronger one would be a lot of labor, unlike the 1911 where it's just a few minutes.
Quick question: You say “letting the hammer rest on the firing pin”. Does the gun not have a rebounding hammer? And the reason for leaving off some of those safety features is that the shadow 2 is a match gun, it’s not really a CC gun, as much as CZ might also advertise it for that.
His criticisms of the safety lever are valid but the others are overblown. Manual decocking isn't an issue if your IQ is above room temperature. The lack of a firing pin block is semi valid but others have tested this exact model and have shown it won't go off even if you dropped it straight onto the muzzle.
I own a Shadow II, but it is the full size target pistol. I bought it as a range gun, not a carry gun. I agree about the risk of lowering the hammer. This is the same feature that plagued the early CZ75 as well. I was told the DA hammer feature existed so a soldier could double-tap those hard East Bloc pistol primers, not so he could carry it hammer down.
A few things to consider. I currently EDC the shadow 2 compact. 1). Even though the P01 is a "fraction" of the cost of the s2c, once you Cajunize it and add the optics cut the price will be around the same. 2) You only engage the safety in SA mode , not in half cock mode (as per CZ instructions). 3) To decock to half cock I put the edge of my thumb in front of the firing pin. Seems safer than the pinch method. It's not a big deal once you practice it some. 4) The reason CZ said they didn't add the firing pin block was to keep the trigger smooth. Same as the Shadow 2. Same as 1911s. Good video. I agree s2c isn't for everyone. Regardless CZ guns are great.
20:35 - cz shadow 2 compact manual: "Since the trigger mechanism has been specifically adjusted, it is possible to move the safety onto the "SAFE" position even if the hammer is placed on the safety notch. In this case, however, it is strongly not recommended to engage the safety because the trigger mechanism might be damaged when cocking the hammer by force or pulling the trigger. If damage to the trigger mechanism occurs, let it be repaired by a certified gunsmith."
MAC; The 1911 has an inertial firing pin; meaning the pin is shorter than its channel. So, hammer down all the way does not make the firing pin protrude past the breechface. If the Shadow compact V2 has an inertial firing pin, then the concern about having the hammer down resting on the firing pin goes away, completely. Check the CZ to see if it has an inertial firing pin. If it does not, then your concerns are valid.
Hey RUclips gun tubers. Please for God sake base your opinions off your own testing and not Internet lore. It’s amazing how many of the tubers are saying the same thing about this pistol
Try the one I carry. It's the CZ75 D PCR. It has the same CZ controls including a decocker and the light weight aluminum chassis. I put a pair of blue shadow 2 style grips on mine. Love it!
I think it's a solid way of viewing what and why one would or would not carry a specific gun. From a safety standpoint, I think it's a solid argument, especially when we are talking about EDC and we all know, we have all gotten complacent at some time or another on something we shouldn't. Me personally, I carry striker fired pistols, but I do always make note to look at my holster when I intend to holster my gun, which imo, is the best thing you can do to make sure that trigger is clear until it's fully seated in the holster.
The shadow 2 compact is still way safer than a glock and a p320. Idk why everyone makes such a big fuss about the firing pin block and then carry series 70 1911s. I get the complaint, but it's coming from people who use much more dangerous guns.
Thanks MAC for sharing that information I do carry a CZ P-01 Omega great firearm period..I had been looking at the CZ shadow 2 compact..but now I’m going to really rethink this I may go with a new CZ 75bd…take care..
These videos are important because they are sending a message to the manufacturer what can/should be improved upon. RUclipsrs like MAC are basically doing modern journalist's work.
This is the correct answer. Mac is wrong, i hope he has the humility to admit it. I have issued a challenge by way of experiment which as an American youtuber should be very easy: Make a Shadow2/base75 fire a primed case by dropping it. Spoiler alert: you'll never get it right.
This video puts in question MAC. I think he was super premature on his analysis of it as a carry gun because this gun is absolutely phenomenal, but generally, I love his videos.
Tip for CZ dis-assemble: if you put the hammer in half-cock you can then simply push the slide back and it will stop at the mark correctly for the cross pin to be pushed out.
Didn’t know that - thanks for sharing!
Thank you!!!
You beat me to the comment.😂

Yup. Easy peasy.
MAC the staccato doesn’t have a firing pin block either, and you carried that.
Yeah I don't get it lost me AZ a fan goodnight
That’s because he needed something sensationalist to make a video about
Don’t bring up the 1911 with him, he will probably say that he loves the platform, but there are more modern guns that have replaced it’s purpose.
You’re comparing apples to oranges
Any 1911/2011 carried as designed (cocked and locked) have a pretty well thought out lock work that prevents the hammer from falling and actually reaching the firing pin without both that frame and grip safety being disengaged and trigger being pressed.
I have carried the P07 for 3 years now. I really think it’s one of the best handguns out there
I love mine, I trust it with my life
Did you get it Cajunized?
Agreed! Certainly an overlooked handgun. It's also what I carry along with my pdp compact
@Lexman00 @JNOSNOW I just compared my p07 with stock internals to another one with a full Cajun trigger and my double action was way smoother just from shooting it a lot. The only noticeable difference was the shorter reset
@@Lexman00 I cajunized my P01 and the trigger return spring gave out after about 1k rounds. I'd just leave it stock tbh.
I don't remember where I heard, but the Shadow 2 Compact is not replacing the P-01. Just like the Shadow 2 didn't replace the SP-01.
It's a shame they discontinued the P01 Omega though, that thing is nice.
P01 is a NATO pistol. Not going anywhere and its a CZ OG like the 75 now

Series 70 is for the range, series 80 is for carry. You would have heard him say that if you watched the video
@otterconnor942 yet, he admitted he carried a Staccato all winter, which is series 70 😅
@@JohnOgren Doubt he did that appendix though.

Just turn your gun in to the atf. That's the safest carry method.
I hope you have the spring tucked in your other boot. Can't be too safe.
@theredexpresss6629 Exactly, as evidenced by sp many of the clueless posters here who actually think this is some sort of "cost cutting" by CZ.
Came here to say the same thing. I saw that very same video and the dude really whacked that hammer hard and the firing pin did not touch the primer (w/ the factory firing pin. With the extended aftermarket ones, a whole different ballgame).

@@andrewstromfeld312 that could apply to any firearm.
@@rcwarrior868 exactly my point... Murphy's Law ✌️

After seeing this video I've sold my SII Compact and am now carrying a flintlock pistol, unloaded of course.

The P01 is not half the price if you prefer to mount an optic. You have to send it out to get milled, then cerakote it, and then finally get an optimized trigger job.
That’s easily solvable. Don’t get a milled for an optic.

I bought a P01 Omega on a whim because I wanted a DA/SA pistol and Palmetto State had them on clearance for like $500. I just wanted a range toy, and ended up carrying it for over a year. That gun was seriously overlooked, it was so much better than I expected.
You can find a regular p-01 for 500-600 new online pretty easy. I believe family firearms currently has them in stock and are asking $550.
Last year CZ lowered the price on most of their handguns. The MSRP of the P01 is now $649 but can sometimes be found lower. The issue is availability since CZ imports these in "batches". Buyers need to jump on them when available.

MAC: I don't like changing parts

Great video. I wanted to find a SA/DA gun for appendix carry and picked up the PO1 Omega and was hooked and bought it on the spot from the local gun store. I agree with your assessment of the shadow 2. I couldn’t afford to buy it but after watching this video I don’t feel to bad.
Video starts at 14:00
Lots of info but man some people like the sound of their own voice.
Why not the P-07? lightweight, decocker, removable backstraps, and functions flawlessly.
this is why p01 omega still my best carry gun for me 😊😊
Any pistol with an extra light trigger/safety should not be carried for edc or if you are going to carry something with a competition level trigger make sure you are highly trained and carry it in a holster with completely covered trigger.
Well it’s DA too not SA only, so a holster that did this wouldn’t work for anyone running DA/SA
The holster I have did at one time, but as it's worn it no longer forces it into the locked position.
I'd rather have a holster that flips the safety off upon drawing outward
Good information you just saved me 1200 bucks my carry is a CZ75 D compact which I like, no need to add additional risks.
As much as I love CZs, I still believe that the Beretta PX4 Storm is the superior pistol. I carry a unmodified PX4 Storm Compact Type G in 9mm every day and it just works great for me.
For DA/SA an LTT CC px4 is magic, also the p229 with SRT
@@TheRancor53 I have both 229 226 with srt, is the Px4 really that good? I have wanted a reason to get one for a long time! help a guy out lol
Great pistol since you love the rotating barrel design. You should try a Grand Power K100 or Q100. You don't need to modify anything on their triggers.
I bounce back and forth between a px4 sub-c and a g43 depending on clothing. Great little gun that gives bulldog vibes
1911s have grip and Manuel safeties and with the trigger guarded to me that seems the better solution or just get a 229 legion with optic cut
I've been carrying a full size Shadow 2 for years. To each their own.
You have got to be rail thin to hide that. I have an S2 and would not dream of carrying it with any real confidence in it being "concealed". Hell, a P01 will print if I don't wear a hoodie.
If it works for you it works for you!
On the Staccato safety: Why not a holster that only allows to holster when the safety is up and you can only push it down outside the holster?
I totally agree. I would love to see a micro compact or even sub compact CZ 75 type, optic cut, DA/SA with decocker only and a light rail. That would be about the perfect carry gun for me.
You are describing the P-01 after an optic cut at a gunsmith.
@@TortillaChip521 More like a P-01 RAMI
Micro compact is too small for a traditional DA/SA mechanism
Did you say improved return of the 2075 RAMI?
@@detroitvseverybody3813 The S&W 380 Bodyguard with it's double action hammer or the single action CSX would beg to differ.
Excellent information! Although this could have been a 5 minute video and provided the same intel. But I love this channel.
Don't forget to buy some trigger return springs (the only reason I haven't bought a hammer fire Cz)
Wrong
you can convince yourself of anything, that's fine.....
way to much fumbling, I'll pass, there are much better choices, good luck!
@@southtownsjoe32 correct
Still, having to carefully go from full to half cock EVERY time you first chamber a round to carry is such a massive invitation for complacency and an eventual mistake. I agree the other concerns are negligible or likely even impossible, but having a mechanical decocker eliminates hundreds if not thousands of improbable dice rolls
I’m a contractor I have a 2 door Silverado v8. I love the engine on it. When I heard there was a new corvette with a similar v8 i bought one. In the end it is not good for construction work. Both have a 2 doors v8 Chevy products but don’t buy it to expensive. Chevy does not talk to me any More…😂❤
On thing - yeah the P01 is $600 for the gun
$180 for an optics cut from primary arms
CGW trigger kit $300
Now it’s the same price as the Shadow 2 compact.
Takes less than 2 minutes on a s2c to get the LH safety detent and spring out...not sure what a gunsmith would charge for that.
Quick question: You say “letting the hammer rest on the firing pin”. Does the gun not have a rebounding hammer?
And the reason for leaving off some of those safety features is that the shadow 2 is a match gun, it’s not really a CC gun, as much as CZ might also advertise it for that.
Oh I can't wait to watch this. Because I want this as my carry gun
Yeah, I'm still getting it as my carry gun. All his reasons not to carry it don't dissuade me.
I bought one and carry it every single day and am completely in love with it. To each their own.
His criticisms of the safety lever are valid but the others are overblown. Manual decocking isn't an issue if your IQ is above room temperature. The lack of a firing pin block is semi valid but others have tested this exact model and have shown it won't go off even if you dropped it straight onto the muzzle.
Look up the video "Shadow 2 Compact - Drop Safe?" so long as you don't swap the firing pin with an extended one you should be good.
@@InkwellFoto He wasn't trying to dissuade you. He was talking about his decision.
WOW ⚠️
Very well presented.
Loved my late 2075 RAMI
Loved my late 75 preB
Loved my late 97
Will always keep my vz52
Great video, Tim, as always!! I too like my P-01. Maybe your next video down the road should be your optic choice, post slide cut on P-01.
I'm going to use a EPS or EPS Carry on the gun I believe. I'm into the close emitter RDS's.
This is the safest way unless you're a competition guy that has to be hammer down
20:35 - cz shadow 2 compact manual:
"Since the trigger mechanism has been specifically adjusted, it is possible to
move the safety onto the "SAFE" position even if the hammer is placed on the safety
notch. In this case, however, it is strongly not recommended to engage the safety
because the trigger mechanism might be damaged when cocking the hammer by
force or pulling the trigger. If damage to the trigger mechanism occurs, let it be
repaired by a certified gunsmith."
If it does not, then your concerns are valid.
it does, there are videos of people smacking them with hammers and nothing happens, internet rumor strikes again.
@@theredexpresss6629 Then MAC is tilting at windmills.
Isn't the firing pin inertial? Does the firing pin really touch the primer with the hammer down?
Except there's nothing for cz to improve upon because this gun is not a P01, it's a Shadow 2 and it's design as intended.
This is the correct answer. Mac is wrong, i hope he has the humility to admit it. I have issued a challenge by way of experiment which as an American youtuber should be very easy: Make a Shadow2/base75 fire a primed case by dropping it.
Spoiler alert: you'll never get it right.
@@whiskeyactual. So it's a shitty design?
This video puts in question MAC. I think he was super premature on his analysis of it as a carry gun because this gun is absolutely phenomenal, but generally, I love his videos.
One of the very few channels that will focus on the importance of the unseen safety features.
You’ve convinced me that Cz P01 compact is a great pistol!
It is a Fantastic gun. Accurate, reliable, ergonomic.. Range, bedside, EDC. (Mic drop ....)
