- In this video I introduce the Wild Irish Low D whistle. This is a brand new whistle on the market.
Here is a link to McNeela's page for this whistle: mcneelamusic.com/wind/wild-lo...
Remember to select a whistle based on the appearance, playability, tone quality, volume, and other characteristics. The Wild Irish Low D has a medium volume, is slightly breathy, and requires moderate breath pressure to play well. The tone, while breathy is not chirpy.

You’re welcome.
Shaun Laverty did a review on the Wild Irish Low d on the tin whistle forum few days ago on this whistle too. I've now put my DeQuerely low F on the whistle market place for sale if anyone is interested. It's a really easy blower needs hardly any air at all.
Thanks for saying. Was that on Chiff and Fipple? Hope you are able to sell your DeQuerely low F soon. You putting the proceeds to another whistle?
@@LowDWhistle yes towards either Kerry Busker low G or C i love the Kerry whistles. Was umming an ahing over my lowG nightingale now but i think i'll keep that one for now. Just got my Kerry busker low f and i am so in love with his whistles now. The review is on facebook i left a link you may have to fetch it from banned links?
Thanks. I am also a huge fan of Phil Hardy’s whistles. I also like his style and to sit and listen to him just play around, as you and I have said before. I’ll find your review on Facebook. Cross links from competitors don’t seem to be easily accepted- as you say
@@markc1234golfI got a Kerry busker mezzo low A recently, it's a beast!
So fun.
Sorry for the misspeak. It’s Delrin and not Derlin.
Thank you, that's the first time I've actually seen that whistle and to my hearing the voice is quite similar to a clarinet or saxophone compared to other low Ds. I can understand it's appeal to you.
Looking forward to direct tone comparison.
Thanks. You've made me wish I still had a clarinet so I could add that into the comparison. I'll experiment to see if the sax is similar.
It is fine instrument so far!
I agree. It is nice
Very helpful comparison, thank you! The Howard is pretty much at my outside limit for reach and hole size, so I don’t think this whistle is an option for me-though the sound is lovely. It’s an interesting combination of airy and lyrical…
Lynne, good description of the tone. If the Howard is a stretch, this will be rough.
There is a whistle that is about $70, made of PVC but it looks really sweet. It’s black with a nice design and it’s made in Maine. It’s a very quiet Whistle, but the holes are really close together much closer than any of my other whistles it’s made by mountain Smith in Maine. It’s the one I bring with me when I’m gonna be somewhere where other people are around and they might not want to hear me play loudly.
I like the idea of the low D made by Whistle Smith, but have not ordered one. Did you get the offset holes, and if so what do you think about it? The Whistle Smith may answer the question of hole spacing that many of our friends have. I ordered a Goldfinch that should arrive in a couple weeks, and you have tempted me to order a Whistle Smith.
I would’ve liked to see the Dixon and the wild Irish hole size comparison you held it up and mentioned how close together they were but you didn’t really show it
Ooh - sorry about that. I’ll do a quick comparison video of that tomorrow. Thanks for asking.
When you say the difference between holes are you measuring with the end of the whistles together or the fipple together?
Thanks for asking. I was starting from the tip of the fipple downward.
Someone else had asked me to give some measurements. I know they won’t be exact, but I was going to do that today.
