We're going to be reviewing the 70mai dash cam Omni. This camera is a great choice for users who want a reliable camera that can handle a lot of tough weather conditions.
We'll be taking a look at the specs of the camera, as well as how it performs in the field. We'll also give you our opinion on whether or not the 70mai dash cam Omni is the best dashcam on the market!
Biggest drawback is that there's only one lens. If it's looking forward and you get rear ended or sideswiped, there's no video of that happening "in the act". Fun to swivel around, tho.
I actually like that the memory is only accessible via a designated mobile device or computer, precluding anyone from separating the owner from the vehicle long enough to remove a sim card or erase the footage. Traffic accidents are a concern in the US, but we also have to worry about interactions with law enforcement that are not always above boards. In the same vein, the swivel camera that will turn to face the driver or passenger window and record audio is a boon and it is somewhat stealthy. These are features ive been looking for. Still a little pricey, though.
If you think US law enforcement is not above board you have clearly never been to a country where the police are actually like that.

I know this might be hard to comprehend, but have you ever considered that there is nothing found wrong because there was nothing wrong to be found? Do you really think that a depts IA does a social media blast every single time they discipline an employee? They dont. There could be a revolutionary 100,000 cops fired across the nation by IA, and unless someone inside comes out and says something, its doubtful you would ever know, so you would assume it never happened.
If a dash cam cannot hold up to 200 degree temps. It's not worth it. I always have a problem with dash cams overheating in the front window.

I've been researching cams. The big boo boo seems to be the camera quality. In that you cannot read license plate numbers even with the best cameras. Have you reviewed any real world footage and can you read license plate numbers? Tanks

3 years ago in 2020 I bought 70Mai A800 and it is still as good as this new I see. Image quality is super and in daylight you can see everyones plates with 4k resolution!

I don't think that will go to well.
Unfortunately this company requires full access to your phone memory and this includes everything on your phone to access their app without doing so you can't access the cameras video or change any settings.
So does the RUclips app and many other apps on your phone...

@@marlmyster most apps don't require full access to information on your phone like this company does. You can let them have the access if you want to but I'll be retiring the model I have for one that's less intrusive.
Use a burner.. ..when playing with Chinese, hold many cards, in this case, have a few cheap cellphones handy that's not connected to anything else..
I think the rotating camera would fit my needs. Default camera position would be looking forward. For traffic stops, I'd turn it toward the driver's window to document the stop.
9:00 you missed the mark on the LTT review. Their review is based on what you would use the camera for IRL, for example... reading a number plate at night/day, definition and clarity of things during all lights, not taking selfies with your camera at night.
Agreed. This camera doenst look like it reads plates very well, just like LTTs. Color is irrelevant to the purpose of the cam. It could be BW for all that matters, but the *clarity* of things is the killer app. Based on this video, seems to be lacking.
I had dash camera. that gone! Now iam using my old smartphone as dash camera. Wonderful. No need to spend. Connect it to car port.

@@stierenmens4984 Can it start recording automatically when it detects power? That's my frustration with GoPro - I want it to begin recording in loop mode when it sees power from the USB. Cheap action cameras do this, but not gopro. ☹
Sure, but it can't monitor the car when it's parked during the night.
Concerned on the ability to capture clear videos of tampering say at nite since the quality seems low with low light.
Is the resolution enough to read license tags? I'm not convinced.
A good dash cam has to be able to capture details on license plates, very important!

I am always considering buying a dash cam. But the one thing that all have as an issue is the gaggle of wires needed for installation or just hanging in your view. Not sure why a unit cannot be designed that works with a rechargeable battery and eliminating at least some of the wires?
yeah either that or governments requiring cars to have dash cams like they did seat belts. HD cameras are cheap and the microphones they put in these are the bare minimum. Think of Tesla’s 360 cameras on every car (no i don’t have a Tesla but it’s the only thing i’m jealous of)
If I want to record an interaction with law enforcement, I would be concerned about having to say out loud, "Shoot Left" or "Shoot Right." 🙂

My husband installed one of these in my vehicle. I hardly notice that it is there. It keeps telling me that I have been driving for a long time and that I should take some rest, sometimes it states this as soon as I get into my vehicle and turn it on.
What if you use Insta 360 that records a 360 video- instead of this that in order to change the view you need to use your phone thus distraction from driving?
doesnt work in dash cams you need special software like park surveilance also insta 360 will overheat probably. id like to see insta 360 make a dedicated dashcam though they would dust any company
There's no real use of 360 degree in this dash cam if it can't record simultaneously. Even 2 cameras that can capture atleast 340 degrees would be a great sell. But the camera turning as per command is useless.
You get pulled over, and the officer at your window pointing at the camera:
Officer: What does that thing do?
You: Shoots at any direction i want following my voice command.
Officer: Wel.... I'm gonna let you off with a warning this time.. Have a great day sir / ma'am..

Appears to be almost perfect aside from no rear camera, I’m sure that will be a future option.
The goal of this camera's 360 degree feature is eliminate the need for a rear camera because this one records on all directions. Right? And when parked, the sensor moves towards any moving object.

I think this over complicates things. A fixed wide angle camera permanently front and rear makes more sense to me. I feel like someone would crash into me and it would be facing the wrong way. I also have zero trust in their privacy policy.

I hope folks remember the days of expensive radar detectors. They were basically targets “Hey!!! Please steal me!!!”. So, having parking surveillance is nice but at the same time, it is going to increase the likelihood that your car will be broken into and the dash am stolen. I had two to four radar detectors (I can’t remember for sure) stolen and in each case, it meant replacing broken windows, insurance claims, blah blah blah… generally a hassle to be avoided.
Yeah. This is a real expensive toy. You don't need to spend a ton of money to get a good dash cam. The one I have has 3 cameras, GPS, audio and records in 1080p. It is a mirror cam and if you mount them properly, it just looks like a regular mirror. You're right, this thing just screams STEAL ME! And yeah, the broken window and all the hassle id the worst part. These things are necessary today. My insurance has a discount if you have one, so I got one for the insurance break. You don't need to break the bank,mine is nice and the thing cost $150. Brand names and fancy looking cameras are unnecessary. Plus this things huge! Nothin "stealth" about this rig.And in the long run, you may have problems with the cops because if they see it they'll say it "impedes your vision" and ticket you. Cops don't like these things, especially the interior ones. Mine is low profile, with interior and audio and I haven't had a problem yet.
That kind of makes sense. But no one wants to try to steal a dashcam and risk being recorded by the thing they are trying to steal.
If everyone has dash cams then there will be no market for stolen dash cams.
Just add a good piece of Velcro, that way you can put it away when you like

My only question would be: how much heat can it handle during summer? Like how does this handle in temps up to - and over - 100 degrees Fahrenheit?

The Dashcam looked good in this video however when I clicked on the Amazon link to buy it, I noticed 58% satisfied customers... that's really a low customer rating for me to even consider buying it.

I did that to demonstrate it for the video. I have relocated it behind the rear view mirror. I probably still a menace though. LOL
Will a heated windshield also interfere with the GPS reading? I have the 70mai dash cam pro 521F. It won't pickup any signal in my wife's VW ID.4 because it has a heated windshield. It works fine on my f150 or even inside a house. But it will lose all GPS reading whenever it gets into the ID.4. I don't know if the x200 has better GPS reception or not?
Looks interesting. The 360 rotation is cool but one thing I'm unclear about though is rear recording... Would this be able to record the incident automatically if another car rear ended you or would you have to get another camera for the rear? has anyone tested this?
Since it rotates, no. By then even if it could detect the impact, it would be recording into the back _after_ the impact. It does not have dual cameras as you can see.
For a rear end accident, the forward view would provide solid documentation as to what you were doing at the time of the incident. The burden would be on the person who rear-ended you to prove that you were doing something wrong.
So you can wire it into your cars power supply, to have it monitor the surroundings 24/7. How much power does it consume?
Under “parking mode” (constant 12v power input) does this device has issues with it’s battery like with other dash cams?
Other dash cams get their battery heat from the sun damage when they are in charging / constant power feed, which is annoying.
While watching I noticed some areas you drove in looks familiar.. Im in tucson too and I love my A800S. Thinking about getting this dashcam someday!
5 second prior to the incident is to little.. at least 30 seconds is the best and 30 seconds after for a secure video with all the information recorded. That 5 seconds was a deal breaking for me on this camera.
Probably not prudent to use the word "shoot" as part of a command. Imagine and officer walked up to your door and he hears "shoot left".
It's cool but I still like having front and rear camera.
Can you manually turn it to record in the direction that you want? Then it would stay in that direction until you move it back?
I just ordered one. If I don’t hard hardwire it to my vehicle will it still have incident recording? Also how well does it show license plates? I noticed in your video I really couldn’t read anybody’s license plate? This is my first dashcam I’ve purchased so I’m really new to all of this technology. I mainly want it for recording races. And if someone was to hit my car or bump into my car while I’m away. Last question l, (sorry it’s a lot) but if I’m in the house and someone bumps into my car. Will the camera automatically turn to the area and start recording. And is the hardwire installing a requirement for this feature?
Yes, parking surveillance requires the hardwire kit installed. Otherwise the camera turns off when the vehicle is turned off. It does turn to direction of the disturbance, yes. It’s quality us good enough to see and read license plates.
@@MANSHED thanks! I ordered the hardwire kit. I really bought it for next car I’m getting however it will be a year until the car comes out. Would I be able to install it to my current car. And then in a year uninstall and reinstall it to the new car or should I just wait? I’m worried about it not sticking to the new cars windshield good enough after taking it off. Hi. Great insights. Could you please let us know the impact on car batter for paking survalaince. E.g. if i park the car for a month at the airport. How does that work. Is it constantly taking charge from my car's battery or it has some internal battery as well. How long of a parking survailance mode has an effect on car's battery. That is the major point of concern for me. Also if if i can connect it to a battery pack instead of the car's internal battery-is it a possibility?
I have tested a lot of car cams. VIOFO make the best 4K bang for the buck. They also read license plates at night.

Energy consumption with one or both of the parking security features on, Drains your battery in a few days.
And a simple thing as the coalition detection, what should be done with an accelerometer that doesn't use more then 2 to 3 mah , already makes this dashcam us about 200mAh/h in combinations with the 4 G module, Without the coalition detection and Motion detection, it just uses 10-20mAh/h including the 4G module.
So the nice advertisement of the motion detections are focusing on a feature that you can only use for a short period of time. Leave your car for 4 days and the changes is high that it won't start. Except if you have a smart car that just completely switched of the Omni.

It gets its power from your car battery when using the hardwire kit.
@@MANSHED It seems like there could be potential for the car battery to be completely drained over time. I would probably only run it while driving because of that. Another option would be if it could run from a removable battery for parking surveillance even though you already stated that it doesn't.

Can i access it if the car is being driven somewhere by other driver? All i see is hotspot which requires the car to be near you.
Is it getting a good video of the vehicle's plate number in front of you and the one on the other side which is going in the opposite direction? It is imperative that the dash cam have a clear recording of the plate numbers even the one that is parked after all your vehicle will be involved with anther vehicle hence clear video of the plate number is very important.

Unfortunately the 4G adapter only works in a handful of countries. To me 4G is a must as you want live feed…

Can you remote in to the vehicle via the data of the person's phone and watch the live video? And do you recommend the Dongar adapter that can obtain power from your dimmable rear view mirror? Some come with the 5 volt step down USB port.

huh? whats a "known retailer"? Amazon? Target? Are you under the impression if it broke in say, 9 months, Amazon would cover it? Cause they would NOT. you would have to go to 70mai
The bad part, is when you contact 70mai for anything. If you call them, you get a recording that says they're not available and to try later. Which means you have to email them. Then, they will want you to make a video of the issues, post it to RUclips and then send them a link to it. Then, you'll get some broken ass English reply that makes absolutely no sense

Hi, when your 70mai cam is hardwired to the car, is there any way to switch off power supply to the cam ? Reason is if I leave the car unused for more than a week, the cam may have used up my car battery.
the camera will stop drawing power automatically if the voltage from the battery starts to get too low.

The image resolution is not good enough. The picture is grainy and you can not read the licence plate exactly. Night vision not good enough.

I have two concerns. I carry a bike and getting stopped by police in a strange area. I sleep in my Prius when I travel.

yes you can. Just use your hand and rotate the camera in the direction you want it to record. It will stay there until your give it another command of you restart the camera.
You know, I really am disgusted that they did not tell us that we had to have Wi-Fi in the car do use this thing that is disappointing!
Now I’ve got one of two choices. I can give the car phone number and pay for that every month or I can get a hotspot on my phone and whether I’m in that car or another car or in my motorhome I’m paying for a hotspot that I don’t need except in the one car they didn’t bother to have any tech in It That is NOT in the description when they say all these functions they should tell you this thing has. But only at Set up you discover the Required Wi-Fi to perform. so I buy the thing I take it down and have it installed with the fuses. So now I see you must have Wifi and when you turn off the Car at the market or restaurant the Thing doesn’t work it shuts off. So no mentoring parking.

yes it connects via wifi and the recording time depends on the quality you record at. I'm getting about a week of driving.

What mounting options can be used if you want to move car to car?
You could install a base in each car on the windshield and then simply rotate the camera off the base and reconnect in 2nd car.
The night footage is not "Very good" - impossible to make out any details like signs, and forget completely about license plates. I could not even make them out in the daylight footage. Cool features, but at the end of the day, as bad as all the other dashcams out there.

If you want more storage it does, yes. This has no-removable memory.

some things you should be aware of before buying .
1. the footage of it detecting people and tracking people while parked is stock footage , this is a red flag , why did he not test the parking AI himself . the fact that he's using footage sent by the company shows collaboration between the two . this is not the only one , all reviews of of this product showing that same stock footage and not being tested independently are knowingly covering up the fact that parking AI does not work .
2. it's not the worlds first 360 motorized dash cam . i bought mine 10yrs ago and was looking to upgrade to the parking AI they claim to have.(mine is no longer made )
3. i paid $90 for mine , and a lot of the features that this camera has to be hardwired for came standard when plugged into a lighter socket , such as parking surveillance , motion detection , not draining your battery ,
4. no rear camera option .
5. other than the voice commands and warnings all the technology on this thing was out 10yrs ago.
If you feel you need a dashcam, then you're the problem. They are supposed to be for insurance purposes. Not to antagonise and then hind behind, or to put crashes on RUclips.
I bet all serving US military would be able to get these at a great price maybe even free 😮

@@proudasiangirl576 I was being facetious sorry, with all of the embedded spyware in certain smartphones, now security cameras and even telephone exchanges it would make sense that there is a potential security risk, as ex military myself, I can imagine these little cameras covertly recording when their GPS aligns with known US military installations then transmitting any footage back to whomever is controlling the device. Sneakier than sending balloons 🤷🏼♂️
Yeah, especially since this is a Chinese company and they have it in their by laws that their government gets a copy of ANY data the app/camera captures…no thanks!
