malik had quite the change of heart throughout his game. at first he is bitter and frustrated with altair, but soon finds reason to forgive him for his mistakes, and almost seems like a real friend. this is the first and best time in the ac franchise that a character has developed so much. he lost his brother and his arm, and at first, does what you would expect, and acts as antagonising as possible towards altair, but near the end, he does the unexpected, and refuses to believe that altair has anything to answer for. it is truly one of the most suprising and heartwarming character developements in gaming to this very day
+potassium gamer You also have to remeber that altiar changed alot too. He starts off as a ignorant prick, but as the game goes on he get alot more humble. I still think malik is awesome.
lemonvariable72 ikr? Character developement at its finest really. Black flags gameplay and graphics cant touch the badassery of altair and the amazing changes he and his fellow assassins go through
lemonvariable72 yeah, but ac1 was the best, ac4 was second in my opinion, then ac2. Only problem with ac2 is that you have to start a new game to replay each mission. I had fully upgraded ezio, and gotten most renovations done in monteriggioni, and then i saw the achievement for kicking a guard whilst on the flying machine. I was pissed that tuere was no replay option. Ac1 had it, and so did all the rest. Makes no sense

It's Feb, 2020. I'll turn 66 in 10 days. Over 10 years ago I retired and was brand new to gaming. My nephew got me started on it to give me something to do since I couldn't afford flying lessons or guitar lessons any more, and after a major heart attack, couldn't keep up with Kung Fu training. AC 1 was the first game I got involved with. I tried several others but they didn't hold my interest enough to get beyond the first few levels. AC grabbed my attention and I couldn't put down the PS3 controller! It took me 2 MONTHS to get through this game because I never played before (except a few very lame attempts at 1 or 2 others)! I made every mistake imaginable! I screamed at Altair for not doing what I trained him to do - always climbing up the side of a building with a ladder right next to him! And a bunch of other dumb stuff! But eventually I mastered the controls and actually learned strategy playing this game. Maybe I'll make a video of some of my strategies if I ever get a version of AC1 for PS4. Or if I start PC gaming as my nephew (same nephew) insists. We'll see!

I've always thought of it as repetitive. You go find a man, punch him, question him, kill him, go kill another guy, repeat. AC IV is my favorite because there are so many ways to accomplish a task.
+P4INKiller Not only that, but it's by far the most "artsy" and intellectual game of them all. The only other game that has at least some of the moral ambiguity of AC1 is Rogue. AC1 has by far the coolest story IMO because of the moral ambiguity, and a story with sub-stories within it that all follow a believable and satisfying arc. It also shows - from the very beginning - the relativity of "good" and "evil" within the AC world. What a great game. If the actual game were more polished and played better, it would be miles (pun intended) ahead of the other games.

AC1 was not a perfect gameplay but style, time period and setting gave perfect atmosphere to the greater story, and Altair is still most bad-ass assassin in my opinion. His skill was amazing (I always feel like Altair could take out all the other assassins with ease...) and his development and his whole life story is impressive. They did not develop him good enough in the first game alone, or give him as much time as they did to Ezio, I wish they would do a remake with young Altair again.

The masterpiece of a story. This game honestly changed my life, i played it for the first time when i was 12 or 13 (old enough to start paying attention to the actual story of a game)
Yeah, and they play pretty unrealistically too, such as not facing the person that's speaking to them. Still, it's the best Assassins Creed game movie that I've found. The graphics look great and they leave in most of the important dialogue and moments
+NinjaPillowXD Because if they were to create a remastered it wouldn't look that nice on PS3, plus they wouldn't even consider it because companies are like that and want you to buy the new console
i love the dialogue after we kill the target expecialy: "the artifacts is the proof......that this life is all we have!" that making the templar's ideology make more sense, if heaven doesnt exist we should make the world of utopia in this life.
Philip Shahbaz (the voice of Altair) does awesome job with the voice acting. This makes the character so badass. It makes the game so enjoyable despite being repetitive and clunky. The way Altair finds redemption and picks up on the pieces.
@@YuuyaKZMII think you missed the modern day scene in this video where lucy explains it. The animus comverts the language into english so that the person in the animus who doesnt speak the language can make sense of it. You would think that reliving your ancestors life means you would know what they know including their language, but thats not the case. Desmond only remembers m segments of altairs life, not his childhood and him learning his language. So its neccecary for desmonds integration into the animus
The side quests became a bit boring with time but my god, each main assassinations were amazing and the way they introduced your targets while you were part of the crowd was impressive.
It's still amazing how well-written this game was. It was marketed as a true "next gen" game and while the gameplay has aged, the writing truly is: it's very sharp, with the character richly drawn and the conflict between the Assassins and the Templars being very ambiguous. The Assassins are as ruthless as the Templars. In a way, the writing fits more with the artistic spin-off that questions and criticizes more simple main entries of a franchise. But this was the very first game!
I like Altairs style and how awesome he is sometimes, but personally wise, hes a kinda a douchebag. Hes about as unlikeable as it gets. Regardless though, i think its compelling to have it that way. Its interesting. He isnt like demigod awesome with perfect morality and integrity, hes a real guy. He was a real asshole guy. Thats compelling to me for some reason cause alot of times protagonists are usually either mute or a paragon of virgue.
That was done on purpose, he was an arrogant jerk who disregarded the Creed's tenants at the beginning of the game, and learned to humble himself after being stripped of his rank and in the process of the Hunt for the Nine
@@wrathguy I know. I recognized the changes the VERY first time I played Syndicate. What I meant was "Didn't Syndicate change the way the H. Blade is used in combat situations?".
I’ll tell ya. This was my favorite game when it first came out. I had an absolute blast playing this game, and planning the assassinations. It really was a genre-defining game. I absolutely love reliving that moment through this video. Thank you so much for recapturing my childhood.
2:44:44 the best voice acting ever 1:23:20 this part fucks me up fr. twice as much knowing how it ends. makes me think that even know Al Mualim knows Altair will eventually figure it out, he's not sure if he'll be on his side 1:51:10 1:52:00 he's def paranoid for fair reason LMAO 1:59:20 this shit is too deep for a wednesday morning 2:00:20 2:04:10 kind of crazy how they've said multiple times "weird choice of target but i guess master is smarter than us so we'll go with it" which is basically the same blind-following that they're talking about destroying 2:12:40 bro tryna spit a whole verse while dying like damn 2:25:10 homies 2:45:35 fucking badass reveal
Honestly... I know AC1 had linear gameplay and so on. But story part is by far better then any game I ever played. There are many books and so on. But how Altair develops from being extremly arrogant to respectful person in brotherhood. How all those Templars put doubt and are not regretting anything when dieing and final turn around to kill master.... masterpiece. I read many stories watched some "pseudo-serious" anime etc. But no story presents stuff so well. Altair changed among time not in freaking 1 day like Kira from deathnote, didn't have such simple reasons like revenging, didn't have stupid demi-gods involved.
Demetrius900000 Nothing is really cliche about it and honestly, its just a stupid snarl word used by people with no taste like Shaymalan who made the Avatar movie.
I was 13 when this game was released and this was my very first next gen game I ever played back when the PS3 and 360 had just come out. You can imagine how mind blown I was. I know it hasn’t aged well but in 2007 this game was truly groundbreaking and such an original and fresh concept. It really needs to be remade with the RE 2, Shadow of Colossus treatment
Watching Altair go from a Rouge to a man of principle and wisdom is amazing. My advice for the men finding their true purpose in life. Always ask for advice and feedback. And give something in return for the insight.
i have gone backward with assassins creed starting in unity and making my way back. as is my nature. so imagine my surprise when the calm wise Altair i was expecting turned out to be a hot head. thanks you
1:58:15 - Has to be my favorite interaction with Altair and Sibrand. There's so much truth spoken here, not only to further the plot in the game but the application reflects that of the real world. I get goosebumps when Sibrand tells Altair what he knows, and what awaits him and everyone else. Altair's character truly begins to shift and grow at this moment. His curiosity, and seeking to gain more knowledge makes us want to know more too. A+ story telling, it aged like a fine wine, and his voice actor is phenomenal.
1:03:42 "Safety and peace, Malik." "Your presence here deprives me of both." 2:44:22 "Safety and peace my friend." "Your presence here will deliver us both."
Fantastic game and a great beginning of the AC story. I played it through when it was included in the PS3 edition of Revelations. A relatalbe fact about Altair, he is not just a great video game character he's also an inspirational one.
Altair didn't have the charisma or personality of ezio but he had a better story and character development...the writing and plot is just far better...the philosophical, ethical and ideological conflict between two secret societies was the best part...the further it went down the rabbit hole of the animus and scifi magic bullshit the worse it got.
Been on an Assassin's Creed cut scenes movie bender. After watching Ezio's trilogy I had to buy the game bundle and replay, but to do that I had to movie watch the first game so I could replay AC2 correctly. Man I loved this game, and I really wish Revelations could have gotten the original Altair and Mentor voices back, I love Revelations but oof, Altair's voice is so hard to listen to in that game, it's not him. Anyway thanks for the upload, I can now start playing AC2 with the mindset I wanted. "Nothing is true, Everything is permitted."
@@dominikfulop7188 Late to the party but try poisoning a guard with a big weapon in a crowded area, then throwing florins in front of the guard as he swings around. So funny
Altair explains it in the codex: Though I ask my brothers now to abandon their rituals, I do not ask that they abandon the creed. THIS is what makes us assassins. Not the removal of a finger. Not a false promise of paradise. Not the prohibition of poison. Our duty is to the people, not to custom. If we must sneak, we shall sneak. If we must use poison, we shall use poison. If our blades can be used without removing fingers, we shall not demand they be taken. And we shall not manipulate our initiates with lies and parlor tricks. We shall speak plainly and honestly. We shall be made anew
While some of the gameplay is dated, this is the only Assassin’s creed I can say I loved, the middle eastern aesthetic and culture, the serious tone and style.
@@Jess-737 I would say play all of them. I'll let you in on a secret, there's many older games that offer far more freedom of gameplay than many modern ones because gaming went mainstream to appeal to more and more of a casual audience and having really shitty business practices. AC1-revelations might surprise you with how free the parkour is
Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind. Ecclesiastes 1:17 For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief. Ecclesiastes 1:18
In my opinion that rule only applies if something is worth showing. We don’t need to see some drugged up bartender getting stuffed in a car boot. Sure it might be funny but it would only take away from the overall mood and feel of the rest of the game. Besides I think seeing Desmond stay in one room the whole game really makes you feel for his situation. We only see him in one boring room the whole time so we can only imagine what things were like for him on the outside, how nice or even how bad his life was compared to how it is now. It allows us to empathise with him and immerse ourselves with the character as we’re playing. Remember mystery and close bonds with characters help make a story intriguing
Show don't tell isn't always a set in stone rule. Assassins Creed works well because we like Desmond are thrust into this situation with little context, and the way it does that helps us identify with Desmond and his plight and keeps an aura of mystery. The fact that our only look into the world is through the animus makes is more curious how what is taking place their affects the outside world.

fun facts, the real life assassins and real life templars never actually met, and the assassins just killed for their own benefit, much different from the games
@@birdsnestisstupid my dude he's talking about assassin's creed 1, 2, and 3, "actual assassin's" as in the members who were actually in the creed, not assassin's in real life😂
The masterpiece of a story. This game honestly changed my life, i played it for the first time when i was 12 or 13 (old enough to start paying attention to the actual story of a game)
Wish the person would have pressed the buttons to enable the different camera angles, makes it more Cinematic :)
Same, but they’re playing a Console only game on PC. It’s possible the button isn’t clear or wouldn’t work.
cloudykai not to mention his god awful gameplay lol
Yeah, and they play pretty unrealistically too, such as not facing the person that's speaking to them. Still, it's the best Assassins Creed game movie that I've found. The graphics look great and they leave in most of the important dialogue and moments

i love the dialogue after we kill the target expecialy:
"the artifacts is the proof......that this life is all we have!"

Philip Shahbaz (the voice of Altair) does awesome job with the voice acting. This makes the character so badass. It makes the game so enjoyable despite being repetitive and clunky. The way Altair finds redemption and picks up on the pieces.
Sad he never tried to have a middle eastern accent. At least that was fixed with ac bloodlines.
@@vitiate5093 I always thought that made him stand out more. Even if it didn't fit within the time period it might have been a bug in the Animus.
@@YuuyaKZMII think you missed the modern day scene in this video where lucy explains it. The animus comverts the language into english so that the person in the animus who doesnt speak the language can make sense of it. Assassin's Creed I-II vs Uncharted 1-2
Jesse Darty Only in the beginning he was an ass, he became a better and much nicer person.
That was the point they wanted to develop him throughout the game and show his transition
Kinda like Aiden Pierce from WD
He's much like Edward
That was done on purpose, he was an arrogant jerk who disregarded the Creed's tenants at the beginning of the game, and learned to humble himself after being stripped of his rank and in the process of the Hunt for the Nine
Miss being able to instant kill everyone by countering them with the hidden blade
miss being able to even USE the hidden blade seperately lol
@@CastorDeEuropa Didn't they change that in Syndicate?
@@monst3rslay3r2 Nope, in Syndicate the blade is only used in assassinations and some unarmed finishers
@@wrathguy I know. I recognized the changes the VERY first time I played Syndicate. What I meant was "Didn't Syndicate change the way the H. Blade is used in combat situations?".
You actually could do that in the first game....but holy fucking Gods it was damn near impossible to time the counter....
I’ll tell ya. This was my favorite game when it first came out. I had an absolute blast playing this game, and planning the assassinations. It really was a genre-defining game. I absolutely love reliving that moment through this video. Thank you so much for recapturing my childhood.

By far the best AC setting ever conceived. Ubisoft ran the IP into the ground.
2:44:44 the best voice acting ever

Altair changed among time not in freaking 1 day like Kira from deathnote, didn't have such simple reasons like revenging, didn't have stupid demi-gods involved.
piotrj333 light got power mad for certain
I get what you mean, but this story is still cliche.
And as for anime - go look Planetes, Ergo Proxy and Kaiba.
This game is good, but check out Berserk 1997 anime (English sub).
Demetrius900000 Nothing is really cliche about it and honestly, its just a stupid snarl word used by people with no taste like Shaymalan who made the Avatar movie.
and i also love how everybody stops fighting after the target is dead
Altair always was my favorite. This game is the best. The most beautifully executed plot of the series.
Oh i have been waiting for this SPECIFIC SERIES from YOU GUYS for a LONG TIME NOW ... :D , Thank you SO MUCH !!

Did this man just do a little dance after the guy he just defended got killed??
I was 13 when this game was released and this was my very first next gen game I ever played back when the PS3 and 360 had just come out. You can imagine how mind blown I was. I know it hasn’t aged well but in 2007 this game was truly groundbreaking and such an original and fresh concept. It really needs to be remade with the RE 2, Shadow of Colossus treatment
Um this game came out in 2003 lol. Ps3 didn't drop until like 07 and xbox came put I think a year before.

Watching Altair go from a Rouge to a man of principle and wisdom is amazing. My advice for the men finding their true purpose in life. Always ask for advice and feedback. And give something in return for the insight.
I love altairs voice and I love how he speaks in an American accent

Let's take a moment and thank this person for making this video so that we can relive those memories.
Thanks dude!
Fascinating to rewatch this in the context of all the Assassins' Creed games that have been released since.
1:03:42 "Safety and peace, Malik." "Your presence here deprives me of both."
2:44:22 "Safety and peace my friend." "Your presence here will deliver us both."
Fantastic game and a great beginning of the AC story. I played it through when it was included in the PS3 edition of Revelations. A relatalbe fact about Altair, he is not just a great video game character he's also an inspirational one.
Forgot how awesome the Bureaus looked in the first game
Thanks for this, a perfect way to get caught up on the story now that Assasin's Creed 2 is free

Yes!! This game single handedly sparked my love for history!
*That's a strong ass Templar in the beginning*
Speak to me or speak to God it's your choice.
Altair most badass line ever.
Altair didn't have the charisma or personality of ezio but he had a better story and character development...the writing and plot is just far better...the philosophical, ethical and ideological conflict between two secret societies was the best part...the further it went down the rabbit hole of the animus and scifi magic bullshit the worse it got.
Can't wait for the rest of the series
I swear his "It shall be done" and "as you wish" sounds so much like Warcraft 3 Arthas / Paladin. Am I crazy?
Yup
The Templars are like the Illuminati
Templars are Illuminati xd

I can easily tell that's not Robert de Sable. You hear the way she shouts as she swings the sword.
Ben Klein Altaïr could tell well enough, according to the books
I could tell by the way she moved and her eyes behind her helmet. So the big reveal, to me, was, yeah, I already figured it out.
“I’LL DISPATCH A BIRD”
I’M DEAD 😂😂😂😂😂
Lol who said that?
THIS GAME IS AWESOME ! I PLAYED THIS IN 2007, AND PLAYING IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.
Maybe the way Altair sounded like an American in the first game was of Subject 16's meddling with Abstergo's Animus.
That push at 2:38 had me flying 😂 😂 😂
Malik was a such good assassin, he was easily in Altair's league.
Dude this channel is dope! keep up the great work!

Altair explains it in the codex:
Though I ask my brothers now to abandon their rituals, I do not ask that they abandon the creed.
This man has the best edits. He took so long to make this for us. We should be proud.

Why do they start with Desmond telling he was kidnapped instead of showing him get kidnapped?
Show, don't tell. That's writing rule number one!
Cutscene budgets probably. Notice a lot of AC1 is a character standing and listening/talking/eavesdropping
Bro it was 2007 they can't show much
In my opinion that rule only applies if something is worth showing.
Because there's no need and they probably didn't have the budget for that.
Funniest thing about this is how the random assassin walks in during Altaïr’s meetings with Al Mualim and then walks right out lol
What a fantastic game this was! So nostalgic!
Thanks!
WOW!!!!!! Thank you so much this Super Thanks. You don't know how much it means to us!!
