I read somewhere, a little boy who’s dog had just passed said to his Mom, “God has all of us on earth to learn to be good and get to heaven, but dogs don’t have to stay as long as us because they learn to be good much faster.” It made me smile 😊

I'm crying with you for your sweet Jersey. I also had to put down my old sweet cat Zoey last year and it seems like yesterday. I still weep for her. I got her as a kitten and she was about 14 yrs. You never get used to missing them. You just try to take comfort that they had their best life with you. 🙏

Hey Elise, I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye to such a sweet and loving dog.
We adopted our cat Zimba from the shelter in September 2018 after he was out of the shelter and back in again three times that year alone. They told us he was dominant and agressive and that was all the more reason for me to give him a shot. We visited him a few times before we took him home and he grew so much on us, he's always babbling and purring, he loves his cuddles and for a few months now he even enjoys the occasional belly rubs. He is so sweet and loving and I'm dreading the day when we'll have to say goodbye to him.

I'm new to your channel and just found this video. I love your story about Jersey. I've had cats most of my life - and a few dogs - and I know how it is to lose a pet. In 2008, I lost my cat Bean to gastrointestinal cancer, and I was a basket case. But one month later, after a massive tropical storm, one of my coworkers posted some pix of a lovely black kitten she found on her rooftop during the storm. She was unable to keep him, so I took him and named him after the storm that blew him onto her roof: Gustav. Gus for short. A few years later, my husband got another black kitten - because Gus never took to hubby - and now we have Gus and Sonny, matched black cats. Pets are like the spirit of a home; it's so wonderful to come home after work or school to happy tails, mews, barks, whatever it is. And if we hurt so bad when we lose them, it's because the love we shared was SO deep. And that's ultimately a happy thing, to know such pure, undemanding love.

Lol! Thank you for making me laugh! It really was just one day of his life, he was so much more and I want people to know about his story. He wasn't the perfect dog, but he was perfect for us. I learned so much from watching his transformation and that love, patience and time are great healers. 💕

Thank you for sharing the beautiful story of your fur baby. I have lost several fur covered best friends thru the years, and sometimes it's harder than losing people. Our fur babies don't judge, they always listen (even if they don't answer back) and they always have time to hang out with us when we are feeling down or lonely!

I liked your Jersey from day one. And Olive grew up on me. I thought Jersey boy had a noble heart with those eyes. Certaintly was kind proved in camera when had to hold himself back from putting Olive in place (few times) in the weeks into joining your family. I cried with this story a mix of Joy for a loving chance to Jersey to experience love and belonging and sadness that he is gone. Jersey left knowing he was truly loved. My condolences to your children, husband and you.

I just started watching your videos and your story about Jersey Boy touched me,we have 2,17 year old cats,and 10 year old pug chihuahua mix,(Bandit)I got at our local shelter,he is so sweet and precious…I can’t imagine life without any of my babies,we got Bandit 8 years ago,he is so attached to my husband and I’m second best,which is odd since I’m the one that got him,it’s funny how much our sweet babies add so much happiness to our lives,I would incourage anyone to adopt at a shelter,we’ve had a great turn out…. I haven't watched the full video yet, but that story of him running away and then waiting at home reminded me of my dog Bean! He once did that, got loose in the forest and ran away, I searched and searched and then decided to go home and get my partner to help, and there he was, sitting at the front door.

Oh honey! What a wonderful experience you had with Jersey! I am so sorry for your loss. I am older almost seventy! I have enjoyed the company of so many fur babies in my life and the pain and sadness when they have to leave. Saying goodbye to anyone you love is devastating but it is the memories of the full life they had that keeps you going. Much love to you and yours and remember that you will see them all again ;)

Same thing happened to me 4 years ago with an incredible toy Pomeranian that I rescued and I still get chocked up.

So very sad, I have tears running down my cheeks and I can feel your pain. All the wonderful memories you have, just think what a difference you and your family made in Jersey's life. Rescue dogs are truly wonderful. My daughter started getting rescue dogs about.eight years ago. She always seemed to pick the oldest one, she felt like they were the ones that needed love 💕 the most. I'm not going to try to explain all of her journey with these wonderful friends she rescued, Minnie was the first one and the first time I saw her I thought my daughter was crazy, she was about six years old and had been so neglected. She was a breeder dog and had spent most of her life in a cage. Took a little bit of time for her to get used to her new home, but she is now queen of the house. I could talk about her experience with rescue dogs but I won't. I pray that your family can remember the good times and all that you provided for her and all the love you gave him. 🙏

Elise, I’m so sorry about Jersey Boy. I just recently found your site and I’m in awe. I watched this video and experienced what your family did. We adopted a puppy, she was a German Shepherd about 8 weeks old. She was one of the family like you said. My kids were about same age as your. We crate trained her. Her crate was upstairs by my 2 kids bedrooms. Oh she cried at night as she did not like to be alone at night. Lol my youngest a daughter love Pearl so much and would get upset when Pearl would cry so my daughter would get in the crate w/ Pearl, they both slept like babies. When I had to have brain surgery a few yrs later Pear Dog never left my side. She was smart as a whip and loved us all as we loved her. It came one day she was unable to walk due to her arthritis. We took her to the vet: we also had to make that decision to put her at peace. My husband then and myself stayed with her as I sobbed. She no longer was suffering. I slept with her leash and her collar for about a yr and I still have it. It really was such a difficult sad time. Here we are many yrs later and my youngest daughter and myself share a home with her puppy Frankenstein lol Frankie for short. He is so smart and a wonderful pup. His eyes are like humans!! He will be 1yr in March. He’s a beautiful Australian Shepherd; we love him to pieces 💙💙💙. I tried to send you a picture but I don’t know how from my iPad. Thank you for your wonderful channel and tutorials. I am now in LOVE with Amigurumis. I am practicing the magic ring 🧶😵💫🤯. I watched your video and many others also I have print out details. I know how to crochet but I have to say I thought I would successfully do this☹️. NOPE it’s so difficult but I’m NOT giving up!!! 💜🧶gayle 🧶

I know how devastated you all must be cause the day my two furry babies passed away my world just stopped. I don't have kids and practically i just worked and lived for them cause they filled my life. It was always us three anywhere we went either if it was swimming, at the park or out for long walks . 😢

What a wonderful story but it made me cry because I went through putting a dog down 3 times within 6 months but they knew how much they were loved up to the last breath. I have a dachshund and a yorkie. I love both but the yorkie is always on my lap.

Are daughter has 2 great Danes that found her family in a unique situation. And the oldest one definitely had trust issues. But love has changed her as well.

My sister’s cat Archee is the biological brother to my cat Frodo. Last september we unfortunately had to put sweet Archee down after being very sick for 7 months, And giving his meds daily was no longer giving him a good life. I had covid at the time he was put to sleep so I couldn’t be there, but everyday when I look at my boy Frodo I see his brother. And every time I go see my mom and sister, I scratch the ears of his little urn to say hello and goodbye. Because little Archee belongs to us and just because he is dead, that doesn’t mean I can’t acknowledge he is still there. I miss him deeply and will always love him. I even have a little jar with some of his hair the vet gave us!
Even though I see this video nearly a year later, I hope you are doing well, and i hope he is happy!

Jersey could not have possibly had a better family. You can see his love and joy for y'all in his eyes. I've spent all 53 years of my life surrounded with animals of all sorts and you can easily read their moods and level of happiness in their eyes and body language. No doubt that Jersey was a truly happy man dog! He won the lottery when you adopted him! My heart aches for you as I've recently lost my own old man corgi to cancer. Memories both hurt and bring joy.

Unfortunately, we also know what you an your family are going through. Three years ago we lost our sweet Zowie. She was found on the side of the road by my brother and she was eating a dead animal. She was dirty,skinny and very scared. He took her home to his wife and she called me. She wanted my help in finding the dog a home. They couldn’t keep her. So to make a long story short, after seeing her we decided to keep her. The next day we took her to the vet to have checked out and to make sure she didn’t have a microchip . No microchip and no reports of a dog missing meeting her description. Our vet told us she would not have made another night out on her own. Zowie ending up being the sweetest, most lovable long haired chihuahua. We had her for 13 years and to this day our vet says she can’t believe how well she did and how beautiful she turned out! She was a true little angel!

I was sobbing at that time, and now I'm sobbing again 😞What happened to Jersey was exactly what happened to my boy Soxy (he was 17 years old, and I lost him 5 months ago... a week before Xmas) and the pain was truly unbearable, but I'm thankful that I'm feeling OK. I lost both my senior cats within six months of each other, back in July of last year and January this year, and I'm still not able to hear about a beloved pet getting injured or dying without crying my eyes out. But I'm very glad you told us about your amazing dog, all the good things and all the not so good things, all the things that made up who he was long before he ever got sick and you had to make the always heartbreaking decision to let him go to sleep. Oh, my gosh, I am so sorry. I only just watched this now because I was at a con in DC on Friday and drove back yesterday, (which was an ordeal in itself.) I can imagine exactly how you felt. I've had animals, (cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, hedgehogs, fish, a ferret, rabbits, etc.,) my entire life, but there were five that hit me really hard.
First, our cat named Rusty. He never got above seven pounds his entire life. He was this little, black, kitten-looking cat who loved climbing up on our shoulders. He got diagnosed with cancer, though, and the tumors were blocking his ability to eat. We put him to sleep instead of the alternative of him literally starving to death.
Second, I had a cockatiel named Ivy. I loved that bird so much. But she was a female, and had been regularly laying eggs every six months or so. (Unfertilized, obviously, since no male bird was present.) But one thing that can happen with female birds is sometimes the egg gets stuck, and if that's not remedied by a vet immediately, it will burst and kill the bird. That's what happened with Ivy.
Third, my second hedgehog, Sonic, got cancer. (Unfortunately, that's how all three of my previous hedgehogs have passed. It's a common occurrence for hedgehogs.) I brought him to the vet for the last time and the vet wanted to bring him to the back, but I said no. I wanted to hold him till the end. And that's exactly what I did.
Fourth, cancer, once again. My cat, Merry, (yes, named after the Hobbit,) was diagnosed with cancer the day after Thanksgiving a few years back. He didn't look ready to go yet, though. So the vet prescribed painkillers and told me to just let them know when we were ready for that final vet visit. It came the day after Christmas. They set things up in the room so there was a blanket he could lay on, and put an IV into his paw. Then let me take the time to say goodbye, and when I was ready, I held him as they injected the stuff to euthanize him.
Fifth, cancer, cuz that's taken out all my hedgehogs, but I brought Pricklebat to the vet because I noticed she was having problems with her back feet. We got to the vet, and her eye was all bloody. So I made the decision there that it was kinder to euthanize her than put her through anything else. She was already great-great granny aged for a hedgehog, anyway.
And now I'm crying again. If nothing else, I'm glad you're able to share those videos, and Jersey Boy sounds like he was a wonderful addition to your family. Also, I admire your son for saying to let him try changing the dressing on Jersey's paw.

My deepest sympathy to you and your family on the loss of Jersey Boy. I think part of your pain is being blind-sided by his diagnosis. My Brat (looked exactly like Olive) seemed to have a bladder infection but turned out to have a rare bladder cancer. Making that decision is the most heroic act of love we can give our beloved pets. My new girly is a rescue and has lots of issues, but she's making great strides in learning to trust. She's a wonderful little buddy! I hope that another dog will be blessed to find your family! 😻🐶

@@EliseRoseCrochet Yes, I chose an older cat, a beautiful tabby. She was petrified when I went to meet her, but I took her anyhow! Someone asked me why I didn't get a friendlier cat, and I told her "Because this one needs me!" The rescue said I could return her; but even if she never loved me, I wasn't going to do that. She was 4-paw declawed and knew she couldn't defend herself, but she now knows she will never have to. She's very sweet and I feel so blessed to have her!

My heart goes out to your family. We lost our first dog at 17 and our cat at 21. Our beautiful husky girl will be 9 this summer, and she'll be loved and spoiled forever. She, too, has her quirks, her seizure meds cause anxiety and she doesn't like to be cornered. We try to avoid putting her in situations she can't handle and our trainer gave us skills to help defuse them. But aren't we all just a little quirky? 😉 Thanks for sharing Jersey's story with us.
