My biggest mistake was on my first afghan. It was beautiful! 14 colors one row of each in a pretty ROYGBIV pattern. Then I tied off each color on both sides with about 4 knots , cut off the excess yarn and then just to be safe, I put a drop of crazy glue on each knot! 😅 Hundreds of scratchy nubs but it lasted for 35 years and the yarn in the center gave out long before the knots did! 😊I’ve since learned to weave in the ends !

Maybe I’m just assigning too much weight to it, but I actually think it’s kind of lovely that you’re having a hard time figuring out what you did with reproducing your daughter and son in law’s characters. It means that they’re totally unique and there’s only two like them in the whole world. Thanks for the video!
I made my first temperature afghan this year using a well thought-out color/ temperature key. However, I didn’t plan my size or measurements, just grabbing acrylic yarn from my stash. As the year went on I realized it was going to be a large and extremely heavy blanket. Now in December I’m sure it could cover the entire state of Rhode Island😂
My first blanket is made out of a chenille type yarn. The yarn was great to use but I didn't take into mine the dimensions and it ended up to be long and skinny. After buying more skeins I finally gave up and called it good. It is so heavy! I used the thicket stitch but at least my friend that I made it for will be very warm! 😂
My BIGGEST fail was a huge shawl I made with VERY expensive yarn. I was about a month into getting back into crochet after a three decade hiatus and thought I was ready to jump in. I scrounged up money for the yarn for a few weeks and then got to work. I finished in record time and it was gorgeous not a missed stitch and my color pooling was chefs kiss. And then I washed it 😑 😢 and when I opened the washer my whole soul left my body. It was a jumble of yarn and some had felted 😢 I did not weave my ends , for some reason I had a brain drain and freaking tied them 😭 😭 😭 😢 it was soul crushing.
@@montanalilac omg for real! I have a million red heart projects that have the ends triple woven but I get a lil merino super wash and bam 💥 I’m tying ends 🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ 😫😭
So I've had a couple. First, I made afghans for all of my kids while teaching myself to crochet. I now know that I essentialy did 4 blankets in back loops only. I had no idea what a stitch was and the book I was using didn't really explain it in a way I understood. 15sec on RUclips and I learned what made a stitch. Then my first Amigurumi.... the gauge/tension the, holes, the stuffing, the akward decreases and increases. Yeah it was bad. My children have a collection of "Mommy Prototypes" that they love and adore in all of their akward, mishappen glory. And I learned a lot, too!
I made a dress for my kid. I didn't think about the yarn. It was cotton and made the dress more like an armour. 😂 It also came out just barely big enough since I didn't think about adding some room.
When I was about 13, I decided to knit a sweater for my aunt. My mom bought me the beautiful emerald green yarn i had chosen. At the end the sweater had unven sleeves one shorter than the other and some extra holes where i had dropped stitches. Even though the sweater turned out hideous, my aunt wore that sweater around the house for years.
MY biggest mistake was when I was making a Dishcloth. I added stitches and deleted stitches and my edges were ALL OVER the place. I still have it and I laugh everything I pick it up.
I have given up on all my projects because I thought they were ugly, this in turn caused me to lose interest in crotchet for a while, I just recently got back into it and I'm trying to learn to finish my project no matter what it looks like because it helps me grow as a crotcheter, Thank you Elise for this video,
While the first blanket I ever made was very pretty, it had a big mistake. I used 3 colours, in the Catherine’s Wheel stitch. Each row rotated through the colours. However, in the middle or a bit more, I repeated a colour, and did not see the error until near the end of the blanket. I could of frogged the blanket, but I was so proud of what I had accomplished so far, that I pretended this was a purposeful plan. The blanket was so lovely, and for a granddaughter, whom loved it. I am planning another blanket for her, as I have come a long way, several blankets later! 😅 PS The bunny headband is super cute, too floppy or not.
Im a beginner crocheter. Less than half a year in. And im in the phase now of just completing projects and accepting the mistakes and learning from them for the next project. And ever since i started embracing the mistakes, i have learned so much. Im so proud of the projects i have finished, but i know a few years from now im gonna look back and think these were the worst projects ive ever made. But i still love them. My biggest lesson recently was while making the knotted lovey. I made the whole panda inside out and i made the head too big. My current lovey is going way smoother and its actually the right side out. 🎉
Yes!! You're in such a great season of your crochet journey! I am also so proud of the projects I made in the beginning! It reminds me that I was learning how to embrace my mistakes and that I didn't give up when it got hard! 🧶🧶🧶
My worst project is my first, personal queen-sized blanket. I was a complete beginner, and only used single crochet the entire time, but I used hooks that were completely different gauges (ranging from 6 to 10), different tensions, and I even used a mechanical pencil at one point when I couldn't find my hooks! I have no clue what gauge that could've been, so it's all types of warped, but I still love it!
You bunny ear headband was amazing! I can't believe you counted that as a fail. To me it was sooo much cuter than the original pattern. New to crocheting so everything pretty much fails into the fail category, but I am enjoying the process and learning little by little. So glad I found you! Thank you for all of your videos!!
I'm with you on the importance of writing good notes on my projects! I can't tell you how many times I forgot what hook I used, or where I left off on a project. Then you waste so much time trying to figure it out when you could've just done it right the first time! Definitely mistakes I've learned from! Thanks for your great video Elise! ❤
Yep, me too! I'm a beginner and started so many projects at the same time that I really confused myself. I bought a crochet journal in the hopes that it would help but I still keep starting new projects and failing to write down what I have done. Just too caught up in the excitement of learning a new art form!
@colson8327 I know! I have tried to keep a designated notebook and I'm always misplacing that! I just need to work on my organizing skills! I have so many works in progress and that adds to the confusion!
I take a piece of yarn and make knots and loops in it to emulate the hook size. For example a size six has six knots a size 6.5 has 6 knots and a loop. I tie it to the project in the first couple rows and snip it off when finished.
My bigger mistake was trying to make matching slippers. One will fit Godzilla and the other tinker bell. Well now I crochet them at the same time , toes then body then heel etc. works for me! Loved the video. I’ve made all your mistakes the slippers were the easiest to explain. Still at it however and now I know when to stop and start over. Don’t crochet on and on when it’s wrong. Lots of ❤️
Thanks for sharing your worst projects with us! We learn so much by our mistakes. I was pretty new at crochet (mostly self-taught) and my worst mistake was thinking that just by following directions in a magazine my granny square sweater would look just like the one on the cover. I didn’t know anything about tension or yarn choice. Once I began sewing ALL the completed granny squares together I realized that my sweater was stiff as a board and I could hardly get it on. I was so disappointed. 40 years later it’s probably still in a box in my basement because I didn’t have the heart to get rid of it.
I just started crocheting a little over a year ago so pretty much everything I make is a hot mess...although my blankets are a lot less trapezoidal than in the beginning 😁. I actually have gifted a few baby blankets, and the recipients loved them. Practice practice practice! I can't wait to be good enough to try amigurumi....your work is beautiful Elise!
But I love alien bear! I just love big heads though😂 The wedding dolls are the sweetest. I've also done confusing notes and kicked myself later! You got this🙌🏻
hi elise I ve been watching you for some time and here is my worst project ever . I learned to crochet at the age of seven or eight and I knew only chains and when I returned to crochet I saw a baby jellyfish that i thought was amazing at that time I then tried to crochet it chaining madly and sewing with thread the chains later I improved and learned how to do the magic ring and double crochets and trebles and puff stiches and I am now crocheting amazing toys and this is the first time I am crocheting a sweater.(I am nine years old and I am from Romania). Thanks elise for your advice and for petunia pettalmouse (I renamed him stuart little.
I started amigurumi when my grandson asked me to make a kit of Peanuts characters that he found at the book store. I made Charlie Brown first and I mistakenly crocheted the leg openings closed as I made the legs. After a couple more characters I realized what I did wrong, so I asked my grandson for Charlie Brown back so I could “fix his legs.” I didn’t realize how much fun amigurumi was until that kit! Thank you for your videos, Elise. You are a wonderful crochet friend! 💞
@@kathy9947 I'm not sure my response gets posted because every time I check it's not here. :/ The kit was purchased at B a r n e s & N o b l e and if no longer there, I saw some on e b a y. :)
I'm making an amigurumi nativity set and for some reason my counts never come out the same as the pattern. All my people are different shapes and sizes. But that's okay...I decided I can live with it. If I demanded perfection I wouldn't crochet at all.
Awww, the little Alien Bear is SO CUTE! Idk what it is about him, but he's adorable!! I love his giant head. I would love to screw up a pattern that somehow made him, I'm in love!!! ❤❤❤😮
Recently a friend asked me to make a red panda from a pattern I hadn't used before so I decided to do a trial run and I'm so glad I did! The first one was lumpy and you could see the stuffing, the face was all wrong and the embroidered features were shocking. I was tempted to tell her I couldn't do it but preserved, made a lost of everything I wanted to change and how to thought to change it and I was so shock at how different the second one came out. Just learning from a single project the quality of my work advanced lightyears!
I am still a beginner and haven't made a lot of projects but I'm noticing a huge improvement in every new project I make. Alongside that I also notice all the mistakes I made just a while ago. My worst project was a pair of socks/ house slippers that I wanted to gift to my boyfriend. I decided to change the recommended yarn to a bulky senille one, measurements were all wrong and they ended up being waaay too big for him😂I learned that if you want to use a different yarn than the recommended it should at least be a little alike and obviously you should measure your projects especially when its a clothing piece! At the end he did love them just because I made them, even though they're funny looking😅
Did you upload this video just for me? lol I just made the ugliest panda ever and it's a gift. I started knitting last year and while my tension was good for keeping the stuffing hidden, it was a nightmare to seam. I did that poorly. The dress was so cute but it was so oversized...I was feeling so defeated. Thankfully I have knit so much since starting that panda and I can modify patterns so that there is much less seaming.
Elise, your bride and groom are meant to not be easily replicated because of the intention that they are made just for your daughter and son-in-law with lots of love.
I actually think the bear would have been so cute with arms. It's so pretty already, that the arms would make it perfect! By the way, I love listening to your videos while I crochet! You're so talented!
With that bear, if you added arms and turtleneck sweater, he'd be cute. I find quite a few amis look odd until you add the arms (or other parts). Your tips on the eye placement are great. I usually draw an imaginary horizontal line half way down the head to determine the height to place the eyes and then two vertical lines to divide the head into thirds to determine how far apart to place the eyes.
I tried to make my first wearable - a basic sleeveless shirt with just a little bit of shaping. It took me three tries to come anywhere close to gauge and when I got pretty close I figured that was good enough for a shirt that was supposed to be pretty loose anyway. HAH. Turns out pretty close becomes tent like once you have made the entire project sigh
Thank you so much Elise for being so open about your mistakes. And even more so about keeping the finished items. Every project of mine has had mistakes. Some I can live with, some not. But you are so right. It is always an opportunity for learning. Your mistakes provide a learning opportunity for me too. Thank you! And, I am glad you are so proud of these “mistakes”. They are still adorable.
Thank you!! Without the mistakes I would never be the crocheter I am today! In several years I will look back on the work I'm doing now and see all the mistakes! 🧶🧶
I love the alien bear. He's so cute! My worst failure wasn't crochet (which I do enjoy!), but knitting. I was making a gansey sweater for my brother. Gansey sweaters are made with sport weight wool and knitted very tightly, so you can imagine how long that would take. They are knit in one piece from the bottom up, and when I reached the point where I had to split to add the arms I realised my error: I only did the pattern on the front of the sweater. It was supposed to be on the back too. In my defense I was using a very old and traditional pattern that was a little sparse on directions and only had pictures of the front of the sweater. I felt so bad because my brother had paid hundreds of dollars for the wool (I made a deal with him that I will make him whatever he wants, he just has to pay for the yarn). I ended up ripping out almost the whole sweater, right down to the ribbing at the bottom. I'm glad I did, because (after fixing a couple more issues) it turned out to be the most amazing thing I have ever made! I'm so proud of it and he wears it constantly. But wow, that moment when I realised my mistake was horrible.
As someone who had been away from crocheting for many years, essentially a beginner, I crocheted a rectangular shawl for my sister out of variegated 18:1718:17 velour yarn. What a nightmare!!! The yarn was so soft and slippery that I could hardly work with it. I finished it after frogging many rows over and over again. It has lots of uneven rows but my sister likes it. I learned quite a bit. 😊
She likes it because someone took the time to do something personally for her. The beauty of crochet made with love v a quickly purchased item produced thousands of times.
My worst project was crocheting a CAL temperature blanket with a RUclips creator. She alternated stitch for each month and some of the stitches pulled the blanket horribly to the side. The sides are so wonky that I got discouraged and decided to quit, about 8 months in. I learned to wait until the complete blanket has been created before trusting the creator and joining them for the “along” portion of the project. I’ll wait to see the proof of concept before I invest all that time, money, and yarn.
My worst project was a hippo head pillow/plushie for my son. It came out looking like a moose without antlers. 😂😂😂🤦♀️ Alien bear needs arms! He is too cute.
I love the alien bear. He's kinda like a giraffe body. I'm a newbie on this, but I can't stop. I can relate to excuses to crochet more lol. I can tell you the crochet kits for creatures from dollar tree have the worst instructions ever. It has taught me enough that with knowledge from youtube, I've gotten really good at looking at stuff and just making it as I go. I love your victor frog.
I started my crochet journey making amigurumi toys for my grandson who was an infant at the time. Luckily he did not care how wonkie they looked and still plays with them today at Age 3. He liked to bite off the safety eyes so all of the toys I make him have homemade crochet eyes that are kids safe. My skills have improved and I pick up a hook daily as crocheting with my two cats in my lap is my happy place
I was making a hat and just followed the instructions without really thinking about it, but then it ended up being child size because I crochet tighter than average. I used scarfie lite yarn which is very textured and wouldn't frog at all so I had to pitch it and start over. Now I'm trying it on a I go so I know it will fit. Lesson learned.
I had a project I did when I very first started amigurumi. He's affectionately named ugly cat. I chose a black and white yarn thinking it would pool... it didn't. There wasn't enough length between color changes and he turned out part stripen (not in a good way) part speckled (also not in a good way). To make matters worse, I lost one of his ears. So he ended up being a very derpy looking 1 eared ugly can. My daughter loved him and told me she was claiming him as her own. Ugly cat is no more though. He's been lost over the years. I learned that pooling doesn't just magically happen and isn't possible with all color changing yarn.
Aww! I appreciate this video more than you think, most youtubers never share their fails, only their best projects. It can make people like me feel as if they are the only ones who make mistakes, but as you know, that's never the case! Mistakes help us grow, I love all of my projects but not just the perfect ones. Sometimes my weirdest looking amigurimi ends up being my favorite. Keep up the great work! I love alien bear btw 💜🐻
Thank you! I'm on a mission to help people to realize that everyone starts at the beginning. We all have failures, it's nothing to be ashamed of! ❤️❤️❤️
With the second one, the bag, the first thing I noticed was that the original one with the yellow yarn has a completely different stitch pattern used. Yours looks like it was just crocheted in the round, unless I'm being thrown off by the pattern of the yarn. The yellow one has those raised lines throughout it. With the afghan, so wait, what colors did you use?? Inquiring minds need to know! Ooo, that was a fox? Um . . . that pattern definitely needs the nose to be more of a 3D kinda thing, rather than just flat. But yeah, totally agree on the eyes being too low and too wide set. Ouch . . . I feel you on the notes thing. My first handful of projects, I was like, "I don't need to write down what I'm doing, I'll remember, no problem!" Yeah. That didn't work out so well. Now, I've got a notebook where I write down what the body part is, what I'm doing with it, how many rows, what changes there are at what row, all in a way that makes perfect sense to me. (But that would confuse the heck out of anyone who reads patterns the traditional way.) I'd say my biggest mistake was when I first began and I understood working in the round and increasing stitches, but not having a stitch marker. So learning to use the stitch marker with my second project made a huge difference. As did writing down what I was doing with dolls so I could recreate them multiple times.
Yes! I got the stitch pattern wrong on the basket and there was a video tutorial! 😂 I don't remember the colors I used for the granny square blanket but they were all wrong. There was a quick photo I shared during the video, but if you blinked you would probably have missed it! They just look like mud all together! ❤️
My worst crochet project was my very first ami, which was a doll. It has definitely seen better days! I used a 5mm hook because I didn't know about stuffing showing through, then because of that, the head was way too big, then because of that the head was super floppy because I had 1 thin piece of wire in her neck, then the quality of the yarn.... it goes on forever. At least I can now say that my very first ami was the one I learned the most on, and I can look back on that poor doll and then look at my 4th doll and see the incredible diference that hook size, the right wire, yarn quality, and pure skill helps in making the toy of your dreams. I thought this video was very interesting. Keep up the good work!
My worst project was my first sweater- mismatched Dollar Tree yarn because “Am I really going to stick with this?” It’s hard to hate it because since finishing that wearable in June, a whole world has opened up to me!! Crochet for Empty-Nester therapy!! I wear it sometimes in public…
When I was about 14 years old, I had to knit socks at school. I knitted so thight that I was left with socks in doll size that stayed upright. 🤦🤯 Fortunately, that has improved a lot, even for a shop knit. Crochet works also work well, such as blankets for charity.
Loved this video! It feels so comforting to know I am not alone in the struggles of learning. Also reminded me of a show of nailed it! 😝 I gasped when you mentioned you can’t just throw that blanket in the wash! Oh yeaaaahhhhh. I wouldn’t have thought of that either!!! 😬
I know I'm late to the party but I think alien bear is adorable, and that you should just go all out and embrace the weird. Give him hands but no arms, or a unicorn horn, or a little neon green top hat (he is an alien after all). Or even all three! In all seriousness, if you finish him, I will absolutely buy him for a reasonable price. Hit me up if you're interested! ♥
When I first learned about granny squares I was hesitant, thought it was too old fashioned and silly.. until I made one. Now my favorite thing is to make giant granny square blankets and giving them to people for no reason 😅... I no longer judge anything until I try it.
Is it weird that I like your alien bear? The big head makes it look like it's from an anime. 😄 I'm just getting back into crochet after several years of doing other things, and went through my yarn stash yesterday. There was a bag in there of what I thought were scraps, but were actually my practice projects: granny squares, doilies, swatches of different stitch types. Some were good and some were awful. It's always a journey.
I affectionately call my first project "Kickstand". I was using a tutorial from Skein Spider for a popcorn stitch mini bunny amigurumi. I messed up counting on the row with back legs and placed the popcorns wrong. He looks like he is marking his territory. I love him so much. He taught me to find humor in mistakes.
So many hard learned lessons… like understanding what a backloop was, actually using stitch markers, stuffing projects correctly, and making magic rings instead of magic knots 😅
I actually really like the Alien bear. He's cute! I also like the floppy ears on the headband. My worst crochet project was a crochet cardigan. The yarn was itchy and the fit was terrible.
My biggest crochet mistake was many years ago. I made a dolman sleeved sweater with wide sleeves out of wool yarn. It was so heavy and bulky I felt like I was suffocating in it. Now I'm much more careful about yarn content and pattern style with everything I crochet.
I'm just an amateur, so I haven't racked up a lot of projects with a lot of mistakes-give me time :) I liked how, with the exception of the armless alien, that you finished your projects-mistakes included. You gave some good tips to us beginners. Thank you Elise Rose!
@@EliseRoseCrochet I made an afghan throw for my daughter. I began to notice that the rows were getting longer and longer. The sides were growing outwards. My mistake? Not counting my stitches every few rows. I realised what I had done to gain the extra stitches and ended up frogging it and starting again. My daughter got her throw and I learned a valuable, even though a time-consuming, lesson.😏
Last year, I made my granddaughter an amigurumi mermaid. The head was so heavy with all the yarn hair, it kept flopping over! I ended up shoving a chopstick through the top of the head and down into the body. Since then, I’ve come across a few different RUclips videos on how to make yarn hair for amigurumi, so if I ever make another doll, I’ll have something to fall back on
I don't even know what my worst projects were...I honestly love most of my crochet enough that nothing stands out. Maybe the russian chart that I struggled so hard with before realizing that it was just telling me to repeat the motif? Maybe the granny square blanket that my sister's fiance's mother asked for and I spent a solid week straight on that I KNOW is not being loved like it should be. Possibly the top that did not fit anyone.
When I first started to learn crochet, my passion was doilies. I excitedly showed the lady that had originally taught me crochet basics my first completed doily. She said while it was done with no mistakes in the pattern, that I really needed to loosen up my tension as it was way too tight! Well, lesson learned! I think of what she said every time I crochet. “Loosen up!” My uptightness in my personality shows up in my crochet if I don’t keep it in check!! Thank you, Mary Ann F. !!
These are amazing. What I've learned is when you're using 4 weight yarn all your little mistakes are much more visible than size 5 yarn. So all these cute quick crochet amigarumi tutorials look easy until you try a smaller yarn
The first item I crocheted didn't realize the importance of the right hook measure and I use a very small hook with quite thick wool 😂 the kurti took me a lot of time ,came out beautiful but extremely heavy ,like a middle age armour 😂still I am waiting for a very cold winter 😅love your video 👍
I found the bunny patter on Etsy. The Shop is, as you said, WoolyWarmCrochet. And the name of the pattern is “Crochet Ruthie and Ralph Rabbit Written Pattern - Amigurumi Bunny Rabbit.” I think I might have to make Ruthie. So 🥰 cute.
My first amigurumi project was a little mouse by Sharon Ojala. Somehow my mouse got turned inside out halfway through and so half of his body is the "wrong" side of the stitches and the other half is the "right" side of the stitches. 😅 This is how I learned about the different sides of crocheting in the round.
I taught myself crochet in my 20s, have made many many mistakes. For the last 20 years have been primarily a beader, have designed many projects and boy oh boy there have been mistakee! I take an obnoxious amount of pics on my phone, step by step, and that helps. I made the ladies in the family beaded ornaments for Christmas-- my personal designs turned out well but there was tweaking along the way! One I completely cut the beaded cover apart and remade it. Long story short - keep at it and don't give up. You do lovely work Elise
I think my worst projects are now as I only started crocheting a few weeks ago but every project is teaching something. It might teach me something basic, but it is teaching me.
My first ever amigurumi was an elephant (my favorite animal) for my son that was 4 months at the time. It was a train wreck, but I learned a lot. A year and a half later, and he's still my sons favorite stuffie even though he's disproportionate, has a floppy neck, and you can see his stuffing. I hated it at first but now I love it too. He taught me a lot about amigurumi and my son couldn't care less about the imperfections 💙
My nightmare project was using lace weight yarn on an advanced shawl pattern. 😂 It was simple. I had this stunning yarn that I thought was perfect for the Lost Souls Shawl. The problem was I had never made an intermediate/ advanced pattern or a shawl before. But the stitches looked easy enough, so off I went. The stitches were so small I couldn't count them! I couldn't finish it, but I didn't give up. I ended up making the pattern with some chunkier yarn and I loved it! Now I've made a couple of them that are just perfect and I found another shawl pattern for the gorgeous yarn and it's become a staple in my fall/spring wardrobe.
This was such a good and informative video!! I can relate to you with the “taking good notes”part when I tried to recreate a hat I free-handed my friend 😭
Great information 👍🏽 I can relate to the bride and groom situation bc I made a pink stuffy flower, posted on fb and peeps requested pattern and I cannot recall (remember is not a word for this old lady, RECALL 😂) how I made it and I have since sold it as well 🤦🏽♀️😳🤦🏽♀️ What’s a crocheted to do🤷🏽♀️ So yes, definitely take notes! Leticia
My biggest beginner fail ever: making a wonderful scarf with colorful sock yarn. It looked wonderful but scratched like hell. The yarn was acrylic or some sheep wool/acrylic mix. In the end, I took it apart at a later date and used the yarn for my first knitted socks. That worked much better xD
When I first started to crochet I made a pair of slippers for my friend and they were both different sizes because I used different tension for them😅. One of them was bigger than the other, but my friend was very understanding and she encouraged me saying I will get better at it😊. Thank you for sharing your mistakes with us! I love your videos, they are interesting and fun.
My biggest fails after "learning" how to properly crochet... It would have to be making an acrylic short sleeved sweater for the Summer... Oh...The sticky, humid days in South Carolina in that sweater... I may have only made it through 4 days wearing it. But my worst knitting was "Derpy the Dear"... I didn't pre-read the pattern, I missed HUGE things... I wish I could find him, he got lost some where in moving the last 6 times... He was something out of a Tim Burton meets Wes Craven nightmare...
Years ago I crocheted a number of scarves and I did my own "design" in which, instead of anchoring the stitches by going through the top two loops, I only went through the one loop. These scarves took on a life of their own by growing, grooowing, grooowwwwing in length ahaha!
That little alien bear deserves arms, Elise! ☹️
Haha! There have been several others who have said the same thing!! 👽🧸😂
No, it looks cute without arms!
@@EliseRoseCrochet I LOVE HIM and would love to have a pattern for him. The long legs are funny and cute! Please make us a pattern!
I love alien bear and his non-proportioned little body! Very Cartoon Network :)
Thank you so much for sharing!! Sounds like it was a gorgeous afghan! 🧶🧶🧶

Maybe I’m just assigning too much weight to it, but I actually think it’s kind of lovely that you’re having a hard time figuring out what you did with reproducing your daughter and son in law’s characters. It means that they’re totally unique and there’s only two like them in the whole world.

😢 and when I opened the washer my whole soul left my body. It was a jumble of yarn and some had felted 😢 I did not weave my ends , for some reason I had a brain drain and freaking tied them 😭 😭 😭
😢 it was soul crushing.
Oh no!!!!!!!! My heart hurts for you!!!!! 🧶🧶🧶
😮😮😮
Oh no. I would have cried for days…or weeks. I’m so sorry for your experience.
It seems like the more expensive the yarn, the worse the mistake! My condolences for your loss. 🫣
Awww! That's so sweet that your kids loved the prototypes!! Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
I honestly love the large head on the bear!
Thank you! 👽🧸
I made a dress for my kid. I didn't think about the yarn. It was cotton and made the dress more like an armour. 😂 It also came out just barely big enough since I didn't think about adding some room.
Thank you sharing!! 🧶🧶🧶
Awwww! That's so sweet! ❤️
Aww how sweet ❤
Aww poor Bear, please give the Bear arms, I think all of your 'failures' are beautiful, I don't think any of them are failures
He definitely needs arms! 👽🧸
The alien bear is actually so cute I wanna make one of my own just like him! Weird quirks and all
Awww! Thank you! 👽🧸
I love that weird little fox!! I do that with eyes intentionally lol.
Haha!! Thank you! 🦊🦊🦊
MY biggest mistake was when I was making a Dishcloth. I added stitches and deleted stitches and my edges were ALL OVER the place. I still have it and I laugh everything I pick it up.
Haha!! Those are great lessons!! 🧶🧶🧶
Watching Elise’s videos while crocheting is such a vibe❤
Awww! Thank you! 🧶🧶🧶
I have given up on all my projects because I thought they were ugly, this in turn caused me to lose interest in crotchet for a while, I just recently got back into it and I'm trying to learn to finish my project no matter what it looks like because it helps me grow as a crotcheter, Thank you Elise for this video,
Yes! Be very strategic about the projects you start and finish most of them! Great new strategy!! 🧶🧶🧶
@EliseRoseCrochet Thank you sweetie! I appreciate the info. I'm definitely going to be more strategic about my projects from here on out.
Sounds like the project turned out beautiful even with the mistake!! 🧶🧶🧶
Wow!!! A queen sized single crochet blanket!! That was a lot of work! 🧶🧶🧶
Yes!!!! It's the hardest mistake I've had to learn!! 🧶🧶🧶
I LOVE the alien bear. It's perfect 🥺
Ooohh you could put the bunny ears and flowers on a very steam punk vibe hat and be the dopest for Easter 🐣
Oh that sounds amazing!! 🐰🐰🐰
Lots of ❤️
Thanks for sharing! That happened to me when knitting a pair of socks! 🧦🧦🧦
@@EliseRoseCrochet oh Elise the comments are hilarious!!! Such fun and I’ve done them all💖
Thanks for sharing your worst projects with us!
I totally understand not wanting to get rid of it! Thanks for sharing! ❤
That's wonderful!! Sounds like you've already made a lot of progress!!! 🧶🧶🧶
But I love alien bear! I just love big heads though😂 The wedding dolls are the sweetest. I've also done confusing notes and kicked myself later! You got this🙌🏻
I love Alien Bear, too! He looks upset about not having arms. 😆
@@wil554 haha, oh yay! Isn't he the cutest!! He may be a tad upset about his arms. 😂😂
Thank you, Katie! Your designs are the cutest!!! 🐻🐻🐻
hi elise I ve been watching you for some time and here is my worst project ever .
Wow!! That is amazing!! What an amazing crocheter you will be when you're my age!! 👏👏👏
Almost same, but I learned to crochet at 9 it think and am a bit older than you at the moment!
Haha!! Those mistakes really are the best teachers!! ❤️
I would love a Peanuts gang in amigurumi! May I ask where you got it?
@@kathy9947 I'm not sure my response gets posted because every time I check it's not here. :/ The kit was purchased at B a r n e s & N o b l e and if no longer there, I saw some on e b a y. :)
I'm making an amigurumi nativity set and for some reason my counts never come out the same as the pattern. All my people are different shapes and sizes. But that's okay...I decided I can live with it. If I demanded perfection I wouldn't crochet at all.
That's a great attitude to have!! 👏👏👏
Awww, the little Alien Bear is SO CUTE! Idk what it is about him, but he's adorable!! I love his giant head. I would love to screw up a pattern that somehow made him, I'm in love!!! ❤❤❤😮
Awww! Thank you!! 👽🐻
That's amazing!!! I love how you didn't let your first attempt stop you! You let it be the guide for what to do different the next time!! 👏👏👏
That bear is adorable. You could still add the arms or even give it to a child without arms. Not everyone is blessed with 2. But he's cute as is. 😍
Thank you! 👽🧸
Your story reminds me that I forgot about a panda I crocheted! It was a gift too and it looked more like a black and white potato! 😂😂😂
Elise, your bride and groom are meant to not be easily replicated because of the intention that they are made just for your daughter and son-in-law with lots of love.
Thank you!! 👰🏼♀️🤵🏻♂️
I'm in love with the bunny 🐇😻
Awww! Thank you! 🐰
I actually think the bear would have been so cute with arms. It's so pretty already, that the arms would make it perfect!
By the way, I love listening to your videos while I crochet! You're so talented!
also reminds me of mr. bean's bear! lol
You're probably right! Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
U are wrong!😂 That bunny headband is no mistake!! ITS EPIC❤❤😂❤🎉
That was a hard lesson to learn I'm sure! Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
Love "fails". They're actually a fantastic learning experience, along with a visual reference = not really a fail afterall.
They are excellent teachers! ❤
As someone who had been away from crocheting for many years, essentially a beginner, I crocheted a rectangular shawl for my sister out of variegated 18:17 18:17 velour yarn. What a nightmare!!! The yarn was so soft and slippery that I could hardly work with it. I finished it after frogging many rows over and over again. It has lots of uneven rows but my sister likes it. I learned quite a bit. 😊
Those are such great lessons! And it's wonderful that your sister liked it! 🧶🧶🧶
I have avoided that yarn because I was suspicious about how hard it would be to work with. Thanks for confirming!
That’s a really good lesson! There is nothing worse than seeing a beautiful blanket with wonky sides! 😳
My worst project was a hippo head pillow/plushie for my son. It came out looking like a moose without antlers. 😂😂😂🤦♀️ Alien bear needs arms! He is too cute.
Haha!!! Thank you for the visual on the hippo! And Alien Bear now has many people rooting for him to get arms! 😂😂😂
Awww! So sweet! 🧶🧶🧶
Good lesson to learn! Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
Awwww! Ugly cat sounds adorable!!!! 🐱🐱🐱
My first handful of projects, I was like, "I don't need to write down what I'm doing, I'll remember, no problem!"
Yeah. That didn't work out so well.
Now, I've got a notebook where I write down what the body part is, what I'm doing with it, how many rows, what changes there are at what row, all in a way that makes perfect sense to me. (But that would confuse the heck out of anyone who reads patterns the traditional way.)
I'd say my biggest mistake was when I first began and I understood working in the round and increasing stitches, but not having a stitch marker.
Thank you so much for sharing!! It's always fun to see your progress!! 🧶🧶🧶
I love Alien Bear! So cute!
Haha! Thank you!! 👽🧸
I made a pug for my kiddo. He was a bit derpy. My kid loves it and I had 3 people order them from me. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Awww! How sweet! 🧶🧶🧶
Fortunately, that has improved a lot, even for a shop knit.
Crochet works also work well, such as blankets for charity.
Haha! Tiny little doll socks! 🧦

Yes!! I didn't think of that either when I made it! 🧺
Haha!! You're not the only one who likes 👽🧸!! And it's fun to look back on those early projects! Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
Awwww! Love that! Thank you for sharing!! 🧶🧶🧶
So many hard learned lessons… like understanding what a backloop was, actually using stitch markers, stuffing projects correctly, and making magic rings instead of magic knots 😅
We all learn from those mistakes! They are the best teachers! ❤️❤️❤️
I actually really like the Alien bear. He's cute! I also like the floppy ears on the headband. My worst crochet project was a crochet cardigan. The yarn was itchy and the fit was terrible.
Thanks for sharing!! 🧶🧶🧶
Alien Bear is so cute 😍
Thank you! 👽🧸
My biggest crochet mistake was many years ago. I made a dolman sleeved sweater with wide sleeves out of wool yarn. It was so heavy and bulky I felt like I was suffocating in it. Now I'm much more careful about yarn content and pattern style with everything I crochet.
That's a really good lesson to learn! 🐑🐑🐑
I'm just an amateur, so I haven't racked up a lot of projects with a lot of mistakes-give me time :) I liked how, with the exception of the armless alien, that you finished your projects-mistakes included. You gave some good tips to us beginners. Thank you Elise Rose!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video!! And mistakes are the BEST teachers!! 🧶🧶🧶

I made an afghan throw for my daughter.
I love the alien bear he's so cute and unique!
Thank you!! 👽🧸
I free styled a crescent scrappy shawl. Well, it is tear drop/crescent/triangle. Works pretty good worn upside down 😂😂
Glad it worked out after all! 🧶🧶🧶
Last year, I made my granddaughter an amigurumi mermaid. The head was so heavy with all the yarn hair, it kept flopping over! I ended up shoving a chopstick through the top of the head and down into the body. Since then, I’ve come across a few different RUclips videos on how to make yarn hair for amigurumi, so if I ever make another doll, I’ll have something to fall back on
Thanks for sharing! 🧜♀️
I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who tried to make acrylic washcloths!
Oh you're not the only one! 🧶🧶🧶
Thank you for sharing!! I'm a tight crocheter too!! 🧶🧶🧶
These are amazing. What I've learned is when you're using 4 weight yarn all your little mistakes are much more visible than size 5 yarn. So all these cute quick crochet amigarumi tutorials look easy until you try a smaller yarn
I love how you make lemonade out of “lemons”…although your lemons look really good!
Thank you! 🍋
Haha! Thank you for sharing! 😂
So 🥰 cute.
I love alien bear! I *love* him!
Thank you!! 👽🧸
Victor frog and alian bear are perfect and i will not hear a single word saying otherwise.
Thanks for sharing!! That was a good lesson to learn! I bet you knew the right and wrong sides form that day forward! 🧶🧶🧶
Love the alien bear 🥰 Reminds me of a blast from the past, the pen from Picture Pages!
Awww! Now that just brought back the song from Picture Pages!! 🎶
Very good advice! Thank you so much for sharing the lessons you've learned! 🧶🧶🧶
Ooh boy are you hard on your makes! So many of these projects look fine, and that bear is just adorable!
Thank you so much! ❤️
I think my worst projects are now as I only started crocheting a few weeks ago but every project is teaching something. It might teach me something basic, but it is teaching me.
That's the best way to look at it! Each project is a learning experience! 🧶🧶
He taught me a lot about amigurumi and my son couldn't care less about the imperfections 💙
pls the alien bear is too cute! give this little guy some credit (and arms)
My first C2C would have been 15’ 2.25” square…. I didn’t understand gauge or the balance between high detail and size in any kind of graphghan 😂
It's definitely a learning curve!! 🧶🧶🧶
My first afghan I made I did not pay attention to the dye lots and the cream I chose had different shades throughout.
Oh I've done that one too!! Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
It's so frustrating!! I always convince myself I'll remember and then I don't, lol! 😂
Great information 👍🏽 I can relate to the bride and groom situation bc I made a pink stuffy flower, posted on fb and peeps requested pattern and I cannot recall (remember is not a word for this old lady, RECALL 😂) how I made it and I have since sold it as well 🤦🏽♀️😳🤦🏽♀️
What’s a crocheted to do🤷🏽♀️
So yes, definitely take notes!

Oh what a cute project! I can see it in my mind!! 🌸 I feel your pain!!! 🧶🧶🧶
I messed up when I was making a turtle and used to small of string.
What a good friend! 🧶🧶🧶
Lol!! Now I want to see Derpy! I love both Tim Burton and Wes Craven! 🧶🧶🧶
I always enjoy your videos, and I thought your "mistakes" were actually pretty nice. I do think though, alien bear needs a hug! 😊
He does need a little hug!! 👽🧸
Years ago I crocheted a number of scarves and I did my own "design" in which, instead of anchoring the stitches by going through the top two loops, I only went through the one loop. These scarves took on a life of their own by growing, grooowing, grooowwwwing in length ahaha!
Lol!!! Thanks for sharing!! 🧶🧶🧶
Oh I love the alien bear so much, he's so precious and skrunkly
I just love this video. It's so real and so relatable. I still have my very first elephant where the truck shows so much stuffing 😂
