Probably the best DIY in it's price range for anyone without all the tools or space to start from a sheet of plywood. They really sound great and that transmission line bass has strength and texture that is addictive!
This diy speaker is something else. After hearing Neil’s work at Axpona I was shocked. Next year I hope to support Neil and build one of his models. Great take James.
Neil is an amazing guy! I bought the plans from him, and he was incredibly helpful with all my questions. The speakers sound absolutely fantastic-you can’t go wrong with this design. I highly recommend getting the flat pack if you're in the USA, or the plans if you're in another country. I'm truly grateful for all the support Neil provided!
Man, what a great video - I love how you're pulling in the community! Showing people what is possible with low cost speakers (better than most people's end game speakers, most likely). The icing on the cake is that Blanchard has a design using Linaeum tweeters; I've been saving a pair for just this! Good job!!!
Have to ask how they compared to the CSS TDX-1? It sounds like a good kit. Or rather plan and then you source the components. Madisound or Parts Express?
The SB Acoustics drivers are available from Madisound, and you can buy crossover parts from either Madisound or Parts Express - most of the clickable links are to one or the other; though you can buy parts from anywhere you choose to.
Okay ABX - Maybe build Niel's "Supertower" with Satori drivers? - Niel can fill you in on the details - When cutting this much wood - Why not just build be best for a little more? - Thanks
I have clickable links in the build manual. There are options to buy crossover parts from Parts Express, and if the crossover parts were packaged, then people could build it without buying the manual.
What are the differences between these and the 1tdx. I'm looking into both, and ive heard nothing but good things about both, but not a direct comparison thanks in advance mate
@@mattblake8514 1tdx are going to be more neutral, slightly more bass emphasis. Of course a much smaller footprint. The MLTL-6 I would say are more organic and rich, top end sweetness, more natural mid range. Both REALLY REALLY good for the money.
Just is what it is I suppose. I always chalk this stuff up to ART, the vision of the designer. One could router it out for a recess I suppose. Might be cool.
My guess would be helping the time alignment with the tweeter or simply ease of mounting. Due to the extension of the woofer surround and radiused edge of the speaker mount there is near zero chance of "edge diffraction" from the surface mounting. Using another choice of wood for the front baffle or a hardwood inlay around the woofer may improve the appearance. I'm sure Mr. Blanchard gives great thought every detail of his designs. I can't wait until I can afford to build one of his speaker designs. All the very best to you and yours.
@@welderfixertime alignment could be a factor, they made a very special cutout in the plywood for the driver so I´m sure there is a reason but it looks strange.
@ hmm are you saying one can use a substitute driver for that dipole tweeter? I didn’t want the regular dome. Actually im considering buying a PureAudio Duet 15-but if I could build a LDA baby baffle easy… I got no experience I would need help. But those baby baffles intrigue the hell out of me… I just have no clue about making crossovers… I guess I could buy a router… the Duet 15 are 21” wide and 41” high. I would love something only 37” high and 15” wide.
Algorithm... As much as I would like to try something like this, I simply do not have enough time. That takes nothing away however from this video. If someone has the time, go for it.
The internal baffles act as asymmetrical bracing, and there is a brace in the most critical spot. Because the terminus is open, there is much lower air pressure within the cabinet, which means the panels are not stressed as much.
Not sure the logic there, but ok… I’ve heard $5,000 speakers that did not sound as good, so it’s really about the sound is it not? Kinda what we’re here for. 😊👌😁
@@abxaudiophiles not at all. There are plenty of excellent audio choices for speakers and other equipment that are not thousands of dollars. More money does not always equal higher quality or better sound. If this looks like a good deal to you, great! I'm just saying this is not for me 🤷♂️ the best set of speakers I own are from the 1990's that I paid $350 for the pair. I don't expect that price today, but $1000 a pair is still too much.

This is what I’m all about. 👍

Thank you! There was a significant adjustment in the crossover after AXPONA.
Thank you! It’s worth the time and effort.
Yes, my version has the upgraded crossover per the new spec and link shared.

Madisound or Parts Express?
1TDX is going to be more neutral and detailed. Both great. ❤

Ok so far, I only know the title, havent fully watched this yet, but YES!! It CAN be this good! 😎
It can be good. 😊
@ it can! 😀
Been eyeing these for awhile. I have been waiting for reviews to give me an idea on how they sound.
Great review!
Thank you 🙏🏼. My pleasure.
If a flux capacitor was added into the speaker, would it look dope? Loving it!!
FAX...
I'd pay 2k if it had a flux capacitor inside a see through window with a 4c l.e.d in it. 😉

I suppose it’s all in what the consumer is looking for. 👌👌😊😊
One of my favorites from Axpona 2024. Well done!
Thanks Nick.
Amazing!
Why doesn’t Madisound have complete Neil Blanchard driver and crossover packages ?
@@markmancuso8769
Not sure, I do know Neil produces all flat packs as they’re ordered. 👌. IIRC

If I didn’t have Maggie’s, I would build those
Heck yea!
It bothers me the mid/bass driver is not flush mounted. Is there a reason for it? Makes the complete design look cheap 🤷♂️

Dear Santa...........
Any freq. response measurements, I don't see any.
He’s got most the stuff on his website. Otherwise reach out to him. As I said, he’s also in our discord. 😊👌
I almost did it-but the dipole tweeter has ferro fluid problems… I wanted to do the dipole… oh well.
That’s what great, good options. 👌👌

Well said.. ;)
What a steal for the $. Jump on them if you DIY.
Totally.. Loving these speakers!
I wouldn't put the wheels on my car and install the seats and windscreen to save a few bucks. 😄
I’d be wary of putting a steering wheel on without checking the alignment. 😉
👍!👍 👍

Plenty of bracing you said ? Humm....not really, I would screw & glue bracing on every internal join. And for info 89,5 Db / 4,5 Ohms.
It’s a transmission line speaker. Internal pressures are not the same. Plenty of bracing as I said. Cheers. 🍻
