@@HearBetweenTheLines 24 (and 12) is unique in this pattern of moving every note in a chord up or down independently leaves you with a consonant chord. That's why I love 24 so much. 22 and a few others give you a really cool effect where you can change two notes of a triad and sustain one and you stay consonant. 31 is something like "if one goes up one step the others go down two steps" (I think it's that way around)
@@FASTFASTmusic The great thing about 31 is that it's so versatile, sometimes you can pivot, sometimes it also works with moving both voices a diesis, it's really depends. But yeah, 24 is amazing.
Hahaha, not really, to be honest, but I'm talking a lot to e.g. Mike Battaglia, who thinks a lot in these terms :) Would you mind explaining about group theory and card games? db
Yeah! Group theory is a part of a branch of math called abstract algebra, which I think of as ‘meta math’. It’s kind of like the math you use to get at why math works. Honestly this video will explain it a million times better than I could (but if u watch and have questions I’m happy to answer!): m.ruclips.net/video/g7L_r6zw4-c/видео.html&pp=iAQB Another longer, but also really interesting and friendly video talking about what group theory is about, and done by a channel close to the hearts of STEM folk: m.ruclips.net/video/mH0oCDa74tE/видео.html&pp=ygUYVGhlIG1vbnN0ZXIgZ3JvdXAgdGhlb3J5 You guys have made a kind of triad algebra. The entire board is a “group”, and these 6 movements would be “transformations” (or “operators” in my preferred lingo). Opposite directions eg < and > are “inverses” of each other. In 24 equal, you can get within 19 cents of a 7/4. Better than the 31 cents difference of 12 equal at least. Scala: equal 24 set tolerance 0.756 show location 7/4
We don't really feel that 950 cents sounds like a harmonic 7th, even though mathematically you are absolutely correct, that's why we left it out of the intro :)
Thanks a lot! :) Yes you may - my dear friend and luthier Thomas Thämlitz ( www.holzblut.de ) is the wizard who made it. It's actually got exchangeable fretboards, so I can play any TET system on it :)
Im so glad there are people making such quality educational content about microtonal music. You guys are making it so accessable
Thanks so much
I simply don't have words to describe the importance of your channel and how incredible the quality is.
Daniel, that makes us very, very happy, indeed. It's a ton of work and we really appreciate comments like yours!
@@HearBetweenTheLines inspiring me so much on 31 TET, I had a 31 TET acoustic guitar made for me
Thank you for explaining how I write my music!
Which is why we're such big fans, J!

@@HearBetweenTheLines I did another one in 31 just because of this video
Have you guys also dabbled in mathematics? This is straight up group theory and it’s beautiful.

Nice. If we introduce the 7th or more tensions, it's able to make more pattern of modulations!
Totally, it get multidimensional then!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Your content has given me inspiration and understanding beyond belief in microtonal theory. I have no idea what I'd do without yall
That makes us so happy, Nick, thanks for your heartfelt comment
I soloed over those changes :>
This is a neat idea for a game!
My new favorite YT channel. 🎵 ❤ 🎶 ❤
Wohooo, what an honour :) Glad to have you on board!
I've always thought that it'd be awesome to learn to play harmony on a fretless guitar.
Haha! Enormously frustrating, but probably worthwhile in the long run ;)
Truly inspiring, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The boys are back!

We'd love to play this "Game of Tones" - how do we get a copy?
What is that keyboard?
It's called a Lumatone :D
Love it ❤🎉

C major to B-half-sharp major?
I would like to believe that there is a more advanced civilisation in this universe that prints that triangle on their dollar bills.
Interesting, a more advanced civilisation would still use money?
sadly, I don't have a partner for this kind of game :(
Aww, don't lose hope! Just join the Xenharmonic Alliance on fb and/or become a Patron of ours! There are lots of people interested in this stuff!

I appreciate the comment, but to be honest, I don't quite understand it, sorry! Care to explain? :)
Will this game appear on board game arena, lol?
Haha, what's that? :)
Could you show this guitar more calmly, it is extremely interesting
I will at some point soon pay my luthier a visit and make a video about it!

You need male long hair to talk about microtones.
Follicles have genitalia...? Haha
For real, though, we'd love to see more women join the microtonal movement!
I love what you guys are doing with this channel. May I ask who made the 24tet acoustic guitar you are playing?
Thanks a lot! :)
