- The hard climb of Copy Pit would prove a firm test for many a steam loco and it's crews with the 1 in 68 gradient on one side and around 1 in 70 on the other . Locos seen are 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe ,70000 Britannia, 46100 Royal Scot ,60163 Tornado and 45562 Alberta ( Galatea in disguise ) Most shots are seen near the summit , Holme Chapel and Portsmouth .

Excellent panoramic shots. Fabulous film. Fantastic work Steve, well done 🤓💙
Thanks Anthony, always difficult to pan on this route but I just about managed it ok 👍
Great shots and locations. Steam in the landscape indeed! As a Pompey boy born and bred it's interesting to see the "other" Portsmouth.
Fantastic. Once again, a masterclass of how to film trains as part of the landscape with a real eye for compositional balance. Thanks so much.
Thanks Gerard , my pleasure and I’m pleased you enjoyed the video 👍
Superb Steve, I remember going over that line behind 'Ollie Cromwell' in April 1968.
Great shots Steve, not many steam trips over copy pit these days, Nice to see Alberta on the cotton Mills express, i had a great day on board the tour that day, cheers SB .
Thanks Steve, thankfully Saphos are using this route more often so that’s good if things ever get back to normal.
Brilliant compilation Steve. Great selection of locos at work. Really liked that last clip. Fantastic location. Kind regards C&A
Thanks C&A, often an underestimated line I reckon so it’s good to see steam over that way again more often.
Excellent collection Steve, and some great locations for the Loco's to work hard, cheers nige
Thanks Nige , always a good show over the Pit in all sorts of weather.
Lovely. Some smashing scenery in some of the clips
Thanks for the kind comment as it’s much appreciated 👍
Fabulous video in some different weather scenes thanks again nicely done ✅.
Thanks Philip, pleased you enjoyed the video 👍
Good selection Steve, one of the best routes I think for hard working steam locos with great scenery
Thanks Austin, your so right as you have far more footage than me of this wonderful line that’s for sure.
Stunning compilation Steve. Nice one. Cheers, Dave.
Thanks Dave , not filmed that line often enough sadly .
Super-scenic locations, and when you filmed from the hilltops looking down to the valleys below you have got a kind of amphitheatre-effect for the sound of the locos! Great stuff!
Great vid Steve love the first shot with all those cars parked up, would have liked to have gone there in steam days cheers Steve ..
Thanks Steve, yes a time machine is needed I reckon 👍
That 12 coach load behind Tornado is enormous, I’m surprised that was attempted (and succeeded!) 1:65 with a 15mph starting speed at the bottom isn’t for the faint hearted.
Sometimes it surprises me that this Railway was built as it is. If most of it was in a tunnel of 2 to 3 miles long it would be arrow straight and much faster. But being as it is with the severe gradients on either side means it’s a great scenic line!
Thanks Nigel, yes it’s a very twisty scenic route that thankfully is seeing more steam tours on it these days 👍
I’ve been giving some of the steam videos, from all sources, a miss of late, but this was well viewing. Thanks Steve.
Thanks Jim , glad you enjoyed the footage 👍
that is a place ive always wanted to get mainline steam
Splendid compilation Stephen and great performances from all loco's featured. Plenty spots to choose from. Thanks.👍👍
Thanks David, it’s good that steam tours are running more often on that route now .
Wonderful collection Steve :)
Cheers Simon 👍
Wonderful filming as always, Steve. Just a pity about the diesel hanging off the end of the “Scot’s” train, otherwise, perfection! Many thanks
Thanks Martin, yes it was odd they had the 47 on 46100 and not on 70000 .
Wonderful
Thanks for the kind comment 👍
Great stuff, Steve - and what a lot of cars! Makes AisGill look like a kiddies playground!
Thanks Alan, yes that’s the busiest I’ve seen it in the 1st clip but Alberta was pretty close second.
Super shots on Copy Pit Stephen
When did you film the Castle?
Thanks enjoyed the compilation
Brian (third engineer)
Thanks Brian , it was filmed in 2011 👍
Thanks Stephen
Where is Copy Pit? Not a place name apparently known to OS or Google
