I was 18 when the dreamcast came out and I rented the console 4 or 5 times. Shenmue forced me to buy the system. I imported it from japan. One of the best consoles ever made. The sports titles forced EA to buy out the madden series. 😔😔
Glad you shared this Spawn Wave. I want the HD capability with the Dreamcast but I don't want the GDEMU. I wish SEGA would totally recreate the Dreamcast in HDMI so gamers can play their physical games on it. I don't want to see a Dreamcast Mini, just recreate the hardware in HDMI.
Oh, do tell. I just bought a MINT Condition Launch Edition Dreamcast for $82.00 with 2 games and a demo disc, original controller that looks in really good shape. I also have in my posession a DCHDMI kit for it already. So i would love to know what else can be done to this underrated Console.

Brilliant tech video Jon(SW). The Ultimate Sega Dreamcast looks absolutely amazing :-D 👍. I am definitely up for a Sega Saturn and Dreamcast Minis :-).

@@jedimaster12100 Oh that was definitely sarcasm, he could have made it more clear by saying devolving but come on does anyone really think 30 frames is better than 60?! (Besides people who own switches who are clearly delusional) I believe it was the PS360 era that started the whole console trend of better graphics but lower frame rates. 60 fps has been rare and was elusive for most of that time and definitely has been for the PS4/XBone era, hell even the pro and X struggle with it.
Aw man, the price of the required components is a bit steep for me currently. But as someone who has never modded a console, this is something I'd love to try...
Honestly, even when you are confident enought to make one of these mods (like I am, and I guess Spawn is) doing these kind of mods are very time consuming, and I would not do it more than 1 time, unless they pay me more than 200 US per instalation.
New sub here I am glad that your doing things I wish I had confidence to do. I like this video because you show what it means to have nostalgia and love for such things. I bought my dreamcast when it was first released in Jpn and it still is in mint condition minus the orange box it was in (old man dad didn't protect it correctly in storage) but overall I had such a great experience with it as many did when I had house parties or events. That little box of love did its job until corporate messed up and left consumers here and in the UK hanging hard. Jpn was still holding on but eventually couldn't due to not have global revenue intact. Fast forward and now with Sega in the business of software as overall profit I hope they make use of the current status and make a mini Sega Saturn mini dreamcast to make up for the owners especially for us that took the punch in gut for them as they left us after. Good job and enjoy the classics!
I use OSSC and set of VGA cable instead of HDMI. The GDEMU is super easy to install with basic knowledge. Overall great way to extend the life of Dreamcast gaming.
Tony hawk was not only a great games to play but great games for finding new music. up till underground i love the soundtracks as much as the games same with need for speed up till undercover but with ea and activision publishing these series and how money grubing they are now even if they did make new ones they be husk of there former greatness.

I actually want a remake trilogy of each series tony hawk 3, 4, and underground and need for speed underground 2 most wanted and carbon i easy pay $60 for ether of these.
I'd just like to see more games from that era get updated and sequels. I mean like where is power Stone 3?! The PSP got a collection of both 1&2 and that was it no other console has gotten those games since.
Scanlines are what hides a *lot* of aliasing in games, it wasn't so much the blurriness of CRT - that was down to composite cables - as RGB/SCART/VGA looks absolutely incredible and crisp. CRTs used scanlines and the way that came out helps the overall image due to the way your brain automatically fills in and extrapolates missing data. Effectively scanlines are MISSING pixels, just pure black, but our brains extrapolate and fill it in to give the overall image even greater clarity and detail. Without scanlines (without CRT, basically) you're left with the cleanest, crispest, image, but also all the aliasing that comes with early low-res 3D :( The DCHDMI may be shockingly expensive, but it at least has an incredible hardware-based scanline functionality. I strongly recommend enabling scanlines pretty much permanently :D Also, in regards to Soul Calibur; the Dreamcast version was actually SUPERIOR to the arcade version, since the arcade was still running on the older Soul Edge/Blade engine, whereas the DC release was improved with a new engine and better visuals. Great stuff!
I guess I got prematurely excited to watch this. Definitely want to do this to my Dreamcast which is currently collecting dust in my closet, but I'm not currently in a position to blow $170+ to mod it. Definitely don't think I could solder that ribbon cable without potentially messing something up.
@@huntern64 I'm still trying to decide between 6 and 9 feet as the 3 foot one is way short. But yeah more people should definitely know about that thing. oh I wonder if that would take care a lot of the aliasing in a lot of switch games? I bet it would at least docked.
