However I have lots of coworkers in anesthesia that is rooting for me and constantly encourage me to make that transition. Omg 😢 your story gave me chills. Thank you for sharing. Glory to God! ….similar story here! 🤚🏾 I didn’t interview well for my residency job as a new grad due to nerves. I went to Med/Tele and stayed one year too long. I moved to the Intermediate Stepdown on a “promise” that I’d get an ICU position. Then COVID hit so no preceptors. (Fast forward) Took a position on a CVU floor with active intentions to move to their ICU. After 6+ months, I (having 5 yrs experience & 18 yrs Respiratory experience) was passed over yet again for a 1 year new grad. But I was very competent to take care of their ICU patients during COVID on their unit without training. Hmmm.
I left there and stepped into a wonderful 🫀 ICU…working on getting my CCRN & retaking a few sciences.

I have never made a comment on RUclips before but today I will. Only a black person can understand the mental energy you have to have to deal with certain people. It took me 2 years to get in an ICU. Applied to CV twice l, they didn’t even call me back . When emailed them I was told I wasn’t ready to be in ICU. I was on a cardiac step down unit for 2 years I don’t know what else they wanted from me. They were hiring new Grads meanwhile. That’s ok.
I eventually got an ICU job and today I was accepted into a CRNA school.
I don’t know you but I am proud of you!!!

I am so glad I found this channel!!! I am finishing up my pre-req’s to apply for an ADN program this May. This would be a second career for me. I will be 42 in October and started out in college majoring in Nursing back in 1999 but let fear and rejection stop me. I finished my bachelors in health care administration in 2004 and also my MBA a few years later in 2008. After multiple jobs that I hated, I decided to finally pursue my lifelong goal of becoming a nurse and eventually a CRNA. I started letting my age and many other factors deter me, but I REFUSE to let another year go by and I am not a Registered Nurse. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for sharing your story.

@AW thank you so much for subscribing and your kind words! I say go for your dreams. Don't stand in your own way. The most important thing is to get the best grades you can while in nursing school. Everything else kind of falls into place (with a plan). Only you can work on your self-doubt but I trust you are fully capable of being a CRNA if that's what you really want to do. There's a saying: "“There are people less qualified than you, doing things you want to do, because they believe in themselves and take action.” It's true! All you have to do is believe in yourself :) Good luck.

I appreciate that and thank you for watching! I plan to do a video on financing CRNA school soon. I was hesitant for that reason as well especially since I'm still paying on my first degree. I will be financing most of my education from loans. Although I applied to a few schools, most of the schools had programs for less than $100K. A lot, yes, but I came across one that was $225K! The starting pay of a CRNA makes paying the loans doable if done right. A lot of nurses also do travel nursing before school. Since you're just starting out and already have a plan, you have a good amount of time to save. Good luck in your journey!

Thank you, Corey :) When did you first become interested in becoming a CRNA? I plan to do a video that will cover all of those things but the shortened version is that from what I've noticed (listening to others stories and taking mine into consideration) is that most schools look at the applicant in their entirety. Each part (grades, experience, scores, certifications) are all pieces of the puzzle. You may be strong in a few categories but weaker in another and still get in. I would say my weak spot was the GRE but some schools don't even consider it. You may find www.all-crna-schools.com to be helpful. It was one of my favorite sites while applying. Good luck in your journey. If your history is any indication, you'll do well.
