People really don't understand how evil adults can be to their kids. Brilliant title. I wish Jennette all the best; this is a story that needs to be told.
Yes her story needs to be told
Respectfully💯
Jennette said she was the family breadwinner. Her mom forced her into showbiz to support the family (like Bella Thorne) and it wasn't fun for her.
Yup exactly like the MJ accusers who used their kids to take his money. Bunch of scums.
My mom were so close growing up. I mean so close, I would sit on the toilet or floor of the bathroom while she showered, sometimes she’d take me to work worth her during her overnight shift and I’d sleep in the break room. It wasn’t until before her death I started to piece together, the abuse and terrible things she did my entire childhood. And it wasn’t until after she died, I learned about all of her lies and hated her. With time that’s passed, I’ve learned to forgive most of what she’s done. But if given the choice to bring her back to life, I wouldn’t.
She is a PROFESSIONAL! The way she spun her way out of the messy Nickelodeon question? Exceptional.
YASSS PROUD OF THAT
ikr
I'm surprised he worded the question so bluntly... Can't Nickelodeon sue for that question?? I don't even think he said "allegedly"
The news network clearly pushed him to push that question. Her 180 back on it was perfect.
I was just sitting here going "smart, very smart response". Great way to answer that question.
She’s very carefully crafting her replies and avoiding certain questions. she’s brilliant
She is fantastic. Her sharp wit and irresistible charm elevated her Nickelodeon shows to such a high level. But yes, she has to be quite careful with these responses. She shouldn't have to be.....but that is the world we live in.
ok
ok
She doesn’t want to get sued by Dan Schnieder, guaranteed
Is that a sign of brilliance? Because Kamala Harris and Joe Biden and Karine Jean-Pierre all do the same thing.
She had more finesse in handling the questions on her own terms than more seasoned vets. I never watched her show, nor did I have an abusive mother but I support the title of her book & I'm so glad that in writing it she has started her journey to healing. All the best to her.
It’s because she’s forgiven herself and it shows. The more you heal, the less you become defensive because you’ve already had that conversation with yourself. It shows how big of a person she is. I am so proud of her and I don’t even know her.
She’s doing the right thing by telling the truth about what she went through while she was on Nickelodeon for the past six years. I’m glad that Miranda, Nathan, and Jerry are supporting her as she went through so much trauma. The title of the book is very shocking but tells the audience why she quit acting.
The title ain't too shocking once you learn about how Jennette's mom was. A monster
they never supported her
IIRC, Jennette never wanted to be an actress. Her mom forced her into showbiz to support the family and it wasn't fun for her.

@@broombromden498 parental abuse is when the parent(s) inflict harm onto said child or children, project ur illiterate words onto someone else loll
The marketing of her book is genius. Perfectly summarized the feelings of what she went through and how she felt coming out the other side, and is a great eye grabber. If I’m in a bookstore and see a book called “I’m glad my mother is dead” I’m forsure picking it up to learn more lol.
Same! I never watched her show, but I had tor read her book.
The fact that her brothers are supportive of the book speaks volumes. Proves how awful the emotional, verbal, & physical abuse was.
I completely commend her. Parental abuse is a real thing. Child industry abuse is a real thing. Healing is a process and that fact she is healing is a huge accomplishment.
Now days it's much worse with all the tik-tok moms, youtube family vloggers and "mom-fluencers"
There aren't even laws to protect these children that are literally working since before they are born (pregnancy announcements, gender reveal and baby shower videos, baby mama dances🙄) then it's the labor vlog, day in the life of a newborn.. etc... The fact that she was able to say that she misses her mom shows that she has healed. People can be abusive and you can have good memories at the same time. It’s so hard but I support her talking about it and working towards her own happiness.
I'm sure this is the case with her. But also, certain kinds of emotional abuse can leave a person longing for the abuser for an unusually long time. If they're very bad for you, and you keep thinking about how much you cared about them, you might need to remind yourself about the bad times, so you don't put yourself in danger again.
Of course thats her mom so thats a given she'd miss her being here
@@Sarcasticron This! It hits close to home. I contemplated suicide for years & eventually attempted suicide from the continued emotional abuse & manipulation of my parent. I established minimal contact with my parent but also there's this longing for connection. I always have to remind myself of the bad times in order to protect myself since this person still treats me the same way as an adult. Being an empathic person with a narcissistic parent is not fun :( I'm healing though :)
good to hear that Sara! My Dad S.A. ed me when I was 12. He was a heavy drinker and smoker. He died from alcohol poisoning when I was ~16.
I strive to get to that level of forgiveness. It's a tricky thing. One day I'd say I've forgiven my dad, but the next day I wanna fly back to where he's at and kill him for what he's done to me.

I think the people who are offended by the title have never been abused by their mother, plain and simple. But those are the same people who have NO right to tell survivors of child abuse how to feel. They have no idea what it’s like.
Hello crystal how are you doing
Yes broken and toxic families are hard for a lot of people to understand it one thing to just not like you family but when they abuse you it another story.
I've never been abused by my mother but I can understand enough and not be offended by it.
I’m not offended by the title but I think about my mom and she was so giving and selfless. She’s passed like Jeannette’s mom, but I can see why she feels that way. Her mom wasn’t there for her, it’s a response to that. However it’s understandable why people are shocked by the title, I couldn’t say that about my mom as I was blessed with a terrific mother.
That, or they're mothers abusing their kids and don't want to be held accountable.

Yeah but her allegations against him are consistent with what other child actors and their parents have alleged about him over the years. She really is my idol at this very moment sometimes some people don’t understand or know the pain some of us go through especially if it involves family issues
I'm reading this book right now and am really enjoying it but also shocked by how horrible her mother was. As someone who was abused as a child and also had a very narcissistic and emotionally abusive female warden, I relate to the title 100%! Jennette is a very strong and smart person. I am so glad she is sharing her story so that children of abuse don't feel alone and can see that we can heal and get past that pain.

I’m so glad she has come out with this while SHE is comfortable with it. All forms of parental abuse are not alright and this book can help people get passed that. Even with abuse we can still miss our parents but that doesn’t mean that sometimes we still can’t be happy that they are gone because truly it can be a happy thing at times. Much love for Jennette💛
You are amazing. A survivor and thriving despite the pain and confusion. You make others see they can heal. Thank you for your honesty, grace and brilliance.
$300,000 for years worth of trauma that will never go away? How sick. I’m glad she’s actually coming out and talking about it and what goes on in networks like this because it’s not talked about enough. She speaks so well in interviews. I like her advice of facing the struggles. Everyone’s traumas are different, so it wouldn’t be fair to give advice to everyone the same, but saying that facing the struggles helps with healing is so true
I am so happy to see Jennette like this. She looks so happy and calm, she truly has healed. As a person who struggles with their own mental health issues this gives me so much hope that maybe one day I can be at peace as well. Opening up about things that make you feel embarrased or scared isn't an easy thing but facing them is the only way to cope. A few years ago she said she's done with acting but now she's considering it. THAT shows growth. I'm glad to see she's getting the love and attention she deserves and even if we might not see her on screen, just knowing that she's doing well is enough.
It's a very moving and painful book. As someone with parents and other family members who have NPD, it was even healing for me to read it. She's truly a talented writer with so much insight and power. I feel so much pride for her and a certain siblinghood from a stranger who's been through similar things. She really put the work in therapy, resilience, her former jobs, survival and into crafting her art. Very happy for her.
As a grown victim of narcissistic abuse from a parent, I applaud her for speaking her truth. Society has such a big emphasis on loving your parents unconditionally but that’s pretty much impossible when one or both parents have abused you in any way. It changes the make-up of your brain, as when you’re a child you’re constantly absorbing information and learning how to survive in your environment. When the home is not a safe environment, that can have detrimental consequences later in teenhood and adulthood. Good for her.
Verbal and mental abuse can often be just as damaging to your psyche as physical abuse. My father was a manipulative and controlling alcoholic. Not only was I abused behind the scenes but my father abused me in front of the state of California as a child. Never been more hopeless then at that time
Awh long story but me too I was basically told to follow this family member! Believe in what he believes is right ! & was criticized if I was to hang with my cousins and certain family always saying you were talkin ish about me with them huh? I looked past his evil ways! & even forgave em when he planned to kill me!

I was so paranoid even in hotels miles and miles away!
Was so tough to kick the things he taught me
Even now I find myself wanting to forgive but no!

Well we are all living together at this time! Happy as hell love my nieces and he will never get close to none of us again!

We are in a new age where children don't rule over us anymore. And if you are against it. Be prepared to be called out for antisemitism

I love how she handled this interview! My fave part is when he starts to try to press her about the $300,000 to get more info and two different times very calmly she made him back off and let him know she's not speaking about that. long story short if you want to know about it read the book.... and I will.
That interviewer is quite insidious, he wants the juice of the book be spilled over national TV, especially if it's something damaging towards a rival media conglomerate: Viacom.
The book has been through multiple reviews and her comments about Nickelodeon in it were probably very carefully chosen. Saying things on television, where she has no control over how it’s edited, could land her in a lot of trouble. It’s good that she didn’t let the interviewer get away with that.
@@schris3 Let's be honest. EVERYONE wants to see the juice spilled. No matter who you are, this coming to light is important and Nick deserves to go bankrupt. I'm sure it would hurt some of her cohorts though which is why she won't.
The ‘Creator’ was Dan Schneider. It’s becoming more widely known that he sexually abused her and Ariana Grande, as well as other child actors on other Nickelodeon shows he wrote and produced. It was later that Nickelodeon finally cut ties with him due to allegations. Ariana Grande will not speak out about the abuse but others have. The $300k was so that she wouldn’t out him openly and directly, but as she said she turned it down and has already implicated him and his abuse on her Twitter.
She's already been traumatized enough; there's no need making her relive that again. good for her for sticking up for herself.
She’s been through a lot we all grew up watching her on Nickelodeon. And everyone has been through something especially abuse and it takes a lot of courage to talk about it everyone has a story to tell
Not everyone grew up in abusive homes.
This is her reality. People don't want to hear hard truths about a suffering child. I'm glad she spoke out. I wish her well.

Honestly good for her for sticking to her guns and not answering the big headline questions, you can tell her book is obviously more than those headlines, and that tells alot about her character. I wish her nothing but the best!
I totally relate to her. I wasn't a child actor, but my mom projected all of her own insecurities on me. She was a bully my entire life. But then she would love bomb me maybe twice a year telling me how amazing I am. I almost wish she never did that, because it was hard to actually feel my true feelings towards her without being swayed by those handful of times she was overly nice. It took me until I was 23 to realize I was not treated like a normal child should be treated. I would stand by her side for years after my brother emancipated himself at 16 and hasn't talked to her in over 10 years now. Therapy and being treated with kindness and respect from my friends and even just the general public made me realize she was not normal. Why are strangers at starbucks being nicer to me than my mom? Why are coworkers asking how I am but my mom hasnt called me in 8 months? She didn't have a husband to nag at or complain about, so she made her kids her enemy. She treated us like a woman treats her husband that she can't stand, she couldn't wait for us to leave. I think when my mom passes, there will be grief there for the mom I wish I had and saw glimpses of once in a blue moon, but there will be a huge sense of relief and I'll feel like I can breathe for once in my life.
Kenzie, you sound like you’re free from your mother’s mental prison. I am so happy for you and glad you have friends and coworkers to show you real friendship and kindness and even just basic decency. Hope you and your brother are closer these days.
I feel your heart in this and while I’m sorry you went through this, I’m so happy that you were able to experience the difference because so many just continue on the cycle. I’m praying for your mom and your daily period. Some people get broken when they are young and grow up not knowing no other way to live or be. And while you have those people, there are people like you who refuse to repeat the brokenness. You are strong and deserving of love and joy.
I relate to you! My mom was very manipulative and mentally abusive. Told me before that she wished she had aborted me. I’m 28 and still don’t have a real relationship with her nor any of my siblings. I’m the youngest of 5. I think when it’s her time to pass on I won’t even be sad. She was never really there she made sure I was well taken care of. But I never got hugs from her as a kid I barely was told that I was loved. I think apart of her feels very guilty how she has treated me because we can go the whole year just about without talking. Mothers day I sent her a text instead of calling because she was always very mean to me and I never thought that she was that great of a mother.. Everyone always wanted my mom to be theirs she put on such a front on how our relationship was to our family and friends. I got the occasional affection from her but maybe a few times a year. Because of my relationship with her and the torment from my siblings and bullying I will be starting therapy very soon. You are not alone. Stay strong!
Thank you for sharing this with us
I can relate 💯%! Thank you for sharpening this. For me the healing began after my mom passed. You’ll find your way.

I've only started the book but, this and many other books have taught me how important it is, to as much as possible, self actualize prior to having children, as to prevent a parent from trying to rewrite their own trauma via the life of their child i.e. living through them. This isn't always plausible given generational trauma and economic factors, but I am realizing, as I may be a father one day, that the best gift I can give to my child is guided autonomy. Of course they are going to be dependent on me as children- that's just nature. But I can't abuse this power I have because it's for my child's well being- not my own. Thank you Jennette, for reinforcing this through your story. You are a special lady.

I’m so glad that she’s coming out with this. When I was a child living in an abusive home situation, I loved watching iCarly and Sam & Cat to distract myself.
