If you need a compact drill/driver and you're looking at DeWalt I highly suggest the DCD800. It's the non-hammer version of the DCD805. If you need the hammer function then you need a bigger drill anyway.
Amen... hammer drills are often useless for concrete used in modern buildings, get the smaller DCD800 as a drill driver and then get an SDS rotary hammer for concrete, even the cheapest crap will do better than a DCD805.
People complaining about the vents of a drill being covered up sound like Apple with the whole "you're holding it wrong" thing. It's pretty much a given that you use a drill with both hands. Lots of people have large hands and lots of people wear heavy gloves, while the drills are only getting smaller. If a drill's performance is in any way affected by how I'm holding it then as far as I'm concerned it's a bad design. If anything I'd love to see our host cover them up as much as he can so if there are inherent issues with overheating we'd be alerted.
@@TheAhhleena The 799 is the hammer drill version of the 794,which is the lower powered, lower speed Atomic model. The 805 is the hammer version of the 800 drill driver, which are premium drills delivering 90nm of torque...almost that of the DCD996,but in a much more compact form.
Bought the 794 last spring or so, have had no problems at all. I don't use it everyday all day, it's in my truck to use when needed. Bought it at home depot in canada, $69.00, that's like $50.00 us, drill, 1, 1.3 battery, charger and bag........
Great follow-up video on this series. Becoming more compact every Gen. My 796 continues to serve me well under regular DIY conditions. Though I have asked it to do 1" in concrete and did it. If I were starting out, I'd have confidence in this drill.
Thanks Brian, I don’t like the plastic Chuck surrounds but love the compact size. Would you choose the 799 over the 805 for your choice of compact Dewalt hammer drill?
I know my DCD777 beats the DCD708 atomic, despite having the same specs. I had considered getting the 791 because it seems like the bigger body drills don’t get as hot.
Isn't the 799 rated at up to 552 UWO while the 794 is up to 404 UWO? I guess that's why the hammerdrill performs slightly better than the drill/driver.
Thanks for the informative video. Dealt seems to have a glut of powerful compact drills these days. Another comparison video would be great. Like how do these compare to the 805?
I don't have a ton of corded tools, but most of them are Dewalt. At the same time I have an absurd amount of cordless tools from several different battery systems. How many of my cordless tools are Dewalt? None. And that's my confidence level.
Showing your ignorance there. As a contractor for 10 years I have 90% dewalt cordless, in 10 years I've had 1 impact driver, 1 battery and 1 oscillating tool die out of 30 batteries, 6 impact drivers and 4 oscillating tools that's a very good reliability rating considering I used these tools a lot in all weathers. I get at least 5 years out of a hand tool with very heavy use.
@@vontrap6942 When you spread out your usage over so many similar tools and still end up with a 20% failure rate (2 out of 10 tools failed) then it's either that the tools are bad or your math is bad. Paying Makita prices for a rebadged Black & Decker is a lot more ignorant than anything I've said.
Ive consolidated all of my carpentry tools to dewalt flex volt. I do a lot of homeowner stuff with them , cabinet shop work , custom mini cabin builds and commercial showroom build outs. Dewalt just never disappoints but I am interested in a stubby hammer drill for right space work in the showrooms. Many of them have poured concrete ceiling in high rises that require steel studs to be attached to concrete ceilings. We usually use corded Bosch hammer drills for this but we have used cordless dewalt hammer drills successfully but never a compact hammer drill. Could have used one many times.
It wasn't a fluke this guy does honest testing a lot of these tool testers are dishonest and are doing it to get free tools, mostly from the Chinese owned Milwaukee and Flex
I would like to see the little one used to make holes in steel, Im pretty sure they just make these for compact use, not so much for heard work, cabinets and such Id use one maybe to drill with some short brill bits if it fit any where. 👍 I work on cars
Just bought it to hang my led lights and other stuff around the crib and it’s nice dude It really does have power and I only paid $100 battery drill and charger included
Follow up: I received my replacement 794 from DeWalt today. I ran it through its paces and it’s functioning normally. Good on DeWalt for the excellent CS.
Why’re you testing a hammer drill with spade bits on wood. It’s not even made for that. You can use an impact for that. Hammer drills are for masonry and concrete, test it there.
An impact for spade bits? Hammer drills not made for wood? Sure, they have the hammer function, but they still operate identically to a regular drill driver.
I’m not sure what exactly this “hole drilling frenzy” really proves. What’s the battery charge level, is the density of the board uniform, what’s the sharpness of the drillbits, how hard are you pressing on the drill, are you using the correct speed for the right material, etc.? If it drills 50 holes, is that good? Is that better than the competition? Or worse?
Thanks again for another thorough video. Dewalt has been killing it with their new tools! Except.... their impacts still suck! The new xr they released is the biggest dissapointment! Their only decent impact is the atomic

805 doubles them 😂😂
I think the new Atomic Hammerdrill compares more favorably with the previous XR compact hammerdrill (DCD796)
I'm trying to figure out the same. how does the 805 compare to the 799

Wondering if you’re gonna do a comparison between dcd793 & dcd798?
They are the same drills as these, just sold at a different store.
do these compacts allow a extented handle accessory? looks ready for wrist pain!!!!
If your looking for something more heavy duty and similar price point I'd suggest the DCD805, got mine tool only for $119 CAD
If you do something more heavy duty you would probably go Milwaukee, Makita or Bosch instead. Dewalt is great for amateurs though
@@aliancemdWhat would you get in Milwaukee, Makita or Bosch at a similar price that would be as good as these Dewalt drills 🧐
You just get used to the "De-wobble" after a while; out of the box I know pretty much all Dewalt drills have the run-off.
