Flying from Little River to Boonville in the Tecnam P2006T in Microsoft Flight Simulator

  • When I did the cursory "first look" at the Tecnam P2006T last week, I really didn't do it justice - so today I'm working through the checklist from end-to-end, and flying a route. It's a wonderfully simulated aircraft. Note - I know I forgot to turn the fuel pumps off :) I'm terrible at multi-tasking :)
And hat-tip for the email that reminded me that some aircraft in the simulator demand a little more consideration than others :)

I really love all of your videos. They all have a very good balance between information and entertainment. If the title says "First look..." that usually means this will not be a tutorial but an overview what this airplane is all about. In my oppinion it is totally OK to take some shortcuts in procedures or checklists sometimes. There is a reason a lot of planes are operated by a crew onboard and a ground crew, not by a single pilot. After all it is a simulation and there are all kinds of limitations compared to real life.

I couldn't agree more Tommy. That said, for my personal viewing habits, I probably would prefer the "First Look" approach. I am more of one of those kind of flyers who prefers a faster and maybe more fun flying style to just jump in, set the flight plan and go. My personal comment to Jonathan, is keep making both kinds of videos to cater to the both styles of flying. I wouldn't want to see just the more in-depth videos based on just one email received.

My computer is away getting a major upgrade, so I'm passing the time looking at videos. This plane looks very nice and I'll probably buy it. Very good in depth video by the way. To add my two cents to the first look vs in depth videos, I must say I like the latter better, mostly because I don't consider X-plane and MSFS to be "games". I like to fly the aircrafts well, as they should be flown. This said, I often bypass the tests, because I don't implement failures, if available. For example, when I was flying real piston aircraft, I of course did the magnetos checks religiously. I even brought a rental plane back to the FBO when the RPM drop was greater than normal! But in the sim I skip this and other tests. So I'm ok with shortcuts, but the most important thing to me is that things be done in the correct order. Fuel pump on before starting the engine! The videos I really can't stand are those having "tutorial" in the title, but done by people who have no idea of how to really fly a plane and do everything wrong! I would have some examples, which I will keep to myself, to "protect the innocent". I like your videos Jonathan, and especially the emphasis you place on navigation. So I finally subscribed... OK, so I guess after this long post, I really need to get my computer back! 😆

@@Gilles45 Thanks for the great feedback. As you probably have seen - I have a project going on alongside the usual content to look at real-world training materials. So I'll be covering the "real world" procedures, mnemonics, and so on soon :)

I love the P2006T - but unfortunately it's in the "Other Flight Sim"! It's a brilliant aircraft, mostly used as a trainer for multi engine rating. It really does deserve to be operated 'properly', even within a sim - the MSFS depiction looks marvellous, and I'd definitely purchase it. It's a sporty little devil, and a really good transition from something like the C172 and Boeing/Airbus. Anyway, thanks for the thorough and comprehensive demo - highly informative and entertaining as ever!

Really enjoyed this, a nice modern slant on a twin engine with landing gear so has all the features. I'm glad I felt pretty comfortable with most of the controls without ever seeing this aircraft before so that's nice and reassuring. I don't like the attitude indicator low down there though, I think they should be at eye height but like the look of this. Great vid as always, lots of detail.

    • @jonbeckett

There are several tests of increasing throttle and monitoring the engine instruments - also switching off the magnetos and monitoring the effect. In the real world it's all about making sure each component is working as it should.

Wait just a minute Mr. B....you did not check all the doors in preflight? what?...Really. And on top of that... you did not properly shut the airplane down on the previous flight.....This is not good my friend....people could die! Lights??? just leave them on all nite....A little less than 20 mins from preflight and move to centerline....In a ROTEX powered plane. I have seen Airbuses appear in the gateway..in less than two minutes...they are airborne...why??
Because they can. Tons of Sim pilots have thousands of real time hours in many types of planes....I think if they want to E-start the sim....then do it...go fly and have fun...If you want Professional start ups every damn flight..then go to a real company who can drill you silly...geeeeez. I myself really enjoy your abrivated flights...tthank you!!!
