Thank you for this. I like when things are presented well and time is taken to cover pros and cons instead of just being a commercial. It's been a while since I had a dedicated camera, but I am looking to take that dive again because smartphones are improving less and less with each generation. You've earned a sub.
Thank you for the comments/ sub, and if you are looking for just a vlogging camera the more affordable Sony ZV1 (bhpho.to/3hIjkh3) is also worth considering! I'm in the process of reviewing that newer camera now... All the best, Jay
Hi Jason, I love your videos about Sony rx100 m7. Can you please make a video of the best ways to save battery power for this camera? Thanks mate, Elado.
No good way really other than turning the camera off when not in use. This camera does not have the best battery life, so I would have a few batteries on hand, or you can plug in one of these fairly small lightweight chargers while out an about: geni.us/YaLt7
Great video. I'm taking my rig, which is similar to yours to Europe. Any recommendations on a camera bag that is easy to access and I can leave the rig assembled?
Great video! I'm still on the fence with this thing. Currently using an A6500 with the Rode VideoMicro and like it a lot. Would like something more compact for certain situations but the Rode Mic looks bigger than the camera itself! haha I've gotta have an external mic, just wish Rode would make a smaller version. Will keep watching your vids for more info. Quick tip about the VideoMicro, you can stabilize the mic by snapping the cable into one of the small grooves on the round cold shoe mount nut.
Thanks for the comments! The background separation is what gives you that awesome 3D look and is the main reason why the larger sensor cameras are so much better in regards to that. This is also why the RX100 1" sensor produces a way better look than a cell phone which has a really small sensor. At the end of the day, the videos content quality is really what matters most of the time ;)
i was follow along and come how i pushed something on my camera and my camera is stuck on a display where i can't see the photo i want to take. its a full screen of settings. HELP
Hi Jay, thanks for the video. Do you have any issue with auto eye focus function when filming in 4k? Mine is not working. Appreciate your reply, thanks.
Hi Anthony, Thanks for the comments and I am not using a color profile at this time. I do want to experiment with that, but I have not as of yet. I just have it on default settings and my white balance hard set to 3400k. I was shooting at 24p @ 100M.
is it better then the RX100 V. with faster aperture and ND - I assuming yes as it has Mic input and I assume better tracking AF. - seems the grip could be a bot longer
Yes, overall I would say it's better than the RX100 V due to the mic input and AF Tracking abilities. I also agree about the grip could be a bit longer, but it is actually long enough. Sony clearly went for maximum compactness on all fronts with this system ;)
People doing stupid things got millions of subscribers, I like your review and I choose rx100 vii and I am subscribing your channel just to say thanks, good review
it seams about the same to me I would say in the real world, but when zoomed into 100-200mm on the VI or VII you really can't go that slow with the shutter without a tripod.
This particular video is specifically geared toward people who are interested in vlogging. Do you have a specific question? I'm more than happy to help ;)
Yeah, there is always a compromise. If you want great audio quality it's an easier workflow with the built in mic input on the VII. Otherwise you would have to use a stand alone audio recorder and sync the media up in post. Not the biggest deal, but more work for sure. I agree though the f/1.8 on the Mark V would be preferred by me as well. I'm sure Sony will come out with one soon. Perhaps a Mark VIII will offer the 24-70mm f/1.8-2.8 effective lens for the those would want it over the 24-200mm f/2.8-4.5 effective on the VI and VII.
Jay SonyAlphaLab haha. Didn’t mean it as an insult! The brand name came from a joke. The first rode mic was Rode NT aka rodent. The line through the o was to sort of cover up this joke! Also love your set up with the rode/pistol grip!
I would certainly say so, yes. However it highly depends on your skill level and desire to learn how to use the camera. The RX100 VII is not near as easy to use as the iPhone. The iPhone pro is pumping out some really good quality as well from what I am seeing, but those tiny camera sensors do not compare. The portrait mode simulating depth of field on the iPhone is cool, but looks pretty fake to my eye as well. For a phone with cameras the new iPhone is absolutely amazing though no question!
Blurring the background is seriously overrated. Anyone can easily pick you out from the bloody weeds! Plus, I and many others quite like seeing the weeds.

@@Jason_Hermann Thank you! I will look for that review.
Good vlogging demo, nice nature shots :)
Thank you :)
Thankyou for the link to your vedeos on Rx100 mark 7.
The RX series are great. I have the five and love it.

Thanks for the comments and the tip about the mic! That thing is jiggling all over the place ;)
Great review, thanks. I wonder what about this background separation buzz all over yt? As all trends it will pass before we konow it was here.

Your videos are very helpful! Could you review the new Sony ZV-1? Would you consider it a better vlogging option compared to this camera?
Yes and Yes ;)
@@Jason_Hermann Thank you, I look forward to it!

Hit the display button again
Hi Jay, thanks for the video. Do you have any issue with auto eye focus function when filming in 4k? Mine is not working. Appreciate your reply, thanks.
Are you using a lut filter in editing for the color profile? Also, was this recorded in 24p or 30p. This video is really crisp, great job!

I really appreciate that Noyan, Thank you!
Does the vii or vi have better stabilization than the v? I could not get pictures lower than 1/15s consistently without blur on the v.

Hello Jay,
Will you do some 4K low light videos with your RX 100 VII ?
I sure will, stay tuned for the full review which will be coming in the next week or so ;)
Thank you for your reply.
Can't wait to watch your full review :-)
Everybody talks about how good it is for vlogging, like everyone who is watching these videos is a vlogger.

Image quality looks great but that price though.. Great video with lots of samples. Thank you.
Thank you and yes it is expensive for sure, but the quality, compactness, and feature set are incredible!
Thumbs up for the almost falling... cheers!
lol
'Almost' the best vlogging camera if not for only f/2.8 largest aperture. I stick with my Mark V

I still lol everytime people talk about rode (road) mics and call them roady mics.
Learn something new everyday and I'm glad I gave you a laugh ;) Thanks for the info!!

Needs an ND filter.
I agree, that would be great! I'm betting the next model will have that along with the faster 24-70mm f/1.8-2.8 lens found on the RX100 VA.
Blurring the background is seriously overrated. Anyone can easily pick you out from the bloody weeds! Plus, I and many others quite like seeing the weeds.
Fair opinion, but it depends who you are talking to....
