    I am so extremely lucky not only to have chosen to build my new high-end gaming PC in November, but also to have been able to snag an Asus TUF RTX 3080 for its original MSRP of $750. It really pains me, however, that this is considered "priced too low". This was a normal price for the highest-end tier prior to the RTX lineup. The GTX 1080 released for $599. The GTX 980 released for $549. The GTX 780 for $649. All because NVidia spiked the GPU prices to ridiculous levels for the RTX-2000 lineup lead people to believe that the return to "normal" prices for the RTX-3000 lineup was a steal. Mix in Covid's impact on manufacturing, Trump's tariffs, and crytomining and what you end up with are permanently screwed up prices.

    Great content Ari. I was glad to have been able to build a PC each for myself and my wife before March 2020. Also I was luckily able to go from a 5700 XT to a 6700 XT then 3080 (both at MSRP through Newegg shuffle), then able to sell both to fully pay off the 3080.

    What the current pricing and shortages has really done (probably to the delight of the manufacturers) is change the price/performance curve to the point where it makes little sense to buy a system with last gen (or earlier) parts. I had set up a system before all this hit, but sadly the funds weren't there. It would have been around $1500 then. By the time I was able to afford it, that same system would have cost $2000 and just wasn't worth it when I was able to get one with the most current gen parts from an SI for a few hundred more. I'm very glad I locked in my price when I did, because the system I got would now cost a few hundred more even with SI's being able to still get the parts at wholesale.

    • @TheTechBuyersGuru
      @TheTechBuyersGuru  3 года назад

      Right, SIs are booming right now, awesome business to be in as long as they are established enough to get GPUs at wholesale. I listed a few SI options in the video description that I'd recommended.

    I bought a keyboard for 150 €. My G19 from 2011 was priced the same, so 10 years of service is quite a long time for a keyboard. This is a white Durgod Hades 65% mechanical with Cherry MX Brown switches. I think I have to change mouse in the near future as my G502 is in great shape but the newer mice looks like a noticiable improvement. If I have to buy hardware is because I'm desperate to repair something. Otherwise rather than spending 1.5K on new hardware I'd take a TV (I don't have one and my monitor has only DP) and an Xbox. It was hard for me to justify the 980Ti Amp Extreme for 730 € (it was at discount price) in 2016 cause I used to buy X70s for 330. And the i7K went for 300€ in the physical shop. I've plenty of hobbies that can dry my bank account other than gaming. I don't see the point in buying stuff that even at MSRP isn't worth as much.
    Money = time and effort.

      Welcome! Alder Lake is interesting from a tech perspective, but I think it will be a big mess at launch and create a lot of problems for games until the entire industry switches to the big little design, which may never happen. There's also the issue of many new standards for motherboards. This is not where being an early adopter makes sense.

      @TheTechBuyersGuru  3 года назад

      Thanks for checking in... so glad you are enjoying your system and got in when you did, because now you couldn't build that for nearly the same amount of money!!!
      In terms of what to upgrade, that system is still looking very good, and of course your 2070 Super GPU is worth FAR more than you paid for it, and would be impossible to upgrade for less than an $850 Radeon 6700 XT (and even then, it would barely be an upgrade).
      I think your best upgrade would be to a 5900X CPU: click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=WAzU8cLhuCU&mid=44583&murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.newegg.com%2Famd-ryzen-9-5900x%2Fp%2FN82E16819113664%3FDescription%3D5900x%26cm_re%3D5900x-_-19-113-664-_-Product
      It would turn your mini-ITX PC into a thread-crushing monster! And the best part is your 3700X still have plenty of resale value. I bet you could easily fetch a minimum of $200 for it. Just make sure you update your motherboard firmware, as the original firmware wouldn't have supported that chip.
      If you're looking for a much cheaper upgrade, go for a new fan on your liquid cooler. I'd recommend the Phanteks T30-120, the best 120mm fan ever released! - amzn.to/39srmsD

      That of course won't be launched initially, but when the Ti models does arrive, I"m hoping it will be at $600, which is where the current model "launched", although it never sold for that price. The ideal product stack would probably have 4070 at $450, 4070 Ti at $550, and then 4080 at $750, with a 4080 Ti at $1000.

      Well, the 4070 is just a concept at this point, but in theory, I'd want more CPU power than an R5 3600 to push it fully. The current 3070 can be bottlenecked by that chip at anything under 4K. I think something like the RX 6700 XT or the RTX 3060 Ti is the perfect performance level to pair with that CPU. They are both around $900 right now:
      RX 6700 XT: amzn.to/2X5MwdK #ad
      RTX 3060 Ti: amzn.to/2YBM8nB #ad
      These were launched at $480 and $400, respectively, but those MSRPs are meaningless today and will be for this entire generation. By the end of 2022, hopefully everything will reset, and $480 would buy an RTX 4070 and $900 would buy an RTX 4080, but there's no way to know.

      @SouthWest, if you are asking why RDNA3 and Ada Lovelace will not come out at $3000 in late 2022 (as some of the ridiculous rumors are suggesting this week), it's because the crypto boom will not last, nor will the TSMC supply crunch. So at that point, selling a $3000 GPU is not going to be a winning move, even if that's what an RTX 3090 goes for now. And perhaps most telling is that AMD's graphics division has been absolutely hammered this year, losing marketshare and generating relatively little revenue despite selling at double MSRP. AMD would much rather have double the number of GPUs to sell at half the price, because long term, getting that marketshare is critical... much more than short term profits. Dr. Lisa Su of all people knows that.... it is why Ryzen is winning today.
