    Smashing explanation, a lot easier to follow when you divide it up like that, am I right in thinking that with that simplified wiring the lights would be permanently on?

      Wiring is a bit of a dark art, it's not difficult as such it's just a bit of a dark art. Let me know how you get on?

  • @johnjamieson4901
    @johnjamieson4901 10 месяцев назад

    That's great. Consider doing one about half wave 4 pin reg/recs? That's the one bit different on some pit bikes, and bikes with Chinese pit engines (lifan/cub). There's not 3 yellow wires coming from an alternator, but one yellow and one white to get your 12v from. I THINK I've got it sussed now, but if I had a how to vid like that, it would have made things a lot easier.

    • @BuiltatBlackjacks
      @BuiltatBlackjacks  10 месяцев назад

      There are a few differences, and even here this video skips lightly over the ignition system. The combinations of what you might have are vast, did you know the early CX500 has the same sort of self powered ignition set up as pit bikes etc?

    May I suggest putting a fuse between RR and Battery? I just had an experience when the RR's
    hot wire to battery shorted inside the RR and ran the battery down very quickly. Thusly I am going
    to put an inline fuse between the RR and harness up to the battery as the circuit breaker possibly
    being 31 yrs old never opened up as it should have.

    • @BuiltatBlackjacks
      @BuiltatBlackjacks  2 года назад

      There are very few manufacturers that put a fuse between the RR and the battery. On one hand it is something that I think about from time to time. But on the other hand since your short didn't reduce thing to a smoking ruin (?) I don't thing a fuse would have helped. if it was a fuse with a low enough rating to blow when the short wasn't bad enough to damage the wiring it would blow when the RR was working and the bike was charging. If it has a high enough rating to survive charging then it's not likely to prevent the battery discharging if it's not discharging fast enough to damage the wiring. I think it's going to cause you trouble more often than it saves you trouble?

      @@BuiltatBlackjacks I do thank you for your time, The connector between the
      RR and Stator was possibly likely to burn the stator out due to the connector actually melting and causing wires from stator to touch each other. Most of the time when an RR goes bad it either overcharges the battery or does not charge it.
      This may have been a freak event? Battery shorting to ground through the
      rect/reg? As said, a circuit breaker was between the Bat and RR it just never
      opened up, which would then cool it, then make again. Perhaps I should put in a circuit breaker instead?

  • @touchpointpropertymanageme2889

    On my reg/rec, besides the wires that go to my stator, there are 3 wires coming off it which I assume one is for ground and other goes to starter solenoid.... But I don't know what the 3rd one is for. Can you explain what that's for?

    • @BuiltatBlackjacks
      @BuiltatBlackjacks  Год назад

      Depends on the bike. If it's got a field effect alternator (XS650, CB750 SOHC to name a few) then there'll be a feed from the Reg/Rec to the field windings probably the "stray" wire and the ground. If it's a permanent magnet alternator, the "stray" wire is most likely a load sensor in which case it connects to a switched live and senses the voltage being supplied and "tells" the Reg/Rec how much regulating it has to do. It's hard to be concise because stuff varies, and aftermarket Reg/Recs don't always work like the factory version.

      The 30 amp breaker has the output from the regulator (red) and a wire to the ignition switch (also red) on one side, the black wire from the starter goes to the other terminal according to the diagrams I've looked at. You said the black wire from the starter is hot with the ignition on? Should be hot all the time since it's what actually sends power to the ignition switch???

    So what does the white wire on the reg/rec do?

    • @BuiltatBlackjacks
      @BuiltatBlackjacks  2 года назад

      Depends Danny, the colours I used here are all pretty generic, but the Yellow ones from the alternator are sometimes white but there will be either two or three identical looking ones? Some alternators don't have permanent magnets but use electro-magnets instead (called field effect alternators, common on cars) and sometimes the White wire is the feed for the electro-magnets. Other times it can be 12Volt DC + out. If you say what bike it is, I might be able to be a bit clearer?

    Would you help;
    I have Kawasaki kz750 twin building from scratch (bobber) my regular have 2 yellow wires one black one white and red and brown …
    Yellows need to connect to stator,
    Black is negative -
    White/red it positive +
    And brown I have not a clue… on diagram looks like is connected to brake light switch 🤷🏻‍♂️. Would you help please?

    • @BuiltatBlackjacks
      @BuiltatBlackjacks  Год назад

      Hi, yeah I'd say it was the load sensor? Brake light has a brown wire and a blue wire? Brown is a switched live, the brown to the regulator is there so the regulator can "see" how many volts there are in the wiring and adjust it's output to suit.
