    My beautiful pineapple green cheek named peach recently passed away, she was such a sweet girl and is missed greatly. In memory of her I rescued a Jenday conure yesterday. He was abused by his previous owners so he’s still really scared but will take treats from my hand and accept head scratches. His name is mango 🥭

      Recently, one CARELESS friend of mine bought a Pineapple Conure as a baby and now is not able to give time. So gave it to me, as I am an animal person. But I had experience with rescuing local birds which I released after they grew up. Which I couldn't with conure because they are from South America. I already have a cat and tortoise. Not to mention I have a small apartment. I don't want to keep a bird in an apartment for his life time. And life recently got a little busy. I want to ask, if you or anyone from South America wildlife that could help me....
      I know it is a big ask, but can any animal enthusiasts be able to take him from my country and maybe release him in the South American jungle or at least give him a better life.

    Back in 1999 when I was a teen I found a semi tamed conure in my grandfathers mango tree one day and tried to befriend him and fed him mangos but he was skittish and took a bit but he took some mangoes from my hand. Then when I was going to leave him and head back into the house he flew onto my shoulder and became my best buddy after that. He looked like a green cheek conure but had a little bit of red around and on his tail feathers. He was such a derpy and fun feathered friend. And I’d take him outside all the time to eat mangoes and fruits from my grandparents trees. The instant I called him he would fly right back to my shoulder. His name was “Buddy”. I miss that little dude. He passed of old age I believe, had him for over 8 years and I assume he was already pretty old when I first found him.

    To be aware: Stores like PetCo will sell something called fancy green cheeks and me and my parents bought the conure and named her kiwi. When I took pictures of kiwi it showed her as not a green cheek conure but a black capped conure (aka a rock conure status: endangered) which means that she is not a green cheek but she is indeed a conure. Make sure to do research and maybe look up conure type lists if you are confused of the type of the bird

      @PoodlesandParrots  2 месяца назад

      Thank you for sharing, it’s good to research the types of species as you mentioned because petsmart does the same thing they label them as “fancy” and will sell you a green cheek, black capped, crimson bellied or sun conure as “fancy” 😔

    I have a Pineapple Conure named Louie - but I mostly call him Buddy. He has some curious behaviors for sure. He dances around my Keurig with his tail feathers spread out when I make coffee in the morning. He can say 'Hey Cutie! and usually says that when I take him out of his cage in the morning. He's a GREAT companion as I live alone but I work from home so he gets a lot of attention. He was quite nippy when I first got him about a year ago, but he is slowly outgrowing that. Love your videos!!!

      Nipping is indeed a common behaviour in young conures... a few quick tips would be positive reinforcement, gently redirecting his attention to a toy or activity, consistency, avoiding "rough play" or overly stimulating your conure, watch for triggers, socialize your bird, be patient and build trust! I have a whole video dedicated to biting I recommend!☺

    Someday I'd like to expand my flock to include a green cheek conure or two perhaps so I'm researching up on them too. In anyone's experience with these birds, would you recommend always getting them in pairs, or is it fine to have just one bird to bond with? Keeping budgies I've always kept multiple because they're just so social and prefer their flock with other budgies. I just don't want him to feel sad or lonely if I get a green cheek in the future. Someone help she'd some light on this is much appreciated. 🥺

      Those are really cute names!🥰 if you’re thinking about expanding your flock I don’t think you HAVE to get them in a pair but if you would like to; you can! A green cheek Conure could bond and flock with your budgies as well. I’ve seen many flocks in homes with conures & budgies - you could also check out Elle and the birds (she also has both plus more!). We don’t find that Mango or Mia have ever displayed behaviours of feeling sad or lonely, they also spend a lot of time with us 😀🥰 hope this helps!

    Poodles and parrots! I have a big question.. I'm currently buying all the necessities for my soon to be pet Conure bird! The person I'm trying to buy it off keeps saying that all the cages I've found are no good to a small / medium sized parrot like a Conure bird. He is insisting I buy a 50cmx50cmx70cm cage of him with 1.5cm gap spacings. In the situation I'm in, I understand he is the professional, but after all the research I've done I feel like I'm getting scammed? The cages I've found are 65cmx65cmx80cm with 1.3cm gap spacings. I would rather put my trust into you because you are someone I look up to. So where am I going wrong? Or am I being scammed..? (both cages are stainless steel)

    • @PoodlesandParrots
      @PoodlesandParrots  Год назад +1

      Sure! Let me start with suggesting this video I talk about the cage brands and some places to buy good cages from ruclips.net/video/T2Jo1I5XVPw/видео.html usually when someone wants you to buy something they will tell you what they need to so that they can convince you! If you don't feel good about it's probably not a good option - trust your gut!! I would always recommend the bigger one with the small bar spacing. Our cage for reference is 10mm/1cm bar spacing and the size is 96 x 58 x 167 cm. We worked our way up to this size but started with what our budget allowed for with the biggest we could get. Conures are very active and need to space to play, climb, stretch, explore. Hope this helps you! I also have a blog on this; poodlesandparrots.com/blog/posts/tips-for-choosing-the-right-cage

Our Mia can say one: her name 😆 and Mango doesn’t say any words but mimics a lot!
