I agree! The only reason I would have any disagreement is because my Conure gets AGRESSIVE when he's on my shoulder, back, or head! Especially when my husband tries to touch me! But we're training that out of him by only allowing him arm and hand time. At least until his step up gets better!

You can train your bird against separation anxiety, if you reassure them that you're coming back whenever you leave their sight. You can repeat a sentence before you leave them (exemple: I'm going to come back!) and after you return (see? I came back!). In time, they will learn that, if you say that before you leave their sight, they didn't lose you forever, and will become more calm.

My favorite cockatiel differs slightly. He likes being pretty and is just an overall birb. He screeches for berries he can't have, screeches for his favorite people, attempts to befriend and later attack him sized sock plushies that you painstakingly made for one of his favorite people, is terrified of almost literally everything, and chirps in response to conversation with me. He's not my bird, but I love him all the same. He's my favorite pied banana birb

That is what mine would do! But, I sadly lost both of my cockatiels almost a year ago, a year apart.😥
One got sick (I don't know how and the vet didn't help much). He was shaking and I didn't know what was wrong. I brought him to the vet the next morning but they weren't much help. After a week of being sick and being on a weak medication and (the vet said to have them separated from each other so if it was contagious the other won't get it) it wasn't doing anything.
But, a little late on that! Later that week, I noticed the other was acting sick, too. She was shaking, as if they were shivering (the same as the other was). Then the next day, the one that had been sick the longest had died in the middle of the night. So, that then caused depression for the other and made her freak and not want any contact! About two months later the other died😭😩 The first one was always an alarm clock and would sing with the music I played, the second would barely talk... until she had the cage to herself.

I have BOTH. I've had a cockatiel for over 10 years, and recently got a dusky headed conure as a rehome. The cockatiel, Baby, is indeed much more chill. The conure, Skittles, does like to wrestle on his back and to hang upside down in his cage. Skittles is very lively, Baby is much quieter. They're both VERY sweet and loving and both want constant attention. And I love them both dearly, and they both deserve it.

I started with a cockatiel (female,Pearl), and several years later added a green cheek. These two are like day and night, Jamie, my cockatiel is the sweetest bird you could ever hope for, she only likes her head and beak petted or rubbed, and really does not like her feet touched. Piper my male greencheek, is a pistol and quite demanding, jealous and wants it to be all about him. Warning, conures can bite you so hard, it will leave a V formation that will take sometime to heal, so keep the Neosporin handy, and watch your lips. Your a great teacher, and a true bird lover. I've only ever had budgies, and I can probably see myself sticking with them for life (tiny, full of personality, a good mix between chill and energetic, pleasant voices, not nearly as demanding as a cockatiel, on the odd occasion they bite it feels like a light pinch, they bond to people really well, but are really easy to socialise even later in life, easy to entertain... the list goes on) but I'd love to try a bigger bird some time, when I can afford one. I personally have a love/hate relationship with every cockatiel I've ever met, as you said, they're super demanding little buggers haha, very very self-centred. I think I need to meet a few conures, see what I think, because you were describing a similar personality (yes, as you said, individuals vary, but still). Parrots are high-energy as a rule, even a low-energy parrot like a tiel is still more than most non-bird people expect, so a high-energy parrot like a conure would be a very different experience by the sound of things! (budgies are high energy, but only in short bursts, they chill for half the day then go on naughty rampages in the morning and evening).
It was really really helpful to hear you describe their personalities! I'll keep doing research over the next few years, and who knows, maybe one day I'll pick up a conure ;)

I have two green cheeks, and two sun conures, and your description of conure personalities is spot on. I've also noticed a big difference between Green Cheek behavior and Sun behavior. The best way I can think of to explain it is that Suns are bigger, slower and goofier while Green Cheeks are more high strung. They are both very cuddly though.

My first bird at the age of 9 was a Cockatiel, and they are among my fave species and get my vote, absolutely. I have a theory, and would love to see what others think of it's veracity: It seems like to me that those who have a preference for Macaws over Cockatoos also may favor Conures over Cockatiels.
Our flock includes at least one of each, so I'll admit that my personal feelings about the relative similarity among the personalities of conures and macaws, and 'toos and 'tiels respectively, are such that many conure lovers also prefer macaws. Of course, I haven't done serious study, but in talking with other bird people, it seems there may be something to it. (disclaimer: My daughter's got a female GCC, my son has a female 'tiel & a female blue throated macaw. I have cockatoos- a male Goffin's and a female umbrella.)
    Anyone agree? Disagree?

He is always I mean always hyper and full of energy and also very very demanding of our attention even though i got him a partner female budgie he still wants my attention for at least half an hour everyday. If I don’t go to him he flies across the rooms to my shoulder.

I got my half moon conure (16 years) as a rescue so she was very insecure and fearful. I have only had her 6 months and she has truly settled but she developed an extreme bond with me. She is very quiet as long as I’m near her but if I leave the room she calls loudly. I think over time she will be less clinging. She is a joy, wonderful personality.

I love them sooo much :) They're listening your video and they say hello :D

Great job with this video. I have fostered/rescued birds for years, and agree with 95% of your characterization. Conures are wonderful birds, but they are social and do require a lot of attention. They are also quite good at their job of chewing things up, so give them lots of toys, and expect wood furniture and cabinets to be mistaken for chew toys as well. Green Cheeks are relatively quiet while Sun Conures are very loud. The one place I would differ a bit is that not all conures are the same. Green Cheeks are rambunctious, Sun Conures tend to be more varied - my two are older (one is 10+, the other 20+ years old) and they are mostly chill, though again they love to chew on things, so if you don’t give them something to chew on while they are on your shoulder or arm, expect them to make use of your clothing as chew toys, happily shredding shirts, jeans etc to pieces. Great social birds for those with the time to give them lots of love and time.

Very well informed video! I got an conure half a year ago, and have a cocktiel and an african gray from before. The conure I got was just a baby, and she is mischivious and rebellious, but she is also sweet, social and cuddly too. Tried to have her outsode with the two other birds, but saw quickly that the african Gray and the conure do not go too well with each other as my african gray hates it when other birds flies over him.
One day the conure was too quick and she was about to perch on the gray. The gray was flying away to get away, byt the conure was flying after him. Got them seperated quickly though so no harms done.
The relationship between the cocktiel and the conure is on an off. They are not allowed togehter withoyt supervision, but my conure is being playful to my cocktiel. The cocktiel is an senior and she is more about the cuddles than playtime. One time my conure was wanting to play tag with my cocktiel and the senior bird that she is, she is not a good pilot anymore. She ended behind some funitures, she was all fine. But my conure was concerned. Once I got my cocktiel from the crash site, the conure went to the old lady and just stood there and did not do a thing.
By what I have experienced, Conures are surely the type of bird that is clowns and likes to be mischivious. But they are also great companions when you are socializing them early on. I got my conure when she was only 2 months old. And i must say, other than the few incidents she is going well with the birds I have from before, and the other birds do accept her aswell. Of cause if anyone wants a conure, just read up on them before getting them. The same goes for the cocktiel. Cocktiels are the sassiest birds I have ever come across.
And for African grays they are similar to how conures are like, but they are very loveable and is fairly all-people birds. But even they can connect with only one amd tolorade the rest of the family.

I’ve got a sun conure and you’ve described conures perfectly. If you’ve learned this all by experience, I’ll be extra impressed. Fortunately, my hands are really tough because he likes playing rough. He likes to groom my arm hair and occasionally becomes overzealous and will nick me. When I go out and can’t bring him, I’ll leave a Utube video with conures making noises, playing on a loop. I’ve waited out of sight and he calms down after a couple of minutes. I’ve trained him in free flight so he gets out often. He never strays out of sight from the window that I leave open. Ultimately, the rewards of patience and reinforcement pay off. He spoke in Birdy voice by age one which is a little rare. It’s because of my attention or he’s smarter than the average conure. He also likes lying on his back in the crook of my arm to play or be stroked. He’s sleeps in a bunched up towel laid on my pillow.. In the morning I’ll hold him over the toilet which is handy for the first massive poop of the day. He prefers eating my diet (from my plate) with even a little bit of meat. Banana-Strawberry Yoplait is his favorite.

    Love the video!
I have both and they are both amazing birds. My cockatiel is pretty chill but is more moody and ‘sassy’ than my conure. My conure is bratty rather than moody lol. She is more stubborn, prone to mischief, and more curious. They both enjoy scritches but my conure likes being closer to me and cuddling and will make you hold her in a closed hand while my cockatiel does not like being handled more than being perched on your shoulder or finger.
They both have to be up in my business and do everything that I am doing. If I am on the computer I have to constantly get them off my keyboard, mouse wires, and mouse pad. Funnily enough if I am not using the computer they never touch it.
They don’t get very jealous but my conure will occasionally force herself into my hand if I am petting another bird but she never chases anyone away.
Cockatiel does not bite hard, conure has more bite pressure and is very nippy, likes to get the ears.
My cockatiel will let more people hold him and my conure is more shy and prone to females.
Conure is way messier, my cockatiel’s cage is never that messy, he keeps his food in his bowel and is water stays clean.
My conure flings food everywhere, her water dish gets disgusting lol. And she will bath in it occasionally. 90% of the mess in the room is hers.
Both are very sweet and loving birds. I love my quirky cockatiel and his singing and sassy behavior and my conures cuddliness, goofy antics, and bratty stubbornness and proclivity to trouble.
You can’t go wrong with either bird but both are a lot of work and take years of dedication.
