When you said that they live 20 to 30 years, that made me so happy. My little dude is with me most of the day and, I'm a grumpy Canadian veteran so, his personality is perfect lol. He is super needy though so, he basically lives on my shoulders and god forbid my wife trying to get close to me, he get jealous and it's the cutest thing ever, cheers from Canada and thanks for the information.

My green cheek is literally the best investment I've ever made for my mental health. His little muted whisper screams in the mornings make my life 1000% better. I'll take him cranky and all.
What a cutie! I’ve had my GCC for a little over two years now. She’s such a little troublemaker, but I love her. I love seeing the unique quirks each bird has. My GCC like to lean her side against my face when we cuddle. She also will hop around and loves to wrestle. She can be so energetic at times, but will also fall asleep on me for half and hour. Everyday is definitely something new with her!
Your green cheek sounds so precious! Scuttle definitely enjoys his head rubs as well! I love the energy in these birds, definitely one of my favorite things about them! 😊
@@ThrivePetDesign For my Yellow Sided how you solve that morning noise is put them in a smaller enclosure away from your room, by the central air unit. That way they hear white noise and cannot hear the birds in the morning chirping. It works wonders. Quiet mornings.
i loveee my green cheek hes so adorable,when he fluffs up. when i give him scritches he yawns just like the video ! he’s very curious and hes so funny and always makes me laugh. he falls asleep on me whenever i’m on my phone. i got him last summer around may.

I had mine call Lady Kathy and she is a destroyer, loud, misbehaved flying biting machine. And like you said in the video it will light up your day after a hard day at work. Love her like she is part of the family.
A great video done with a noble intention. Thank you for the efforts that you put in order to spread the knowledge. I have mine for about a year now. I treat him for what he is - a delicate little soul. He is much more "serious" compared to most conures that I've observed, but he has his daily antics for sure. Nice video. I've found that my Green Cheek likes foot toys. SO TO SAVE MONEY, I gather buttons, cheap jewelry all sorts of odds and ends, even jar lids. There are a lot of toys you can make out of almost anything. One of his favorites is to push around an empty soda can. I love setting up environments to enrich his life. Another con is because Green Cheeks are fragile. They can be squahed or crushed easily by a child or getting stepped on. I love my Green Cheek!
Wow, thanks for your comment, that's an amazing suggestion! I will totally look into saving buttons, because Scuttle definitely loves picking up with his little feet! That's definitely an important con to bring up, and I think that goes for almost every bird, as well. Scuttle is a little silly and definitely isn't as nimble on his feet as my parakeet, so that's probably really great to bring up in relation to them. Thank you so much for your comment! New GCC owner here🤗 I love my conure he is such a cutie and what you said about them being unpredictable is so funny because my bird will literally behave the same way one minute he loves me then the next he gets sassy lol but i’m getting better at understanding his body behaviors🥰 I’m obsessed with birds now
About 6 months ago I adopted a mated pair of GCC's. The male was a serious biter. Patience & consistency has worked out. He now gives me kisses and little nibbles. These are my 1st GCC's. I used to have over 200 birds, a variety from Love Birds, Cockatiels, other Conures & Cockatoos. I purchased a pretty big flight cage but they are usually outside of it. I'm really enjoying my GCC's, and looking forward to rescuing more again. I work from home and have plenty of time for them.
That is so awesome for you!! I definitely think patience is the most important things with these birds, and people just need to be willing to use it! Especially since birds are so emotional, I definitely don't want people bringing home a GCC if they aren't capable of lots of love and patience! Your birds sound like they have a fantastic life :)

I just wanted to make a note about the diet at 5:55, because I want to be very particular about this video's impact. That is the ZuPreem pellet diet which is NOT very good, and I would not recommend feeding. This appears in the video because 1) it's all Scuttle will eat and 2) some of this is older footage. I am currently working on transitioning to Roudybush, which is proving to be difficult as Scuttle enjoys being stubborn. However, I only offer ZuPreem in addition to his veggie mix, which is his main diet. I wanted to point this out because, on its own, I would not recommend the ZuPreem diet. I only offer the pellet as I work on getting him on the best diet possible and to ensure that his nutrition is as balanced as possible. An improper diet can cut a bird's lifespan very short. Bird diets are very complicated, and so are birds in general. This is why I am trying to be very clear on the importance of a good diet. I am currently trying to blur out the video of the pellet diet, but RUclips Studio currently is not cooperating with me, so I hope you can understand. Yay! Another video! I think that you should make a whole video on bird expenses for getting the bird itself and the supplies like the enclosure and toys which gets changed out very often .Because when I think about pet birds I just think "ExPeNsEvE” 😂 .Oh and soo adorable at 2:27 that’s what I would do when I’m brushing my teeth in the mornin !☺️

I'll see what I can make in the future 😊 It really depends on the bird, they aren't necessarily the most. Macaws are definitely SUPER expensive, but smaller parakeets and finches are (while definitely not cheap) are far less expensive. Really all just due to the fact that the bigger they get, the more expensive they are :)
Demanding, messy little devils is how best to describe them. Also lovable, cuddly and affectionate at same time, makes you put up with their impish side.
I also have a greencheek named Robin, and oh boy he is an absolute devil. He's always getting into trouble, knocking stuff down or trying to get in a fight with our other birds. BUT, my family and I can't say we don't love him. He's crawled his way into our hearts and we can't help but find his troublemaking cute. I enjoyed this video and really agree with your points btw!

I think the key is training. I have an adopted green cheek that was 7 years old when I got him and I've had him 2 years now. I told the lady who bred him and comes to my house to trim his nails that he is just about perfect except his nippiness. She shrugged her shoulders and said "That's green cheeks - they are bullies." The flip side is he is very very obedient and easily trained. He always does what I ask him to do.
For sure! Training is also a great way to provide them with mental stimulation 👍 I absolutely agree with the biting, that's so funny that she said that haha. Thankfully, they have pretty distinct body language before they bite so you can usually avoid it! I love how smart they are, and I'm currently working on teaching Scuttle a few tricks as well :)
This is a very informative video. A lot of these talking points are things you only learn throughout your ownership of them and you bring up some great points with conures in particular. They are such inquisitive little creatures and it breaks my heart when I see people rob them of that joy by keeping them locked up most of the day or can't give them the attention they need. It's a HUGE personal cost to invest in them but it's super rewarding when you can provide them a life full of happiness. Great video !

My GCC is definitely both devilish and adorable. He can be very loud and spoiled at times when he’s in the cage but I agree with what you said the cage should only be for them to sleep in my opinion they are very active and require a lot of play time. Mine doesn’t get into a lot of trouble so I’ll let him out with my other birds just fine. He’s very cuddly but as soon as he sees my finger he will snap at me and make me bleed 😭 it can be very frustrating but I’ve learned over time this is just how they are. I would say if you aren’t experienced with birds just yet a cockatiel is a lot easier to take care of but conures are like having kids and require a lot of attention
We had gotten ours very unplanned. My wife was the bird person in our relationship she has had many cockatiels and they are great so i didn't mind baby sitting a green cheek when her friends asked. It was only supposed to be for a week or 2 while she was on vacation. Several months later we got the impression they just wanted us to keep him cause he was a handful. He has anxiety issues from being passed from home to home so his feathers are a bit chewed up and he was on a poor diet. I couldn't bare to part ways with him so little by little we are making progress with him and I don't think I've ever loved birds this much as i do at this point in my life. What wonderful and under rated animals. When I found out they live to 20-30 yrs i was so happy i never want them to have to deal with separation anxiety or be passed to other homes.

I have a pineapple conure. He is extremely affectionate, mischievous and adorable. He also cuddles and would just be so peaceful on my shoulder all day long.
I love mine even though she is an amateur dentist and will try and pry my mouth open to get to those teeth. I have had a few birds from Lovebirds to Pionus to Caiques and a Grey. I still think my Green Cheek is one of the best birds I have had in my life. She can definitely be a handful but the payoff is good. Well done on this video.

Very good point about the moodiness, you are absolutely right. I kind of understand them, because I can be moody too haha, but they definately have moodswings and can be nippy. I did read the nippiness will decrease when they get older. Great video!

I agree they are unique. I call them the pit bulls of parrots as I have rescues and they are either extremely viscious or extremely timid when the rescues arrive. I have a parent raised 5 month old baby too and he has been the easiest baby bird to train and keep entertained. He loves all the toys and seems to really love and appreciate living with us. I also have a Quaker parrot i adopted at 8 months old from another great home they had other birds and felt they didnt have enough time for her so i adopted her and she is like a flying puppy and follows me around, she's playful and she and the parent raised green cheek have no behavioural issues that I notice. Rescues take a long time to come around, settle in and learn trust again. Green cheeks are the most complex burd species I've ever coexisted with (I'm home a lot due to disibilities) due to having so much time I chose green cheeks for the challenge that is well worth the rewards. Great video. A lot of great info and advice.
I have a 4 tear old turquoise ggc rescue. A 3 year old normal ggc rescue. Both were cage crazed and have rehabilitated well so far. They were very wild and I did clip their wings to start as I dont know any other way but they can both fly now and when they learned to take off and land and gained independence they grew emotionally and mentally over night.
hahaha super cute we think that when animals are little devils it makes them more cute what a lucky little guy to have you....most people don't realize how much attention and love all animals need whether it is birds or fish or anything....great and thorough video

Great Video - Yes Green Cheek Conures are complex creatures. My hands are full with just one. Whoa, he gets so much of my time I feel I'm neglecting my budgies. Anyhow I can never give them up, I love them. Yes it breaks my heart when people get a bird and then end up giving it away or do not care for the bird. Anyways this is a great video, you hit a lot of facts and good points, I agree with you about everything you said.

I have a green cheek. They are really loving loyal and she goes with me everywhere. They are special. They need interaction and they want love. So smart! I’m older so for me they are perfect. Please don’t buy one if you’re not willing to commit the time and care. They are such social birds. They can be nippy because that’s how they let you know what they want and need. I don’t know what I’d do without my friend. Do not get a child a bird. These need space, stimuli. 💕
I absolutely agree with everything that you have said. Birds, in general, are not a good pet for most people, unless they are willing to dedicate a lot to them. Green cheeks are so special, and yours sounds very loved! :)

Hi I live in southern Spain and have a pineapple green cheek I have had her for 4 years I take her out with an adapted aviator harness for a good fly which she loves. Here in Spain she only cost 90 euro from a professional breader including registration leg ring and paper work.I hand reared her from 2 weeks feeding with a syringe.
I have one and I also think it's so funny when he has an attitude! Love mine, and yes , they can get nippy but as my bird is going to be 3 years old, he learned so much, example , he knows right and wrong, my type of bird, but you are correct this species is not for everyone, Im glad I picked the green cheek. You kinda get used to there body language, for me "Jake" is such a joy, nice presentation!!!👍♥️
Your so open and honest about Green cheeks you learned quite a bit in just a years time well when it comes to biting when getting luvins they are easy to get hormonal and they dont ever change but thats the fun part with my Sunny who just turned eleven they get over stimulated very easy and its always a body posture thing Sunny tends to bow very low when he gets ready to bite if Im sure to stop he bounces back to loving rather then biting but unfortunatly over the years Ive taken some bites and it always seems like he doesnt understand what happend Then some Conure experts told me that make sure you dont over stimulate and youll be just fine then the biting events went way down thank goodness lol. So with that being said I love your videos please keep them coming bye for now .

I'm getting my Blue Throated tomorrow, if you personally ask me? They all seem so genuinly down to earth, and calm and I cannot wait to pick mine up, I can see maybe two being a problem, but I am buying one.
You may have covered this and I missed it, but one thing to consider before you get a green cheek is the other birds in your flock, especially if you have different species. I find that my green cheek is very sociable and very pesty towards my lineolated parakeet and my budgie. He doesn't mean any harm; he actually tries to preen them or feed them but they don't like it. His high activity level and constant pestering really freaks them out. So, if you have a mixed flock, you may have to house your green cheek in another room or stagger the "out of cage" time to keep the stress level down for your smaller birds. I am not sure how green cheeks interact with larger birds such as Amazons, cockatoos or macaws. Maybe someone else can comment on that.
My pineapple conure is so good,,she doesn’t make a noise in the morning or at all really.she is very good and likes to fly around,she likes me best and if she bites I say a strong NO..she is learning..I love her..mine was 500 from a breeder..

I've had a Goffin's Cockatoo since 1998. My daughters wanted a smaller, more cuddly bird, so we picked a Green cheek conure about 4 months ago. He's such a nice little bird and loves to cuddle with all of us, although he can be a little demanding at times, LOL. Compared to the noise 'Ladybird' the cockatoo makes, all the sounds 'Nibbler' makes are just cute! Sometimes Nibbler will walk p to Ladybird's cage and they will start arguing, it's so funny. We're hoping they eventually learn to be friends so we don't have to keep them separated all the time. The only con for us is, this little conure is a lot messier than the much larger cockatoo!
Your cockatoo sounds amazing, and Nibbler does too!! I also love the sound my green cheek makes, especially when he's playing with his favorite toys! LOL! I have some issues with my mother's parakeet and my green cheek, especially with Scuttle's fiesty attitude! I hope they can be friends one day as well. I think it will help when my green cheek's hormones start to balance out as well! The mess is actually a really great point, Scuttle loves to throw around all of his food (especially fruits and veggies!) Thanks for sharing!! :)

I have my male parakeet in the same cage as my female conure. She does boss him around, but, he loves her and tries to keep her out of trouble. He speaks conure, but she never sings parakeet songs.
I've wanted one for around 4 years now but with my current job, don't get me wrong I am well off, but I feel like I couldn't be able to give the proper care due to the pay I get. I have the proper time but would prefer a bit more income. But I do have a job that I'm certain that I will get that will be my career that will allow me to properly care for one and once I am 100 percent sure I got the job I plan on getting one.

I definitely understand that money is such a big concern when bringing birds home, and it makes me very happy to hear you're planning your financial situation around your possible bird. My 8 mo. old male Pineapple Conure Cootie is very feisty and loved to make fighting sounds and bite all the time when I was handling him, but his bites were more like light warning bites. He is mellowing out week by week and can be loving. He fly's to me and cries when he can't get out of his cage to come to me That's why I named him a nippy 'Cootie' Bird. It could of been Tas for Tasmanian Devi too. :)

My high red pineapple was about $700😭 I was so so set on having a pineapple. Not even a high red. But it just so happened that the one that I was connected with at the store was a high red, which was more expensive. I had no idea until now that pineapples were more
I agree totally with your video as myself i'm a pineapple GCC owner. She's a little demon but i love her more than anything else. She's really jealous of us having contact with other birds but since we raised her together (me and my partner) she doesn't have jealousy about other people. She even climbs on my mother. She is deeply bonded as you said but mine because the breeder removed her from her parents as soon as she came out of the egg has the really bad habit to bite daily. She's really moody and we're getting used to it. Also even though we have an aviary for her she hates being in there... Same if she's outside of the aviary in the room with us she will scream if we even dare to go out of the room. She is also extremely destructive so yes i recommend a lot of foraging toys and these cost a lot of money so yes be prepared to have to spend a lot of money for them. Btw for her aggression i simply buy cat toys (the balls with bells) and she will play really violently with them. It takes her energy out and she loves playing a lot. About the energy it's a specie i absolutely don't recommend to trim the wings and claws. They are so active and love to fly, climb, exercise so it would be really bad for them. I personally hate the idea of cutting any bird claws or triming the wings feathers. Birds are made to fly and climb everywhere.
Just got my conure few weeks ago. He is so sweet and funny. But his claws are so sharp. My arm and my wife arms are full of scars. He can bite hard but he knows not to bite hard.
That's awesome! If his claws are too sharp, I would recommend finding a way to possibly trim them to prevent them from getting too long for him. I think, in general, most green cheeks are like that in terms of biting, but I've also seen some that are pretty aggressive, so I think it's important people prepare for the worst when it comes to owning birds :)
How is it going with your new friend? I'm very curious about how the rescued one is doing. I'm looking at one in a situation where the owner can't keep him. I hope all is well with your little buddy!

I have 2 pineapples conure. But they play with each other and really don't let me hold them...they run and hide..which is funny. What do I do to change that?
Yess! Birds are the absolute best! Make sure you do your research as they are the biggest commitment and they don't always deal well with change or stress well. I'm sure you could do it just be careful when getting into it, and I can answer any questions 😊
I love gcc. My dream bird is an pineapple gcc but so far a cockatiel is a better fit for me. I def will get a little conure one day in the future! (Just to be clear its not like i cant get a gcc now so im getting a cockatiel, i love them both so much) Also my family which im living with now wouldnt handle the noise sadly. I Hope theyll be okay with a tiel tho! 💕
Oo that's so exciting! Sometimes it's definitely very difficult to balance the bird and family needs, but I'm glad that you're looking into one. I would love to rescue/get a cockatiel one day because they are just so absolutely beautiful and I love how soft their singing is :))
I found one in my cats mouth. He is really sweet but he preens me agreavly and it hurts. It first I THOUGHT IT cute that he niblrs my mouth but he really goes at it. any advise thank you?

He was only 2 months old..he is now just over a year and doing fabulous. We love him so much and yes he bites and can be moody. I watch a lot of conure videos. I have the problem that I really want this bird but I'm at a point in my life where I'm not sure where I'll end up. Like I might live or study abroad, or maybe I'd travel a bunch. I think the reason he might be a tad bit angry is because you cocoon him with soft material. That usually happens because that's how they get stimulated into breeding in the wild, hence why I don't think you should do that. But I might be wrong. Do your own research.
Hi! I have done my own research and I did a lot of research for this video. I don't believe I described him as getting angry within the video, but I honestly have too much anxiety to watch it again (I do remember being happy with the information when posting it, and wouldn't share it otherwise). It's not the end of the world, he just nips me once or twice a day and this is honestly more so the result of him still being in his terrible twos and a bird, especially since I don't use towels anymore, although, if someone has an extremely nippy green cheek, they can be used to keep the owner and the bird more safe. I have not experienced any immediate negative repercussions when I played around with towels, and I noticed the way I just draped it over him made him feel more safe, and whenever he heard something that scared him, he would try to hide inside, since he is also quite anxious. I've also seen people talk about using the use of a towel for bringing their birds to vet, although this situation is different as they are restrained, but I have not noticed people mention that being stimulating in that way (although it might be because they are under high pressure, I suppose). I will continue to do more research, and I appreciate the honest feedback, but I don't believe this is the case, especially since he still is nippy once in a while. I'm thinking that he will soon grow out of this, but it is not unlike a green cheek conure to have just a little bit of sass to them, and I don't really mind, I love the personality. 😊 I will keep doing more research on my own time, thank you very much! I love my GGC Oscar bits and pieces We are the bested friends. I'm 56 and pretty healthy Oscar sleeps with me he has a bed house on my bed. Or he's under my ear or under my bedding. My Musk Lorikeet did this as well. They know their comfort zones.
I really want to get one but there is inly 2 right now in Nyc. But the one i want unfortunately isnt being sold to me. Petsmart told me they dont have the permit to sell it so im kinda sad that i have to wait since the cage there is so small and no toys and its just alone bored. I hope They will be able to sell pets again on sunday😩
I hope that you can get one!! If you bring one home from PetSmart, be sure to get them onto a good diet because they definitely don't feed the best stuff at those pet stores haha. I really hope that they can sell it soon as well because it sounds like you're very aware of what a GCC needs and how to make it have a good life. What food products to you by for your conure, he is gorgeous! Extremely green, mine sadly has some of the black feathering and I didn't know that was a sign of bad diet. I've been wanting to change his diet for a long time regardless.

You did well bc this is informative my gcc is this way exactly one minute I can cradle him like a baby I mean he likes being wrapped like a newborn then I feel the crazy vibe a he will nip at me I think honestly they have a mental tick that they have no control over he says so lame phrases and my husband's naane simply bc he here's me calling down to his man cave all the time thank goodness he doesn't use my bad words bc there's a couple that are my favorites but also you covered lifespan bc birds with the exception of a few in good health can live long lives and I have the green cheek and a cockitel I should grow old with them
Aww, I'm glad to hear that your green cheek sounds really well-loved! There are definitely things that can cause birds to have a sudden change in attitude, and it's all about trying to find out what those are, and avoiding them in the future if they bother you or upset your green cheek! Your bird sounds super sweet, I'm glad he hasn't learned any bad words, that would be very awkward around visitors lol! Life span is one of the most important parts about owning a bird, so I always be sure to cover it with animal care :))
When i get a pet if its a bird or dog or something else it stays by my side no matter what. Its like having a kid. You can't just ditch it because your life is heading in a different direction. Something absolutely out of my control should happen for that. Like losing my job and becoming homeless or maybe a natural disaster that forces me to live somewhere else for a while and it would be better for my pet to be somewhere else because i literally cannot care for them anymore.

When you said that they live 20 to 30 years, that made me so happy. My little dude is with me most of the day and, I'm a grumpy Canadian veteran so, his personality is perfect lol. He is super needy though so, he basically lives on my shoulders and god forbid my wife trying to get close to me, he get jealous and it's the cutest thing ever, cheers from Canada and thanks for the information.

I’ve had my GCC for a little over two years now. She’s such a little troublemaker, but I love her. I love seeing the unique quirks each bird has. My GCC like to lean her side against my face when we cuddle. She also will hop around and loves to wrestle. She can be so energetic at times, but will also fall asleep on me for half and hour. Everyday is definitely something new with her!
Your green cheek sounds so precious! Scuttle definitely enjoys his head rubs as well! I love the energy in these birds, definitely one of my favorite things about them! 😊
@@ThrivePetDesign For my Yellow Sided how you solve that morning noise is put them in a smaller enclosure away from your room, by the central air unit. That way they hear white noise and cannot hear the birds in the morning chirping. It works wonders. Quiet mornings.

I had mine call Lady Kathy and she is a destroyer, loud, misbehaved flying biting machine. And like you said in the video it will light up your day after a hard day at work. Love her like she is part of the family.

I treat him for what he is - a delicate little soul. He is much more "serious" compared to most conures that I've observed, but he has his daily antics for sure. I am grateful for being able to take care of him, and as you know, it returns tenfold.

Nice video. I've found that my Green Cheek likes foot toys. SO TO SAVE MONEY, I gather buttons, cheap jewelry all sorts of odds and ends, even jar lids. There are a lot of toys you can make out of almost anything. One of his favorites is to push around an empty soda can. I love setting up environments to enrich his life. Another con is because Green Cheeks are fragile. They can be squahed or crushed easily by a child or getting stepped on. I love my Green Cheek!

That's definitely an important con to bring up, and I think that goes for almost every bird, as well. New GCC owner here🤗 I love my conure he is such a cutie and what you said about them being unpredictable is so funny because my bird will literally behave the same way one minute he loves me then the next he gets sassy lol but i’m getting better at understanding his body behaviors🥰 I’m obsessed with birds now
About 6 months ago I adopted a mated pair of GCC's. The male was a serious biter. Patience & consistency has worked out. He now gives me kisses and little nibbles.
These are my 1st GCC's. I used to have over 200 birds, a variety from Love Birds, Cockatiels, other Conures & Cockatoos.
I purchased a pretty big flight cage but they are usually outside of it.
I'm really enjoying my GCC's, and looking forward to rescuing more again. I work from home and have plenty of time for them.
That is so awesome for you!! I definitely think patience is the most important things with these birds, and people just need to be willing to use it! Especially since birds are so emotional, I definitely don't want people bringing home a GCC if they aren't capable of lots of love and patience! Your birds sound like they have a fantastic life :)

I just wanted to make a note about the diet at 5:55, because I want to be very particular about this video's impact. That is the ZuPreem pellet diet which is NOT very good, and I would not recommend feeding. This appears in the video because 1) it's all Scuttle will eat and 2) some of this is older footage. I am currently working on transitioning to Roudybush, which is proving to be difficult as Scuttle enjoys being stubborn. However, I only offer ZuPreem in addition to his veggie mix, which is his main diet. I wanted to point this out because, on its own, I would not recommend the ZuPreem diet. I only offer the pellet as I work on getting him on the best diet possible and to ensure that his nutrition is as balanced as possible. An improper diet can cut a bird's lifespan very short. Bird diets are very complicated, and so are birds in general. This is why I am trying to be very clear on the importance of a good diet. I am currently trying to blur out the video of the pellet diet, but RUclips Studio currently is not cooperating with me, so I hope you can understand.

It really depends on the bird, they aren't necessarily the most. Macaws are definitely SUPER expensive, but smaller parakeets and finches are (while definitely not cheap) are far less expensive. Really all just due to the fact that the bigger they get, the more expensive they are :)
Demanding, messy little devils is how best to describe them. Also lovable, cuddly and affectionate at same time, makes you put up with their impish side.
I also have a greencheek named Robin, and oh boy he is an absolute devil. He's always getting into trouble, knocking stuff down or trying to get in a fight with our other birds. BUT, my family and I can't say we don't love him. He's crawled his way into our hearts and we can't help but find his troublemaking cute. I enjoyed this video and really agree with your points btw!

I think the key is training.
I have an adopted green cheek that was 7 years old when I got him and I've had him 2 years now. I told the lady who bred him and comes to my house to trim his nails that he is just about perfect except his nippiness. She shrugged her shoulders and said "That's green cheeks - they are bullies." The flip side is he is very very obedient and easily trained. He always does what I ask him to do.
For sure! Training is also a great way to provide them with mental stimulation 👍
I absolutely agree with the biting, that's so funny that she said that haha. Thankfully, they have pretty distinct body language before they bite so you can usually avoid it!
I love how smart they are, and I'm currently working on teaching Scuttle a few tricks as well :)
This is a very informative video. A lot of these talking points are things you only learn throughout your ownership of them and you bring up some great points with conures in particular. They are such inquisitive little creatures and it breaks my heart when I see people rob them of that joy by keeping them locked up most of the day or can't give them the attention they need. It's a HUGE personal cost to invest in them but it's super rewarding when you can provide them a life full of happiness. Great video !

My GCC is definitely both devilish and adorable. He can be very loud and spoiled at times when he’s in the cage but I agree with what you said the cage should only be for them to sleep in my opinion they are very active and require a lot of play time. Mine doesn’t get into a lot of trouble so I’ll let him out with my other birds just fine. He’s very cuddly but as soon as he sees my finger he will snap at me and make me bleed 😭 it can be very frustrating but I’ve learned over time this is just how they are. I would say if you aren’t experienced with birds just yet a cockatiel is a lot easier to take care of but conures are like having kids and require a lot of attention
We had gotten ours very unplanned. My wife was the bird person in our relationship she has had many cockatiels and they are great so i didn't mind baby sitting a green cheek when her friends asked. It was only supposed to be for a week or 2 while she was on vacation. Several months later we got the impression they just wanted us to keep him cause he was a handful. He has anxiety issues from being passed from home to home so his feathers are a bit chewed up and he was on a poor diet. I couldn't bare to part ways with him so little by little we are making progress with him and I don't think I've ever loved birds this much as i do at this point in my life. What wonderful and under rated animals. When I found out they live to 20-30 yrs i was so happy i never want them to have to deal with separation anxiety or be passed to other homes.

I love mine even though she is an amateur dentist and will try and pry my mouth open to get to those teeth. I have had a few birds from Lovebirds to Pionus to Caiques and a Grey. I still think my Green Cheek is one of the best birds I have had in my life. She can definitely be a handful but the payoff is good. Well done on this video.

Very good point about the moodiness, you are absolutely right. I kind of understand them, because I can be moody too haha, but they definately have moodswings and can be nippy.

I agree they are unique. I call them the pit bulls of parrots as I have rescues and they are either extremely viscious or extremely timid when the rescues arrive. I have a parent raised 5 month old baby too and he has been the easiest baby bird to train and keep entertained. He loves all the toys and seems to really love and appreciate living with us. I also have a Quaker parrot i adopted at 8 months old from another great home they had other birds and felt they didnt have enough time for her so i adopted her and she is like a flying puppy and follows me around, she's playful and she and the parent raised green cheek have no behavioural issues that I notice. Rescues take a long time to come around, settle in and learn trust again. Green cheeks are the most complex burd species I've ever coexisted with (I'm home a lot due to disibilities) due to having so much time I chose green cheeks for the challenge that is well worth the rewards. Great video. A lot of great info and advice.
I have a 4 tear old turquoise ggc rescue. A 3 year old normal ggc rescue. Both were cage crazed and have rehabilitated well so far. They were very wild and I did clip their wings to start as I dont know any other way but they can both fly now and when they learned to take off and land and gained independence they grew emotionally and mentally over night.

Great Video - Yes Green Cheek Conures are complex creatures. My hands are full with just one. Whoa, he gets so much of my time I feel I'm neglecting my budgies. Anyhow I can never give them up, I love them. Yes it breaks my heart when people get a bird and then end up giving it away or do not care for the bird. Anyways this is a great video, you hit a lot of facts and good points, I agree with you about everything you said.

I have a green cheek. They are really loving loyal and she goes with me everywhere. They are special. They need interaction and they want love. So smart! I’m older so for me they are perfect. Please don’t buy one if you’re not willing to commit the time and care. They are such social birds. They can be nippy because that’s how they let you know what they want and need. I don’t know what I’d do without my friend. Do not get a child a bird. These need space, stimuli. 💕
I absolutely agree with everything that you have said. Birds, in general, are not a good pet for most people, unless they are willing to dedicate a lot to them. Green cheeks are so special, and yours sounds very loved! :)
My first bird was a GCC, she was my best friend and she was a member of my family. We loved her so much and she was a free flier. She died this year

I have a cinnamon she costed 400 but so worth it, she is not that moody but she loves snuggles, dances and also can say a few words.

Hi I live in southern Spain and have a pineapple green cheek I have had her for 4 years I take her out with an adapted aviator harness for a good fly which she loves. Here in Spain she only cost 90 euro from a professional breader including registration leg ring and paper work.I hand reared her from 2 weeks feeding with a syringe.
I have one and I also think it's so funny when he has an attitude! Love mine, and yes , they can get nippy but as my bird is going to be 3 years old, he learned so much, example , he knows right and wrong, my type of bird, but you are correct this species is not for everyone, Im glad I picked the green cheek. You kinda get used to there body language, for me "Jake" is such a joy, nice presentation!!!👍♥️

Your so open and honest about Green cheeks you learned quite a bit in just a years time well when it comes to biting when getting luvins they are easy to get hormonal and they dont ever change but thats the fun part with my Sunny who just turned eleven they get over stimulated very easy and its always a body posture thing Sunny tends to bow very low when he gets ready to bite if Im sure to stop he bounces back to loving rather then biting but unfortunatly over the years Ive taken some bites and it always seems like he doesnt understand what happend Then some Conure experts told me that make sure you dont over stimulate and youll be just fine then the biting events went way down thank goodness lol. So with that being said I love your videos please keep them coming bye for now .

Wow you have a positive attitude
You may have covered this and I missed it, but one thing to consider before you get a green cheek is the other birds in your flock, especially if you have different species. I find that my green cheek is very sociable and very pesty towards my lineolated parakeet and my budgie. He doesn't mean any harm; he actually tries to preen them or feed them but they don't like it. His high activity level and constant pestering really freaks them out. So, if you have a mixed flock, you may have to house your green cheek in another room or stagger the "out of cage" time to keep the stress level down for your smaller birds. I am not sure how green cheeks interact with larger birds such as Amazons, cockatoos or macaws. Maybe someone else can comment on that.
My pineapple conure is so good,,she doesn’t make a noise in the morning or at all really.she is very good and likes to fly around,she likes me best and if she bites I say a strong NO..she is learning..I love her..mine was 500 from a breeder..

Thank you for all that information about the green cheek Conyers. It really helped me decide if I should or will get one! I at the moment have a very SPOILED COCKATIEL named Fella he is around 10 yrs old and I've been trying to decide if I should add another feathery family member? Fella was raised with two red ramped parrots and parakeets so I know he will be fine im just afraid we will lose the strong bond we have made since it became just me and him? I do have to say though Fella is just as MOODY as a green cheek Conyer!! Lol 😆
I've had a Goffin's Cockatoo since 1998. My daughters wanted a smaller, more cuddly bird, so we picked a Green cheek conure about 4 months ago. He's such a nice little bird and loves to cuddle with all of us, although he can be a little demanding at times, LOL. Compared to the noise 'Ladybird' the cockatoo makes, all the sounds 'Nibbler' makes are just cute! Sometimes Nibbler will walk p to Ladybird's cage and they will start arguing, it's so funny. We're hoping they eventually learn to be friends so we don't have to keep them separated all the time. The only con for us is, this little conure is a lot messier than the much larger cockatoo!
Your cockatoo sounds amazing, and Nibbler does too!! I also love the sound my green cheek makes, especially when he's playing with his favorite toys! LOL!
I have some issues with my mother's parakeet and my green cheek, especially with Scuttle's fiesty attitude! I hope they can be friends one day as well. I think it will help when my green cheek's hormones start to balance out as well!
The mess is actually a really great point, Scuttle loves to throw around all of his food (especially fruits and veggies!)

I have my male parakeet in the same cage as my female conure. She does boss him around, but, he loves her and tries to keep her out of trouble. He speaks conure, but she never sings parakeet songs.
I've wanted one for around 4 years now but with my current job, don't get me wrong I am well off, but I feel like I couldn't be able to give the proper care due to the pay I get. I have the proper time but would prefer a bit more income. But I do have a job that I'm certain that I will get that will be my career that will allow me to properly care for one and once I am 100 percent sure I got the job I plan on getting one.

I definitely understand that money is such a big concern when bringing birds home, and it makes me very happy to hear you're planning your financial situation around your possible bird. It's so amazing that you've wanted one for such a long time and yet you are still pursuing and doing research. I really hope this goes well for you, I think you will do a fantastic job
My 8 mo. old male Pineapple Conure Cootie is very feisty and loved to make fighting sounds and bite all the time when I was handling him, but his bites were more like light warning bites. He is mellowing out week by week and can be loving. He fly's to me and cries when he can't get out of his cage to come to me That's why I named him a nippy 'Cootie' Bird. It could of been Tas for Tasmanian Devi too. :)

My normal GCC from a breeder hand fed baby I had her two years now and she was 500 with dna sexing

My high red pineapple was about $700😭 I was so so set on having a pineapple. Not even a high red. But it just so happened that the one that I was connected with at the store was a high red, which was more expensive. I had no idea until now that pineapples were more
I agree totally with your video as myself i'm a pineapple GCC owner. She's a little demon but i love her more than anything else. She's really jealous of us having contact with other birds but since we raised her together (me and my partner) she doesn't have jealousy about other people. She even climbs on my mother.
She is deeply bonded as you said but mine because the breeder removed her from her parents as soon as she came out of the egg has the really bad habit to bite daily.
She's really moody and we're getting used to it.
Also even though we have an aviary for her she hates being in there...
Same if she's outside of the aviary in the room with us she will scream if we even dare to go out of the room.
She is also extremely destructive so yes i recommend a lot of foraging toys and these cost a lot of money so yes be prepared to have to spend a lot of money for them.
Btw for her aggression i simply buy cat toys (the balls with bells) and she will play really violently with them.
It takes her energy out and she loves playing a lot.
About the energy it's a specie i absolutely don't recommend to trim the wings and claws.
They are so active and love to fly, climb, exercise so it would be really bad for them.
I personally hate the idea of cutting any bird claws or triming the wings feathers.
Birds are made to fly and climb everywhere.
Just got my conure few weeks ago. He is so sweet and funny. But his claws are so sharp. My arm and my wife arms are full of scars. He can bite hard but he knows not to bite hard.
That's awesome! If his claws are too sharp, I would recommend finding a way to possibly trim them to prevent them from getting too long for him. I think, in general, most green cheeks are like that in terms of biting, but I've also seen some that are pretty aggressive, so I think it's important people prepare for the worst when it comes to owning birds :)

Yess! Birds are the absolute best! Make sure you do your research as they are the biggest commitment and they don't always deal well with change or stress well. I'm sure you could do it just be careful when getting into it, and I can answer any questions 😊

I love gcc. My dream bird is an pineapple gcc but so far a cockatiel is a better fit for me. I def will get a little conure one day in the future! (Just to be clear its not like i cant get a gcc now so im getting a cockatiel, i love them both so much) Also my family which im living with now wouldnt handle the noise sadly. I Hope theyll be okay with a tiel tho! 💕
Oo that's so exciting! Sometimes it's definitely very difficult to balance the bird and family needs, but I'm glad that you're looking into one. I would love to rescue/get a cockatiel one day because they are just so absolutely beautiful and I love how soft their singing is :))
I found one in my cats mouth. He is really sweet but he preens me agreavly and it hurts. It first I THOUGHT IT cute that he niblrs my mouth but he really goes at it. any advise thank you?

He was a rescue and almost dead when we got him. He was only 2 months old..he is now just over a year and doing fabulous. We love him so much and yes he bites and can be moody.

I have the problem that I really want this bird but I'm at a point in my life where I'm not sure where I'll end up. Like I might live or study abroad, or maybe I'd travel a bunch. So I've been holding back on getting a green cheek conure for like 2 years now because I dont want to stress out the little thing. It drives me mad sometimes. But I gotta be patient
I think the reason he might be a tad bit angry is because you cocoon him with soft material. That usually happens because that's how they get stimulated into breeding in the wild, hence why I don't think you should do that. But I might be wrong. Do your own research.
Hi! I have done my own research and I did a lot of research for this video. I don't believe I described him as getting angry within the video, but I honestly have too much anxiety to watch it again (I do remember being happy with the information when posting it, and wouldn't share it otherwise). It's not the end of the world, he just nips me once or twice a day and this is honestly more so the result of him still being in his terrible twos and a bird, especially since I don't use towels anymore, although, if someone has an extremely nippy green cheek, they can be used to keep the owner and the bird more safe. I have not experienced any immediate negative repercussions when I played around with towels, and I noticed the way I just draped it over him made him feel more safe, and whenever he heard something that scared him, he would try to hide inside, since he is also quite anxious. I've also seen people talk about using the use of a towel for bringing their birds to vet, although this situation is different as they are restrained, but I have not noticed people mention that being stimulating in that way (although it might be because they are under high pressure, I suppose). I will continue to do more research, and I appreciate the honest feedback, but I don't believe this is the case, especially since he still is nippy once in a while. I'm thinking that he will soon grow out of this, but it is not unlike a green cheek conure to have just a little bit of sass to them, and I don't really mind, I love the personality. 😊

I really want to get one but there is inly 2 right now in Nyc. But the one i want unfortunately isnt being sold to me. Petsmart told me they dont have the permit to sell it so im kinda sad that i have to wait since the cage there is so small and no toys and its just alone bored. I hope They will be able to sell pets again on sunday😩
I hope that you can get one!! If you bring one home from PetSmart, be sure to get them onto a good diet because they definitely don't feed the best stuff at those pet stores haha.

What food products to you by for your conure, he is gorgeous! Extremely green, mine sadly has some of the black feathering and I didn't know that was a sign of bad diet. I've been wanting to change his diet for a long time regardless.

You did well bc this is informative my gcc is this way exactly one minute I can cradle him like a baby I mean he likes being wrapped like a newborn then I feel the crazy vibe a he will nip at me I think honestly they have a mental tick that they have no control over he says so lame phrases and my husband's naane simply bc he here's me calling down to his man cave all the time thank goodness he doesn't use my bad words bc there's a couple that are my favorites but also you covered lifespan bc birds with the exception of a few in good health can live long lives and I have the green cheek and a cockitel I should grow old with them
Aww, I'm glad to hear that your green cheek sounds really well-loved! There are definitely things that can cause birds to have a sudden change in attitude, and it's all about trying to find out what those are, and avoiding them in the future if they bother you or upset your green cheek!
Your bird sounds super sweet, I'm glad he hasn't learned any bad words, that would be very awkward around visitors lol!
Life span is one of the most important parts about owning a bird, so I always be sure to cover it with animal care :))
When i get a pet if its a bird or dog or something else it stays by my side no matter what. Its like having a kid. You can't just ditch it because your life is heading in a different direction. Something absolutely out of my control should happen for that. Like losing my job and becoming homeless or maybe a natural disaster that forces me to live somewhere else for a while and it would be better for my pet to be somewhere else because i literally cannot care for them anymore.
