@@susangunn885 Watch my videos and observe my birds behaviors, the thumbnail clearly shows Yoshi isn't fearful of my hands, observe fearful parrots behaviors stated in other videos on the internet for comparison, etc. Many ways to show the differences between tame vs untamed parrots. It's very obvious to distinguish which ones are tamed and which ones need work. The fact mine sit beside me relaxed in a calm state fully flighted and not shrieking in fear flying away is a good indication for starters.

Yall are not correct. 20 -25 is the expected life expectancy. How long is a human expected to live? about 80 years in America. How many humans are older than 80 right now? what about over 100? If you take care of him (excellent diet/care) and give him a reason to live (lots of attention and a "mate" or companion. He'll keep squawking for a looooong.

I’m getting a green cheek tomorrow and I’m so scared I’m gonna mess up the bond. Everyone has given me advice but it’s ALL different. I have a plan but I’m not sure if it’ll work
Step 1: keep hands OFF the bird, stay in the room for awhile, sing and talk softly, and only go into the cage to change water, food, and to clean. Once the bird is comfortable with your presence and the new surrounding, go to step 2.
Step 2: Try to sit close to the cage but don’t make eye contact, offer the bird treats from outside the cage but if he moves away it’s okay. Try again later. When the bird takes the treat go to step 3.
Step 3: Try feeding the bird inside the cage with your hand and offer food. Do it continuously and go to step 4:
4: teach the bird how to perch on your finger or arm. Do this for a few weeks. Finally, step 5
Step 5: when the bird is comfortable enough, take him out of the cage so he can enjoy outside and set up snacks, toys, and puzzles everywhere.
Is this a good plan?? I’m really scared I’m gonna mess up, someone help?? 😬

I took in unwanted larger birds and trained them, and found forever homes for them. Little birds weren't high on my list. This November, my grandson purchased a high red green cheek conure for me. He has won me over hook, line, and sinker. He is a happy, sweet, loving companion. If you are looking for a bird, green cheek conures are an excellent choice.

When I asked to meet her the shopkeeper reached in and grabbed her very quickly and aggresively with both hands from where she was cowering in the corner and I felt so bad for her after learning she'd been in that shop for SIX MONTHS that I just couldn't leave her there. She seems particularly scared of hands (and i don't blame her) so I really appreciated you focusing on that particular fear.

I just inherited a Green Cheek. We have met before although his dad passed and his caretaker just dropped him off. The first 45 minutes after my son left (which he loves) it started to scream. I went back to my desk which is 15' away from a sliding glass door where his cage is. I just did my own thing and looked for a cover for the evening. About 7:00 PM he looked like it was bed time. He loved the red color and came out running around with his approval. It 's big enough for his huge cage. He's very funny and settling in just fine. I dig this little guy. I've raised baby parrots most of my life for friends for pets. He's a keeper.

Now I can play with him and he enjoys playing and interacting with me when I am making things. I feel parrots are so smart they are more than pets to me. when I am mad they both both get mad. They have made my life so much better. You are so good with your babies. I love you Nine inch Nails T-shirt. I'm an old mocker.

It depends per bird and where they came from. Mine came from a bird shop, and sat with me after a month. She is now 7 months and always want to sit with me, play, shower etc. But with my sis, it took over a year. Just take it slow and go at the bird’s pace.

Hi. I had a very fearful bird (Petco sales people said they avoided touching their birds because they didn't want them to bond with them, leaving their birds terrified of humans). Anyway, I used youtube videos on baby conures to get her out of her shell. I'd pet the birds (pet the screen really) and make over them. Next thing I knew she was making the baby conure sounds and came over to be petted with them. I did this in the morning and in the evening for four days and at the end, she wanted love and cuddles. I call her my "love dove" now because she is so affectionate now.

I showed my mom this video and it was the wall breaker to getting a green cheek, my mom never wanted one but I did everything in this video and it helped her be the cutest little feather baby!!! My mom now loves her and started collecting her feathers for my little sister to craft with. Her name is Izzy by the way. At first izzy was very shy but we set up some stands, bought some toys and treats, and built a custom cage. ( big enough for a vulture because my baby deserves the best ) My mom is now a proud grandma

Of course!! I will keep you updated for everything that happens, but today we started recall training. It was a rough start because she would always fly to my mom or dad in the room. But we have some quality treats with us. So I let her know I had them, let her try to get them but not quite reaching so she would have to jump to my hand. I guess I started way to far.

My bird use to be completely afraid of me and my family. She is mainly around me, but my parents would walk in and she would immediately go to the corner of her cage. I got my bird Sonny to gain my trust by letting her come out of her cage on her own and letting her check me out slowly. She had started to warming up to me and now loves me and my family as she got use to us and me letting her get comfortable on her own. She lets me get her out of her cage by hand and now she’s so happy when I come up to the cage and she’s ready to let her out. I definitely haven’t seen this until a few months after I had Sonny, and I have done most of the things you recommend.

This is kind of an older post, so I don't know if I will get any advice, but I'm trying anyway! I have had my green cheek, Miller, for about 12 years (got him when he was a baby.) We have always been well-bonded. About 7 years ago, we adopted an Indian ringneck. It took Miller a while to get used to him, but eventually he tolerated him well enough and they actually share a large cage. The ringneck is obsessed with Miller and only wants to be with him. It has turned out well bc I have had 2 children during then and now and have also been a full-time caregiver for my mom. I was glad Miller wasn't without a buddy to keep him company while I was very busy. I still interacted with him every day, but not the same bc he would go out of his way to bite my kids and my elderly mom. The ringneck is very affable, sweet, and friendly to everyone, so I don't worry about my bond with him. But since having kids, it has been hard to have the same connection with Miller that I used to have. I completely understand why, and I'm not surprised. But I don't know how to fix the bond with the ringneck involved. I feel like Miller is half bonded with me and half with the ringneck (whose name is Jr. by the way). But he is not sweet with me anymore, he bites me all the time. It makes me sad and I want to put in the work to fix it. Should I separate them when I take them out of the cage to spend indovidual time with them? Jr. screams the whole time when he can't see Miller. Any advice appreciated.

As we watched your video she sat on me with her hair fluffed and eyes closed. Us establishing a bond has been a journey but u helped me to understand why I have been getting bit so much. I also saw yoshi get in your head and that's one of my tweet tweets fav places to be. Other than when she's trying to nibble on my neck..lol😂

There was the green cheek conure that was just looking at me, i went up to her and she didn’t even run or go to hide. I went up to the parakeets and they flew off. I recently got a green cheek and he is not shy at all. Actually he wants to be out of the cage and with me all the time. It’s only been a week and I am so surprised how much we have bonded. He wants to snuggle up under my hair by the side of my neck when he’s tired. My only issue so far is he does get quite the attitude when I need to put him back in his cage. He does get nippy when I try to move him from by my neck.

Hey, so firstly we are UK! And have just brought a 2019 green cheek conure. He's very fearful. He runs away whenever we enter the room, or we are near him, even just putting fresh food and water in the cage. He's not a biter, just a runner. We're not sure on his background life with him being 3 years old but we are willing to train him (we've had parrots before). So he is on a seed diet which we are going to change him to pellets and vegetables. We are trying millet sticks as treats. So... he will take the millet when your hand is so back on the stick. Make it shorter then nope, he's gone. We've only had him 3 days so it's early but what is the best plan of action as he won't let us anywhere near him at all. Won't come on the perch, won't take food. Nothing. He gets let out often but getting him back in is not fun!
    Please send help lol
    Regards
    Liane
