Vintage diesels need a lot more love from railfans in general. Yes, we see them every day in the form of GEVOs and ACes, but one day, they'll wind up like the steam engines they replaced. I'll always love steam like anyone else, but sometimes you have to let older diesels have some time to shine.
PLEASE, get away from the crossings. We've all heard EVERY horn type, a zillion times, I wonder if this is where the term 'bells and whistles' originates. The sound of these locomotive, the old ALCo, Fairbanks Morse, Baldwin, EMD, will be gone in the next couple of decades, things wear out, and there are very few parts laying around for some of these wonderful, nostalgic, machines.
Many of the locations which do not have a crossing nearby are private land, and we do not use private land without expressed permission from the owner.
