- Mt Penn in Reading PA continues to impress and amaze! Our Sunday mountain bike ride took us through some of our favorite features and a few new ones including 1 in 10, Sam Malone, Rock Bridge, John’s Rock, Coach, and the Scorpion and Dee Snider skinnies. Most of these features are rated black and should be ridden with caution if it is your first time. This ride happened on June 2, 2024.
Note: Since most of these are not labeled on Trailforks, Dan and I came up with our own names to help us navigate around the mountain.
TRAIL DETAIL:
1 in 10 (aka Boulder Field) can be found right off List Rd, it tends to get overgrown in the summer so keep your eyes peeled for it. Sam Malone and Coach are slab tech lines located near “Chuck Chutes and Ladders” on Trailforks. John’s Rock and the Scorpion skinny are located near the Wine Cellar near “S-Turns”. Rockover can be found on “Stone Hedge”
The other skinnies featured in the video including Dee Sinder (teeter totter skinny) are located on a trail called “Twisted Sister”, but you have to venture off the main trail to find them.

FTR (Follow The Rider) is a new series focused on mountain biking one or two specific trails. It will be different from my POV videos in that there will be no b-roll or music. The goal is to give viewers a look at a complete run from start to finish.

So grateful for our friendship and the adventures we have together. Thank you for making me a better rider and for supporting my dreams. #RideAndLaugh
thanks for sharing the bloopers. Its great to see that it takes practice to clear awesome features.
Right on Jason! BTW is this the same Jason we met on the trails the other day? Sage
@@TrailSage yup!
Awesome stuff Sage!!
Thank you!
Great video Sage, that was cool to watch you guys tackle those challenging lines and cheer each other on and motivate each other. Great job and thanks for sharing. Ride on and have a great weekend mate🤙
Thanks Christoph. Sharing the stoke and encouraging each other is the only way we ride ;) Have a great weekend brotha. Sage
@@TrailSage Absolutely🤙, thank you very much brother🙏
Super challenging looking lines. I'd love to see a clear on that spinning teeter!
It's happening my friend. I have my eye set on clearing that thing when it is completed. Thanks for watching and commenting. Sage
What a cool place to ride!
Right?!?! #blessed
Good rides from all !! Very entertaining features. Keep on building and pushing the challenging lines Dane. Feet Up!! 😊
Thanks Steve. I second that. Thank you for all the hard work Dane and Fred!
Great riding boys!
Thanks brotha!
Yoooo, that’s so sick. Some of that woodwork is nuts. I’ve been there a handful of times and didn’t see any of that stuff. That’s so cool.
I've been riding there for over 16 years so I know where to find the good stuff ;) Thanks for watching and commenting Denny. Sage
Fantastic job boys!! Man those are some challenging features!! Well done 👏👏👏👏❤🇨🇦eh!
Thanks Uzi. We had a blast!
Amazing video man! Was an awesome ride with you guys!
Thank you so much Josef! It was great meeting you and Chase
@@TrailSage Went through a bunch of your videos, just hit up “The Network” last night. Was another super fun trail. Thanks for uploading and taking the time to make these amazing videos. And of course, pleasure meeting you guys too
@@josefhaile2565 Good meeting you Joe!! That's so cool you're finding Mt. Penn lines through TrailSage!! - Dan
@@josefhaile2565 That's awesome Josef!!! Thank you for the kind words and support. It means a lot.
@@TheRideAbides Yes! Good meeting you too Dan! See you on the trails
You definitly need to show me around this route sometime!
Absolutely Vijay. I think you would love it here. Hit me up anytime. Sage
Super Nice🤙🏻
Thanks TC. Mt Penn is a special place. Sage
Now that I finally see what it looks like I think I may need to take a trip lol
Mt Penn is amazing Dylan, but it's a maze of trails so have your Trailforks ready, lol. Sage
On a single speed hardtail none the less...outstanding!!! I plan on riding more of these features as I really struggle with the mental aspect of an elevated skinny so I have a convertible full face helmet on the way.
I love that idea Pat. The convertible full face will give you that added comfort of a little more protection. Thanks for watching and commenting. Sage
Right!!? Totally agree Pat. These features are really tough and Sage's talent really shines through on that ss hardtail. So balanced, controlled and confident!
Those rock slaps are insane! Awesome ride. I guess this ride was what you guys were talking about on the podcast. Amazing! What the heck kind of feature was that at the end with the pulley?! INSANE!
This was such a great day Johnny, but this is what every ride with Danny is like. Absolutely love this mountain! Thanks for watching and commenting. Sage
Oh, and that feature with the pulley is a rotating tetter totter. It's not finished yet but it's on my list ;)
Holy crap Sage. My legs are on fire watching you do any of this on SS. Enjoyed the 3rd person shots and Dan's riding too. Such good tech, that you'll have to show me soon, just cant promise i'll get it all 😂
Man, this mountain has been calling your name Zane. Are you into skinnies? Regardless, I got plenty to show you when you make the trip. Now about those clipless pedals... ;)
@TrailSage I'm 50/50 on skinnies, they're fun but the risk to reward on your bike components is not there for me😂. The clipless.... they're coming soon🫣
Tay lái rất siêu đẳng các bạn rất giỏi 👍.
Thank you so much Nguyen!
The thumbnail had me believing you were on a new fs bike. 😂
You are a beast riding that shit Sage.
Oh man I wish Omar. But so grateful to have this single speed #betterthannothing Thank you for the kind words. Sage
What bush are these that surround the stones on the first trail? Pteridium aquilinum? Here in Portugal we have some very similar bushes that we commonly call "fern-do-mont".
As for the video, amazing as always! You guys are the greatest! Fantastic technique, almost like dancing on rocks.
Yikes, I have no idea Luis. I just thought they were regular ferns, lol. As for dancing on the rocks, I love that analogy. Riding is very similar to dancing, you have to be free and flowing. Thanks for watching and commenting brotha! Sage
Awesome video! Your balance is impressive. I’m going to try to get up there some time this summer. I’m definitely gonna hit skyline and Boomsauce, what other trails are fun?
Thanks Luke. Yeah, Mt Penn is so much fun. Def hit the Network and Dane's Flow Around as well. Sage
